I'm reformatting my HD and it gets stuck on 31 of 32 in the cleanup stage. I had this happen last time I did a reformat but I forgot how I fixed it. I have an Aspire 5742 using Windows 7.
View 5 RepliesMy Acer 5742-7653 is stuck in reboot loop. It starts to load Windows 7, and then the screen goes black, and it beeps a bit, and theen starts over again. The F2 button no longer gets me into Setup. And the F12 doesn't work. I can't get into SafeMode or Setup. When the problem first began, I could sometimes get into Setup and boot from an external HD which as a diskImage.
I used to be able to remove battery, and remove HDD and RAM, and then it would boot up from the external HD. To get through a busy period at work we set the power option so the computer would never shut off. But this is creating problems with all the Firefox, Adobe and Windows updates that want to run.
This is running on Windows 7, 64bit.
How can I determine if this is a problem with the HDD, or the RAM? or Motherboard? What else could it be?
Acer aspire 5742. Installed new hdd. I bought recovery disk. Inserted recovery disk selected top option, inserted dsk1 when asked then dsk 2 when asked. dsk did not run error bootmgr missing ctrt/alt del to restart. Does nothing same error comes up. removed dsk tried again same thing. removed dsk shut down inserted recovery dsk to try to start over. same error.

Booted with recovery disk. 1st screen US english next. second screen no OS in box. tried restore with image you have created earlier. could not find image. tried other recovery tool, Recovery Management. will not let me click on completely restore system to factory defaults. If I go back and click install drivers the disk has many applications and drivers. Put the old HDD back in and booted from disk. It allowed me to click on restore to default but when finished and restarted nothing. restarted wit f2 and with old drive in shows no HDD
View 6 Replies View RelatedCame to a point when I should completely restore the OS on my Acer Aspire 4752. Neither through Alt+F10 nor through eRecovery am I able to get around a Notice with the following "please complete operating system setup process before doing system recovery". There is only one option of this notice, that is to ok it and then the current Windows 7 Home Premium OS starts and I am not able to get out of this viscous circle. The OS works and is completely set up, so I do not understand what am I prompted to do. I see a number of postings out there, but no solution. Local Acer does not seem to know anything about the problem nor it's existence.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to do a recovery of my Pavilion g6, I will have to do this from the recovery disk (D) on my laptop since I don't have it on a seperate disk or DVD.
My questions are:
- Will I have the original storage on my harddisk (my notebook has a problem since refreshing it, after the automatic recovey I lost about 40 gig storage and now it's more than 50 gigs after 4 weeks of having this problem)
- How to backup my files during the recovery process, will my computer store it on the pc or will I have to back them up to a disk or pendrive?
- These problems started after someone else used my computer. Could it be a virus infection?
My option is to go to ask the seller to do it for me, but if there is a way I can do this myself that will save me money.

I have an Aspre 5742 which is a couple of years old now. It is running Windows 7. I have been trying to output the display to my TV but it is not working.
When using the HDMI connector there is no output whatsoever. I have followed the suggestions on the Acer website about detecting connected monitors but this does not detect my TV ...
When using the VGA output the deTect function detects the presence of the TV but the TV does not detect the computer.
I have connected another computer to the same TV using the same cables (HDMI and VGA) and everything works just fine.
I have updated the video drivers on the Acer but there is no change.
A few months ago we had to change the hard disk as the original packed in. I put in the same model disc as I took out and reloaded tyhe software from the rescue disc. Prior to this the HDMI worked perfectly.

Microsoft checked and said my OEM product key is fine. Restoring to a previous point failed to fix problem. I just ordered the eRecovery DVD. Is there a way to fix this without wiping the system and starting over? I have a LOT of software installed that I will hate to lose. BTW - my best guess is that malware caused this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using this small utility for caps lock on a 5742 using W7 Pro and it works well. The 5742 doesn't have a caps lock light or indicator built into from Acer, so one have to come up with something.
This program will place a red "x" or green "check" in the taskbar letting you know if you're in caps lock and will also produce a small "beep" after a few letters typed in if in caps lock.

