Dell :: Computer Throttles Down To 800Mhz And STAYs There
Apr 16, 2010
I have a Studio 1555
I have a core 2 duo processor with 2.4ghz each core.
But for some reason speedstep works correctly and then randomly out of the blue it will throttle down to around 800Mhz and just STAY there, no matter what settings I've put, no matter if it's plugged in or not and no matter if I NEED more power.
I was running some tests today see how many watts was being pulled from the batter while at full load on my M4400 laptop after installing RM Utility. But found something I never noticed or did not happen before.
When set to max performance 100% CPU speed all the time, the systems keep the processor at 100%. As soon as you apply load while on battery it shoots down to 39% of full processor speed and then hops up and down. You can even see it in the temps while running tests, the processor is definitely not running at full speed. I swear I remember doing this same test a little while ago with no problems but I could be wrong.
So can I not run the systems at full capacity while battery power??
I was on A15 trying this test and downgraded to a14 with some results
When I set my Yoga 13 to tablet mode and set the orientation to Portrait mode, it throttles the CPU to 0.78 ghz and no matter what I run, it won't bring the CPU back to normal. Once I flip it back to laptop mode, it's back to normal. There needs to be an option turn the throttling feature on or off at will.
The other night I was showing my neighbor this glorious laptop and while demonstrating the game Birzzle, once in portrait mode, the game started freezing up because the CPU couldn't keep up.
I have an XPS Gen 2 Laptop. I know its like ancient now but after 3 years its still running pretty well. The problem is I'm getting severe fps drops in games and I realized something strange happened to my cpu.
The cpu load is going crazy because the cpu clock speed is locked at 800mhz.
I thought it was something wrong with SpeedStep but I turned that off and nothing changed. My cpu will not go past 800mhz.
Why is my cpu downclocked and what can I do to make it normal again. Dell BIOS doesn't really let u manipulate anything.'
CPU-Z shows
Core Speed: 798 MHz Multiplier: x 6 Bus Speed: 133 Mhz Rated FSB: 532
whys that when you can only use 667 on the current processors that are in there?
maybe they might actually just add centrino 2 processors to the m1530? i wouldnt mind, and i would probably buy one, as i cant be bothered waiting for the magical studio 13/16.
i quite like the m1530 design, so i hope they now add the processors and graphics card, and im buying one
Just got my 1647 set up (replacement for my 1640) and got sent an additional 4gb dimm and popped it in for a total of 8 gigs.
CPU-Z shows 8 gigs, everything works fine..The Memory tab is blank so it doesn't show what its actually running at or its timings or dual channel mode or not...Which caused me to think it wasn't running in dual channel mode..So I got everest ultimate edition and it indeed showed it was working in dual channel so I was happy..But then I noticed it reported the memory was running at 100mhz and in ddr3 terms that effectively is 800mhz...The ram should be running at a base clock of 133mhz or 1066mhz effectively. All the tabs report it as being rated at 1066 and all that registers fine..Its just the "actual clock" reports it at 100mhz instead of 133..
I thought back to the 4gb dimm I recieved..It was refurbished which made me think it was the culprit..So I did some tests. I tested each dimm individually and each time (alone and together) everest reported 100mhz (800mhz)..
So is everest to be trusted? Are both my dimms bad? Whats causing my dimms to run at 800mhz instead of 1066? There is nothing in bios to tweak so how can I change this? And let me repeat, both dimms, when installed BY THEMSELVES (so 4gb total) still report 100mhz...so it cant be the refurb dimm...
What gives?
My window index score on memory is 6.8..which is about what it was on my last machine which used the same speed ram..
I found a nice deal over Dell.com for this memory - yes, I know it's crazy but that was the cheapest place I found, they offered 15% off + FREE Next Business Day @ DHL, which sounds pretty good for me.
I'm going from 2x1GB DDR2 533Mhz to a 2x2GB OCZ DDR2 800Mhz@667Mhz with lifetime warranty for as low as $44 each module. I think will be great upgrade since my 2GB always wasn't enough!
I have a dell studio 1735, I changed my first boot disk, to an ocz Agility 3 and put windows 7 64 bits on it.
I changed the two slots of memories to an no name (compatible dell products) 4gb X 2 running at 800mhz eaches.
Put the first time I started my computer, it said it have to format the new memories before it would start windows, I accept, then these problems appears...
1- The memory was formated to 667mhz (the totality of gb still there: 8128mb of memory)
2-Many lags came (from video (streaming and on disk) and from a repeat task over a hard disk (I got two disks the other be an hybrid hdd/ssd) giving an error and closing the explorator of windows)
So I want to know if possible to reformat the memory sticks to/or put them to their native configuration of 800mhz....
I know the standard for this model is the 667Mhz DDR2, but I was curious if anyone had luck with 800Mhz memory on this model? I would like to upgrade the memory, but in case I cannot find a good deal on the 667 stuff, wondering if the 800 would work (albeit likely at the slower speed).
Also, any one get a quad-core processor working on this model? I know the T9500 is an awesome processor. I'm just curious.
My current RAM is: 1gb Corsair DDR2 667mhz (default from manufacturer) and 2gb Mushkin DDR2 800mhz
I searched through the internet that Acer 5920G can only support up to 667mhz.
