Will not boot..has the error msg "Boot device not found" "please install an OS on your hard disk". Has "2" flashing lights, can only access F1 & F2 from boot menu. F9,F10 & "enter to continue setup" options take u right back to initial error msg screen.
In F2 diagnostics, ran memory test and passed but failed hard drive test on both quick & extensive. Failed id#M0FW03-6AD79M-XD7X0K-60CM03.
the Hard drive on my HP ENVY dv4 crashed and I have replaced it with a Samsung SSD 840 PRO. Today, I was prompted by the HP Support Assistant software that a BIOS update was available, so I had the application download and install the update. When the computer came back up, it is stating the a boot device cannot be found.
I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m7-j010dx Notebook PC running Windows 8.1. Laptop was functioning just fine prior to the update, which means I probably shouldn't have allowed the BIOS update.

I need to press the power button twice, Frist press the power button lights and the wireless lights and the screen activate with a glow, then black no lights and black screen press power button again and boots normally and fine No error or warnings

F2 System Diagnostics
When I run the system diagnostics for the Hard Disk Test, it says:
"Hard Disk Test Failed
Hard disk not exist"
What do I do? I went to the website but its suggesting that I basically may have to do a system recovery to the factory installed state...I have a lot of stuff I don't want to lose.
I also tried removing the hard drive and putting it back in, that didn't help either.
I called tech support and I still have my warrranty so I will be getting a Hp box to put my tablet in within a few days. But they told me I would most likely lose all the data I have saved.
Then I used a liveCD in hopes of backing up my harddrive but the liveCD won't even boot..unless im doing it wrong...( burn iso to CD, then load CD into laptop, and press f10? and/or turn on computer with CD inserted in and then let it load if it wants to?)
I just got my Inspiron 14 for my birthday in March and Its died on me (I assume). It's still under warranty, but im not entirely sure how or where to send it to get it fixed. I still have the original box it came in as well and would love to get it fixed as soon as possible, but I would rather fix it myself if possible.Upon starting the laptop, a black screen appears with the message, "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I ran a diagnostic and it said that the hard drive wasn't installed and that the CPU fan went out. I removed the back of the laptop and checked the fan which seems to be running absolutely fine. I took the error code it produced and searched it on the website and it told me to download the latest BIOS but I can't because the laptop won't start up to where I can get on the internet.

When I restarted it I was given a blue screen which gave me the option to restore and refresh. I tried both options but the computer shut down when it got to 15% of restoring. Then when I turned on the computer it gives me a black screen saying boot device not found. I hit F10, enter, F9, enter, then exited and saved, that did nothing. I ran the hard disk check which passed. I ran the memory check and that failed with the code RQDATS-6T079C-MFPWWK-002103. I can't remember what other screen I was on when I got a different error code, but this one came up as well at some point and I wrote it down RQDATS-6T079B-MFPWWK-001H03.

I waited for 5-10 minutes and tried to close the game but it wasn't closing and it was hung. I read on the Dell support website the laptop may need setting up in maintenance mode?
However after pressing alt+f at the Dell logo nothing happens it just tries to boot.
I have an Alien M14x that when turned on displays the message "checking media" then the message "no boot device found hit any key to reboot". Of course when you hit a key it restarts the messages. I followed another feed and hit F2 to reset defaults with F9 with no success. When I tried to diagnose with F12 it says hard drive not installed???!! Haven't altered or changed anything and it stopped working less than 2 years old but out of warranty.

I have a hp pavilion touch 14 notebook pc which turned out to have a faulty Hard disk as the OS was not booting and the system test's indicated that the hard disk had errors. I replaced the hard disk with a new one and before installing the Hard Disk I formatted it with a win 8.1 installation. I was thinking the laptop would just boot normally to win8, but instead gave me a screen saying:

The hard disk is new and I don't no how its giving me this error!
Also, this laptop doesn't seem to want to boot from a cd to format!

I saw something in a forum about resetting or reseating the hard drive but no explanantion how to do it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this. The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.

"Recovery. Your PC needs to be repaired. The boot configuration data file is missing some required information. File: BCD. Error code: 00xc0000034. You need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. Is your don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. Press ESC for UEFI firmware settings. "
After pressing the ESC button opens a Startup Menu with a choose an actions like: f1 - system information (worked), f2 - system diagnostic (worked), f9 - boot device options (doesn't work) , f10 - BIOS setup (doesn't work), f11 - system recovery (doesn't work). When I click on these buttons (f9, f10, f11) again loaded a blue screen with an error. On the usb-drives with images does not respond in any way.

I do the restart and it gets part way through and the screen goes dark and hours later the screen is still dark. I press the power button and it says something like :Trying to recover install" and from there on nothing happens. I finally end up having to go back to windows 8.

He changed the user name to a fake email address so retreiving the password is impossible and would you believe he forgot the password. How do I do a reset? Also, this laptop has no disc capabilities. Ive been told Ill have to open up the back of the computer, remove the 'watch' battery and RAM sticks while pressing power, then replace everything. Sounds simple, but i know very little about computers, beyond basic user software.
