I have an Aspire 8940G I bought almost 5 years ago. I got it with an Optiarc BD-ROM BC-5500S. It worked fine for years but for the last 6 months, it won't play Bluray disks. It doesn't even seem to recognize that there is a disk in the drive if it is a bluray.
Â
I have tried everything that I could find recommended to do but to no avail. It just makes that ba-DUM sound 3 times when I put a bluray disk in and then nothing.
Â
I'm running windows 7 64-bit that I installed as soon as I got the machine. No major changes recently. I've tried MS Fixit, updating driver from sony (doesn't actually work, fails every time and I then have to reboot to get power back to the drive).
Â
I'm thinking that the mechanism that works the laser for the bluray just stopped working and therefore it is not able to read bluray disks anymore.
Â
My question then is can I get any another Optiarc BC-5500S and istall that? Or does it have to be one specifically made for an Aspire 8940G? Maybe I can got one for a Vaio or HP and then change the bezel to fit my aspire 8940G?
We got our laptop April of 2012 and started using it daily in August of the same year. As soon as we started using it the random BSOD started popping up then the computer shuts down. Upon startup after BSOD the computer seems perfectly fine except for a message that pops up saying two things didn't load (I'm not sure of those right this second but can post them in a few hours) and I'm not even sure if that's related to anything because it mentions something about Apple..
Anyways. Yesterday I started running diagnostic tests as recommended in another post on this forum, everything passed. After that I decided to run the tests given on the symptom tree and it's almost done with a majority of those that I noticed were issues. Everything is passing so far, even the Windows Blue Screen test (I think it's called).
We have two different forms of virus protection so I don't think it's that but then again I'm not a computer wiz. We also noticed the touch screen has started being erratic - while you're doing something the cursor/mouse will randomly move to the right side of the screen without moving. I hope this all makes sense. We're still under warranty so we can send it in but I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything we couldn't fix easily.
I've been running on a T520 4239-CTO for a little over a year now without issue. I've been getting lots of random bsod and services crashing in the last few days; even Windows 7 cannot validate itself anymore.
Â
I ran all the hardware checks in the provided Lenovo utilities and it all seems to pass. I didn't trust this so I manually checked the smart values on the hard disk and noticed around 2400+ reallocated sectors so I decided to replace the hard disk.
Â
It should be noted that there are no viruses/malware on this machine. After receiving the new hard disk I did a factory restore using the dvd backups I made when I received the machine. Upon booting the new factory install on the new disk I'm still getting the same random bsod and issues with Windows 7 not being able to validate.
Â
I notice that everytime I boot now on the newly restored os that the "Microsoft Software Protection Platform" service has issues and cannot start. I started doing some updates using the Thinkvantage tools and they're crashing too.
Â
This machine is currently on pass 4 of memtest without any errors so far.
Â
I've replaced the hard drive and from the looks of things so far the ram seems fine. Where do I go from here?
I bought Aspire 5738 in Nov 2009 and I m running Win 7 over it since then .
Till a few days back i had no issues with it and it was working well ,but recently it has started rebooting after 3-6 hours all of a sudden while working or even if nothing is being done (only downloading is going on).
I read in this forum that it may be due to overheating (which may be the reason after all as now summer has started), but in order to check that I kept my laptop on the floor which is relatively cool and gives a proper vent to the heat emanating from the laptop but still I can see that it rebooted (which leads me to believe that it may not be due to overheating ).
I have run the AVG full comp scan and no virus is reported , and I did not install any new software except the usual AVG updates.
Even though this laptop is in warranty and I read that it may be a hardware issue ,I am wary of giving it to Acer guys as then I will have to stay without my laptop for many days (repairing time can be long here).
