View 9 RepliesI've had this computer for a long time. Last night it was working perfectly and then when I tried to turn the computer on, it loaded and went to the startup screen with the microsoft logo and from there it got stuck. I tried to hit F11 and do a diagnostic test but when it was finished it told me the computer was not able to restart because of memory or something like that. I've also tried to take the battery out, but that didn't work either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased this new HP laptop a couple weeks ago. Since new, I've noticed that it frequently freezes up with "NOT RESPONDING" in the upper frame.
I researched a few other posts similar & tried to do the processes, but they did nothing.
FYI - Did the sfc /scannow .... When finished it did say "resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them"
I then went and did the local disc C - check the drive for errors. It came back with NO ISSUES? I then did a defrag just for fun, and it said no fragmented files or issues?
I have a new T430 laptop with Win 7 32bit.Since the beginning I have issues while watching videos on VLC media player or Winamp. The video flickers and gets stuck for couple of second whenever I move/push the laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I just bought a new HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j130us (Windows 8.1) a few weeks ago and now something is wrong with the screen. I decided I would connect my laptop to my TV monitor via HDMI. I set the laptop on top of my Xfinity cable box while it was plugged in (HDMI cable is too short) and continued doing my homework. A few hours later, when I unplugged it from the HDMI cable and picked the laptop up, the screen turned greenish and flickered. It went away eventually. But then I noticed that when I tilted the screen back or fowards or even slightly moved the laptop, the screen would turn green again and flicker green a little. I hope this is not my fault in some way. The touchscreen and the backlight works just fine. I can still see what's on the screen while its green. Right now it's fine unless I move the laptop or tilt the screen in some way. Also, when plugged into the TV, that’s fine as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Studio 15 is only about 3 months old and I have been having this problem for the last month now.
Every couple of days or so my laptop lockups - the cursor sticks and there's nothing I can do other than power it off and boot it back up and then its fine for the next couple of days.
This is random... sometimes it happens when doing something intensive, sometimes it happens when its just sitting idle on the desktop after it has only been switched on for about 5 mins
I have talked to several HP techs since pc has been returned (after ruining the motherboard with water). The cursor freezes, so I hard power down (many times) and and restart - have been getting blue screen I did install Chrome browser as per one suggestion.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Elitebook 8540w laptop. I wanted to upgrade RAM memory from 2x2GB to 2x4GB. I bought not a kit of 2x4GB as i wanted to, instead I bought two 4GB memory chips from HP.
After replacing the modules the laptop does not boot up.
What has been done:
- Bios Default Restore
My first question is: i realize it is better to buy a kit of 2 matched chips, but is it a must?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-417SA Notebook PC operating on Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop freezes at random times, sometimes minutes into use or an hour into use. It is not caused by clicking a certain program or file. I suspect freeze issue maybe caused by hardware failure, possibly the HDD.
Here's a few observations of the laptop and the things I've tried to diagnose or fix it. During a typical hang the HDD LED light is constantly lit. Have also had both blue screen and black screen freeze. No error messages. Hard drive gets very hot. Entered BIOS and run both Primary Hard Disk Self-Test and Memory Test using InsydeH20 Setup Utility but it passed both.Laptop has been fully reset to factory settings so it can't be because of high CPU usage.
While idle the CPU usage is usually in the range of 13%-25%, with a rare spike of 53%The hard drive is a Western digital Scorpio Black 2.5" 320GB SATA. The laptop is unused so wiping it back to original settings wasn't an issue but I would like to get it back to a useable standard.
