Apple :: Importing Video From A Sony Handycam

May 17, 2009

I've had the camera in the closet for a while but took it to the track to get some video of the kids racing their quads. Last week I couldn't get the MBP to even recognize that something was plugged into it. After a little research I found out I needed to use FireWire and had to buy a 400 to 800 cable. Well I got the cable and tried again today with no change in status. I rechecked the settings in the camera, double checked the plugs but no luck. Any ideas short of throwing the camera away?

On a side note I can't even get the Sony software to install even though it is Mac compatible. I guess its made for an older OSX version or something.

Apple :: RCA To USB Video Work

Sep 7, 2009

I found my old HI8 Video camera a while back & just found an Adpator at FRY's the will charge my old out dated batteries.

So I figure its time to start shooting some video again with it. on HI8.

But wonder what might be involved with pluging in my older video cameras RCA cables into my Mac & making it all download to my I-Movie or whatever I have to do?

Do I just plug it in with an adaptor & go? Or do I need some sort of program?

Apple :: MBP 2007 No Video

May 16, 2010

Yesterday, everything was running smoothly. My MBP was churning away running Fusion with an instance of XP, nothing too major. Today though, the video is out completely. I can't even get to the option menu on bootup to get it to switch to a Boot Camped Windows 7 (the boot up screen doesn't even show). So... what do I do now? The warranty is out. Am I out of luck? Any tricks I can try? I do plan on taking it to the nearby Apple store to see what they can do. I vaguely remember hearing something about the NVidia chips burning out, but the thing is I wasn't doing anything graphics intensive to begin with.

I even thought I might have dimmed the screen all the way, but using the keyboard to brighten it up didn't solve it. It wouldn't work anyway since even the boot screen doesn't show anything (not even the grey screen).

Apple :: 9600m GT Video?

Nov 16, 2009

I am ready to purchase a new MBP that I will use all day long with hotcomm voice and picture chat, email, powerpoint, word, excel, browsing, and a professional stock trading application called realtick that will run through vm ware or parallels and skype. This will not be my only computer but it is the one I would like to use the most. I am sensitive to heat problems and am considering the 2.4 processor because I have it in my head that it may run cooler. I recently used a thinkpad, (i know not a direct comparison), with a t9300 and dedicated video and it was so hot it could______ fill in blanks... Ultimately the heat is what killed the motherboard so I would like to stay as cool as reasonable.

I am considering the refurbished 2.4 15" with the nvida 9600m GT and 9400m GPU's because I like the price. I also think I can get some value from the dedicated video on my stock charts, (but am really not sure). I do not want to outsmart myself and get the wrong thing. Would someone here with some experience maybe give me an opinion if I should be looking at the 2.53 15" without the switchable video. The heat is one issue, but the other is my realtick charting software that will have to run under windows xp that I am concerned about with regard to needing the stronger GPU.

Apple :: Why Can I Not Play HD Video

Jul 1, 2009

This is the bane of my existence.
System 1: HP DV4
AMD Turion 2.1GHz proc
4GB DDR2 Ram
WD Scorp BLue 250GB HDD
A really good dedicated Graphics card, could play Civ 4 at fairly high settings, 1280x800 no problems.

Now I tried to play the ESiR rip of Saving Private Ryan, no juice.
I tried it in Win 7, nothing, I installed Win 7 RC1, still couldn't do it.
I'm talking a new installation, no software, just VLC.

NOW, the funny thing is my friend, on his Black Macbook (2.4GHz, 4GB ram, bad Intel Int GFX) can play blueray rips PERFECTLY, while doing a million other things.

SO I buy his laptop because he upgraded, install a fresh copy of OSX, and guess what? It still dosen't play (although the hardware is 1000x better than HP's) I don't understand why VLC uses ALL of my CPU, and when I close EVERYTHING, and restart finder 8 times because I can't close it, the thing still stutters. I can watch stuff, but it will freeze on a frame and stutter.

It's not just private ryan, I have Terminator 2, 3, 1, and a lot of other movies.

