Acer :: 5920G Dual Channel With 800mhz RAM
Oct 7, 2009
My current RAM is:
1gb Corsair DDR2 667mhz (default from manufacturer) and
2gb Mushkin DDR2 800mhz
I searched through the internet that Acer 5920G can only support up to 667mhz.
The problem is, I'm planning to add 1gb more RAM, so it will be 2 x 2gb Mushkin 800mhz, since both of them will be downclocked to 667, will both of them still run in dual channel mode ?
I wanted to buy 667mhz one, buy every shop near my place says that 667mhz ram not distributed anymore and the price is quite the same.

The XPS 1645 offers choices of 4, 6, and 8GB of ram. Just out of curiosity, how can 6GB of ram be dual channel? I was under the impression that dual channel requires matching pairs, and that 6GB of ram would be one 4GB stick and one 2GB stick. However, the Alienware laptop seems to have listed what I would expect (3 and 6GB configurations not listed as dual channel).
See below.
[XPS 1645]
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 [Included in Price]
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 [Add $225.00]
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 [Add $375.00]
[Alienware M15x]
3GB DDR3 at 1066MHz [Included in Price]
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz [Add $50.00]
6GB DDR3 at 1066MHz [Add $200.00]
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz [Add $350.00]

its an HP DV6-1264CA Artist edition v.2 16" LED backlit 1366 X 768 (comp in sig)
-AMD Turion Ultra ZM-82 2.2GHz
-AMD RS780 Chipset
-2 x 2 Gig of Samsung DDR2-800 RAM
-ATI Mobility HD4650 1 Gig GDDR3
-1x Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB
All that on Vista Home Premium 64 bits. It's nice by the way, and I can play COD4, Doom3, HL2, Quake4 (my faves) at high details...of course I don't max out Crysis...lol but for last year's games, it's fine, especially for a lappy that cost $999 Canadian
I'm running all kinds of diagnosis tools to check on everything on the lappy:
-Everest Ultimate, CPUZ & others...
There is NO mention about the RAM running in dual-channel.
In CPUZ, where I should see DUAL, the area is grayed out.
I know there is 2 sticks of Samsung DDR2-800 (2 slots and the platform is able to run dual-channel according to AMD).....

She has been wanting to make the windows 7 switch, however she only has 512MB ram in it, so she ordered a 2x1GB ddr2 667 Crucial kit off Newegg for me to install.
After it arrived I popped open her memory compartment and lo and behold there were two 512 sticks already in there. I was puzzled by this, so I installed the new ram and went into the BIOS, which reported that dual channel mode was running and there was only 1024MB of memory.
I naturally thought one of the memory slots was dead so I tried each stick in one slot at a time, each time it booted up with the exact same info, 1024MB of ram. From this I can only conclude that it simply refuses to actually run dual channel, despite both slots being perfectly functional.
I have flashed the BIOS, to no avail, and now have no idea what to do.

I have a Inspiron 1420 with 2GB of RAM. It's probably two sticks (my wife's using it now so I can't check) of 1GB.
Question:
If I want 3GB of RAM, and replace one of the 1GB modules with a 2GB one, will I lose any dual channel benefits?

I have a question about 4gb of memory on inspirons. I recently put in 4GB's memory in my inspiron (Corsair brand) and I am running XP(x86) aka 32bit. Windows sees 3.25gb's which is exactly correct.
Awhile back I read that the inspiron motherboard which is an intel, will not run the memory in Dual Channel mode, which will slow the memory down about 3-5%. However I am not sure of how true or not this is. I put the memory and checked my bios and its showing all 4GB's and "Dual Channel" enabled.
So the question is how real is this dual channel concern if the bios is saying its in dual channel mode? PS we are both running the latest bios A17.

I posses a dell 9400/e1705. Currently I have 2GB of RAM installed (in one piece). I was thinking of installing an additional 2GB. I was wondering if there is any sense in doing so.
First of all I have 32bit system, so the whole amount (4GB) will not be recognized. Secondly I am unsure if I will notice any increasement in performance. I mainly use the computer for photo retouch in Photoshop (I operate on big RAW files) and sometimes I install games.
A friend of mine said this would a good idea beacause even though the system will not see 4GB the chipset will allow the two memories to work in dual channel (If i were to add just 1GB I would have a total of 3GB but no dual channel).

I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!).  It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional  It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb. Â
Â
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. Â All set right?
Â
Not quite.  In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2"  However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2"  Opps!  There is no "3" and there is no "4"  In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?

I have Acer Travelmate 7520G (Turion TL-58) and upgraded from 2G of 667Mhz RAM to 4G of 800Mhz, however the memory is still running at 667Mhz and FSB:RAM being CPU/6. Chipset here is Ati RS690 and according to Everest it supports 800Mhz DDR2. There is no option in bios to change the RAM frequency or divider.. I have tried updating the bios with no luck.

i bought my wife a netbook, as she specifically requested, thing is, on 3cell 3hrs are great, but it has begun to "tear" a lot in WINXP.....
background services...etc have been seen to
so i check out CPUID and lavalys.....both showing Proc working along at 800mhz....i have tried to change power profile in XP ..... and tried making a new one, but there is no way to reduce that tearing effect...... it feels a bit sluggish to me, i am going to add a 2G module (accepts Elipda 2G module from my HP DV5T) so some RAM along those lines is wha i am aiming for......
how to stop/ allow the laptop to clock on OS load....cuz the 800mhz on the netbook is unacceptable.

