Sony :: Replacing CPU Cooling Paste

Apr 9, 2009

I have just disasembled and cleaned, (to the best of my abilty), my SONY SZ2XP comp using compressed gas. Hopefully,

it will yield some results getting rid of all the dust, although i did feel like i could have done better if i managed to disassemble it further to reach all affected areas.

I'll continue to my question though, I unscrewed the heatsink and noticed that the thermal paste on the cpu looked really misapplied.

It has some big lumps of paste and seems very unevenly applied. I have owned this computer for about 2 years or so, and i have never disassembled it until now

Dell :: Replacing Laptop Fans, And General Cooling Tips For D830

Aug 20, 2009

I'd like to replace the fan in my laptop (Dell's Latitude d830) with a faster/better one. From what I've seen, most people seem to think that this is impossible.

I, however, find this hard to believe that Dell would have included the only possible fan that's compatible with this laptop, or that this particular fan is the best possible cooling option.

Why is it so hard to upgrade in the first place? I'm sure it can be done, I've opened up my laptop a few times in the past and it's not exactly rocket science .....

Sony :: SZ3 Cooling Fan

May 23, 2010

I bought my Sony three years ago. The Model was SZ3VMP/X, 13.3 inch with Core2Duo T7400 and 2GB RAM and 120GB HDD.

Everything was ok till last year. It becames louder and louder. I cleaned Heat sink and still it was loud.

After that I found there is cooling fan, above left from the Touchpad. Last two days I can hear noises like fan is dying.

Is it possible to buy this fan somewhere, when not to open it and clean it. It looks like pretty complicate to open that part of Notebook. To remove the keyboard wasn't a problem or HDD.

Sony :: Cooling Pad For SZ Series

Oct 28, 2009

My SZ-770 become extremely loud and can be used as waffle maker sometimes.

I've disassembled it and cleaned all the dust using compressed air, but it's too hot and too noisy.

I'm thinking about buying a cooling pad to partially solve the problem. But most of pads have fans on the bottom and I'm not sure that it will fix my problem.

Can anyone recommend a good pad for SZ series?

Sony :: Replacing An SZ With?

Oct 26, 2009

I have just upgraded my old Sony Vaio VGN SZ370P to WIN 7 and I am very happy with it.

The computer still performs beautifully. However, I know that as a laptop its end is near (Three years and hundreds of thousands of miles.)

It is already running very hot, though that does not seem to be affecting it at this point.

My question is simple, I have noticed that the SZ line seems to have disappeared. It looks like it has been replaced by the Z line

Sony :: Replacing HDD On Vaio VGN-TZ37

May 9, 2010

I am a frequent traveller who needs a reliable and ultra-portable notebook. I have owned a Sony Vaio VGN-TZ37 for almost 18 months. While I like it very much, it is very slow to boot up (XP). For that reason, I decided to replace the notorious in-built HDD with a SDD.

I have succeeded in replacing the original one with a Photofast G-Monster 1.8” ZIF SSD V 4 and am very happy with the result. The following is my experience.

When I decided to change to SSD, I did a lot of internet search and finally took 3 key decisions:
(1)Which SDD? – After a lot of search, I settled for G-Monster 1.8” ZIF SSD V 4. It is not the least expensive, but I am happy with the results.

(2)DIY? – A few repair shops could provide the service but they could not assure compatibility or system installation.

I decided to do it myself which is a good decision because I had to re-open the case 3 times.
(3)Secret of opening the case – There are a few weblinks offer pictures and tips on the internet. They are essential for non-technical people like me .....

Sony :: Replacing CPU In Vaio SR41 (T6400 -> P8800)

Aug 6, 2009

I'm currently thinking of buying a Sony SR series laptop, but unfortunately here in Sweden we only get two configurations:
Vaio SR49 - P8800, Radeon 3470 256MB
Vaio SR41 - T6400, Radeon 4750 512MB

Since I would like P8800+Radeon 4750, the only possible way seems to get a SR41 and upgrade the cpu. Has anyone here got any experience on upgrading a laptop CPU? More specifically, upgrading from a T-series to a P-series.

