I got my son this laptop for xmas and immediately tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 and the screen went blank. I restored the laptop after alot of effort and haven't tried updating it since....with the new Windows 8.1 update coming out April 8, and any fixes to HP drivers, does the upgrade process will now work?
View 2 RepliesI just got my new HP ENVY laptop. Product Name: m6-k025dx. It runs on Windows 8 64-bit. I am experiencing sudden, frequent loss of my Wifi connection. When it gets disconnected I don't even get the Connect To slider (which slides from the right side of the screen and shows the list of networks) on clicking the network button at bottom right corner of the screen. I need to restart my laptop to get connected again and after 5-7 minutes, I lose it again.
editing the Power Plan to maximum performance and unchecking "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but nothing seems to work.
The network driver is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230. I have also updated the driver and turned off Bluetooth and ethernet

From a cold state ( computer been off for a more then hour). I need to press the power button twice, Frist press the power button lights and the wireless lights and the screen activate with a glow, then black no lights and black screen press power button again and boots normally and fine No error or warnings
This does not seem to be normal and I can not remember the last time it booted from the first power button push.

I do the restart and it gets part way through and the screen goes dark and hours later the screen is still dark. I press the power button and it says something like :Trying to recover install" and from there on nothing happens. I finally end up having to go back to windows 8.

He changed the user name to a fake email address so retreiving the password is impossible and would you believe he forgot the password. How do I do a reset? Also, this laptop has no disc capabilities. Ive been told Ill have to open up the back of the computer, remove the 'watch' battery and RAM sticks while pressing power, then replace everything. Sounds simple, but i know very little about computers, beyond basic user software.

AHCI is currently disabled on my computer and I wish to enable it to get the most performance out of it. It can easily be enabled via the windows registry but to get it working i need to be sure that AHCI is currently enabled in the BIOS aswell. When I enter the BIOS there just isnt any advanced options available, only time and date and other basics. How do i find out wether or not AHCI is enabled in the BIOS? How do i get access to the advanced options in the BIOS to turn on AHCI (if it isnt already enabled that is)?
I have an "HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx" laptop that is about two weeks past warranty and the screen went blank. I currently have an old crt monitor hooked up to it and everyting works fine with the machine -- just cant see the screen. Will i need to replace the entire display or can i just replace the chord/ribbon from the display thru the hinges to the main unit?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago, I was prompted on my HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx (C2K73UA) with auto-update for Wins 8.1. I accepted and now my computer will not boot up and it rendered it unusable.
It attempts to start up but then just goes black forever.How can I recover? There is not disk drive, I have not boot up disk or any way to try to force a reboot.
I just got a brand new HP Envy. However, i have not been able to maintain a wifi connection. Usually it will not connect to my wifi or will only connect for a few minutes and then say 'limited' and then not connect at all. I did the full windows updates for the computer. I updated the drivers for the wifi adapter. I updated the firmware to my router. I also uninstalled norton. None of these have worked, still will not connect or will connect and drop within a few minutes. My system information is as follows:

I have two ipads, two iphones, an xbox, a windows phone, two toshiba laptops, and one hp pavillion DM3 that are able to connect and maintain wifi connection with no problem (not all connected at the some time necessarily-it is not an overloading problem). The network is running fine, i just cannot figure out what the problem is with this HP Envy.
Laptop is only 9 months old. I did all of the updates and then my touchscreen stopped working - that was 4 days ago. Today I did a system restore to the point before the 1st critical update (9/24/14). It still does not work. Did it corrupt my driver? And if so, what is the name of the driver? I can't set a resolution higher than 1366 x 768 though according to specs the native resolution is 1920 x 1080. I updated the Intel HD graphic driver and the BIOS but that did not work. Did HP possibly reinstall a wrong display as part of the refurbish?

