View 2 RepliesI just did a system restore of windows 8 (clean wipe) and went through the process of reinstalling all the drivers. I installed the latest version SmartAudio (8.32.43.0). In Google hang out it said the microphone wasn't working, then I clicked on the settings and made the internal mic the default, I got good mic for 1 second. Did it again and the same thing. But this is only for a single second. In skype I tried the same thing and it is just super quite, it doesn't register on the scale unless I blow directly into the mic (so I know it's picking something up). Last week I had my upgraded from win 7 Windows 8 install working just fine with the microphone (zero problems ever before with this thing). I checked in mic properties and DB and volume are set to max. So what is it about the fresh install that is making the mic all cracked out? (I checked the SmartAudio settings too) I'm having issues with my Bluetooth mouse too(disconnects at restart and have to reinstall) and Power Manager (it doesn't show up as a toolbar anymore). P.S.. I've gone to the X220 site and downloaded the latest drivers and installed system update.

What I have:
1. 4GB usb with Windows 7 installer
2. My laptap have 1 hdd, partitioned into two
a. 97.9 GB ( where my OS is installed)
b. 200 GB (where my personal files is stored)
How to wipe out my laptap, delete partiton and delete all data and instal fresh OS, Bios etc...
my computer can't "standby" or "hibernate" I can see that option but its disabled, what can I do?
I'm downloading some drivers right now like, my wireless card drivers, ethernet drivers and some others that were lost during the reinstall.
The drivers I'm missing are:
Ethernet Controller
Video controller
Video controller (VGA compatible) ....
I got an Edge 13 with Windows Ultimate installed. I want to replace the existing disk with a SSD and I collect the windows key for the installation with jelly bean keyfinder.
The problem ist that windows does not recognize this key to activate windows. I also did not find the key on the notebook.
The key itself is valid because on the old disk Windows is activated....
Basically I am trying to install a new Samsung SSD into a W530, however, I can not get the Bios or Windows instalation to see it (when you select what drive you want to install windows on).
I can externally attach the SSD to my other laptop and see the drive. I can create partitions, format them, etc. But none of that worked my original issue.
I have also updated to the latest BIOS version, tried turning off UEFI, no luck.
What I am missing here to get this SSD to show up?
I have an SL510 thinkpad and I have just installed windows 7 professional 64x. I noticed my wifi not working and in Device Manager there are a number of 'Unknown Devices' I have 3 'Base System Device' alerts, a 'Network Controller' alert and an Unknown Device....

I have tried installing several WLAN drivers to try and get my wifi working but no good.
I fresh installed Windows 7 and installed all the drivers from Lenovo's website. Still I cannot adjust the brightness. It stays on MAX and drains the battery in 1h30min. All other F hotkeys work but not F7 & F8 for brightness control. Is this a BIOS/Drivers issue?

My Y580 should be arriving shortly. I got it on the Black Friday Special and it comes with Windows 8. I bought a SSD to replace the HDD and I am wanting to downgrade it to a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate or Pro and I have a couple questions:
How to do this for the Y580? I have not been able to locate one.
Also I am assuming I would not want to use the Windows 8 device drivers correct? Do I use the Windows 7 device drivers?
Would use the drivers from the Lenovo site or each devices specific website? I am going to try to save them on a DVD in advance and want to be prepared.
I researched I need the Intel SATA AHCI Driver for performing a clean Windows 7 installation
I tried:
1. Mobile Express Chipset SAAT AHCI controler drivers from the (a) Intel websites (b) Lenovo website and (c) extracting drivers from running system
2. tried supplying drivers on DVD/CD and USB
3. tried to integrate drivers into Windows 7 Installation using RT7Lite
4. did bios update
5. switched from AHCO to compatible mode
In any case it finds the driver as the correct one (when I click hide drivers that are not compatible, the one remains). But always displays no driver found and doesn't continue setup.
This seems to be a bug!!!
1. Is there a way to fix this and perform a clean Windows 7 installation without recovery?
2. Am I trying the wrong driver, but have to install a driver for a different device first???
I am about to replace the HDD with an SDD and there can not use recovery!
I bought a new Lenovo G510 laptop. I downloaded Windows 8.1 from Microsoft DreamSpark, and burned ISO image on a DVD disc. When I try to install it on my laptop, I receive an error (it might be wrong translated):

