Acer Aspire 5733Z :: ETD Control Center High CPU Usage 50% ( ELAN Touchpad )
Dec 4, 2014
I have an acer Aspire 5733Z and all of a sudden I am having an issue with the ETD Control Center (ETDCtrl.exe) using and average of 50% CPU usage.
It's causing my laptop to lockup and go slow.
This just started today and came out of nowhere, I've never had an issue before.
Here's the list of recent changes and/or updates I've made. But they were 3 days ago: Norton Security SuiteJava 7 update 71Acer System Information I can't seem to find anything about this.
I've had my acer aspire 5101AWLMI for almost two years, and it's always worked fine, at times it was a bit slow, so I upgraded the given ram (1gb) to 4gb (the accepted maximum). However, recently A new problem has developed.
Sometimes when I run a program (it can be anything from a full-screen high-spec video game to a tiny browser-based flash video) My computer becomes really slow, until I minimise it. I checked on task manager, and my CPU usage jumps up to 100% when the program or applictaion is open, and falls back to around the usual when I minimise it.
It's not a virus, there are no extra processes running, just the process that /are/ currently running (espescially the one that slows everything down) take up way more of the cpu uses than normal. My processor is an AMD Turion 64 Mobile technology MK-36 (2.0 ghz, 512 kb L2 cache).
High CPU Usage despite nothing showing on Task Manager or Process Explorer.
I was asked to have a look at a relatively new Acer Aspire 6530g laptop recently that was beginning to become almost unusably slow all of a sudden. The system (which comes with 4gb of ram) literally can no longer run a couple of simple applications at the same time. Displaying typical behaviour of high CPU usage, ie taking a long time to respond, typed sentences seeming to pause and then jump to the end, video noticably jerky accompanied by a crackling through the speakers.
The system had a fresh re-installation of Vista done, which seemed to solve the problem briefly, reappearing again after a week or so, and then upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 in an attempt to solve the problem, again the symptoms appeared to stop after the upgrade (or weren't as evident) and returned yet again after only another week or so.
First thing i did was check task manager for something slowing the system. I suspected perhaps some malware or a trojan on the system.
This is where it gets weird. Nothing. If for instance theres just 1 browser window playing a flash game, it slows to a crawl. CPU shows 75-95% usage, yet nothing is seemingly using it. To go a little deeper I installed sysinternals process explorer to see a little deeper into what might be causing it. Again, nothing. Showing overall High CPU usage, but nothing appeared to be using all of the CPU..................
I have a Y510p. After upgrading the touchpad driver ( Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for 64-bit Windows Version 17.0.10.12/11.4.26.1) and ,possibly coincidentally Windows 8.1 I noticed a process called "System" in the task manager is eating up 6 to 12 % CPU usage. Opening its file location seems to reveal that its "ntoskrnl" application.
After a system factory reset and many curse words I noticed a peculiar thing. The processor shows high usage only when the mouse is being used. The more the mouse is used the higher the CPU usage (caps at about 12%). I am assuming this is a bug.
I have removed the driver and tested this and the process no longer used the CPU by that amount. But I lose all my features. Is there any way I can resolve this issue without having to either wait for a newer version of the driver (whih may take a very long time?). Also is there any place where I can access the older variant of the driver?
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop. I just recently lost the capability to adjust the volume using the keyboard shortcut of Fn key with up or down arrow keys. I have uninstalled and installed the Realtek HD driver.
I got one of those usb to sata/ide cables to read an external sata drive on my acer. I followed the instructions for connecting a 2.5" sata drive. When I plugged the usb in there was a pop and now my laptop won't start and no lights are on. I've taken the hdd out and it works and is ok...
I have been trying to find out how to deactivate the two-finger tap right click function of my ELAN-touchpad (on my Aspire V3-571, Windows 8.1), as it frequently bothers me when writing. The touchpad is located so that part of my left hand rests on it when writing. When I then try to use it with my right hand I often zoom [now deactivated] or open the context menu. I also sometimes randomly jump to a different part of the text, continuing my writing there.
I found several tutorials explaining how to activate the two finger tap, but none of the given solutions worked for deactivating it again.
What I've tried:
1. Going to the ELAN-options and deactivating it under "multiple-finger gestures". The problem is that there is no field for two-finger tapping for me. I have "zooming", "scrolling", "turning", "Three-finger-Tap", and "swiping with tree fingers" [all translated from german, so they might not be exactly called that in english]. What more wonders me is that under "one finger gestures" there is the "tap" option. And beneath the tick-box to de/-activate it it says "One Finger: click/choose"; but it does not say "two fingers" for example.
2. Changing it via regedit I've found sites suggesting manually changing something in the registry. However the frequently given locations of the registry does not seem to apply to my machine, so I cannot find the keys I need to change.
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop which occasionally gives me the above message. When it does, I leave it alone for 3 or 4 days and when I turn it back on, it works again. I have already gone once to a technician, but when I got there, my laptop was working fine. I have noticed that if I demand to work with Mozilla Firefox or some complex video sites, it crashes How do I go about getting a boot disk?
My acer ASPIRE 5733z laptop is not showing DVD Drive in My Computer. I have tried with registry key settings, but no positive result. Even the Drive is not showing in Device Manager! I have windows 7 64 bit OS.