When I restart my computer, my sound works for an hour or two and then suddenly shuts off. It does this with or without headphones. It works again as soon as I restart the computer, but I'd really love not to have to restart my computer every hour just to get the sound to work.
Also- downloading Windows 8 isn't an option as a lot of my work is incompatible with windows 8.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP ENVY 17r laptop. So I installed WIndows 8.1 the other day and everytime I startup my laptop I get this error:

The program can't start because MSVCR110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
I then went and uninstalled the 3D Driveguard but then encountered another error:

I also tried to install the driver for the 3D DriveGuard but when I did so I ran into yet another error:
The HP 3D DriveGuard driver cannot install, the Accelerometer hardware is not present or supported on this unit. (Click OK to exit).
My system is HP Envy m6 1104tx. It came with Windows 8 (64-bit) preinstalled and everything was fine until I chose to upgrade to Windows 8.1.
After checking with CompMgmt.msc I found that I had RaLink 3290 802.11 Wi-Fi adapter. Just below Network adapters I have 'Other Devices' and under it 'Bluetooth Controller' with a yellow exclamation mark on it. I tried updating the drivers, but it says "Windows was unable to install bluetooth controller' (could not find driver software for your device).
I updated almost all the possible device drivers, but this 'Bluetooth Controller' still shows a yellow exclamation on it.
Also in CompMgmt.msc I dont find 'Bluetooth' or 'Bluetooth Module' but instead there is a 'Bluetooth Profiles Devices' and inside that 'Bluetooth Profile Interface Driver'. I tried updating it but the result was again as mentioned above.
So, how do I troubleshoot this? How do I get Bluetooth work on my Envy m6?
And yes I ran HP Support Assistance, but it says everything's fine. And in reality it isn't, Bluetooth not working.
I attempted to upgrade my Win 8.1 ENVY DV7-7230US laptop to Win 8.1 via the App store. It said I had to clear all the updates first. So I went the System Updates Screen. When I clicked on it to see what updates were needed. The circling wait symbol appeared and never went away. I can not do any system updates, thus I can not download and install the FREE Win8.1 upgrade.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b002ev with Windows 8.1. I experience the following problem. Sometimes I have audio and sometimes I don't, without a particular pattern. I may watch a video with no problem, but on the next video the sound will be off. I have tried everything. Uninstalling the IDT codec and re-installing it and un-checking the exclusive mode. The same thing happens even after installing the latest IDT Codec (6.10.6425.0). When audio is off, I'm trying to test the speakers and the message that this device is being used by another application, is appearing.

I have a HP Pavilion TS Sleekbook 14 with windows 8.1 (I upgraded from the Windows 8 which came in with the laptop) and I unknowingly created a recovery image on a Windows 8 compatible usb successfully when I was already experiencing problems with my laptop hard drive. I later found out that it is not recommended to create a recovery image on a windows 8 compatible usb.
I'm hoping to just go back to factory settings and wipe out all my files if that can get my laptop back in working condition as I have already backed up my important documents to USB. My following question's are
1.) Will the recovery image that I created with the usb that's windows 8 compatible not work if I try to do a factory reset?
2.) Will the recovery image that I created while having the errors already, be techically "clean," meaning it has all the necessary components for a running laptop once I replace my hard drive or do a recovery with the current hard drive in place?
3.) Will I be able to restore from the recovery partition? or does the hard disk failure affect that drive as well?
My USB flash drive is also compatible with windows 8 AND 7. Is it possible to just transfer it to just a windows 7 compatible usb if I'll encounter problems due to the windows 8 compatibility of the flash drive I've used for the recovery image creation.
My Pavilion TS 14 Sleekbook running Windows 8 did two updates today that required restart for both. I don't know what the updates were, I have it set to autoload important updates. When I tried to "flip" my lock screen to enter my password to open, the screen did nothing but show energy waves around my fingertip. Used the keyboard to open to password page. Tried to pull up touch screen keyboard, nothing. Used regular keyboard to type in password and then the touchscreen works fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded the operating system on my HP Envy dv-7-7240 laptop today from Windows 8 to 8.1 (64 bit), which included Explorer 11. It went pretty much as planned and everything was working fine except my web speeds slowed down to a crawl. I disabled all the add-ons, and reset explorer, but that didn't work.
Note: I was experiencing slow internet (I'm on cable by the way) and a couple of other issues that I couldn't get resolved, the main reason I upgraded to 8.1. It resolved all of the problems except for the slow internet.
I have a ENVY Touchsmart 15-j070us, and updated to Windows 8.1, 64 bit. Now my webcam is not working.