I have an Acer 8920G Win 7 Pro which is randomly shutting down only in when connected to 'AC' power. It does not happen when using 'battery' alone or in 'safe mode'. I've tried, investigated, and corrected all overheating issues, cleaned fans, changed AC power supplies, disabled graphics card, to no avail. All drivers are up to date. This has been happening over a period of 3 months now. Can not use the laptop except when battery is charged or in safe mode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to order an 8940G in the next week or two with an extra 640GB Western Digital Hard Drive. From one of the reviews I've read the 8940G needs an additional retention bracket to mount a second hard drive. Does anyone know where I can order this? I tried contacting Acer, but they won't reply to me without a serial number...which I won't have until I actually order the laptop
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought the Acer Aspire v3-771G. I've had no problems with it, but lately it shuts down randomly without any warning, like a power cut. I've checked the CPU Temps and overheating is not the problem. The computer sits on a Targus cooling pad and it doesn't get that hot around the fans. The problem occur when the pc is running games or processes (computer scans) that require more memory than when I'm just surfing. The problem happens all from 15 mins to 2 hours into a game or so (depends on how much memory that's used). I've been doing some research myself and it seems like a graphic problem.
Â
The computer always fits the minimum requirements for games I play and I play on rather low graphics on every game (to delay the shutdown).
Â
The second problem is whenever I'm streaming or watching a movie the screen randomly turns into a "snow storm". Tried to move the screen up and down thinking it was something wrong with the cable from the hardware to screen but it didn't react to that. What has made this to happen due to the careful handling of the computer. But the only thing that comes to mind is something wrong with that cable... This problem happens randomly and started last week.
Â
I've done some basic problem solving, with no success. I've tried restoring the computer to facotry setup, updating the bios and all the relevant drivers.Â
Â
I've been looking for a hardware diagnostic program on the computer itself (like other good brands have) with no luck, even looked on the web. But nothing I've tried seems to find the problem.Â
Â
The specs for the computer:
Â
Acer Aspire v3-771G
Windows 8.1 (Came with Windows 8.0)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz  2.40
8.00 GB (RAM)
64-bit operating system
Nvidia GeForce GT 630M
I bought my Acer Aspire E1-570G in february , and since then im having random blue screens with different codes . Im trying everything to fix this problem almost everyday, and believe me soon i will break it on 2 pieces . Nothing is fixing the problem ... I have bsod files that i can post for u to see them but i dont think they really matter because i get RANDOM bsods. Every time is different ( there are around 10 different codes given that i remember ). If its really needed i can post the codes.
I have sent the laptop to the main service in my country and they said that the laptop " passed the tests" . After coming home and turning my pc on .. BSOD . The laptop went to the service again - This time they changed my HDD . It didnt fix the problem . I cant change my laptop with the warranty because the service says that the laptop is okay .
I have an Acer Aspire V3-572PG (about 4 months old), and the machine shuts down randomly when on battery power. It's happened when moving it from one place to another, or with subtle shifts on my lap, and sometimes just typing triggers a shutdown. However, it doesn't happen when plugged in. Battery has been fully charged; it's not overheating; it's not the fan; it's not dust; and I've run comprehensive anti-virus scans.
Â
In the past, it's taken anywhere from an hour or two before it shuts down. Last night it happened simply when I unplugged the thing from the wall ... so, no moving/no touching of the computer, but shutdown when removing plug from wall!!???
I have an Acer Aspire E1 model Q5WPH, runnng Windows 8. All has been well until this week when the screen began flashing random colours.
Â
I powered the machine off and from then on it refuses to boot back up. Power appears to be getting through as it starts up the DVD drive but then the power light goes off - then back on and the process continues until I power the machine off again.
I have an Aser Aspire 5610 - 2328. The model is 5610z. I have the same issue with my webcam and it is orbicam with logitech software. I also here the unplugging sound and also get BSOD's. My laptop is under warranty and it has been sent in to be checked. They could not find any issues also when I click the orbicam icon first try it shows it disconnected. I try again it works. They still claim its working and nothing they can do they have also seen what it doese when clicking on the icon and still claim its working.
Not sure if they really checked the connections I will look into it. It is under warranty thru Wal-Mart and was sent to a place called Cyber Test in Longwood Florida.