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop and I love it dearly. I just recently lost the capability to adjust the volume using the keyboard shortcut of Fn key with up or down arrow keys. I have uninstalled and installed the Realtek HD driver.
I know I have already asked this question, but I'm really concerned. I have a xps 16, and after it wakes up CPU stays above 80% for the entire time.
I just talked to a dell techie and they said it might be caused by a virus. What do you think? It's brand new and I have McAfee on all the time. (I ran fn+power on diagnose, everything's fine)
I recently purchased a Lenovo Y510p, and the touchpad uses the ELAN software. However, by default, it doesn't seem to allow you to use two fingers to tap for right click, nor three for middle click.
After digging into the matter, I discovered you can make some changes by installing Asus Elantech driver 11.5.0.9 to allow you to see many more options in the control panel, and I successfully changed Swapping and 3 and 4 finger touch functions.I am struggling to change the double finger tap.
i have a VAIO VGN FS520B,with 760Mb RAM and 80GB harddisk.I Just format my laptop and format the recovery disk as well.
i have download all the drivers for XP PRO and installed them after the XP installation. All went fine bt i cant get the VAIO CONTROL CENTER driver from sony website.I cant use the FN,S1 and S2 buttons.thus
i cant increase/decrease/mute volume,increase/decrease brightness and change external monitor.Actually the brighness is full and the battery drains quickly
I would like to install the catalys control center. I tried to just download the newest driver 9.8 that comes with it but it will always abort, saying there was no driver found that could be installed.
I have a Sony Vaio fw 490 CTo for a week and it's running window vista home premium 64x everything doing fine until i got freeze when playing game. I open taskbar manager and saw my physical memory is at 90% ......
After reading many reviews here, I finally ordered and received my Studio XPS with the RGBLED screen. I felt the reds were a little harsh so I made a few adjustments in Catalyst Control Center that seemed to help.
But I still wanted to make a few more adjustments...So before I got too deep I checked and saw there was an updated driver. So now I updated the driver and it seemed to install okay except now the Catalyst Control Center won't open.
I've scratched mine up a bit and wouldn't mind ordering a replacement, but I wanted to try successfully removing it first before contacting Dell. I've removed the three screws as outlined in the manual, but it won't budge. Is there a particular way of pushing it out, or maybe I need to be more forceful?
I wanted to update my ATI CCC driver. So I downloaded the latest ccc, uninstalled from from my laptop, restarted, installed latest ccc, restarted. Now when I start windows 7 the little icon doesnt show up in the system tray.
I have an ati mobility radeon 4200 on windows 7 x64.
Last week I bought a 22" LG W2261V external monitor for my dell m1330 with Nvidia 8400GS. After about 10-20 minutes of viewing a HD movie my CPU usage burst to 95-100 % and won't go down unless I unplug the external monitor. I checked this with another external monitor and the result is the same.
BTW of course I view HD movies all the time before I bought this external monitor without any problem.
I tried with vista 32-bit and windows 7 64-bit but no good.
When is boot up my Split sometimes but not always the Memory column in task manager shows 95%, and the pc runs really slowly. But i have nothing running.
The biggest use showing is Service Host: Local System.
My laptop is ideapad z510 and os is windows 8.1All action and gestures are working in elan touchpad except two finger pad (Right Click)I searched the forum and found that the synaptic driver can fix this problem, but when I want to install it tell me that this system does not have any synaptic touchpad!I test both lastest update from Lenovo and Microsoft for touchpad driver, but didn't solve this problem!
My laptop model is HP Envy 6 1178-sai just updated my graphic card (AMD 7670HD series to driver 13.251.0.0) and now the Catalyst Control Centre application is not opening at all, not even an error sign pops upwhat should i do?
i have downloaded Catalyst Control Center several times but it is still not working. I have Paviliion dv6-6120se, AMD radeon hd 6490M and built-in intel GPU hd 3000 both GPUs is working fine but the problem started when i uninstalled the Catalyst Control Center in order to get a new updated one from AMD website. But the AMD site said my version of radeon hd 6490M is not supported anyway i have tried everything i uninstalled the ATI GPU driver and install it again. Somehow I downloaded Catalyst Control Center the and the installation finished and the same problem it is still not working. Now i lost the Catalyst Control Center and the switchable graphics config.
My laptop is dell inspirion 5520 with core i5, 8GB memory and amd radeon HD 7670M. When i bought adm radeon switchable graphic works ok. Yesterday, I update the graphic driver. version is 8.933.3.4 from dell website.
Previous version is 8.933.3.0.
After updating, catalyst control center can't load. So, I roll back previous driver version but the catalyst control center can't load.
i play facebook flash games like restaurant city, pet society..etc in battery mode, cpu usage will be around 70% and the games very lag, this problem occurs in both balanced & power saving battery mode ...
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z590 with windows 7 32 bit professional installed. When I switch to speed mode and hook up a monitor (24" dell LCD) via HDMI->DVI the graphics card temperature goes up to around 80-95C (measured with real temp 3.40) and the CPU temp also goes up into the 60-70s. No programs are using the CPU heavily. During this process the fans go up to max and the computer gets really loud. I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS.
I was wondering if anyone else has a problem like this? Would installing 64 bit windows 7 be better? It makes it really noisy when I hook up a monitor via HDMI. Any ideas?
Everything is perfect in stamina mode, low temps, low cpu usage.
