Dell XPS L502X :: Sleeps Automatically In The Middle Of Working?
Mar 27, 2013
I am just finding it annoying that while I'm in the middle of working on my laptop, it just starts to sleep. I then have to furiously move the track pad around to get it to turn back on. It does this randomly and I'm not sure what's wrong what it. My computer has been fine since I bought it.
I own a Dell XPS L502x. For the past couple of months, if I reboot or close the laptop lid, the touchpad is automatically disabled and I have to enable it to use it again. It never used to do this. Is there a way to shut off or 'disable' this automatic disabling action?
However, a problem appeared recently: the laptop seems to overheat and it shuts down automatically when the temperature rises a lot. I installed SpeedFan to check it and see whether it is abnormally high. Sometimes it reaches about 80-90 degrees on the 4 cores and the hard disk. Slightly before it started shutting down, the fan became very loud and it switches on and off continuously. So I don't know where the problem started.
Today I received my L540 and I'm installing all the drivers at the moment. After I installed the trackpad/point drivers I disabled the trackpad. But now I noticed that the middle mouse button isn't working.
Also is there an easy way to get all the drivers I'm missing at once? I don't have a CD.
I was having sound issues that I fixed by updating my BIOS from the website's drivers. However now I can no longer use the middle click button. I used this for opening new tabs and now it doesnt even work for scrolling either. I have auto scroll enabled in firefox and I have confirmed that it does not work in IE either. I went to control panel -> Mouse and there is not even an option for a middle button.
I am one of the lucky ones who just got the X1 Carbon Touch (after a 2 month wait).
Touch screen is VERY spotty. Will just stop working. All the time. Even in the middle of gestures.
I found that by going to the upper right corner touch will start working again, and then it'll stop moments later in the middle of an activity.
This is Windows 8, of course. I have used plenty of other Windows 8 devices so I'm not a novice. I have never seen this behavior. Is this a driver problem? A setting I don't know about (some special Lenovo thing?). I am hoping its not hardware. The fact that touching the upper right corner enables things for awhile seems to indicate its not hardware but not certain.
It's an issue that shows up now and then and I can't figure it out.
WinXP Pro, SP3+, 2.26GHz (does it at stock 1.7GHz too), 2GB DDR,
I have all Sleep options turned off in Power Settings....
I leave it on and plugged it most all the time, can get up in the Morning and its a Black screen and nothing I hit wakes it up. HD and other lights are on...but no waking up.
When my Win 7 arrives, I'll probably upgrade to a much larger HD and install it and the problem should be gone. (I have the RC installed on an old Athlon XPM Overclocked Desktop with 2GB Memory, GF6600GT Video - and it works great! And always wakes up!)
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas....its not like there are any newer drivers for these things...
I'm not sure if mt drivers are old, but my touch screen works sometimes then completely stops working and when I try to calibrate it, it tells me that there's no N-Trig duosense hardware on my computer. It says I DO have the hardware when it's in a 'working stage' though. Every time I try to download a driver, it says 'fatal error.'
Is there anyway to get the TouchPad features for Windows 8 on a XPS 15 L502x? Used them on a Windows 8 Laptop today, and i want them too! I tried installing the Dell Windows 7 Drivers, and the original Synaptics Drivers.. both didn't work really hate this touchpad and their existing drivers..
I have a XPS 15 L502x.... and sometime in the past week, my touch screen has stopped responding completely. I've tried everything i can think of... all the settings i can find relating to touch input appear to be correct, etc, but no luck. I'm usually decently ok at fixing the problems my computer has on my own through a little internet research, but either no one's had this problem and posted about it or its buried many pages down in google.
I dont have time to go through the phone tech support hassle for another few days and i miss being able to use the touch screen function. Not that it was ever super-functional to begin with, but it was nice for scrolling and such ....
I had been using my DVD/Bluray drive but after a reinstall of windows 7 I am not able to access the DVD / Bluray drive. or rather I am able to access it after re-installing the driver and then after I take out the disk in the drive again the drive becomes unrecongnizeable
I reinstalled the firmware PLDS DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo Firmware Update(SE2_CD11.zip ) from Dell support site but this did not work.
The only way I can get it to work is by uninstalling the device, rebooting and when it starts up again, it reinstall the driver and the drive works. A thing to note is that this also does not work every time.
