My laptop is not booting and the screen is two tones of grey when I try to boot.
I was working on it and left it alone for an hour and when I came back the screen was grey and have not since been able to get it to shut down or start up.
My Dell Inspiron 3520 screen goes grey with horizontal lines during use. It reminds me of an old TV except the lines do not scroll. It started after I upgraded from 8 to 8.1.

I did do my research and knw that it is a read / write RAM error according to the beep code table for dell laptops. I did attempt to change the RAM sticks but it didnt work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy dell Inspiron 15R (5521) is no longer working. It started one day when we my wife was using the laptop and it started beeping and shut down. I thought it was the battery because when I plugged in the AC adapter the light on the end of the AC adapter plug would go out. I figured the battery was shorted. I bought a new battery and it took about 5 days to come in. After a day or so I tried using the laptop again with the original battery and it worked. When the new battery came in I swapped them out and after 3-4 days it failed again. Now it doesn't work at all with either battery. It will turn on but the screen is black. I tried booting it up while holding down the Fn key to go into diagnostic mode. After the fan kits on I get a sequence of beeps and tones. I've attached a video to show you the sequence. Basically it has 6 beeps than 10 beeps than 3 sets of 3 beeps followed by a tone than it does the 3 sets of 3 beeps again and again.

XPS M1710 Duo Processor T2600 (2.16 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB)
However, since yesterday, when I press the power on button I just get a strange grey screen. I can't get past this. I left it overnight and in the morning I get the same thing. It is a mainly grey/white screen and if I leave it some more bits of grey appear on it in a strange way. I'm not really sure what to do. I've never openened my laptop up to remove dust but have blown through the fans a few times so I imagine that it is very dusty inside.
I bought an XPS13 i7, installed the BIOS (that went fine) and then installed the drivers. After installing the "WiFi Display" driver, the computer will not restart. Here is what happens:
I select the restart option
it shuts down
it powers up (the Dell logo appears)
it then goes to a grey screen.
After approximately 10 seconds (or after I press enter) a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the words "F12 Options." The progress bar is persistently at 99% or thereabouts the computer is completely frozen and nothing happens
If I then press the power button, it powers off. When I press the power button again, it starts perfectly normally.
The main concern for me is that this is the second XPS13 from Dell in 1 week!!! The first one had an almost identical problems after the driver installs but it couldn't even be powered back into Windows. No matter what you tried, it simply went to the screen with the progress bar and froze.
I have a 17 Inch Inspiron R Se that I purchased in January...it has started booting to a black screen...if I press the power button again to turn it off then back on it boots fine...it is very annoying seeing as it is almost new...I had the same issue a couple of weeks after getting it and did the computer renew thing which fixed it (until now) but I don't want to do that again as I have a ton of stuff on it now that I don't want to mess with and have to reload etc...
I tried the hard reset and it did absolutely nothing...ran the diagnostics and everything passed.
When I press power button , my laptop show odd screen and and strip on the screen.it also start doing blue
screen dumping and do not transfers boot to OS at all , after all this computer goes auto shutdown.
My Dell Inspiron 1520 does not complete booting. It start booting, then the screen go black. I am currently doing is 'diagnostic test'. This also came back with no problem, but a window popped up and asked whether I want to continue to full diagnosis. I closed YES. I hope this solves the black screen problem.
Before this problem, the battery would go flat in 20-30 min when not connected to AC source.

The computer does not wake up even after I push the power button and the screen continues to be blank. The only way that I've gotten it to respond is by shutting off, unplugging, removing battery and then replacing battery and turning it back on again. I've done this in different combinations. Do I need a new battery or is something else wrong?

The initial windows 8 parameters have been registered properly (it seems...) and since the second requested reboot the PC does not go to windows 8. I have been suspecting a hardware problem and ran the full diagnostic (success!). There is nothing into the setup (F2) parameters which looks wrong and none of the boot options (F12) I tried have been successful... Is there a way to run a windows 8 safe mode boot or equivalent (note that I cannot go inside windows 8 top change this kind of option of course), and to move forward?

I have a dell inspiron n5110 laptop that was recently slammed to the floor because of some crazy incident. Anyways, the screen shattered so i replaced the screen and attached the cables properly. The laptop powers on, but no display on the screen what so ever, its completely black.
I did the take out the battery and power cord, held power down for 60 sec. that was a no go
I don't know what could be the problem. I even hooked the laptop via hdmi to my tv and it works fine on the tv so i know the laptop is working. Also my warranty expired so that won't do. would really like to resolve this issue without forking over a couple hundred bucks.

Now when i press the power button , the fans starts up and everything and the screen just comes grey sometimes with stripes on it . There is no actual sound eg. vista sound or anything but theres is sound coming from the fans. I bought inspiron N5110 laptop from about 8 months from middle east. From 5 months when I came to USA the laptop stop working. I tried to send it to dell as it was still in the warranty but they refused to take it because it had not an international warranty. I sent it to a technician in USA who told me that the motherboard is overheated. I got a motherboard that has the same part number and install it in the laptop.
The problem is that when I power it on some times the screen not display anything although it logs in windows as I hear the sound, and sometimes it log to windows and after about 15 min the screen stop working.
I do not know why it do this is this a problem in the new motherboard? or in the CPU?
I've just dropped my laptop (dell inspirion n5110) while it was on (about a feet) and now it's beeping. I also noticed that the bottom left of the screen disattached, but I was able to put it back in. I understand that 8 beeps mean LCD failure. I've tried to do the test run by pressing "D" but nothing shows up, only a white screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my wife just got a brand new macbook about a week ago, but accidentally dropped it about a foot or two this morning. The "case" which we got from macmall did practically nothing, and I think one corner of the macbook took the brunt of it.
Now, the macbook won't get past the grey startup screen. I'll see the mac symbol, and then a "no entry" (circle with a diagonal line through it) sign, and then the system will just hang.
I've used the Mac OS X install dvd to use Disk Utility to try to repair the hard drive, but Disk Utility didn't find any problems. Everything was green and good to go.
I'm running the Hardware Test now, but I was wondering if anyone here would have any ideas about what to do next, or what is causing this problem?
Update 1: The hardware test said everything was fine, too.
Update 2: It can boot in safe mode! Everything looks good from the safe boot, I've got access to all the files and everything..........................
few days back dell inspiron's windows got crashed.
I can reinstall But at the same time i will also lose my data.
is there any way I can get the window problem fixed keeping data safe at the same time

I tried to use repair option but didnt work as it said there is no system image...
Every time I start my laptop Inspiron n5110, it goes to the blue error screen where it says 'collecting data for crash dump'. It usually happens in under a minute after starting the laptop. Once the screen shows I have to force restart by pressing the power key for few seconds.