I own an Acer Aspire 5742, model no. PEW71. It is running on Windows 7. I included a vid for you to see what the problem is: [URL] ....
So, as you can see, the computer can be turned on, but it doesn't get through the acer screen on to the windows picture, and it automatically reboots and shuts itself down again over and over again. This has happened in the past, but the repairers have reset the operating system and BIOS. They also switched the hard disk for a new one, but this could be because of some other problems I was having (USB channels weren't working).
Everything worked fine for a month or so, and then it happened again. I myself am thinking about the motherboard being damaged.When this happened in the past however, I was still able to turn on my PC sometimes, so I was also able to save my files. Now on the other hand, I can't get the computer on anymore. The most important thing to me is saving the files. After that, I'll take it away for reparation again, where they will probably delete everything again (I can't commicate with the repairers myself, so I can't discuss terms or anything).
At the end of the vid you can see me turning off the computer by pulling out the adapter. Removing both the adapter and accu is the only way the computer can be turned off. Even shutting it down by pushing the on/off button for 5 seconds will not prevent the auto re-boot.
At some point during the day, the sound on my Acer Aspire 5742 (running on Windows 7) ceased to function. There is no sound on any internet browser, and the normal notification audio is also not playing. I have checked the mixer and everything is fine. I have checked the speaker properties, which says that the Realtek Audio speakers are enabled and working properly. However, when I try to test the speakers a message says 'Failed to play test tone'. The weird thing is that Spotify is playing totally normally. I have tried shutting down Spotify and restarting it. I have tried turning my computer off and on again.

I am using the Acer eRecovery discs (Windows 7 64 bit) on my Aspire V3-571. On multiple attempts at a recovery the process hangs at Step 41 of 60 when trying to load the OOBE (Out Of Box Experience) file. A second set of discs provided by Acer produces the same results. I have an extra 1TB WD SATA HD that I have swapped into the laptop for troubleshooting purposes. No joy there. The recovery process appears to run normally until it stalls at Step 41. It has hung at that point for an hour with nothing happening.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mum (bless her heart) has managed to get a cd stuck in the optical drive of her Acer Aspire 7520 laptop. The drawer opens but unfortunately the CD remains inside, as far as I can see it's jammed above the metal casing.
I've search everywhere for instructions for removing the drive as I'm pretty certain that this would solve it but alas no luck ..... which is where you guys come in.
I have an ACER Aspire 5500 which I think someone must have spilt some substance on the keyboard. I have cleaned the motherboard and components and have been able to get it to work again. However the following occurs:-
When booting up when the ACER screen apears the laptop starts BEEPing continuously. If I bash the keys around the arrows and Right Shift and END key section it stops beeping then proceeds to start windows. Everything works OK except whenever I try to open files I noticed the last file is always highlited. When I try to open other files it always opens the last highlited file. I noticed when I opened Microsoft word that on the bottom right hand corner the word END was constantly flashing as if the key was being held down.
I removed the keyboard and left an external keyboard plugged in but the same problem still occured.

View 4 Replies View Relatedive just finished setting up my new acer ES1-512, And was about to make my recovery media through the acer console in windows 8.1, and the program will not open ? i get to the part where it wants me to allow the program to make changes, but then nothing happens ? i have tried going to the file location its self to to start the program but this makes no difference, ive looked all over acers site to see if i can re-download the console but have found nothing?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have an acer aspire 1642nlci laptop for about over 2 years now... recently the battery (simplo 4-cell) went nuts, and i disassembled it to see if i could do something about it ( the issue was, whenever i'd boot up my operating system i.e XP, the system would stuck, until i remove and then replug the battery in to the laptop)... well i did no repairing, just put the cells out and then back to the casing, inserted the battery into the lappy, and the issue went all by itself... however, 2,3 days later, the battery stopped charging and agonized by the situation already, and while i had my battery(without the casing) inserted into the laptop, i shorted the i/o pins of the battery to each others with a metal... and then the real issue began... my laptop is cursed, it won't start anymore past the initial 'acer' screen... sometimes the lcd won't light up even... pressing f2 helps nothing, keyboard doesn't work... and if you let it stay on for a while, the power indicator leds *both the supply and battery status ones* start to go dim and dimmer... i think i have fried the mother board's power supply area...

My touch pad wouldn't scroll or respond to any finger gestures, so I tried installing the ELANTECH and Synaptics touch pad drivers from the acer support site for my laptop. However, after I restarted the computer I keep getting stuck at the screen right before where you put in your password (the lock screen?). The only keys that seem to do anything are the function keys.
