I want to boot from USB in order to install another OS like Ubuntu and Else
Will not boot..has the error msg "Boot device not found" "please install an OS on your hard disk". Has "2" flashing lights, can only access F1 & F2 from boot menu. F9,F10 & "enter to continue setup" options take u right back to initial error msg screen.
In F2 diagnostics, ran memory test and passed but failed hard drive test on both quick & extensive. Failed id#M0FW03-6AD79M-XD7X0K-60CM03.

From a cold state ( computer been off for a more then hour). I need to press the power button twice, Frist press the power button lights and the wireless lights and the screen activate with a glow, then black no lights and black screen press power button again and boots normally and fine No error or warnings
This does not seem to be normal and I can not remember the last time it booted from the first power button push.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 (Model: 15-b022es) in which i'm tryig to install Linux. Since the day I bought it, I've been unable to boot anything directly through USB. I've searched a lot on this topic, and the usual causes are Boot devices order, Secure boot or Legacy Support options. That is certainly not the case, since I have tried all possible combinations. In fact, the exact symptoms that my laptop exhibits aren't described anywhere I've found. This being:
If I insert an USB drive in any port of the laptop, it renders the computer completely unable to boot. It's not that it freezes, it restarts again and again, but never goes beyound a black screen and making some HDD sounds (usual boot up sounds, nothing weird). Within this state, with the USB still inserted, I can access the BIOS configuration by pressing F10, but can not access boot devices menu (usually available at F9), because pressing F9 will just cause a new reboot.
In the past I accessed the boot menu by not inserting any USB and then pressing F9, then I entered the USB, entered and left some random folder to force refresh the display (and so show the USB), and finally selected my USB. This is a bit hacky, and I can no longer apply this solution, since my HDD is completely erased now and there is no folder I can enter to refresh the screen and display the usb drive.
Now the thing is: I can't manage to install any operating system back into my laptop if I can't boot from USB, so how can I do that? Right now all I get are continuous resets of the machine before even getting to the boot menu. And what is the cause for all those reset?
The audio off my HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15 PC goes on and off too often.Once the audio is gone I am able to get the audio again only after I restart my laptop 4-5 times.

I reinstalled my computer, but when it got to the point where you set sound defult, it wouldn't work. The sections "Configure" and "Properties" worked, but "Set Default" wouldn't. I am so frustrated because I need sound and video to do a lot of things on my computer.

I got my son this laptop for xmas and immediately tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and the screen went blank. I restored the laptop after alot of effort and haven't tried updating it since....with the new Windows 8.1 update coming out April 8, and any fixes to HP drivers, does the upgrade process will now work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP pavilion touchsmart sleekbook 14-b133tx laptop running windows 8 and is still in warranty because of a faulty touchscreen. A few days ago my touchpad is not working properly. when i tap the touchpad it does a richt click and when i move my finger in resizes my icons. I look at device manager at it says that the device is working properly.
The touchpad works normally after booting but stops after a few minutes along with the keyboard (i am using the touchscreen as i type this). When i go to the mouse settings there is an error "cannot connect to synaptics pointing device driver" it prompted me to uninstall so i did but the driver won't uninstall. I tried to uninstall it on device manager then rebooted my pc then reinstalled it again but the problem is still present.
Now the touchpad is not working at all and the keyboard stops a few minutes to hours after logging into windows ang fixes itself when i reboot my pc but stops working again after some time. In the device manager there is now an error in the touchpad "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24)". I already did a hard reset, the sfc/scannow, a system restore, and I already used system recovery to revert back to its factory settings but the touchpad is still not working (still error code 24) and the keyboard still stops responding after a few minutes.
I have an "HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx" laptop that is about two weeks past warranty and the screen went blank. I currently have an old crt monitor hooked up to it and everyting works fine with the machine -- just cant see the screen. Will i need to replace the entire display or can i just replace the chord/ribbon from the display thru the hinges to the main unit?