I've been getting the BSOD error on my PC. The main ewrror is 0x000000f4 but I sometimes get the 77 error as well. Most times i need to reboot and then I get the 200 fixed hard disk 0 failed error . If I click F! i get yet another error, PXE.61 error and this takes my rebooting quite a few times in order to get windows xp (media center edition) to come uo it stays on for a while (the length of time is getting shorter and shoryer these days) and then I have to go through the entire scenario over again. I'm trying to remove the files and programs that I actually care about off this comp. I contacted Acer tech support and was told that it most likely a HArd drive problem and that it would need to be replaced They had the wrong warranty ending date for me and after providing proof of purchase, they changed it to 11/23/07. Now that I have about 8 days left on my warranty. the tech support person told me to purchase the extended warranty because if I ship it to them and the warranty expires, I will have to pay for the service. Now my question is this. I'm not too sure that it would be worth shipping it to them for repairs I will have to pay $99 for the warranty plus tax and At least $100 to ship it back to them. On top of that I have read horror stories about people who sent their comps in to be repaired and it being returned to them with scratches on the LCD, initial problems not repaird or additional problems after the comp was returned to them. I'd much rather carry it in to a shop but was told their are no local repair shops in my city except for geek squad and they will charge me since I didn't purchase my comp from them. WHat would you do take it to a local repair shop or pay the bugcks to extend the warranty and then pay to have it shipped to be repaired? Another reason why I am leery is because I bought a HP laptop last year. the Ac adapter jack ont he comp was loose so I shipped it to HP to have it repaired. they had my comp for almost a month and then told me the motherboard, keyboard, speakers, and LCD display was unsalvageable and that it would cost me over $1000 to have it replaced(i only paid $369 for it on black Friday). They also told me that I had a liquid spill which was a total lie as I keep my laptop in my bedroom and I never eat or drink in my bedroom.( come to find out that loose jacks are a known problem with some Hp laptops I have read horror storeies about Acer using the dreaded liquid spill excuse too and I don't want to go through the drama again. Are the BSOD errors definitely the fault of a faulty hard drive?
View 7 Replies View RelatedHas anyone experienced a problem with Acer notebooks where when the user presses any key on the keyboard, the touchpad gets disabled? The 8940G we are reviewing has this problem and I have never seen this happen before. When the touchpad stops functioning the little Synaptics status thing on the taskbar still shows the sensitivity blob when you finger presses the touchpad. This tells me it is still working but something else is interfering.
I have looked around the Synaptics menu for anything relating to this feature and found nothing. I disabled the "hide cursor when typing" feature in Windows already and that didnt fix it.
Ive had this Acer laptop E1-510p with window 8.1 and all of the sudden some of the keys accross the keyboard stop working. These keys are random and even when i plug in a generic keyboard it does the same thing ....

How can I access the BIOS on the ACER 4755g?
Â
I have tried mashing f2 a million times, but no luck. f12, f8, ...none of these get me into the BIOS.
Â
What key combo will get me into the BIOS?
Â
I have BSOD and cant access Windows via Safe Mode, but only the command prompt from Windows Repair.
Â
The BSOD is a 7b meaning some disk issue...tried all troubleshooting like unplugging all peripherals, removing RAM 1 board at a time, swapping RAM position....etc.
Attempted a system restore but restore did not initialize and went into a loop. After a long delay itwent to a BSoD and a continuous loop saying it would restart the computer. It didn't. Can't shut down to do a restart.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a random ( to me atleast) with my Acer Aspire 5020. Sometimes it just randomly freezes, and not inside windows or bluescreen or anything like that, the screen goes black or turns off and the whole computer freezes with all the lights on for the power, the battery, the poweradapter if in and also the statusindicator light.
First time it happened out of the blue for like 3 weeks ago, and it scared me, manly becasue i though I would everything on it. After that it happens more often, more randomly, sometimes nothing for a few days, and then a couple of times a day.
When it freezes, i can't even reboot the the only way then is to unplug it and also remove the battery to be able to restart.
