i dont care about the bad sound of a laptop but it keeps skipping i tried different drivers and they all skip...ive tried the vista drivers and the dell drivers.
i have a e6400 with a p8600, wxga+ screen, intel 5100 agn, nvidia 160m gpu with pc card, and a 9 cell. i also upgraded my ram and hd to a 320 gig and 4 gigs if that matters.
I have a XPS1530 t7700, 2gb ram, 160gb HD. Vista Premium 32bit.
It's the common studder, pop, skip, chop whatever you wanna call it when playing music or any audio while the internet connection is active. Using winamp, WMP, youtube, they all skip. Here is what i've come to discover, after trying eveyone's solutions, some working for others but all not working for me.
-Skippy audio happens ONLY when the internet connection is active (Intel Wireless 4965AGN), disable the connection and audio plays perfectly. Open a heavy bandwidth webpage or torrent program and the sound gets much worse. and Yes, drivers are fully updated 7/8/08
-Sigmatel HD audio codec is NOT the problem. I've completly uninstalled sigmatel and still have issues even with Microsofts generic HD sound drivers. currently using sigmatel driver R171789 for the Stereo Mix recording function. Sigmatel drivers fully updated as well.
-Disabling the wireless "A" band or both A and B bands doesnt do anything to fix the skipping.
-Installed the popular LG soundcard codec in place of sigmatel, and that did nothing.
-Called dell and they just think something is faulty and wanna start replacing parts. Thats doesnt work either, Ive read countless threads about dell replacing parts to fix this issue and it's just a waste of time.
Is there any hope of fixing this skippy audio? mine skips soo bad where i cant even listen to music without wanting to smash my xps.
My ancient Inspiron 1520 laptop with XP works fine but recently the "N" key misses now and then. Do I get that key replaced or is there some way to fix it.
Frustrated by my audio skipping on my E6500 I started going through various threads (some quite large)
trying to gather solutions that people say worked for them. I wanted to start a new thread contain solutions and links to the referencing thread to help centralize the data.
Hopefully someone might find this more useful than digging through pages and pages of conversations!
I have tried most if not all these solutions and none have worked for me. I still have 1 skip every minute or 2 and cannot listen to a single mp3 without it at least having a single skip somewhere in it.
1- my hard drive makes a very soft clicking noise, only noticeable when the room is perfectly quiet. but it's also noticeable because my system locks when it clicks for this split second, enough that if im scrolling it lags. not a biggie but...
2- ive found my audio (mp3s) to be skipping (odd click or blip here or there, like the track was ripped badly), and to my ear's horror, PURE STATIC for a few seconds will pop up irregardless of the volume settings (ie. i will try to scroll down volume in itunes but it has no effect on the banshee like sound thats trying to destroy my ear drums).
This happens in WMP and iTunes, so its not a software problem....
so whats going on? hdd dying? sound card dying? windows?
I have a T430s and I love it so far, except one negative thing is that it keeps "skipping" around whenever I type. During typing, on random occasions it will skip to wherever the cursor is placed at that moment, often in the middle of a word I had already typed previously. (It has done it 4 times while typing this message) Obviously, this makes it very annoying to have to re-do a word or sentence over and over. I definitely don't type extremely fast and try to be careful with my hand placement, but as a normal sized adult male, can it be possible that the new Chiclet Keyboard makes it easier for my fingers or palm to inadvertantly move or press the touchpad which causes this problem? Or is this a software defect?
This is my second Thinkpad and I've never had this problem before.
So I recently purchased this powerhouse of a machine and absolutely love it. I have one problem though and it is a really bothersome one to me because i really enjoy listening to m music and use my laptop as an audio source for my higher end audio components.
I have an envy 15t-j000 touchsmart that i purchased in late july and received in mid august with the beats audio option.
Ever since I first powered on the computer the audio would skip or fluctuate. I would notice the fluctuation when plugged into my stereo via the 3.5mm headphone jack. It would sound like the volume would lsightly fluctuate or maybe miss some of the lower end frequencies.
