Dell :: Inspiron Ethernet Controller
Jun 18, 2009I had to format the wife's old Dell Inspiron 5100 and reinstall XP. I did not have the install CD that has all the drivers so I went to the dell website and downloaded all that I needed.
I got everything installed but the hardware manager says I have an "ethernet controller" that does not have a driver. It has a Broadcom network card in it and it says the driver is loaded properly and that the device is functioning correctly .....

May 22, 2014I have a hp mini 210-2145. It had windows 7 home edition 32bit on it but I formatted it and put windows 7 professional 64 bit on. I cant get the wifi to work. I finally got the regular plug in to work but still no wifi. I have went to the driver site and installed both chip sets. and downloaded a bunch of the internet drivers listed on the network drivers list. After installing a bunch of them i noticed the system scan. It detected that i had a 802.11b/g/n WLAN. Thats the irst one on the site so i redownloaded and instaled it and it still isnt working. In the device manager it shows the yellow exclamation and just says ethernet controller.

Mar 3, 2013I have a D620 Latitude. Two days ago I had it on stand-by mode and I restart it. The screen was blurry/offset with pink lines appearing in certain blueish areas. I saw also that there was a message coming out of the notification area at the bottom right saying that the virtual memory was low. To make you understand what I mean by offset, when I right the letter "I" I can see a ghosting effect with a second "I" appearing next it. So what I see is almost an "II". It is as if 50% of the pixel information are tranferred to a few pixels to the left or right.
OK so I did my search and found the DELL support [URL] .....
I checked and updated the drivers to the proposed (BIOS to A08 and NVIDIA to A10) but nothing.I then had a look at the BIOS and I could see also some distortion. I guess that means that there are hardware issues. I then run the diagnostics on the BIOS and it gave me two errors DST 1000-1046 which I guess it means that there is some sort of driver issue. I run the chdsk /f and it found no errors to fix. So am stiull trying to understand if this is a hardware or software issue. I have not yet the wire to make the connection to another display. I saw an article on the web from someone who made a change in a .inf file of NVIDIA claiming that this blurring/offset is because of missing information in the NVIDIA .inf file.
Dell Inspiron N5010 :: Unable To Connect To Ethernet - Error 797
Apr 15, 2013I have Dell Insipiron 15 R N5010 laptop and I cant connect to cable internet. I was getting error 651 which I fixed after changing my raspppoe.sys file but after that I am getting error 797.
Error 797: The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed. Please make sure that the modem or other connecting device is installed.
I tried checking the Modem under Network Adaptors and found there is a yellow mark next to "WAN miniport pppoe"
I tried updating the drivers but its not accepting and gave me error:
"Windows has found the drivers for your device but unable to update, could not found the specified file"
I have tried udisabling and re-enabling wan miniport but no luck....Tried un-installing it and check all other settings in Internet options but no luck. How to restore it to factory settings if that is my last resort ?

The problem I have is with the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (ethernet). In the device manager it is shown with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. In the device state it is stated:Â Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. I tried the following to resolve the problem:
- 2 different bios versions (F.26 and F.25).
- several add/remove/reinstall of the Realtek drivers
- 2 different versions of Realtek drivers:Â 8.3.730.2012 and 8.20.815.2013 (from Realtek site).

Ethernet is working OK under Ubuntu.

Dell Inspiron L502X :: SM Controller Error And System Crashes?
Apr 23, 2013Recently got a hand me down laptop. My brother did a reinstall of Windows 7 and formatted the hard drive before handing it over.
Its having issues - I'm trying to play FM 2013 but keep getting crashes during games. When I looked in Device Manager there were a load of yellow !. Most I solved by just right clicking and updating the drivers. The 540M graphiics were not showing up a all - so I had to download these from the website myself - but now have the Nvidia centre - which seems to work.
But still the SM bus controller still shows a yellow ! - and the game continues to crash, sometimes it forces a system shutdown.
When I click on the yellow ! and get a hardware ids i get:

I've been told that I need my video controller working so I can put my computer into standby or hibernate, since that option is not working on my computer.
My computer works fine but I really would like to fix this two issues!!!

Then I run the diagnostic software from Dell Support website, the result of the processor on/off test is error code 3700:011B -> my fan failed to slow down to 2500rpm. the fan keeps running at high speed (about 4500rpm). my bios is A10.

Feb 1, 2009i recently bought a dell from craigslist a month or so ago and seemed to work fine, i recently installed ubuntu on it, i dont know if it has anything to do with my problem but anyways...
problem started when the laptop would shut off unexpectedly, but would start right back up fine.. i think it was due to overheating im not sure if the fan is working or not bcuz i hear no sounds coming from it. it showed a screen saying it shut down bcuz of it was getting too hot twice. i opened it up and checked for dust in the fan and cleaned it up. after it shut down about 3 or 4 times while using it, it wouldnt reboot. when i push the power button the three caps lock, number lock, and scroll lock will flash as does the power light then it will shut back down. occasionally it will boot and make it as far as the desktop screen then the screen will go black, but the lights will still be on as if the computer is still running, and i will have to hold the power button down to get it to turn off.
one thing i have noticed is that with the hard drive in the laptop it will make a beep noise then shutdown, if the hard drive is out it will shut down with no noise.
i have tried everything, i have reseated the ddr memory and tried running off just the power cable or just the battery with no success.

Mar 7, 2010I'm having some issues with my D620. I got Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for my PS3. It's a really good and fun game,
but i wanna try out playing it with the mods some people have come up with. So i bought it for PC and installed it on my D620.
The problem is that every time i click "Play" in the main menu, the quickly says "Oblivion has stopped working" and then it exits Oblivion. Can anyone help? I don't know much about computers. I'll get you whatever information you need to help me out

Dec 10, 2008I have recently purchased a D620 from eBay and am experiencing the following problem with charging the battery:
Battery charges normally to 29% and then charge rate falls back and charge will not exceed 31% and charge light goes off.
MobileMeter gives battery wear rate of 21%
When the laptop arrived the battery had a 100% charge but once used it will not charge over 31%.
I have tried different charger.
At 31% I can get 40 mins of power normal use.
Is the problem with the battery or internal control of the charging rate? If the latter it could explain why the battery arrived fully charged if it had been charged on another computer or commercial group charger.
Dell :: Adding Memory To A D620
Apr 18, 2010I like my Dell D620 so much that I just got another one. I've heard that I should not add an additional 1G module to the existing 1G in this laptop, but rather that it is best to replace the existing 1G with either two matched 1G modules or one 2G module. Is that correct? Seems a shame to toss the 1G that's already in there . . .
Could I add a 2G module to the 1G that's already in there? I'm assuming that the bay will accept two RAM modules.
The OS is XP-Pro, SP3, if that matters.

Running Windows7. So far, runs OK, but I wanted more RAM than the 1GB it had. Also put in larger HDD (320GB).
