My hp envy can't detect the external monitor. I tried to re - install the graphic drivers (hd 4600 / Geforce 740m)...
It used to work and all of a sudden it stopped. My only assumption is that the HDMI output itself is not functioning.
Windows 8.1 Pro does not recognize Touchsmart. This work like a mouse when I click on the display. In properties of system, says that won't have a pen and touch.

I just got an HP Envy, 17 inch, and I have an HP 25 inch monitor I would like to connect to it. It has the "old style" connector which was supported on my old HP Entertainment Notebook. Not on the new one! What kind of adaptor do I need to get? I do have an HDMI port on the left side of my laptop. Do I need just a regular HDMI cable?

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. It says my drivers are up to date...but I don't even know what I should be looking for. Do I need to install something or buy some sort of adapter?
I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
I have a latitude E6430s running windows 7. I have it docked using a dell docking station, and have 2 dell monitors connected using dvi. With this configuration if I have the 2 monitors running I can't get any picture on the laptop screen. I wanted to be able to use all 3 screens at the same time is this even possible, how to have all 3 screen working at the same time.

Hp Envy 6t-1000 has a green tint to the monitor. There seems to be no black color. I ran the system diagnostics and everything passes. If I tyr the color palette check it fails. I have updated the video drivers, updated the BIOS, replaced the monitor cable and run a system recovery using the disks provided by HP. All to no avail. I can attach an extrenal monitor, either HDMI or USB, and it works. Only the built in display has the green tint and lack of black palette.

I tried connecting an external monitor to the laptop using an HDMI cable from the laptop to an LG L246WPQ display. The problem is that 10-15% of the left side of the laptop screen content does not appear on the external monitor. Missing from the external monitor is the word "Start" in the upper left corner along with roughly the 2 leftmost columns of tiles. This occurs in both "Duplicate display" or "Only display on screen 2" modes. This is using a resolution of 1680x1050 which both the laptop and the LG appear to support. Using the touch screen on the laptop I can scroll the tiles to the right and see the missing leftmost columns. The information that is displayed on the external monitor begins as far left as that monitor will display. In other words, there is no black/blank area on the left. Except for the missing information on the left side, the content of the rest of the external monitor looks fine. I updated the laptop's video driver to the latest on HP.COM. No change in behavior. I tried every option I could find on the LG OnScreenDisplay, but nothing made the display any better.

For the past several days a narrow horizontal line appears in the lower part of the screen on my Envy dv7 laptop - Windows 8, Intel i5 processor - that I purchased in Janurary 2013.The line flickers in various colors and is very annoying. I pulled up the BIOS screen and the line does not appear. I don't have another monitor to plug into, so I can't run that test. Everything else is functioning normally.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition running Windows 7. Its card reader is not working. When I insert an SD card, I get a message that the device is not installed properly. Windows prompts me to update the driver, so I have let it, but it cannot find the driver. In the Device Manager, with the SD card inserted, it shows under "Other devices" a "Disk drive" with a yellow "!" symbol. The device status reads:
"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."
I have tried to update the driver from there, but again no driver is reported to be found.
By the way, the Device Manager says that the Realtek PCIE CardReader is working properly. I have updated its driver using sp66065.exe, but there is no difference. The card reader is still not reading, nor is there a drive letter showing up for the inserted card.
If I disable the Realtek PCIE CardReader, then the "Other devices," "Disk drive" in the Device Manager goes away. But the card reader is not functioning all the same. If I enable the card reader, the same error returns with a yellow '!" under the "Other devices," "Disk drive" in the Device Manager,
I purchased my laptop about two years ago. A few days ago, the screen suddenly dies, and on boot, it flickers a few times with the proper display, but then goes blank. The backlight seems to remain on though. When I use an external monitor with the HDMI port, the external monitor works fine, however the laptop screen remains blank. I'll usually close the lid to put it into sleep mode when I have to do something else. But when I open it back up, it has the "Start windows normally or safe mode" sreen. I've noticed that this only happens after a certain amount of time of being in sleep mode. If I wake it up prior to that, it works just fine. I hope that this can be resolved since this is a brand new laptop.

I wanted to downgrade my new HP ENVY 15 TouchSmart 15-j023ea to Windows 7 because it's more familiar/usual to me, but unforunately I've noticed that my laptop does not appear in HP's driver list
Also, recent Envy 15 TouchSmart models do not have windows 7 drivers (At least this is what I've seen)
My laptop came with Windows 8 Installed. I installed my windows 7 on this machine and realised I have NO drivers for it... That's the reason I came back to windows 8 right now, and try to find a solution.
I really want to downgrade to windows 7 x64. Are there any drivers for this OS?
I've had a HP Envy 15 touchsmart laptop (Windows 8 originally, windows 8.1 now) for about 2 months now and haven't had any problems, till a few hours ago i attempted to update the bios of my laptop using the hp support assistant. After the restart, the pc would no longer start up and took me to a blue screen with the error message SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Everything I have done so far short of a refresh or reset has not worked and if i could I would like to avoid both as I do not have the bandwith to go download windows 8.1 again.

It was still fine when I downloaded windows 8.1 but all of a sudden displays limited/no connectivity. I tried everything I can including resetting tcp ip settings thru command prompt, finding other drivers till someone suggested me to put my laptop back to windows 8. Still didn't fix the problem. Now, my laptop does not access wifi nor detect any wireless connection whether our home wifi, or others.
