Dell :: Were You Asked To Return Your 90Watt Adapter When You Got The 130Watt?
Apr 30, 2010I'm just wondering as Dell wants me to return the 90Watt. Not a big deal, but I'm wondering if it's just me or not.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just requested refund for my laptop and booked an appointment for the collection on 12-May-09.
I have looked many threads in this forum and everyone said the label of return authorization code has to be printed off and stick it on the box.
But I asked for that thing on the phone and they said I do not need to do this, they told me what all I have to do is just put everything back to the original box and wait for someone to collect it, and then the system will check it for me to give me back the money.
I have made another call to confirm this and she told me the same thing
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and my friend has a Latitude D820.
Tonight she accidentally plugged my power adapter into her laptop. A few hours later, she noticed that her laptop indicated that it wasn't plugged in, and that's when we realized that she had accidentally used my adapter instead of hers.
Now my adapter doesn't work at all. We've tried the adapter with both our laptops with different outlets with the same problem, so we know it's the adapter. The green light also doesn't come on when it's plugged in anymore.
Did plugging my adapter into her laptop somehow screw up my adapter, or could this just be a coincidence? Is there any way to fix the adapter or at least figure out what the problem is? And if I have to purchase a new adapter, do the universal ones they sell at retail electronics stores work OK? I would order one from Dell but I'm working on a project now and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.
It seems as if they only refund products that are within the 21 days after the order. But my laptop, specifically the studio 1558, had to be delayed, and I received it after the 21 days. Now I've had this laptop for 5 days and there was at least one random shutdown a day, which seems to be a very common problem to many people with this particular laptop.
Is there a way to refund this laptop?
Or are there exceptions?
They did in fact asked me whether I still wanted to resume the order the laptop, as they were waiting for a piece of hardware about 2-3 weeks after i placed the order; however, this seems like a coincidence or an extremely poor business tactic, as they probably have known about this flaw.
I have posted this before, but I am getting really tired of Dell's customer service (after 2 non working units!) and this one was my screw up
The Studio 17 is too bulky and heavy; I wouldnt mind getting a 15 with the same specs or even an inspiron or Vostro-
There are several good deals with Vostros- are there any advantages to the Vostro line?
So How would I go about getting Dell to accept a return of the studio w/o a restocking fee---
Could I just tell them that the bottom and top of the computer get exceedingly hot and the machine randomly turns on and off?
I have been using my new studio 17 for the last three days had several questions that I would appreciate input on. First my MO: Most of my laptop computing is word processing, net surfing, picture stuff, occasional spreadsheet, occasional movie, no gaming. Most of my laptop use is sitting up in bed with the machine on my lap, balanced on my right leg, or set down on the bed to my right side, or sitting in the recliner with the unit on my lap, or on the back deck with unit on my lap. Only travel with the laptop 1-3 times per year (car travel).
I'm coming from a 2001 dell latitude 14" machine which has been stone cold reliable but of course severely outdated. I'm old and not concerned with the style or look of a computer, I have old eyes and need easy to read screens and font sizes. I tend to buy more computer than I need initially and keep it for many years past when people would normally upgrade. I tend to be more concerned with ergonomics, user friendliness, and robustness of design than I am with processor speed, video cards, memory etc. The one exception here is I really like/need a bright clear display.
My studio 17 is configured with the T6400, 4gb ram, backlite keyboard, wled 1440x900 display, ATI HD 3650 etc.
Initial impressions
Good: It is of course much faster than my 2001 dell, especially on boot up and shut down. The clarity and brightness of the display is a beautiful thing and the viewing angles are good as well. I pulled up an instant movie from netflix and it is very impressive, although the movie didn't play fullscreen as there was about an inch of unused screen on either side of the movie. The backlite keyboard is nice.
Uncertain:
- Maybe it is my imagination but the keyboard on this thing seems squishy. Almost like it is uneven and set too low in the chassis. The keys have very little tactile feedback. A number of times now I've been flying along wordprocessing and find that even though I pressed the key the entry was never made.
- There is quite a bit of flex in the screen it seems. I learned real quick to make sure to grasp the screen right in the middle when closing/opening the lid. It's a bit disconcerting to see the dell symbol on the back of the lid distort when the screen flexes as you close the lid if you don't grasp it right in the middle.
- There are no standoffs at the top of the screen to keep it from contacting the palm rests when the lid is closed. Picking the machine up with one hand in the center front as I normally do results in the lid flexing and touching the palm rest in the camera/mic area at the top of the display.
- While there is a boatload of screen real estate, the icons/text are small which is not good at all. Can these be increased in size without loosing any clarity? I need all aspects of the display - icons, text, menus, etc bumped up in size a bit.