The more noticeable problem is the skipping. It will make a skipping noise that sounds as if the computer is bogged down with material, even when all that is being performed is playback. It sounds like frequency in the lines. This will occur at random times under various circumstances. It occurs when playing a music file as well as streaming music through spotify or pandora or playing a video on youtube. The skipping occurs in all those circumstances in both output to another source (headphones or speakers) as well as playing through the built in speakers.
Is it possible I am missing a driver? Is the sound card messed up? Is it just a problem with the computer? is there a fix that doesn't require me sending it back to hp?
while im charing the laptop is a t tip top condition but if i remove the charger while the laptop plays any thing graphically intensive like a game it just blacks out boom without shutting down. even if i try starting the game without it charging it still blacks out when if starts redering the graphics ive tried every thing n i always meet a dead end
I have installed Street Fighter 4, Dirt 2, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age and Burnout paradise, and all these games have one common problem and that is it lags after 3 minutes and then runs smoothly. I really don't understand what i have to do to fix it. I have tried all the possible solution and i have the latest Nvidia Driver (195.62 driver) from the Nvidia website. If anyone has solved this lagging problems then could you please, please, please help me out on this. Below is my laptop configuration
i recently bought a Dell studio 1555, i have been using it for 10 days now and just yeterday i installed tom clancy's HAWX on it, after 5 minutes of playing the game it froze (crashed) and the screen turned from white to purple to other colours untill it went back to white... i thought it was the game so i tried playing COD 4, COD 5, Rainbow six V2, GRAW 2 and Far cry 2......they all run smoothly on high/medium graphics settings......but after a couple of minutes like 4 or 5 it crashes and the screen goes white and then fades from white to blue to purple then white.
the specifications of my laptop are as follows -P8600 2.4ghz core 2 duo -3GB RAM -512mb dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 -320GB 7200rpm HDD the problem only happens whenever i play games for a few minutes!
I reinstalled windows xp on the m1730 system, the game panel (this is the little lcd panel above the keyboard on the right side) worked for a bit and now doesn't come on, I have downloaded and installed all the drivers from the dell website but it still doesn't work,
i have a dell inspiron 1505 notebook. I bought it new about 1 year ago, i had it upgraded from dell with the 1.86 core 2 duo processor 1 gb of ram and a 128 ati x1300 mobility graphics card. 1 year ago most games only required a 128mb card which was fine, but now most seem to run on 256, there was a 256 option from dell for another 80 dollars on top of the other upgrade fee i already paid and i did not think it was necessary. So i know there is one out there. I have searched around on the internet for a while off and on and i can only find reviews of products i can not find any info on where you can actually buy an upgrade for this computer... I would like to get it upgraded to the 256 if it would not be too much. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
And also i play Battlefield 2142 occasionally and it had a freezing issue on the load screen so i dropped the graphic settings down a bit then it worked fine. But it has happened again, and i dropped the settings down as far as they can go with no luck it still does not work, and the EA tech told me to look for an update for my graphics card which i did and installed one that said it fixed "some gaming issues" but it did not fix the freezing issue.
I have been having problems with my XPS L502x I use to play Saint Rows the Third on my laptop it use to play perfectly but now after a year I restored my factory setting now when ever i install any of my old games they start off perfectly but during the game it hangs a lot...
I recently purchased a Studio XPS 13 (a month ago), and since the beginning, I've noticed that every time I run a game on high performance (g210m + 9400mg), the game either crashes or gets stuck. At the same settings, if I run the game in normal mode (9400 mg), it usually works fine. The settings are medium-low, never high. I really can't understand why this happens. Isn't the G210M supposed to make things better? is it a problem with the drivers? I have all the latest drivers updated from the Dell site. or is this a problem with my hardware? really worried and unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about computers.
The games I've run so far are COD4, COD6 and NFS Shift. They are all ripped copies.
For all the dell studio 15 owners please post the games you have testing and what framerates you receive. Tell us what settings you use to play the game. Please list the specs of your studio 15.
Let me be the first, Studio 1537 256mb Ati Mobility radeon 3450 Intel core 2 duo t-5800 2.0ghz 250 gb 5400rpm harddrive 3gb of ddr2 800mhz ram.