The problem is, I'm planning to add 1gb more RAM, so it will be 2 x 2gb Mushkin 800mhz, since both of them will be downclocked to 667, will both of them still run in dual channel mode ?
I wanted to buy 667mhz one, buy every shop near my place says that 667mhz ram not distributed anymore and the price is quite the same.
I have Acer Travelmate 7520G (Turion TL-58) and upgraded from 2G of 667Mhz RAM to 4G of 800Mhz, however the memory is still running at 667Mhz and FSB:RAM being CPU/6. Chipset here is Ati RS690 and according to Everest it supports 800Mhz DDR2. There is no option in bios to change the RAM frequency or divider.. I have tried updating the bios with no luck.
i bought my wife a netbook, as she specifically requested, thing is, on 3cell 3hrs are great, but it has begun to "tear" a lot in WINXP.....
background services...etc have been seen to
so i check out CPUID and lavalys.....both showing Proc working along at 800mhz....i have tried to change power profile in XP ..... and tried making a new one, but there is no way to reduce that tearing effect...... it feels a bit sluggish to me, i am going to add a 2G module (accepts Elipda 2G module from my HP DV5T) so some RAM along those lines is wha i am aiming for......
how to stop/ allow the laptop to clock on OS load....cuz the 800mhz on the netbook is unacceptable.
Do Vaio Z Series laptop owners use their laptop as their main primary computer or a secondary computer? Do Vaio Z series owners also have a desktop pc as their primary computer and use their Vaio Z Series as a secondary computer? Or is your Vaio Z Series laptop your one and only computer that you always use? Is it comfortable using the 13 inch screen for long periods of time?
Reason i ask is some people have more then one computer and some people just have one.
I'm just wondering if the Vaio Z Series laptop is a good choice as a main computer since it's got good specs and it's nicely portable but will the 13 inch screen be ok to use for long periods even at the higher 1600 x 900 resolution?
I have a 2 month old outlet E6500, with the wxga+ led screen and nvidia graphics. I opened my laptop today- and the screen won't light! the laptop is running, the screen is on, but there's absoulotly no backlight.
I searched the web, restarted, played with all possible light settings
I have a problem with my brand new Dell Inspiron 15R SE, that I bought yesterday.
In the evening I could use it with no problem, other than it unexpectedly disconnected from the wifi once, but otherwise it was OK.
This morning it didn't start at all, when I press power button the Dell logo appears, and it stays like that forever, nothing happens. The power and the Wifi LEDs are on, when the charger is connected, the LED is on too.
I had to uninstall the current driver. After this it auto installed the old ati driver.
I uninstalled this one as well leaving me with the bare bones driver that comes with windows. After installing the modded driver again and restarting it began to work again................................................
We have a Dell Refurbished Inspiron M5010 for about a year. All of a sudden the battery is recognized but will not charge. It says it's plugged in and charging; but stays at 0%?
No matter how many times i restart the labtop, it will first go black screen with dell log, then "resuming windows", then goes to the "logging off.." screen and stays there FOREVER. I tried to use both battery or AC power but they are just the same. I can adjust the lightness of screen using my keyboard but I cant see my mouse pointer anywhere on the screen so i cant click on anything.
I have this dell inspiron mini 1012 with problems to charge, it always same plugged in, charging but it keep at 8% and if i disconect the AC the computer just shutdown.
i've reset to factory software like 3 times and its doesnt work at all so i just need to know if my battery just pass out.
When I boot my laptop the screen stays blank. You here the start up but screen still black as if not started. The blue symbol on F4 key lights up a 9 in a lock!! How I can get the screen to work?
I have an Sony laptop and when I shut it down I cant turn it back on unless I take out battery and reinsert it. The LED for power stays on until the battery is taken out. I can restart the laptop with no hassle, the problem only occur s if I shut it down and come back and try to turn it on. Other than this problem the laptop seems to be working fine
Recently, my Blackbook has had some troubles when I close the lid. What happens is the light never starts pulsing, and the laptop gets really warm and the fan goes crazy. When I open the lid, the screen stays black. When I reboot it, It shows the grey screen, goes black for a sec, then restarts. I tried reseting the pram, but it didnt help.
I was using my aspire yesterday to unistal an comodo anti virus program, then it stopped working. So I restarted the computer. it turn on but stay on the Acer logo. i tried the reset (HOLD POWER BTTTON FOR 30 SEC ) . It turned on but it still stay on the welcome Acer logo. whats wrong?.
I have an Acer Aspire 5630 and the USB ports do not go off when Windows is shutdown, hibernating or when it goes into slleep (standby) mode. They only go off when I disconnect the AC power. I just bought an external USB drive as my internal is almost full, but I don't want to have the external drive on 24/7. Disconnecting the drive is a bit inconvenient as I use the laptop with an external display and keyboard and keep the laptop itself hidden behind my desk. I updated the BIOS to Ver. 3.60, but I don't see settings in the BIOS for USB ports. Can these ports be turn off programatically. Do I need a special Acer Application or drivers to turn off the USB ports? I removed all the Acer Management bloatware that came with the laptop. Are there any jumpers inside the laptop that need to be changed?
I just upgraded to win7 but after it my speakers button still stay amber. I still get sound but it just doesnt turn white. How would i get it back to normal again?
