View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased HP Pavilion 15-n209TX Laptop this year and the functions keys were working properly. But, later on from 10th of May 2014, they are not working! I checked whether there was a software due to which it was happening, but, I didn't install any kind of software which can harm the functioning of the keys. I am really struggling with very low brightness. The latest thing I did was - windows update - which installed the following softwares
Microsoft Silverlight
Also, I installed HP Quick fix.
Whenever I press F2 or F3, it just shows the slidebar (it doesn't go up and down though) and when I click on the top of the slidebar, nothing happens again. I also tried to go to the brightness option in the Windows Mobility Centre and tried to adjust the brightness - but nothing is happening.
I have an HP Envy j011dx that came with Windows 8 Home Edition(64b9t). I put in an SSD and upgraded the ram and installed Win 7 Pro(64bit). Everything is working great except the control keys don't work. When I hit the left ctrl, I get, [9- and the right ctrl, I get, l; I have searched and tried a few different drivers and have looked at some posts about downgrading to 7 and haven't seen anything on this issue. I have ran all windows updates and tried several different drivers. I put the old HD in with W8 and it works so it isn't a hardware issue. I originally looked at this post before doing the downgrade and it gave me the confidence to move forward with putting Win7 on. I have until Friday to take this back to the store if I can't get it working. I have also checked the region/language settings.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently received a new laptop at work (a few of us have) and we are all having the same issue with this laptop. The function keys F8 and F9, which are labeled to control screen brightness, are not working. I have searched many forums and I cannot find a fix.

I have a HP Pavilion g7-2325sb running Windows 7 64 bit. but the buttons for adjusting screen brightness don't work. The buttons for audio adjustment do work without pusshing the fn button. In bios "action keys mode" is enabled.I think it's some software missing but can't find the software, neither can "HP support assistant".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently formatted my laptop to windows 7 ultimate and since then can not get my function keys to work. I've reinstalled drivers that I thought might work and nothing.
When I could no longer adjust my brightness is when I noticed that my function keys were not working. Is there any other way to adjust the brightness on my laptop besides the function keys? If so I have not figured it out.
I've got 2 separate but really annoying issues with my W540 20BH:
- display brightness keys not working: when waking up from Hibernation mode, sometimer (really, randomly!) the display brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) don't work.... either if the display brightness is stuck on max, min or an intermediate level...Is there a way to shut down and restart the process which commands the Fn keys?
- audio channel commutation gets stuck. Normal behaviour of the audio configuration is:
1) speaker volume disabled, mic disabled
2) when plugging in a 4-pin headset, headset's volume is on, headset's mic is switched on; speaker volume is still disables.
3) when unplugging the headset, speakers' volume is still 0
After each boot, the audio channel is at 0, but doesn't commute to the headset when plugged in! I have to open Configuration Panel, realtek properties. With this window open, unplug and re-plug the headset. Now, the volume has its normal behaviour.
Any better way to configure audio channels and evenments, which is able to bypass realtek's manager?
I've had my laptop for about one and half years now, and so far the webcam has been working fine. Today though, it stopped functioning. At first I thought it was the microphone and webcam, but I tested the microphone and that's working. The only thing not working is the webcam.
I tried restarting. I tried looking up the driver and making sure it was all set. At that point, I realized I didn't even have a webcam installed (which is what my programs were telling me but I didn't believe).
I then searched on this forum to find a solution and another member posted that removing the bevel and sticking the little plug back in should work. I tried it and it didn't. (I'm also concerned that I did this with my computer on... Have I done any serious damage?)

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy webcam stopped working all of a sudden. I have HP ENVY dv6-7258nr Notebook PC with Windows 8. The camera app says "Connect a camera." and the device manager does not show "Imaging Devices". Instead there is "Other Devices" which has a subcategory of "Unknown Devices" with a yellow mark.
I have updated, reinstalled cyberlink youcam drivers, tried system restore (which does not complete saying i have an anti virus open when i don't have any antivirus on my notebook) but nothing works. Scanning for hardware does not bring up any thing. I have also followed the instructions given on hp site and opened the youcam software but it does not detect the camera.
Laptop is only 9 months old. I did all of the updates and then my touchscreen stopped working - that was 4 days ago. Today I did a system restore to the point before the 1st critical update (9/24/14). It still does not work. Did it corrupt my driver? And if so, what is the name of the driver? How can I restore the touch screen...