- While I like the 17" screen, and I thought the number pad would be nice to have, I really dislike that the it causes the alpha keyboard and corresponding touch pad to be offset to the left of the chassis. The touch pad obviously has to be centered relative to the alpha keyboard for proper word processing and data entry. This is not that big of an issue when the machine is used on the desk but it causes an imbalance when used on the lap. In order to use the machine with keyboard/touchpad centered the whole machine has to be shifted to the right which causes the right side to tip over to the right. In short it makes it very awkward to use this machine on anything other than a desk. In addition, I think compounding this lap unfriendly nature is the whole gigantic hinge design and how deep this laptop is.
I fully understand that this machine is marketed as a "desktop replacement" and maybe I would be better served with a 15" model. What would be really nice though is to have the 17" screen, lose the number pad, and center the alpha keyboard and touchpad in the center of the chassis. This would make laptop computer more user friendly.
I just got the M1730 last week, but I found a few detects such as lighting problems on my screen when it is pitch black.
The bottom and top parts have light leaking ( I'm guessing thats what you call it ). Also when I move my laptop, i see two circles appearing on my screen (Same effect as if you touched the screen)..
They disappear after like 5 seconds, but it gets annoying seeing them whenever you move your laptop.
i just checked dell.ca, now they have red one and 32GB ssd. i haven't received my dell mini, i called dell, they say my order is already shipped. how do i change or make return and order the new one?

I ordered a Dell PC 2 weeks ago. It has been 'In Production' for 2 weeks now. I phoned CS today and I was transferred a total 8 times due to no one being able to match my Name with my order number.
I finally get through and they tell me that a part was on back order (i never received any emails about this and no notification on my confirmed order page before I checked out) .....
I ordered it on May 10th and shipped May 16th. I was expecting it to take at least another week.
I was hoping that before it went into the shipping stage I could contact my sales rep and replace the single 5870 with crossfire 5870's when they came out.
Lo and behold, the day after my order is passed the line of return, the cards are released.
I ordered another M17x with crossfire cards later that Monday and now that order has an EDD of June 4th.
My predicament, can I open my first M17x and fiddle around with it for a few days to see if a single 5870 is all I need, and then return it if is not as much as i need, without having to pay a restocking fee?
I received this dell laptop on 3rd of march 2009 and ever since I got this laptop, my life has been a living hell. I've written about my problems before:
Vostro 1510 - touchpad/keyboard problems
Basically, I've wasted plenty of time chatting with dell representatives and they have already replaced my touchpad (twice), heat sink, fan, motherboard, keyboard in such a short span.
I've tried switching to different operating systems and it hasn't helped me in any way. Now, when I try to contact dell representatives, they tell me that its not a hardware problem since the hardware has already been replaced and so they just give me the same software solutions (reinstall os, reinstall drivers) as before without even listening to my problems. One time this representative even cut off the line. Now what I want to ask is : can i return this laptop now ? I know that my 21 day period is over but my work is really suffering right now because of this laptop.
Does the Dell Outlet offer the same 21-day return policy as the regular dell online store?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI keep reading in this thread about Dell's no questions asked 21 day return policy. Dell.com is stating returns will have a 15% restocking fee in addition to shipping charges.
I'm assuming this does not apply if there is a problem with the system. However, if it's under warranty, won't they just send a tech out instead of accepting the return?
Has anyone completed a return with the last month or so?
If so, can you let us know how it went?
I know here is for laptop, but I like to ask some question?
I have purchased a Dell Monitor on UK Dell website, and I was going to cancel the order but it was too late to cancel because It has been shipped,
so I have went to Dell return policy online and it said after recieve the product, must contact customer service in 7 days for arrange return collection and refund will be given after the Item is been receive by Dell
1. The bought system is on the name of a Dell employee. So is it possible 4 me 2 return it?
2. Does Dell give 100% money back in this case?
The reason why I want 2 return it is that the employee thru which the system was ordered messed up the upgrades and also cheated me. When I received the system, there were three missing upgrades out of the eight upgrades ordered:
1. I had ordered a Topo Black Colour. I got Jet Black.
2. I had ordered 7200 rpm drive. I got the 5400 one.
3. I had ordered 5300 Wifi Card. I got the 5100 one .....
I've order a Alienware MX17 r2 and return it within the 30 days return policy. First it's very heavy my wife can hardly lift it up never mind carry it around then I don’t really play games that much It had only one video card with the 920 processor the only think I liked it was the screen 17’ LED RGB So after reading some info regarding the Studio XPS 16-47 I returned the Mx17 and order the 1647 with RGB LED (not received as yet) the MX17 r2 cost me $3500.00 mean time I got refunded only $ 3150.00
Dell took 10% from me $ 350.00 I’m pretty P_OFF that it is a lot of money I’m not a rich man I’ve returned another laptop before within the 30 days and Dell give me a full refund. When I called customer care and complain I was told that the finance department would look into and it would take 3 business days before I should call back.
I’ll be calling on Monday or Tuesday and if Dell it’s not going to refund me the rest of my money I don’t know what I should do next if tell them to stop the order of my new Studio or what Even if I do that I’m out of $ 350.00 with no computer. I live in Canada and this is the dell site that I've read ...