I do the restart and it gets part way through and the screen goes dark and hours later the screen is still dark. I press the power button and it says something like :Trying to recover install" and from there on nothing happens. I finally end up having to go back to windows 8.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b002ev with Windows 8.1. I experience the following problem. Sometimes I have audio and sometimes I don't, without a particular pattern. I may watch a video with no problem, but on the next video the sound will be off. I have tried everything. Uninstalling the IDT codec and re-installing it and un-checking the exclusive mode. The same thing happens even after installing the latest IDT Codec (6.10.6425.0). When audio is off, I'm trying to test the speakers and the message that this device is being used by another application, is appearing.

He changed the user name to a fake email address so retreiving the password is impossible and would you believe he forgot the password. How do I do a reset? Also, this laptop has no disc capabilities. Ive been told Ill have to open up the back of the computer, remove the 'watch' battery and RAM sticks while pressing power, then replace everything. View 2 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago, I was prompted on my HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx (C2K73UA) with auto-update for Wins 8.1. I accepted and now my computer will not boot up and it rendered it unusable.
It attempts to start up but then just goes black forever.How can I recover? There is not disk drive, I have not boot up disk or any way to try to force a reboot.

I just got a brand new HP Envy. However, i have not been able to maintain a wifi connection. Usually it will not connect to my wifi or will only connect for a few minutes and then say 'limited' and then not connect at all. I did the full windows updates for the computer. I updated the drivers for the wifi adapter. I updated the firmware to my router. I also uninstalled norton. None of these have worked, still will not connect or will connect and drop within a few minutes. My system information is as follows:

I have two ipads, two iphones, an xbox, a windows phone, two toshiba laptops, and one hp pavillion DM3 that are able to connect and maintain wifi connection with no problem (not all connected at the some time necessarily-it is not an overloading problem). The network is running fine, i just cannot figure out what the problem is with this HP Envy.
I think I have a hard disk failure or error. It states the disk name:TOSHIBA MQ01ABF050 and the volume C:;D: . I have a HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14 with windows 8.1 (I upgraded from the Windows 8 which came in with the laptop) and I unknowingly created a recovery image on a Windows 8 compatible usb successfully when I was already experiencing problems with my laptop hard drive. I later found out that it is not recommended to create a recovery image on a windows 8 compatible usb.
I'm hoping to just go back to factory settings and wipe out all my files if that can get my laptop back in working condition as I have already backed up my important documents to USB. My following question's are
1.) Will the recovery image that I created with the usb that's windows 8 compatible not work if I try to do a factory reset?
2.) Will the recovery image that I created while having the errors already, be techically "clean," meaning it has all the necessary components for a running laptop once I replace my hard drive or do a recovery with the current hard drive in place?
3.) Will I be able to restore from the recovery partition? or does the hard disk failure affect that drive as well?
My USB flash drive is also compatible with windows 8 AND 7. Is it possible to just transfer it to just a windows 7 compatible usb if I'll encounter problems due to the windows 8 compatibility of the flash drive I've used for the recovery image creation.
I just got my new HP ENVY laptop. Product Name: m6-k025dx. It runs on Windows 8 64-bit. I am experiencing sudden, frequent loss of my Wifi connection. When it gets disconnected I don't even get the Connect To slider (which slides from the right side of the screen and shows the list of networks) on clicking the network button at bottom right corner of the screen. I need to restart my laptop to get connected again and after 5-7 minutes, I lose it again.
editing the Power Plan to maximum performance and unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but nothing seems to work.
The network driver is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230. I have also updated the driver and turned off Bluetooth and ethernet
Laptop is only 9 months old. I did all of the updates and then my touchscreen stopped working - that was 4 days ago. Today I did a system restore to the point before the 1st critical update (9/24/14). It still does not work. Did it corrupt my driver? And if so, what is the name of the driver? How can I restore the touch screen...

I can't set a resolution higher than 1366 x 768 though according to specs the native resolution is 1920 x 1080. I updated the Intel HD graphic driver and the BIOS but that did not work. Did HP possibly reinstall a wrong display as part of the refurbish?