How to set up so that tap with two fingers on the touchpad will preform like the middle button on a mouse. Can find that setting in the dell touchpad program. I am on a dell latitude e7240
I have had this problem for a while. I used to have Vista installed on my 1420, it had taken me a long time to find a 64bit driver for the ALPS touchpad that featured middle click (when you click both buttons, it registers as a middle click).
Now, I am on Windows 7, all Vista 64 bit drivers for the ALPS work with Windows 7, but I am having trouble finding the driver that I had used with Vista64 that allowed me to use middle click.
I have searched on Dell's driver page and literally installed almost every driver they have for ALPS touchpads. Almost all of them have the ability to use the feature middle click, but they never work. I was wondering if there are any 1420 owners out there that have, or know where one could find a 64 bit driver that allows me to use middle click?
I am trying to figure out if my video card has gone bad on my 6400 and wanted to know if can be replaced. I have a nvidia 7200 256 mb gpu.. I am running into a problem where my screen just goes black in the middle of everything. The problem also occurs when hooking the laptop up to a monitor. Initially I thought I had a bad inverter board and bad video drivers, both have been replaced but the problem still persist. I ran the diagnostics and the screen went black during the video check. I have to reboot the pc to get the screen back on then the problem happens again.
I have an Inspiron N5050 which has a couple of issues. First issue is the cursor will move to other parts of the screen (where the mouse is) while in the middle typing. The laptop is setup with both Win 7 & 8 and it happens in both Windows versions. How to correct this or should I chuck this up to typical Dell poor quality control??
I've run my Lenovo laptops (on a T510 now) for years using the middle button (the "scroll" button) as a plain old middle mouse button. The ultranav tool has always had an option to make it act like a MMB, with no fancy scroll function, etc.
I just bought a new W540, and found, much to my distress, that such an option doesn't seem to exist on the W540! This is very important to me as I run Cygwin X server and rely on the middle mouse button to to paste in Xterms and other X apps. This is a real showstopper for me!
I noticed a "three finger tap" function that's supposed to act as a MMB. But it doesn't seem to work in Cygwin X. Plus, it's not the best solution.
Is there any way to do this with the new Ultranav drivers?
I have a 3000 N200 0769 with a black line running vertical in the middle and the monitor is fuzzy. How can I tell if its the LCD screen itself or the cable. The unit is almost 4 years old.
I would like to use the trackpoint as a proper middle click instead of the (also useful) proprietary scroll mode. Basically same problem as discussed here: [URL] ......
However that article seems a little old. The synaptics control panel on the W540 seems to be markedly different and I cannot for the life of me find out where to disable that or set the middle click to be a regular middle click.
The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

XPS 13.... I am using an Apple Time Capsule/Airport as router, but it happens with all wi-fi connections. I have not changed any settings, and the network is saved and set to auto-connect. It does not though. I have to manually select and click connect, then it eventually does.
My dell Inspiron N4030 turns off automatically without any warning message and without system shut-down message after some random amount of time. Whenever I turn on the laptop it will work about 10 minutes and then turns off "boom!" and as I restart will work for 7-8 minutes and again turns off. If I keep on restarting it again and again without giving it rest then the working time keeps on decreasing...
I have an INSPIRON N5010 laptop (OUT OF WARRANTY) with 1 GB ATI GRAPHICS CARD, my laptop is getting switched off on its own after a continuous use of 20-30 mins, even while running diagnostic or any other boot options also the same thing is happening, I have cleaned all the air vents so no heating problem is there externally.
I have a DELL XPS L521X running Windows 10 technical preview.
I have been having an issue for a while that the computer automatically resumes from standby at seemingly random times. As of late, it is also staying on indefinitely (or until a low battery event at least), despite my settings in Power Options that specify standby after a given amount of time.
This happens when it is plugged in or not, and is (of course) particularly annoying when it is unplugged and in a case that isn't ventilated.
I have checked the system and application event logs, and don't see the kernel-power event when the system resumed, but I don't see any information on why it did so.
Also worth noting: I checked my LAN and WIFI adapter power management settings, and the "allow this device to wake the computer" box is greyed out.
specifically what hardware or software is causing a resume event? Do you know how to ensure that the computer sleeps after a specified period of time when on battery?
i have dell N5010 laptop.it shuts down automatically whenever i restart the windows.i can't even install any new operating system as it turns off automatically.i am sure that it is not due to heat. but after 20 minutes it becomes normal..my laptop configuration:
