I just installed my 4 gb of RAM in my Inspiron 9400, fully aware and knowing in advance that I won't be able to use more than 3.25 of it with my Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS...
My question is: WHY? Is it because the Bios can't address the memory in 64-bit? Just for curiosity, is there a way to make the OS bypass the BIOS (If it's the cause) and fully use the 4 GB?
I have a e1705 Geforce go 7900gs oc'd to 450/600. Also I have the power supply that is included with the laptop 90watts. I have seen people here in forums that o'cd there card up to 600 core or more. I flashed my rom using the 375/507 to unlock my bios and then i use rivatuner to overclock my video card coz I want to know the limit of my card. And it reached 455/600 so i underclock it to 450 just for safe distance.
Now, I am using ntune to o'c my card and there is no testing whether it will work with the core I specified so I assume again that its 450/600.
My questions will be,
1. What is the max core/mem overclock that is safe for my 90 watts power supply w/o increasing the voltage to 1.24volts?
2. I create a profile in ntune that I enable the overclock (450/600) everytime I will play 3d games and I get it back (370/507) . Is that ok? Will it harm my videocard?
I got a rev 1 card. I am using a windows vista w/ dell performance driver, 2gb ram and 1.73ghz core duo cpu. Weird I got 152 increase in score in 2005 3dmark when using vista to xp . My score is 7196. And also I don't want to use nibitor to o'cd my card .
I have a Studio 1558 laptop with 4GB of RAM, which not too much, So I want now it to upgrade.
My question is that, what is the maximum limit of RAM supported by may Studio 1558 laptop?
If possible then I would like to upgrade with 16 or 8 GB.
Just wondering to all those with an Ispiron 9300 what is the maximum supported hard drive size. According to dell chat it is 100Gb...but of course that doesn't mean anything. I have the 9300 with an SATA drive .

SZ are perfect for my DJ work, and secondary notebook, I was using the SZ1 till now and wanted to get the best there is from this series, possibly fastest CPU but no 8xxx Nvidia. It came with single 1G RAM, I could put another 1G from my old SZ but would rather have 3G total= add single 2G chip. I remember that SZ1 had 2G RAM limit but cannot find out about the SZ38GP C. Will I be able to use 3G with it ?

I've read abit about the 137 GB limit and wanted to know if the motherboard/BIOS for this model supports 48 bit LBA so that i can see the remaining space on the hard drive. I have windows XP pro service pack II installed, but i don't know how to activate 48 bit addressing or if my BIOS suppoerts it.

However I've done a bit more research and I'm starting to fear my notebook may be limited to 3gb by the bios/chipset for some reason. I have just upgraded it from 3gb to 4gb. The bios shows 4gb as the installed amount but memtest in dos mode only shows 3000mb total as does windows task manager.
So it appears the notebook detects the 4gb installed ram but only allocated 3gb.
My question is does anyone know if acer has limited this notebook to 3gb total and if there are any suggestions on getting around this limit?

my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen i first got my dell inspiron and it was all good. when i set the monitor to shut off after 1 minute of being idle, it did and would not turn on unless someone moved the mouse of pressed a button. however, after i reformatted, the computer monitor would shut off after 1 min but soon afterwards it turns on again by itself, then it goes off again, then it remains on permanently. i recently formatted my laptop again and this problem persists. anyone knows whats sup? im using xp ftw... and my configurations are the same as it was before the reformats so idk whats wrong.

View 9 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron 6000 notebook to boot up and stay unfrozen long enough for me to retrieve my files, and put them on my tower pc.
In a nutshell, I got this Inspiron about 3 years ago- I currently have it connected to an external monitor, because my wife dropped a heavy object on the screen last year, and destroyed said screen.
Just this past week, I turned it on, and it started getting really slow. Finally, it got to a point where now, when I turn it on, it boots up, it goes to the desktop, the desktop icons all appear, and within a minute or two, it just kind of slows down, and eventually freezes up, and the hard drive indicator light quits doing anything. It does not respond to anything, and the only way to restart it, is to hold the power button down until it resets.
If anybody knows of a thread already on this site, regarding this problem, please point me in the right direction, as I tried the search function, and did not come up with anything.
and one or two other things, since it initially started having problems, sometimes, I will get two "missing module" error boxes pop up- and also, while it is booting, the screen flashes black for about 3 seconds, and then comes back on and continues to load.
Thank you very much to anybody who could possibly help me out of this jam. I really do not plan on using this laptop (or notebook) anymore, if and hopefully when, I get my files off of it.
And that is the other problem, I can not attempt to boot up in safe mode, as my screen is busted up, and it will not output to my external monitor, when I hit the f key while it is starting. I did make a couple different bootable cds, but they do not seem to do anything.
I enjoy gaming, although I wouldn't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer. I currently have 1024 MB of RAM (2 x 512) and I am looking to upgrade soon. My options are as follows:
- Dell certfied RAM
- PNY RAM
- Kingston RAM
- Corsair RAM
Of course, for the Dell RAM, I have to wait for the shipping, but it is one of the cheaper ones. However, any of the other three I can pick up at Best Buy (which is more convenient). Can someone point out the pros and cons of each? It seems the PNY is a great buy, but could there be performance problems compared to the others? And why is the Kingston so expensive?
