just bought myself a Sony VPCF115FM, and love it. I live in Australia although i think this notebook is from the US as it had some BestBuy software on it when i first turned it on.. anyway..
I was just wondering, is it possible to put the brightness up higher? I went into control panel, then hardware, then display and it was already at it's highest, then i pressed the 'Fn' key and then kept pressing F6, and that too was already at its highest, but comparing the display to my mates Asus, or my other mates Toshiba, their displays are so much more brighter then my Sony, so is there ANY way at all to make it brighter? Also, is there any configuring i could do to the display to make it better in any way or form?
One more question, about the backlit keyboard, is it possible to keep it lit on at all times? I've heard there's a sensor somewhere, where if i block it with some tape, it will leave it on all the time? If so where abouts is it? Had a bit of a look but to no avail.
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my Sony VPCF115FM laptop, and I was wondering what I need to install to get the brightness control to work. I already tried the video drivers, shared library, and notebook utilities from this site:

But nothing seems to affect the brightness, even though I do see the brightness bar now when I press the appropriate keys.
I realize the 330M GT is not a tier 1 video card for gaming...but I'm curious if this card can drive the native 1920 by 1080 res of this laptop in modern games (MW2, Mass Effect 2, etc). I'm not looking for 60 frames per second...would be satisfied with 30...just trying to gauge if this is a reasonable expectation.
Closest answer I've found in the owner threads indicated that one person said it could run native on Left 4 Dead 2 and COD: World at War.
Very impressed by the performance of the i7 core and DDR3 memory...just hoping the video card can at least hold its own.
I bought SONY VAIO VPCF115 Model Laptop from Best Buy in Austin,TX in Feb 2010.
Up till now everything was working perfectly fine , until today morning when I powered ON my laptop nothing would come up! NO DISPLAY! I tried taking out the battery and putting back again, tried removing RAM and all possible options tried! the laptop is powering ON but its not displaying anything! nor the Hard drive is being read.
I am currently in India on vacation and having this problem.I don't know whether this is covered with SONY VAIO warranty , b'caz I didn't buy the accidental warranty from Best Buy.
I gave my laptop at SONY SERVICE Center here in India and they told me the MOTHERBOARD IS faulty and its not functioning , hence they need to repair the motherboard! I was like WHAT? how can that be possible even in the first place.
I just got a Sony VPCF115FM. I was wondering if there is a setting for the browser/webpage where it opens up and the size is what I prefer. Meaning that I don't have to keep using "Ctrl +" to enlarge the page.
i bought a Sony VGN-AW31XY/Q notebook. Fast processor, 2 SSDs, 18.4" display, 8GB ram AND a antiglare display.
BUT it's a wide gamut display and i'm a webdesigner. I didn't know there is such a huge difference between this and a "normal" display. Red and green are oversaturated like hell.
My question: HOW or CAN i change the colors to "normal"? The point is, calibrating Photoshop or any other color managed software is no problem. But i need color mangagement for ANY other software too (Flash, Google Chrome and so on). There must be a solution.
Isn't there a tool that loads on startup where i can adjust the colors? Not only brightness, contrast and gamma levels but saturation and hue also?
Whats the major difference between 16.4" VAIO Display (1600x900) and 16.4" VAIO extra-wide HD display (1920x1080). Upto what angle I could see my display in VAIO Display (1600x900)? Can I watch HD movies perfectly in VAIO Display (1600x900) ?
I recently purchased a brand new model of Sony Vao VPCEB1S1E/BJ from a local megastore. While the laptop is really to my liking, I am a little annoyed with the screen.
I know these laptops are those "energy star" models, that save power, but the display brightness is really not bright enough, even if I change the settings to the brightest possible leve
I would like to buy a vaio, but i can't find the right. I'm lookink for 14"-16" display with resolution over 1600x900,
ssd drive and new intel ( i3-i5-i7). Would be somethink available on these specs? I' m looking for that specs overs 6 months and hoped that somethink would announced on ces
Are you guys using the display driver from the Sony esupport website or the ATI software support website??