I just sent back a lemon of a XPS 1340 to Dell, got the confirmation that they received my return, and they noted the credit will appear on my statement up to 30 business days.....................

I dont want or need this though, but he didn't realise that of course, an now i want to send it back for a refund without having to pay delivery & restocking?
if that's applicable. I did email my contact in dell who put the order through, before the 2 parcels were sent out but she didn't get back to me [still hasn't ]
but I am understanding that I can send back the bag no questions and have a full refund as long as it's before 7 days? that is in 2 days time.
I've had my laptop for under a year and my battery is much worse than when I first got it. I seem to recall reading about some feature of the xps laptops that I may return the battery within 1 year, no questions asked. When I called up they said I would need to call back when I'm in front of the computer. Is anyone aware of the battery return policy for xps laptops?
They told me if there's a defect I could exchange it within a year (afterwards no luck.) I'm a bit worried that they'll say this is just normal use, even though the dell website says battery decline is normal after a year.
When you recieve a laptop from dell brand new you turn it on it goes through
welcome options and account creation after that you are welcomed to windows with all drivers installed and fully up to date.
I recently took advantage of a 20% off coupon for computers from the Dell Outlet.
I ordered a Studio XPS 1640 that included a 128GB solid state hard drive.
Shortly after the computer arrived I started having weird problems. At first I thought it was because I had installed the Windows 7 RC, but eventually I tried re-installing Vista and the same problems were happening (in other words, I spent a lot of time on this). I began to suspect a hard drive problem.
Finally, I called Dell support and while I was on the phone (for over an hour) the hard drive failed. OK...that was Monday and she sent me a replacement hard drive that arrived yesterday.
I installed the new hard drive and the first thing I did was go into the BIOS and it recognized the hard drive, so all was good so far. Next I went into the diagnostic and it came up with a hard drive error. I called Dell and after trying some diagnostics and re-seating the hard drive it was clear that the hard drive wasn't working - it was no longer even showing up in the BIOS .....

I really want the Envy 14. but I really need a laptop. but I REALLY want the Envy 14...
how is HP with their return policy? Have any of you ever had any bad experiences with returning a laptop to them?
if you haven't guessed, I'm thinking of ordering a laptop now (probably the dm4t) to use for the next month, returning it, and ordering the 14 when it is released.
I am trying to get some basic information on return policies from some different places that sell HP notebooks.
Since I live over three hours driving distance one way from any major electronics store that may carry the HP Envy 15 (such as Best Buy) I am left with the only alternative to see about purchasing a computer online. I'm not completely sure, however, that it will completely fit my needs exactly. So I am trying to find out where I might be able to order an Envy 15 but also have some reassurance that if I do wish to return it for a refund I can do so within a reasonable time.
Sometimes it's hard to tell what places have for their refund policy, especially online. Again, I'd have to be sure that the place offers return for refund and not just return for replacement.
i ordered an HDX16t for college recently, and I realized I didn't order it with the backlit keyboard I wanted.. yeah i was dumb but college is still a month away so when it arrives, would it be free for me to return it ?? i also used a coupon code NBZ2897 which gives $250 off.. so when the laptop comes the coupon will be expired. does that mean i have to pay that extra? or can i just return it and just pay the extra $50 for the backlit keyboard, whether a backlit keyboard is worth all this trouble are welcome too haha i mean i dont gota look at the keyboard when i type but i still think having 1 would be nice
View 6 Replies View Relatedlast night I spilled some water ( ) on my recently bought dell studio 17 laptop. It was mostly over the mouse finger pad and a little over the space bar.
It was turned on and plugged into the wall. The screen froze an nothing worked. I unplugged it from the wall and unplugged the battery and tried to tip the water out.
I left it in a tilted position overnight. It still wont turn on but when the battery goes on the white light on the side turns on.
Anyways I just wanted to get some advice on what to do. I called the Dell tech support but they were closed. If i send it in how long does that usually take and how much should i expect to pay for this type of problem?
I have until Monday to return my AA1 to walmart. So far I do like it and find the netbook really useful. I'm debating whether to return it and spend 170 bucks more for the hp minii 2140. The AA1's keyboard IS a little cramped, but I can still type good on it.
As biased AA1 owners, what do you think and what made you choose the AA1 over others?
I've never seen this before. recently (and I mean within the last few days) my laptop has picked up this strange quirk that it resets its system time to 10/10/10 10:10am. I've done a full virus scan (microsoft security essentials) and turned up nothing - a clean system. Windows 7, not that much crap on it, mostly games. Fully updated.Â
Anyway, part of me is thinking cmos battery, but the paranoid side is reformatting and reinstalling anyway, as much as I hate to do it again. My question is, is this the default time the bios will reset to in the event of a bad cmos battery? Or have I maybe picked something up I haven't detected.
At any rate I've had this machine for less than a year, I find it highly unusual that the cmos battery would die so quickly. I have ancient desktops that are still ticking.Â