At first i though it was something with the power or something like that, so i tried just with the battery on, and it happened again. Then the reverse, took out the battery and power only with the adapter and it happened again. So i don't know whats wrong with it.
The weird thing is that sometimes when it freezes, if i randomly touch or pres on certain parts of the computer, it shuts of or reboots it self, which makes me wonder if it might be a hardware problem. Maybe something is glitching or what ever.
Also i though that it might have something to do with heating, but since sometimes it happens just minutes after I turn on the computer, i have somehow ruled that one out.
My HDD random freeze once in awhile, sometimes for 30second, sometimes even worst, more then 5minute, i wonder why? i already install the latest Intel® Matrix Storage Manager, but the problem seems won't out from my laptop. Is it my HDD problem? any 6920G's user facing the same problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Timeline 4810TZ comes with SU4100 1.3Ghz, 3GB DDR3 RAM, Samsung 400GB HDD. I installed Win 7 32 bit. I'm getting random freeze during normal usage such as browsing, file copying etc. I have tried running Prime95(3 tests), OCCT and Linpack, Memtest86+(DOS) and Windows memory diagnostics. No problem were detected. I reinstalled OS with Win 7 64 bit and still facing the same problem. Occasionaly there will be BSODs. I have installed the latest BIOS with all the latest drivers available.
Is there compatibility problem with Win 7 OS or there is hardware problem with my Timeline?
im getting a bsod or it dosent boot when there is 4 gb ram but it works fine on 2 or 2.5 gb.

I have an Acer 3100 laptop and I've been trying to install windows on it for the past few days. The problem is after Windows formats the drive and copies the files, i'll get the BSOD after it restarts. I've tried using a different hdd and ram. I've tried installing Windows XP and Vista. I tried loading an image of a fully loaded windows but that didn't work. I ran ram and hdd testes but no problems show up. I'm really out of ideas now. I also updated the BIOS but that didn't help.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Acer Aspire 5315 and was running Bios v1.33. It has been running warm for sometime and thought an updated BIOS would help.
I tried the ACER site but didn't see any BIOS updates listed for XP. I have XP Pro on it now.
I followed a different link and found BIOS 1.45 so i Flashed it using WinFlash.
After it completed it shut down, i waited a couple of min. and powered back up, when i did i saw the BSOD for about 2 seconds and then goes to selective startup (Normal, Safe, Safe w/networking etc...)
I have not tried safe mode yet but in normal it just goes back to that screen again.
I saw the thread on using the FN+ESC mode but not sure if i really need to do that.
what I should do to restore it back to 1.33? I have to check my external HD but i think i still have that 1.33 version saved that i used when i did it the first time.
Having some very strange Win7 RC install problems on my Timeline 3810T.
First - If the SATA was in AHCI mode in the BIOS, I would get a BSOD every time the partitioning was complete and copying files begun. When this was switched to IDE mode, installation went off without a hitch. This is with the machine's stock 320GB hard drive.
Second - I've received a Corsair P256 SSD drive, based on a new "very compatible" Samsung controller. After installing this SSD, the BSOD occurs no matter which mode I'm in (IDE or AHCI). I cannot seem to find a way around this. I've tried loading all different version of AHCI drivers from Intel for the ICH9M-E, but no go.
I'd really like to unleash this SSD
I have an Acer Aspire 5672WLMi laptop and it has a built-in OrbiCam, every once in a while I hear a sound as if I was plugging/unplugging an USB device, sometimes it does that twice and then stops but there's times, like a few mins ago, that it goes crazy and I get a Blue Screen.
The message I get is "File lv321.sys has caused an error. Page fault in non paged area" and makes me restart.
After I do that, Microsoft Error Reporting tells me that I should update the drivers although I already did that or to unplug the camera, which is impossible since it's built in.
I have searched on Google but couldn't find much information except perhaps the wires that connect the camera might be loose/damaged and that's what causing it.
I have disabled it on the Device manager but it won't solve anything.
Is there a way to completely disable the camera port?
What can I do to fix it?
The laptop is almost 2 years old and is not under warranty.