I guess they use the same motherboards, so I can't imagine it would be incompatible, but I'm wondering whether it requires any BIOS changes which would be hard to do in a laptop bios.

Sony :: SZ71WN/C Replacing Internal Wireless 4965AGN

Oct 27, 2009

I think I need to replace my 4965AGN on my SZ71WN/C as my laptop will loose connectivity with my router for no reason. I get the dreaded unidentified error and the only way to resolve the issue is to reboot my laptop. This was happening even before I upgraded to Win7. Even on a vanialla Win7 install, with no antivirus, it happens. You could ask if it's my router (Netgear DG834GT), but another Vaio SZ that I have works fine....

So has anyone changed their WIFI module and if so, should I upgrade to one which is WIN7 compatiable out of the box?

Dell :: M1530 Gpu Thermal Paste?

Apr 22, 2009

I just had the motherboard/video card on my m1530 replaced by the dell guy because of the old defective graphics card issue. I watched him do the whole thing, and when he re-attached cooling mechanism to the motherboard, he used new thermal paste for the cpu, but not the video card.

I asked him about this, and he said that the surface of the gpu is different and doesn't need it. I don't really believe this, since it looks just like the desktop gpus that I always use thermal paste on. I'm getting pretty high temps now (65-70C idle).

Now the problem Is I have no idea where to apply it, or how much is needed. I dont really know anything about hardware components, so If anyone has any pics which could show me where and how much to apply that would great.

The M170 is currently in peices at my desk and Im typing this on a MacBook, and I really dont want to spend anymore time on the OSX than I have to.

Dell :: Changing Thermal Paste - M1530

Apr 22, 2009

Well i finally decided that i should give this a try after seeing my temps creep up by about 1 degreeC per week. I just ordered some Arctic Silver 5. Ive looked at all the thermal paste topics here and still have a few questions. Firstly, what exactly is the thermal pad and do i have to worry about it? I saw that some people had to remove the pad but when i read through

http://www.robertbromfield.com/Tutor...he%20M1530.pdf tutorial i didnt see anything about taking off or replacing a thermal pad.
Secondly, when applying the thermal paste, do i want to cover the whole "black square" of the cpu/gpu with a thin layer?

And lastly, i heard that this may void your warranty. I was wondering, if i did break my lappy somehow, couldnt i just clean it off so that when the tech guy comes i just claim that i never even opened it up?

Dell :: Warranty- Changing My Thermal Paste On My CPU And GPU Chipset

Unless you change the obvious purple/pink thermal pad at the ACPI chipset to copper sheet then it's a totally different story.

Dell :: Reapplied Thermal Paste - M1530 Hotter Than Ever

Jul 21, 2009

So ive been dabbling with the thermal paste on my m1530 for a few months now but havent really stressed the gpu to know for sure. Today however, while playing l4d, my gpu temp got up to 88 degrees C and my cpu was in the high 70s.

I havent seen these kinds of temps since i got my mobo/heatsink replaced a year ago. I have opened up my laptop and my fan looks a little dusty but i am not sure if that would warrant a 88 degree gpu temp.

I am wondering if this could be because i applied the paste incorrectly? I am quite sure i did it right and i followed the instructions that were posted on here for m1530s exactly.

Dell :: SXPS 1340 Thermal Paste Replacement Guide

Replacing Dell's default thermal paste in the Dell Studio XPS 1340 can lower your cpu, gpu and ambient temperatures by as much as 15C/60F.

When I first received my SXPS 1340 from Dell, my temperatures were:
THRM-57C, CPU-52C, GPU-62C.

For me, these temperatures were O.K., but I knew I could lower them by replacing the thermal paste.

My temperatures after replacing the thermal paste were:
THRM-48C, CPU-34C, GPU-50C. Note that after a month or two of having the MX-2 inside your computer, the cooler it will become as it settles