I just wanted to know which driver was better or if they are both the same thing? Also is the display driver from ATI more update then the Sony esupport?
If I keep game client running, the display won't turn off even if I set the time in power management. Is there another way to turn it off? I'm using SR model.
i bought SR590GYB for two days, but i see some noise or stripe lines on the display when i watch from 10 or 20cm from screen, it's not really clear, you should be very Precisian to see these noise.
I have FZ21S with original Vista Home. The only reason I didnt settle for XP was exactly the dimmer noise, any other setting than full brightness had the annoying noise.
It wasnt the case on Vista, used it for over a year without issues but since couple of days I have it on Vista too. It is the kind of dimmer or broken fluorescent lamp kind of buzz.
I doubt it is hardware fault, more likely something messed up with the Nvidia driver.
Another Nvidia driver , it is the latest Sony Support update - 7.15.11.6760
I bought Full HD display, but I was dissapinted when I connected it to my laptop and found out that i cant set the full hd resolution and that only other 16:9 is 1366x768 which is the same as the laptops display.
Is this hardware problem (TZ240 does not support full hd resolution) or is something wrong with my video drivers?
I suggest you try this before voting if you did not already tweaked your monitor profile: Vaio_F11 Monitor Profiles Roundup & US glossy vs. EU Premium Displays.
From the FAQ: "You may view the current results for a poll before you vote by clicking the 'View Results' link". Click any blue number to see all the user names.
So non-Vaio_F11 owners, don't skew the results as we can see your user name.
You can only vote once & can't change it by Notebookreview's poll rules.
I've problems starting my Vaio SZ2. They occured one day without changing anything (Hardware or Software) before.
If i push the power button, the screen backlight turns on but remains grey/black. No vaio logo, no boot screen, no bios access! I unscrewed the whole computer (3 years old) and checked all the cables. Then i released the screen cable from the graphic chip and tried booting with an external display! And that worked!
It seems to be a problem of the display/display cable or the graphic card.
I just got my FW 590 CTO a week ago, and two days after I got it I noticed a buzzing sound coming from the display when the brightness is set to anything other than maximum.
This is the customization I am thinking of getting:

I replaced the screen on this FW and installed a OS every thing was fine for a wile then it would act like it cuts in and out then out for good i can see small light blue screen when it turns on , i connected it to my desktop monitor and every thing is fine shows up good, could the ribbon on the back of the screen be mis aligned or something , i checked under the keyboard and every thing seems fine there
Also i see the wireless button is not working and it states turn on the wireless but with the button not working , how do you go about turning it on ,, must be a physical connection to it, any easy fixes with out tearing it down ?
I just connect my VGN-Z591U to my XBR-1080P via 1.3 HDMI cable.I'm very disapointed about how the text look on the screen. It look very crappy, but orthewise picture and movie look perfect. When I chage setting to 720p the text look better but pictures and movies become worse.
I just bought a second-hand Sony Vaio TZ 390, which came with Vista. I updated to Windows 7 and installed all the drivers. Everything seems to work but I cannot get the Vaio TZ to output to the external display. What happens is the external lcd gets a signal initially when I turn on the Vaio TZ (connected to the lcd) but it loses the signal shortly after I log into Windows 7. Btw, the lcd I use is a Samsung 2333HD.
I have a VGN-AR550U laptop. According to the property page for the Display adapter it is: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT. I want to be able to run a Powerpoint presentation where the slides are being shown on a big screen and the notes are shown on the laptop screen. I understand this has to be done thru a dual monitor type of setup. Can I test this without actually hooking up the big screen or does it automatically go into a dual monitor mode when you plug in the second monitory. When I select presenter view it says I don't have a second monitor.
Recently I have been receiving a ridiculous amount of BSOD's. Today alone I have received at least 15 of them and they all display the same message "There was a display driver timeout".
It always happens randomly and I can never repeat the exact situation. It just BSOD when it wants.
The error code which appears is: atikmdag 0x00000116 (0x86eb9510, 0x8f228c14, 0x00000000, 0x00000002)