I have an XPS Gen 2 Laptop. I know its like ancient now but after 3 years its still running pretty well. The problem is I'm getting severe fps drops in games and I realized something strange happened to my cpu.
The cpu load is going crazy because the cpu clock speed is locked at 800mhz.
I thought it was something wrong with SpeedStep but I turned that off and nothing changed. My cpu will not go past 800mhz.
Why is my cpu downclocked and what can I do to make it normal again. Dell BIOS doesn't really let u manipulate anything.'
CPU-Z shows
Core Speed: 798 MHz
Multiplier: x 6
Bus Speed: 133 Mhz
Rated FSB: 532

you can add 8gb of 800mhz ram?
whys that when you can only use 667 on the current processors that are in there?
maybe they might actually just add centrino 2 processors to the m1530?
i wouldnt mind, and i would probably buy one, as i cant be bothered waiting for the magical studio 13/16.
i quite like the m1530 design, so i hope they now add the processors and graphics card, and im buying one

I know the standard for this model is the 667Mhz DDR2, but I was curious if anyone had luck with 800Mhz memory on this model? I would like to upgrade the memory, but in case I cannot find a good deal on the 667 stuff, wondering if the 800 would work (albeit likely at the slower speed).
Also, any one get a quad-core processor working on this model? I know the T9500 is an awesome processor. I'm just curious.

Just got my 1647 set up (replacement for my 1640) and got sent an additional 4gb dimm and popped it in for a total of 8 gigs.
CPU-Z shows 8 gigs, everything works fine..The Memory tab is blank so it doesn't show what its actually running at or its timings or dual channel mode or not...Which caused me to think it wasn't running in dual channel mode..So I got everest ultimate edition and it indeed showed it was working in dual channel so I was happy..But then I noticed it reported the memory was running at 100mhz and in ddr3 terms that effectively is 800mhz...The ram should be running at a base clock of 133mhz or 1066mhz effectively. All the tabs report it as being rated at 1066 and all that registers fine..Its just the "actual clock" reports it at 100mhz instead of 133..
I thought back to the 4gb dimm I recieved..It was refurbished which made me think it was the culprit..So I did some tests. I tested each dimm individually and each time (alone and together) everest reported 100mhz (800mhz)..
So is everest to be trusted? Are both my dimms bad? Whats causing my dimms to run at 800mhz instead of 1066? There is nothing in bios to tweak so how can I change this? And let me repeat, both dimms, when installed BY THEMSELVES (so 4gb total) still report 100mhz...so it cant be the refurb dimm...
What gives?
My window index score on memory is 6.8..which is about what it was on my last machine which used the same speed ram..
Could everest be wrong?

I have a Studio 1555
I have a core 2 duo processor with 2.4ghz each core.
But for some reason speedstep works correctly and then randomly out of the blue it will throttle down to around 800Mhz and just STAY there, no matter what settings I've put, no matter if it's plugged in or not and no matter if I NEED more power.

I found a nice deal over Dell.com for this memory - yes, I know it's crazy but that was the cheapest place I found, they offered 15% off + FREE Next Business Day @ DHL, which sounds pretty good for me.
I'm going from 2x1GB DDR2 533Mhz to a 2x2GB OCZ DDR2 800Mhz@667Mhz with lifetime warranty for as low as $44 each module. I think will be great upgrade since my 2GB always wasn't enough!

Under the hood of the 17.1-inch Firefly we found a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core CPU, 4GB of RAM, a pair of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs running in CrossFire mode, and a 7,200 rpm 250GB hard drive. The Firefly spec sheet said the machine is capable of overclocking, but we didn’t touch the BIOS.
And a MultiTouch trackpad, Backlit keyboard (with m15x-esque customizable colours), Creative X-Fi audio and a Dual Hinge like the HDX 20.

I have a dell studio 1735, I changed my first boot disk, to an ocz Agility 3 and put windows 7 64 bits on it.
I changed the two slots of memories to an no name (compatible dell products) 4gb X 2 running at 800mhz eaches.
Put the first time I started my computer, it said it have to format the new memories before it would start windows, I accept, then these problems appears...
1- The memory was formated to 667mhz (the totality of gb still there: 8128mb of memory)
2-Many lags came (from video (streaming and on disk) and from a repeat task over a hard disk (I got two disks the other be an hybrid hdd/ssd) giving an error and closing the explorator of windows)
So I want to know if possible to reformat the memory sticks to/or put them to their native configuration of 800mhz....

I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.

I have looked up both the motherboard (Wistron 30b5) and my laptop model but cannot find whether it supports dual channel ram. I have the Sempron CPU. I currently have 2x1gb on order but if it doesn't support dual channel then I will return it for a 1x2gb and keep a 512mb stick in the second slot.
While we are at it, does anyone know which processors could be used with this mobo?

My 5920G which I got for Christmas is giving me some problems.
I have gone to power options and and changed the settings so when I close the lid, nothing must happen. But when I come back in about 20 minutes after leaving the lid closed, there is no way of me getting the LCD to start up. The only way I can get past this is by pressing the power button in for a few seconds forcing it to shut down. Obviously this is bad for my notebook. How do I get this sorted out? The same thing happens if I leave the lid open and come back in a while.

well i have decided to replace the stock thermal paste on my 5920g, however, i was suprised to see that acer used therma pads intead of thermal paste
im even more suprised to see that there are thermal pads all over my gpu and cpu
heres a rough picture of how it looks like
silver color denotes where thermal pads where installed
the weird thing is that the copper plate of the heat sink only touches the parts of the picture with the orange circle
should i put AC MX-2 on the areas where i found thermal pads or just on the areas where the copper plates of the heat sink touches the core