My games I play. Left 4 dead- Medium/high at 1280 by 800 resolution. I have everything on high besides shadows, which i set to medium, and I tuned download AA to 2x. Antrofic filter is on 16x. It runs around 20-35 fps. Average around 30 .....
I have a problem with gaming on the Inspiron 1521 laptop running on vista home prem. Ok, take any game that has some 3-D effects on it, when I play the game with the battery charger plugged into my laptop, the game starts and then it just freezes.
I have to hold the power button to get out of it, but when I take the battery charger out of the laptop and start the game, it works fine but a little slow. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
It was all fine last night. but switched on the beast today, and the gamepanel now only shows fraps and the media player sidebar! And the LCD manager doesnt show any other programs!
I bought a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) laptop 2 weeks ago and have found a lot of trouble with it. It is an i7, 8gb ram with the nvidia 540m video card.
I have tried 3 different games, Left 4 Dead, League of Legends and Dragon Nest, and it crashes/freezes in all 3 games. You are able to run the game in high graphics however, it will crash in a shorter amount of time. If you put it on lowest quality, it still crashes, but it tends to take a longer time.
Things that I have tried.
- Old Drivers, New drivers, drivers from the dell site, drivers from nvidia, beta drivers
- driver sweeper
- changing the gpu to nvidia high performance instead of integrated graphics for the different games and programs
- changing the physx hardware to nvidia 540m
- set battery to high performance
- dell tech support, all they did was change integrated to nvidia high performance and change one setting in hopes of fixing the issue as well as using the system scan for issues, the report came back as passed and no issues.
And today while I was messing around with the settings, I have found a mediocre alternative to this problem. If you simply never use the nvidia GPU then there will never be a crash. You simply do everything with your integrated card. You will be able to run a game like League of Legends on Normal settings at best. However if you do this, it is as if you wasted all your money to get the nvidia 540m that simply does not work.
I put the sims 3 in the computer, it loads to the main screen and the shuts down. It doesn't give any warning and does not restart. It also doesn't give a reason or notice as to why it shut down. The computer is not over-heating and I only have 1 expansion pack. Extra info: It is an 8GB RAM, intel core i5, is a 64-bit operating system, and Windows 8.
My problem is that the laptop is getting extremely hot on the left side of keyboard during any games i play, even older games. I literally cannot rest my left hand to use keyboard as it is frying it.
When i initially bought the laptop 4 months ago I could play those games and the case (keyboard area including) would stay perfectly cool. I had even played need for speed hot pursuit new with full graphics and laptop was cool.
There is a definite massive difference in case temperature between initial month or so and recently.
HW monitor program recorded temperatures of 85 degrees max for i5 processor, and around 72-78 degrees on graphics card during game play on a variety of games old and new.
Worth to mention that during other lightweight activities, such as surfing etc the laptop is cool.
I say 'playing' because I never actually get there. Say, Im on the train, and I'll want to play something.. Assassins Creed. I load it up, loading screen is fine, the little video opening is fine, as soon as it comes to actually rendering the graphics it jsut turns itself off. I plug it in at home and it runs beautifully, but as soon as I unplug that power cable, the whole thing just turns off.
It reports a windows error after this, but there is nothing in the error log telling me what shut it down. I KNOW this isn't overheating because I can play it fine on power and although it gets hot when playing gfx intense games it has never turned itself offdue to that.
The games I can play on battery are WoW and Cimcity 4 and audiosurf (although that lags alot on battery :) xD
The games I cannot are Assassins Creed and Devil may Cry 4.
Is this a power issue?
I have tried on multiple power settings and it still likes to turn off when I want to play these games. It may be a GPU power issue?
I have a Studio XPS 1640 that I bought approximately two months ago. It was working fine until today.
I was bored and was playing Chess Titans when the screen would all of the sudden go blank.
The keyboard would not respond and I had to do a hard shutdown. I played Chess Titans again and it was working fine for a few games but all of the sudden it went to the blank, black screen again and I had to do a hard shutdown.
I purchased an inspiron 15r 5520 a few months ago. I ran assassins creed 3 on it and have run into some problems.
Now I read a lot about this problem on other forums. Whenever I run the game it crashes after some time and hangs up my computer too. Many think its because the dedicated graphic card (Radeon 7760M).