I am using an Envy TouchSmart 15 and I have just run an update of Windows 8.1 based on the system auto update (it ran 5 updates).
Prior to the update, I used a 27" monitor as the main screen and this was connected via the HDMI port. Right after the update, the system doesn't seem to recognise the HDMI port anymore and it goes back to using the Envy laptop screen as the main screen. I changed the HDMI cable but it made no difference. I subsequently connected another laptop to the 27" monitor via HDMI and it worked fine. So it appears both the monitor and the HDMI cable are fine.
This message came with a Microsoft update in about April 2014. I am running:

2 weeks ago I began having video issues on my system. At that time, I was able to get to the login screen and right after I logged in, the screen started blinking at a constant rate (about evey second). To fix this, I booted to the Startup Menu (hit ESC after power on) and got the text based menu. From there I could get to the nice little graphical Windows Startup Options Menus. I used that to do system restore back to July and this seemed to work for a couple weeks. Now when I start the laptop, it quickly goes to a screen full of little dots all over and I can't see anything. I was able to get the text based statup menu that listed (system info, sys diags, ..., Starup menu). But when I tried to get the graphics based menus, it immediately when to the screen with dots so I could not do any of the recovery or start up options (like safe mode).
Attaching screen shot.
I cannot view the desktop on the display of my Envy 17t quad touchsmart laptop with Windows 8, although others images, such as the screen saver can be seen.

View 8 Replies View Relatedi got an Envy 15 last week and i LOVE it! however i have a problem, the function keys along the top have some 'issues'
if i hold the 'fn' key and press them they work as F1 F2 etc as expected but some of them dont work as they should when pressed on their own!
The brightness, media, and screen selection keys work fine but the F1 key doesnt bring up help as it should and the f12 key doesnt lock the system! This is annoying as i use my laptop at work and lock it whenever i go away from my desk so pressing 1 key to lock would be very useful! The strange thing is, it worked fine yesterday but isnt working today!
A few weeks ago I cracked my glossy 1366x768 display on my Envy DV6 7227SA (product number C4V06EA#ABU). I have found a replacement online (part number 682089-001) but I was wondering if I could replace it with a matte 1920x1080 display (Part number 682090-001). I'm running Windows 8 64 bit
EDIT: This is the part I currently have in my notebook (broken) - [URL] ....
And this is what I'm wanting to replace it with - [URL] .....
Today, I tried connecting an external display to my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 laptop, via a USB hub, only to discover that using the touch screen points at the corresponding part of the external display rather than the inbuilt one (the displays are being extended). Can this be changed?
I'm using the same 64-bit Windows 8 installation and drivers that the computer came with.
Currently whenever I startup my laptop the display flickers. If windows fully boots or I try to enter one of the startup menus the will flash briefly on the screen and then the display will return to and remain black.
I am able to run an HDMI cable to my TV and it seems to be running fine other than going black with the occasional distorted picture of windows booting.
I just bought the Envy 2x 13 Detachable a few weeks ago. I've had issues with the keyboard from day one.
Keys will randomly repeat themselves which makes typing anything, especially passwords, a nightmare. I've corrected that last sentence about 6 times for duplicate characters.
The following sentence will be typed with no corrections:
This keyboard liikes to dupplicate letters inn a totally randoom fashion and I never knnow when it will happpen it just does it.
I saw a thread where BIOS Rev F.08 solved these issues. I have Rev F.06. When I try to install that BIOS I get a message that there was a BIOS read error and it closes.
This is getting VERY frustrating. I've tried adjusting the repeat rate in control panel with NO effect.
Have an issue with the keyboard on the HP Envy 17. There are three keys that, for whatever reason, stopped working.
The "o" key produces zero, left key, home, period, 'o', and 'p'.
The 'L' key produces three, period, page down, six, 'l', and semi colen.
The '.' key produces '2', '5', end, '4', period, and forward slash.
This happens every time the key is pressed. If held, they produce the above, then the last key repeatedly.
All other keys perform as expected. If a seperate USB keyboard is used, it works fine.
I've tried updating and rolling back the BIOS, as well as 'resetting' by removing all power for a few minutes. Have also uninstalled the driver, then installed the latest.
I also purchased a replacement keyboard from HP (part #720244-001) and installed.
I recently had to reinstall windows on my XPS 15 (l521x) and i now have the F-keys working with their assaigned function (Brightness, play/pause, volume, etc) however, the graphic overlays no longer appear.
For example - Fn + Brightness^ - will increase brightness but with no graphic showing what the current brightness level is.
Any way to get this useful feature back?
I can't change my laptop brightness neither with F2 and F3 keys nor in the settings. I have already updated all my drivers but still have no response when adjusting brightness. I have an hp pavilion sleekbook 15
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having the same trouble with my brand new 8460p : the brightness of the display can not be adjusted with the function keys (fn+F-keys) while in Windows. In other threads the problem has been solved by installing newest chipset drivers (which was not provided by HP), but in these threads the computer has been an earlier model. 8460p has the new QM67 express chipset and currently I'm running the latest drivers (according to intel's detection web site) for it.
I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit with all the latest drivers.
Suddenly I can't change my screen brightness with f2 and f3, and neither in control panel. Is there a new driver I need to install ? My product number is > G6S71UA#ABA