My Envy15-3000 notebook freezes while starting up. It only makes it to the Starting Windows screen then Microsoft icons stop moving. This has been going on since Tuesday (8/12). I ran checks and the memory and harddrive (quick and full) tests came back positive - i.e. no problems. I finally decided to reformat it yesterday (8/14). It gets all the way through the reformatting process until it wants to start the system for the "first time" (I imagine that this will be the last time it restarts in the recovery process) and still freezes on the Starting Windows screen. If I try to hard shut off and try any other boot up option I can think of (Safe Mode, etc.) it says Recovery Failed and asks me to retry, get details or Save Log. When I retry, it goes back to the freezing. As such, I am now in a seemingly endless loop of retrying the recover to get to the freezing start windows screen.
All I want to do is wipe the hard drive and reload everything. I'm not interested in recovering the old data as I have everything backed up. I got no error messages in my Run it, Memory, etc tests, so I am at a loss as to how to proceed.
I have the original drive recovery/windows 7 DVDs that came with the system.
I have a strange issue I was hoping one of you could help me solve. I have a dell latitude d620.
I bought this laptop used and always had some issues with it. At first the machine used to have some random power failure, where i would plug it in and the screen would go black. So I went ahead and replaced the motherboard.
Now after many months I took the machine to work and when i got home it will randomly freeze. I went ahead and tried a different harddrive, with the same result. So I tried to reformat the drives and it occurs on both as well
When my laptop is plugged into AC power, and I decide to move to another room and unplug it, the laptop suddenly freezes. All the programs do not respond and the only way to fix it is to reboot.
HP tech is trying to help my by telling me to test the battery life and resetting the bios, however this laptop is only 2 months old and I had the problem since the begining.
Its a dv3 Pavilion.

I scan my laptop everyday with AVG and Malwarebyts, I use CCleaner weekly and DeFraggler monthly, unless I download lots of files then I'll scan it and if it goes above 5-6% I do a full scan
I don't download much. The only games I have on here is WoW, RIFT, Path Of Exile, ArcheAge and 2 other small steam games. I don't use Itunes. On the buttom right corner where my clock is I only have up Raptr, AVG, CCleaner and that's it..
It's been doing this for maybe 2 weeks. I I use Windows 7. The only time I update my laptop is when I go to Control Panel and click "Windows Update" and see if there's any.
i have been having a problem for the past few months on my hp dv2416 laptop. atleast a few times per day, the screen gets completely jumbled, the laptop freezes, and i must restart.
i've attached some pictures of what the screen looks like after the jumble for clarification. it basically just jumbles up whatever is on the screen at that moment, and then freezes it.
I have a Inspiron17R N7010 and when I turn it on the windows start up screen freezes up. I was going to do a system restore but don't know how since windows 7 never finishes loading.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm still on my XPS M170, planning to moved to a Macbook Pro next year because of certain reasons but anyways its still working. some wear and tear on the paint.
Some questions:
If your XPS M170 has Windows Vista which drivers are you running?
OR if it has Windows XP which drivers are you running?
and how's your XPSM170?
For those who moved on /Upgraded to a better system, what is it? WHat did you did with your XPS M170 / Gen 2?
If my laptop turns on, it either freezes, BSODs, or black screens (could be anywhere from the windows loading logo to doing some work on word, etc.)
And if it doesnt turn on, well it does; the hdd light goes on (for a second), same with the battery light (the battery light is fine though), but the screen is black; i can hear hdd activity though and if i throw a cd in there, it spins properly and whatnot, but it just doesnt do anything past the blank screen.
An external monitor doesnt work, and reformatting seemed to have helped abit, but then it just got worse 2 days ago; I can't get past the black screen after I turn it on.
I'm 99% sure its a hardware problem, and I'd be willing to replace whatever it is if I knew what it was, but I dont know if it's the hdd, or the ram, or the video card, etc.
I've also taken the laptop apart; so reseating the ram and hdd doesnt work.
When I plug in an HDMI cable to my laptop the screen freezes and a black box forms around the screen. The only thing I can see is my desktop background image. Can't do anything, system is totally frozen. When I disconnect it everything works great again. What do I need to do? I'm using a HP ENVY DV7-7250us with WIN7 (64bit) installed ...
