Dell Vostro 3750 :: Battery Charging Enabled / Disabled?
Apr 2, 2013
I bought a Vostro 3750 last year for my wife and it didn't get used except twice. I never paid much attention to it until I turned it on this morning. I noticed the battery light blinks one white and 4 red signifying it was not charging. How do I enable battery charging on this model? I checked the documentation and did not see anything there. I guessing its the FN + one other key?

Every time I start up my computer I get the error message "battery charging disabled. Please shut down and wait for system to cool." Or something along those lines with options to press F1 and continue rebooting and F2 to go another menu. I can press F1 and my computer will reboot but the battery light is constantly flashing orange and I have to be plugged into my charger. I've tried looking at the battery meter and running a diagnostic test on my battery and they came out fine but something is up with my battery.

I enabled and disable smart charging. The charger works fine. The computer works fine. I just dont understand why the battery wont charge. I am guessing its a setting I cant find.

I recently purchased dell 15R 5520 inspiron. After 4 months of usage suddenly few days back the system showed popup message that the battery charging is disabled . So I had contacted the customer service centre and after one hour they concluded that battery be replaced. They sent a new battery for replacement but replacing with new battery showed me the same message of battery charging disabled.

For some reason when i press on the FN+F4 or F5 this brings up the small display showing the brightness level but it will only move the level one or two notches in either direction. It will not adjust the brightness of the LCD display on the laptop at all.

I'm experiencing very strange problem with my Dell Vostro 3750. This machine is equipped with USB 2.0 capable USB ports and USB 3.0 capable ports. During the power-up any USB devices (or even multiple devices via hub) can be connected to the USB 2.0 capable port. However if even a single device is connected to one of the USB 3.0 capable ports, the system doesn't start.
I've reported the problem on the Linux kernel related lists: 59561
But the only answer was, that I should report it to Dell suggesting fixing of BIOS. Maybe this is a BIOS related problem, but Windows 7 starts on the same hardware configuration without problems.
As I'm mainly using Linux for my work, two USB ports are practically useless for me, I have to connect all my USB stuff via hubs to USB 2.0 ports.
My current BIOS (after last BIOS upgrade) is:
DMI: Dell Inc. Dell System Vostro 3750/0VP036, BIOS A12 02/22/2012

I have a Dell Vostro 1520 supplied to me direct from Dell. I have always used the laptop on the mains adaptor until recently when I needed to run it off the battery and found it not to work. On the front of the laptop the battery charge light flashes from orange to blue continuously. The laptop still runs ok from the mains adaptor so I am guessing either the battery or the adaptor are faulty in some way, although the adaptor looks fine and fits snugly into the mains port on the laptop I have heard mainly people complaining on forums that they have had problems with their adaptors with no sign of damage to it. Obviously I don't want to replace the adaptor if it's a battery problem and vise versa. I have done the laptop self test on the battery which just comes up with a general battery fault because it has no charge. What the orange to blue flashing light indicates.

I have a Dell Vostro 1710 laptop that was purchased in December 2008.
I am currently having problems however with the battery/charger. The battery does not charge except when I first plug it in. The Power Meter icon shows that it is charging but only for up to 10 seconds, then the message then goes to "On AC Power"
I first noticed that the battery icon on the taskbar in Windows XP PRo SP3 was saying "ONn AC Power" but not charging. Sure enough, it wasn't charging. My colleague who has the same laptop purchased at the same order but does not have an issue.
I have done all the things you normally do to troubleshoot a battery including reboot, check for software updates, swap the battery with my colleague, swap AC adapter, even replace the battery with a new one yet I still have that issue.
I have now noticed that it doesn't appear to be anything to do with Windows at all as when I power it down, plugging the charger in brings the charging light on for approximately 10 seconds, then the light goes out and the laptop doesn't charge.
This morning I tried a different battery that does charge into my laptop and had the same issue, which discounts it being a battery issue I think. I also tried downloading updated drivers from this website but again no joy.

After I buy new computer Dell Vostro 5470 I found there is no option to set the highest level of battery charging when you are using computer most time with AC. Does Dell have program for managing this? For example I want have battery between 20-70% of capacity. I am inserting JPEG i got installed just this program for really easy settings...

I've got a new Dell XPS 15 four days ago. I've been having a lot of issues with its internal mSSD drive. The model I ordered has a regular 1TB hard disk and a 128 SSD. I was quite surprised to discover that the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (that allow faster data access by using the SSD as cache) is not enabled by default. I tried to enable it but no success. An "unknown error" message box showed up when I attempted to do so. That was really strange, considering that the only thing that I've done so far in my computer was installing MS Office and Google Chrome.I contacted the tech support three days ago and I was told to reset my computer to factory default and try again. After a long wait for system restoration I enabled the acceleration mode in the Intel Rapid Storage software.
Everything proceeded according to expected, but when I rebooted my computer it failed to detect any bootable device. I can't even access the system restoration by pressing F8 during initialization now. especially when we consider that this shouldn't be happening in a premium $1,999 model. Also, shouldn't this KEY feature (caching with SSD) be enabled out of the box?

