I have a Dell XPS M1530 and recently installed Windows 7
Last night I plugged in my smartphone for the first time, then the USB ports seemed to stop working.
USB mice don't light up, phones don't charge
This also includes the built in fingerprint scanner and bluetooth module, which I suspect is linked to the USB internally.

I have a Dell Latitude E6430 laptop running windows 7 64-bit. When I try to use it with a docking station, the USB ports on the docking station do not work. When I try to use a USB mouse with it, it only works with one of the USB ports. When I try using my printer (HP laserjet 1320) through the USB ports, it doesn't work (it did previously with a Dell latitude E6430 running windows 7 64-bit).
I've installed the latest BIOS upgrade, updated the USB and intel chipset drivers. How do I get these working?
According to dell, the E6400 has 4 USB 2 ports (1 with powershare) and 1 esata port.
Using the laptop, 2 of the USB ports are on the right and the one with powershare is on the left side along with the esata port. Where is the 4th USB port?
So a few weeks back, one of the two usb ports on my DELL XPS L502X fell backwards inside the socket, making it unreachable. That wasn't a big issue since I still had one perfectly fine usb port. This morning, when i tried using my wireless mouse (that had its receiver inside the 1 working port), it din't work. I replaced the cells but it still did not work. I put in another usb stick and the computer wouldn't recognize it. It acted as if there was nothing there at all.
When I check my USB port statuses from the device manager, it shows that both the hubs are working. I cannot understand what is going on. The port doesn't have any visible damage, and it looks perfectly normal but doesn't work.
I'm a bit interested in seeing if I can put the micro receiver for my Logitech mouse somewhere inside my E6410's enclosure.
I've added micro receivers for stuff before to an eeePC 701, because I was able to connect a small USB board to the header on the motherboard originally used for the webcam.
Is there something similar that could be done to an E6410? Anyone tried this before?
Well my S-XPS 1645 seems to be acting up when i connect devices to it via the USB ports when its on battery.
My Hard drive doesnt detect nor does my mp3 player through any of the USB ports.My hard drive's light actually stops blinking after like 10 seconds.
If i connect the adapter it still doesnt get detected.Only if i restart the laptop with the Adapter connected,do the USB devices start functioning?
I just bought a studio xps 1647 from best buy and today the usb ports stopped working. They could not see multiple jump drives I inserted.
Is this a win 7 flaw or is something wrong with my laptop? It was in sleep earlier. My theory is that the laptop just didn't wake the ports coming out of sleep mode. I'm contemplating returning the laptop for another.

I have Dell Vostro V131 that I recently formatted. Now I have Windows 7 enterprise version. However, two of three USB ports did not work. I downloaded all the possible drivers that were available at Dell website. In the Device manager drivers for USB controller and one 'unidentified device' are missing that anyhow are not corrected.
Also, though the drivers for biometric devices are shown to be properly installed, but the device does not work.
Furthermore, external display through VGA port could not be connected, though HDMI port is working fine.
My USB ports are black as well. I have an older printer and got message saying it should be plugged into a 2.0 port. So I tried the one on the right. My computer is windows 8.1 Inspiron 3521.

1 USB PORT AT BACK (USB 3) not working
1 USB PORT RIGHT (USB 3) not working
1 USB LEFT (USB 2) works
1 USB LEFT (USB 2.0/ SATA) WORKS
Why not the other. I even updated BIOS.
Looking to pick up a USB Hub and was wondering if I connect it to the USB port on the right side (not the USB/eSATA port), will it be powered?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.

When i go to the device manager and click on "Other devices" i have this device in list "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" One of which have a yellow error icon of some sort. When i double click either of them this is the message i get:

I have a Precision M4800 that has its USB ports stop working in two cases so far. First, if I use the card reader at all, it works to access files, but then when I try to eject the card, it shows neither an error nor the "safe to remove" message. the card stays in the list of drives even after it's unplugged. If another USB drive is plugged in after this, it isn't recognized.
The second case is after using an external USB 3.0 drive for a while, it can stop working. The drive shows up in the list of drives, but all the directories appear empty. Unplugging doesn't remove the drive, and new drives aren't recognized. Once this happens, shutting down the machine crashes after a few minutes with DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE in either USBSTOR.sys or O2FJ2w7x64.sys. Could this be a hardware problem? It seems like the USB controller is locking up and the other drivers are getting blamed.
I have a VGN-FW550F and i did a clean install and installed W7 Ultimate. First I had no problems, but after a while all my usb ports went crazy. It is keeps telling that the USB device cannot be recognized, even when I unplug all the USB devices.

I have had to plug my peripherals into my laptop. This is by design for the docking station. Why do I have a docking station? So that I can have an external keyboard and other peripherals permanently connected when I am in my office.
Went in device manager and searched for USB driver updates and mine are apparently up to date.
No trying a dell support chat window- let's see how long this takes....
I own a Envy Dv6 operating Windows 8.1... After one particular shut down, all my USB ports refused to work.
I checked my device manager and it showed that all my USB controllers are working properly, but under other devices three new unknown device showed up with an yellow triangle containing an exclaimation mark showed up. Right clicked and it says that the driver is not installed, but I can't seem to find any that the system is willing to recognise.Without USB ports these days, I find it difficult to function properly.
I have a E1-571 with 3 usb ports. The one on the left works but the two on the right have never worked.

I don't remember exactly what I did because it was while ago. I still like to use the laptop, but without USB its uses are quite limited.
When I plug in a device, nothing happens. It is neither powered nor recognized. All USB ports are affected.
The USB ports on my new E Port II docking are not working with my new Latitude E7240 Laptop. Full configuration of the laptop is below. Talked with Dell and they sent me a replacement docking station but the same issue surfaced. Looked at the Device Manager and no extra USB ports show up when connected to the docking station. The side laptop USB works fine when the docking station is connected.

I run the BIOS upgrade / update to the version A13 on my Dell Latitude E6410 and after that I found this problems:
. the bios logo on startup takes about to 10 seconds to load (and sometimes freeze and need to restart the machine)
. the boot menu (F12) takes 4 o 5 minutes to load
. the startup of Windows 7 64bits - SP1 takes more than 1 minute to load and some apps works slowly
. the 2 usb ports on the right side doesnt work after the upgrade
Can return to other version of BIOS (I think that the previous version was A08 or A09)?
I recently purchased a new XPS15 laptop. Everything works fine so far except I am having problems with the USB ports. I have tried multiple flash drives including some with activity lights. None of the drives have been found by windows and there are no other hardware problems. The drives with activity lights just flash continuously.
I have checked online and can't find any newer drivers to try and Dell PC Checkup finds no problems.
I would like very much for the USB ports (or at least one of them) to stay on when the computer is in sleep. I travel frequently and hotel rooms have limited power and I would like to keep my mobile phone plugged into the laptop. I've seen you answer a few questions on USB limitations and settings...
