HP Pavilion Dv7 OS/Software :: Hard Disk Test Failed - Boot Device Not Found

Jun 15, 2013

I have a Pavilion dv7 1245dx with Windows Vista 64 Bit bought 2009 at Best Buy.  It slid off the arm of the couch onto a carpeted floor while shut down.  Next day started ok, got into yahoo, facebook, then kind of froze up.  Eventually, would not do anything, manually shut it down, started it back up. Black screen, 'No Bootable Device-Insert Boot Disc And Press Any Key'. It will not accept recovery discs that I made after purchase. Start up test ok, memory test ok, hard disk failed 'Boot Drive Not Found'. Caps lock light is blinking.  I saw something in a forum about resetting or reseating the hard drive but no explanantion how to do it.

HP Pavilion G6 2141ca OS/Software :: Driver Required For Unknown Device - Windows 8.1

Apr 3, 2013

I have installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop HP pavilion G6 model 2241sa. Almost all drivers were installed automatically. Additionally I downloaded from HP support site all drivers for similar model (2241nr).

I installed everything one be one. All works BUT ONE device is not recognised... Here are some details of it:

It says Unknown device  (in Other devices group) with yellow exclamation mark. Location - on PCI Express Root Complex. bios device name -  _SB. PCI0.ACEL, hardware ID - ACPI VEN_HPQ& DEV_0004. That's all i have about this device.

How to establish which driver I need and for which device?

Lenovo P500 P/Y/Z Series :: Default Boot Device Missing Or Boot Failed

May 25, 2014

My Ideapoad P500 is approximately 16 months old (so the warranty period is out, obviously!) A couple of nights after a reboot I got the message "Repairing Hard Disk errors. This could take an hour or longer."... or something very similar. The laptop hung up at that message for more than 18 hours.

I did a hard reboot and now get the message "Checking media" followed by the error "Boot failed." This leads to the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed."No I don't have any recovery media.Yes I have pretty recent backups so that is not a problem.I've got an enclosure that I can use to hook my laptop hard drive up to so I can see if the drive is even readable.

Now here is the 64 thousand dollar question... how do I get the hard drive out of the laptop? I have taken the five screws out of the back. At that point, I think the DVD drive should slide out, but it does not.how to get the hard drive out?

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y500 / Default Boot Device Missing Or Boot Failed

Jul 31, 2013

I have a y500 Lenovo gaming laptop with Windows 8, and for the past couple of days, each time my laptop is put in hibernation or powered down, whenever I turn it back on it gives me this message:

"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."

Then it brings me to a page with 3 boot options, and only the Windows Boot Manager works. I'm doing scans and hardware scans but so far nothing is being found. This laptop is less than 2 months old so I really don't think it's a hardware problem, and I haven't downloaded anything recently that may have messed this up. I would contact Lenovo but I'm unsure if this is an issue with the laptop, or Windows 8.

Acer Aspire E1 522-3657 :: Default Boot Device Missing Or Boot Failed

Oct 11, 2014

I have a Acer E1 522-3657 computer, which my son set-up for me but did not make the recovery disc(s). The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.

I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".

Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.

I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way.  I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.

In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.

HP OS/Software :: Boot Device Not Found On Pavilion 11-h013dx X2 Pc

Oct 28, 2014

I have an HP Pavilion 11-h013dx x2 pc running windows 8 and this weekend all of a sudden my computer shut down. When I restarted it I was given a blue screen which gave me the option to restore and refresh. I tried both options but the computer shut down when it got to 15% of restoring. Then when I turned on the computer it gives me a black screen saying boot device not found. I hit F10, enter, F9, enter, then exited and saved, that did nothing. I ran the hard disk check which passed. I ran the memory check and that failed with the code RQDATS-6T079C-MFPWWK-002103. I can't remember what other screen I was on when I got a different error code, but this one came up as well at some point and I wrote it down RQDATS-6T079B-MFPWWK-001H03.

HP Pavilion G6 Recovery :: Can't Detect Boot Device After Factory Format To New HDD

Nov 26, 2014

I have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this. The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Y510P Webcam Disappear - Unknown USB Device Descriptor Request Failed

Mar 28, 2014

Today I found an error in device manager "unknown usb device descriptor request failed" with error code 43. Then I found out webcam doesn't work/disappear. So I try to fix the problem and reset bios setting seem to get it back.

But in windows when I try to use webcam, at first it seem to work normally but after a few minutes it disappear and reappear immediately. Repeating this a few time it was again disappeared with the same "unknown usb device descriptor request failed" error.

Repeating the same bios thing again and it's back, running normally. Then I leave webcam program on(cyberlink youcam) to observe. It working fine for around ten minutes then it was repeating disappear and reappear again and this time it blinking like in this video [URL] .... so I turn off webcam, leave it for minutes and running youcam again and it's back to normal(Still working normally when I post this (working for around 25 minute now)).

What cause this. Does this mean my webcam is failing?

Also my webcam LED indicator flickering rapidly like the light bulb when turn webcam on and stop flickering when I point the bright light to the webcam. Is this normal?

Right after I post this it disappear and reappear again but only one time not repeating.

Now "unknown usb device descriptor request failed"  is back and webcam disappear again.

HP Compaq CQ50-NR215 Networking :: Bad Recovery - Laptop Failed To Boot (Error 1005)

Jan 5, 2015

This Compaq CQ50-NR215 has continued to get slower over time. It was bought at BestBuy, and came with (2) "GeekSquad" recovery CD's- as opposed to a  Microsoft OS disk? Upon backing up my data, I proceded with Disk1- which it said successfully did something with the partition. Stage two was installing original software. It stalled during this stage & gave ERROR 1005. After removing the CD, the laptop failed to boot, stating that some device in the boot sector was not present.

It so happened that I had a Vista OS CD from some other computer, so I inserted the CD & tried reboot. After asking whether to repair/install windows (which I selected install), it appeared to going well. The greeting message appears & says "Prepearing your DESKTOP for initial use". It booted fine, the UI appears intact. The problem-

The WLAN light on the laptop which is red when turned off/blue when on- remains red & will not activate. In the device manager I find no network adapter. A section named "Other Devices" is highlighted in yellow indicating an issue- when selecting Other Devices, a submenu appears & the following list is present (see photo also)

Coprocessor
Ethernet Controller
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device.

From the HP driver download section, I downloaded what I thought may be the appropriate chipset to a flash drive, then moved to the laptop & installed. Still nothing.

It was suggested that I may be able to plug an ethernet cable directly from my router to the laptop & gain internet access that way- which failed, no access. The CD I installed from was designed for an older desktop, not having the software to make use of the internal wifi.