I have an older Inspiron 6400 (looks like the 1505) that isn't charging the battery. The bios indicates that the battery is charging, and that it is performing normally. There isn't a red flashing battery indicator, but when the laptop is powered on there isn't any "green light" indication of the battery, either. The AC adapter performs normally ( Charger is a PA10 (90watt) and it works fine on my D800, and charges that battery normally).
What I don't understand is why the BIOS indicates the battery is charging and that the battery is performing normally. However, when I have the system up and running there isn't a green battery indicator light on the button strip. Let me clarify that statement. During the initial boot phase of start-up there is the green indicator light on the button strip, but as the OS finishes loading this light goes out and the battery doesn't charge.
Could this be caused by a faulty Bios update, or is it something with the battery charging circuit of the motherboard? The laptop operates normally when using the AC adapter, just no indication of the battery charging when the OS is fully loaded. OS is Windows XP Pro (SP3).

My Laptop is 1 year and 5 months old. There are 2 problems I am facing with my battery:
1) When it is charging, at around 86% level, it stops charging and I see an orange light blinking at the battery icon and it continues to blink unless I turn the power off and allow the battery to discharge for a while.
2) at around 45% to 50% level, the battery level suddenly drops to 7% level and then I have to charge again.
Because of these issues I now use my laptop as a desktop. It is always plugged in and I use the option of "Stop Charging" in the windows power settings. how to solve the problem.

I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.

My laptop is Dell's new machine - Vostro 5470. It was shipped with windows 8 OEM OS but I downgraded it to my own win 7 ultimate with full format. I've downloaded and installed all compatible driver for this laptop with 7.
I hate the auto-adjustment of screen backlight according to the brightness of the background, so I googled and knew that I can disable Dell Intelligent Display to avoid it. The problem is, even I unchecked the Dell Intelligent Display in Dell's battery settings, the auto-adjustment kept going on.
I sought through the battery settings of windows and dell but none of them could kill the auto-adjustment. Is there any other way to kill it? It's really a stupid design that dims backlight when looking at BLACK pages. It's all black....

My Vostro 1000 has recently been failing to charge the battery. There's no adapter warning, no battery warning, nothing. It'll indicate that it's charging normally, so I will leave it overnight to charge only to find it deader than a doornail the following day. I typically shut it down when I'm not using it, so it's charging with the power off anyway.
The battery is a nine cell Rayovac COM 10025 and the chargers are both Dell PA-90s. I know one of the chargers has a break in the communication line, but I can still get it to charge the battery if I hold the wire just right as I put the plug into the computer. The other charger, which is my main one, seems to work OK.
When this happens, the laptop will not charge the battery at all until I pop the battery out and back in. The battery is only three months old, so I shouldn't be having trouble with it. The last battery, which had to be replaced under warranty, was the same model and had lost 2/3 of its capacity in less than a year.

I have a Dell Vostro 3700 which has developed a fault, it will not charge the battery, and windows just shows as "plugged in, not charging.".I have done my research the past few days so I will clear up the following;I have updated BIOS and installed the Dell Battery Manager in order to activate charging as I know it can be disabled.
I have been in the BIOS menu in order to search for an option to supposedly disable/enable battery charging but there is no option in there (unless I missed it, but I have checked several times).BIOS states "adapter type" to be "unknown" and when laptop is first turned on I get a warning to say the adapter cannot be determined and the battery may not charge (which I am assuming leads to the problem).
I have another dell laptop (Studio 1735) that uses the exact same adapter type. Both adapters work and charge in my 1735, both don't work in the Vostro (which I assume eliminates the adapter as a suspect).I have purchased 2 new batteries off eBay, one genuine that is supposedly new although slightly used, and another brand new rip off, all 3 of the batteries will not charge (which I assume eliminates the batteries as suspect)

last night i was working on my laptop, i realize my battery is low. so, i put it for charging..after a while i realized the battery is 75% charged so I disconnect it. and my laptop switches off.
later the laptop refused to turn on...so i reconnected the charger and the laptop turned on with the light that displays charging status (white light near the screen-keyboard intersection) starts flickering in a cycle of 5 times...4 times orange and 1 time white...and this cycle continues till i use the laptop.
and this message is displayed when i go to BATTERY HEALTH option "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature" my laptop is outta warranty.

I am using Dell XPS 15 L502x model from past 18 months. Suddenly I noticed mu battery indicator is blinking in orange and white color while it was charging. So just opened More Power options and found that "Battery is temporarily disabled" message. So shut down my device and opened the battery and again insert it. Then I try to switch on my device and found that battery is temporarily disabled due to high temperature but it was in normal room temperature.
So I start observing the issue and found that while the device charging level reached to 98 -99 %, it starts blinking. if I turned off battery charging then when it reached to 94-92 % level it start behaving as a normal condition and also blinking is stopped. The device has a 9 cell battery in it and still I'm getting more than 4 hours of back up in normal working load.

I recently purchased Dell Inspiron 3542 (Nov14), and I'm getting a battery error when my house is a bit cold."Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to the operational temperature"...This message shows up at bios check and only option is for me to press f2 to enter bios, which doesn't give me any other option. This occurs very frequently, and I never saw such an issue with any other laptop I have owned.
To test, I removed the battery and ran the PC plugged in -- and it worked just fine. Is there a way to prevent this message from showing up and allowing me to use the laptop?

My E1705 battery refuses to charge. I had a bum power adapter which I had replaced. Got the new one today and it still won't charge my battery.
What occurs is that I plug in the power and the battery icon in Win7 indicates it is charging. The charging animation in Win7 continues until your battery is charged. But in my case after about 30sec the animation stops, and show a quarter charge and never fully charges.
This indicates a faulty battery I'm assuming? It wouldn't be the power port would it?