I've tried quicktime, Realplayer, Nice Player, VLC, WMP, ect.

My friend says it might be the MKV file container, because when he was playing them on his brand new uMBP, they went fine, but he couldn't skip through the video without it glitching (pause and unpause to shake off the 'blocks'). I've never really been able to skip through a video without it hanging or getting the 'blocks'. Even a 10mb AVI sometimes gives me issues. He said it was a bad rip because he couldn't freely 'scroll' through the video.

Could this be some hardware issue?
720P AVIs do seem fine, but everyone puts their stuff into MKV. I thought MKV was better than AVI.

If I convert these into H.264 or something, will that solve the problem?

Apple :: IPad And Flash Video.

Apr 16, 2010

my family are looking to chip in together to get my mom an e-reader for her birthday. Then we thought we'd look at the iPad. It's twice the cost, but it seems to do so much more. However, if we're gonna spend the money, I know she'd like to be able to watch Hulu shows and YouTube stuff.

In another post here someone mentioned that the iPad WILL play flash, although the Apple rep I talked to said it will not. If you have to do anything special or jump through hoops to make it work, then I'm not interested, but what is the case then and how do you make it work if at all?

Apple :: MBP No Detected Video Card In Photoshop CS4

I have tried re-installing Photoshop, trashing preference files etc. But the problem still exists. I can't find anything on the web about the 9600M GT or the 9400M not being recognised by Phothop CS4, so what could be causing this?

Apple :: MacBook Pro Looks Like It Lost The Video Card

Mar 21, 2010

Daughter told me that her MacBook Pro looks like it lost the video card again. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro and got her homework files off of it. I'm going to bring it into the Apple Store this morning where they will most likely replace the motherboard but it will be down for a week. The system is a few months shy of three years old so the extended warranty should cover it.

My question is do current MBPs still have the video card problem? This is the second MB replacement for this computer so I expect the replacement motherboard to last about 1.5 years. I would probably want to buy a replacement before then so that she doesn't lose her system during school. I think that we have enough in the way of spares so that she can get by - I'm probably going to give her my Dell XPS M1330 for the week but I'd like a long-term solution. I don't think that I will give her my MBP as she games and I don't want to lose my system.

Apple :: Macbook Pro Processor Speeds For Video Editing

Dec 21, 2009

I'm looking to get a new Macbook Pro for Christmas and I am pretty decided on everything but processing speed. I will be using my laptop for web design (Adobe Creative Suite CS4-sometimes multiple programs at same time), video editing (Adobe Premiere CS4, Final Cut Pro) and possibly sometime in the next 3-4 years, animation (Maya). I have two 2 TB hard drives and I'd be editing with video footage on them most of the time. Not playing any games. I'm pretty decided on getting a 15" (have one now and like the size for traveling+editing), 320 GB 7200rpm hard drive and 8 GB memory. However I have no idea what processor speed would be best for me between 2.56, 2.66 and 2.8.

What processor do you think would be best for me? Is there a big difference between the three making the higher ones worth the money? Is there anything in my current setup that I should change for optimal results?

Also, you can get a spare battery and use it as a second battery right? I'll be traveling a lot (like round the world) so extra battery time will be needed.

Apple :: Video Artifacts In Unibody After Nvidia Update 10.5.7

May 13, 2009

I updated to 10.5.7 and it runs quite well however I noticed a flaw of video flashing and I wanted to confirm this with others. In Stacks I use the Applications folder in list view. I have a long list of applications so I always have to scroll to go through all of them. When I use two finger scrolling to zip through them I see flashes of video artifacts while two finger scrolling. This only happens when you have enough apps in list view to require scrolling to see them all. For example, with no windows open I click the Applications folder and begin rapidly two finger scrolling through list view and I can see artifacts of the desktop flashing within the list view box. Anyone else notice this after the update? I have already reformatted and installed nothing but my basic apps and still see this.

Apple mentioned that they updated the Nvidia drivers for the unibody Macs. I have a Macbook Air.