A media driver your computer needs is missing. This could be a DVD, USB, or Hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now.
Note: If the installation media for Windows in the DVD drive or on a USB drive, you can safely remove it for this step.
I already tried changing the following options in BIOS but no effect:
Configuration tab -> SATA Controller Mode from AHCI to Compatible
Boot tab -> Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy Support
Boot tab -> Boot Priority from UEFI First to Legacy First
Also, I tried to insert CD with drivers which was in the box, but - of course - no appropiate drivers were found.
What happened? How am I supposed to install a Windows 8.1? What should I try?
I just got my brand new Y510P and realized that is unable to start Windows. Initially it displayed error "Windows could not parse or process unattend... [...unattend.xml] for pass [oobeSystem]..."
After reboot it start displaying another message - "Windows could not complete the installation... restart the installation".
The operation system is Windows 8.1.
Looks like I'm not the only person with this problem. System recovery doesn't work, obviously (as well as graceful Lenovo tech support).
I think that the problem caused by incorrect unattend.xml file which fails to install some unnesessary software and because of this error blocks Windows from finishing the installation.
I see no other way rather than install Windows from another source. I don't want to pay for another Windows license and rather send the laptop back to Lenovo, but maybe there is another way?
I've just received my brand new Lenovo G510 and installed Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit onto it.Most of the drivers from the attached CD installed without any problems (though I was quite surprised that no newer versions were available on the Support wrbpage) but I can't install audio driver.Apparently this series is equipped in either Conexant or Realtek audio chips and the provided setup application is desigend to detect the correct chip and run the appropriate driver installation program.
The problem is that setup is not working for me. All I receive is the notification "This utility can not be used on this machine". Since there are no "orphan" audio devices in the Device Manager, I can't really tell which audio chipset is installed in my machine. I don't want to install both dirvers as it may just cause confilcts.How can I say which audio chipset is installed and install the correct driver?
I recently got this laptop and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 immediatly since it came with Windows 7. This was of course and option with the disc set that came with the laptop. Unfortunately i have encountered problems in the installation/recovery of Windows 8.1.
When the laptop is finished using the actual disc's (i say finished because it spits out disc 4 which is the last one) and is booting into the OS to do the last installing it "freezes" in the middle of "dowork.cmd". In the cmd window it tries to access a destination directory which it can't. Instead of writing it here, i'm just gonna link a picture of it:

I have a new SSD I'd like to use in my T430. Unfortunately I can't install Windows on it as the laptop doesn't recognise (?) the SSD. Before the installation starts I get the message "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable".
I tried updating the BIOS but the situation stays the same.
I was installing Linux and by mistake I wiped out the entire disk inclusing the recovery partition with windows 8 installation stuff !! Do you know if it there is any way to get it back, downlading it from somewhere and installing ? I searched on the Lenovo website but didn't find any clue....

Or do I have to download the drivers and install ExpressCache separately off of Lenovo's website... trying to stay clear of Lenovo drivers that might conflict with Intel's and NVIDIA's.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Y410P that will not boot. The BIOS only sees to PXE boot. It does not attempt to boot from the Windows 8 installation disc, or from the hard drive that I reinstalled Windows on myself. I can boot to both of these on other computers, so I know they are not the problem. I'm thinking it's BIOS or motherboard related, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

I've put the new HDD on it (tried even the same with a different HDD too), and started to instal WIN 7 64-bit from the recovery disks. I used to do it many times so far with different Lenovo laptops without any problems. But this time, a while before the end of the instalation (when processing the sdrivebackup.wim) it stops and comes with a statement: " the recovery process has been finished, please ...." (but I see that the progres bar is far awayfrom 100%) , and finishes the instalation, reboot the computer and it comes the screen with the statement from the Windows Boot Manager:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem (...)

I read a lot about the ways to solve similar problems, but they don't work on my case. The strange thing is, that I can instal WIN 8 or WIN7 from regular Windows instalation disks (not from Lenovo recovery, but from normal universal Windows instalation disks).
As I told before, I tried it in 2 different HDD disks with the same effect. It looks that the recovery instalation stops before the end without instaling some files which are missing later during starting the system.
My new DV7t Quad should be coming on Friday. Right now it is stuck in China, but I was wondering. Would it be better to keep the Windows 7 that they have install on the computer, or should I do a clean install? Right now, I have Windows 7 Ultimate running my old laptop, however, I only the disk for the 32 bit. While my Quad will be a 64 bit.
So if it would be a benefit to do a clean install, could someone explain how to do it without having a new windows 7 disk. I did order the system restore disks from HP when I bought the computer.
I have original recovery cd of Windows XP for lenovo R61/T61 models. I currently have Lenovo R61 type 8933-A32 model.
It install fine, but after that in starts randomly freezing:
- In bios I choose compatibility mode not AHCI, due to fact that Win XP SP2 don't have necessary drivers.
- I updated BIOS
- I updated all the drivers via Lenovo system update utility. (no yellow exclamation marks in manager)
- Installed SP3
- Installed Intel matrix storage driver (no effect)
Freezes are random, i cannot duplicate them. In the evenet viewer I get no errors.
To stop freeze I have to shutdown the computer.
!!!! I am curently using Linux Mint 13 Mate -> not a single problem so far. Working fine, so problem in not hardware but software related.
I have the following problem - after upgrading to Windows 7 I have only volume controls working, but not Fn+Fx key combinations.
Details are:
1) Fn key physically works - it worked on Vista
2) In order to have volume controls working I had to install Visual Studio 2010 Redistributable package
3) My BIOS version is 2.24, tried downgrading to 2.23 as well
4) System Interface Driver is installed alongwith Hotkey Support
5) Power Manager is installed
6) Tried older Vista drivers
I have a x60s (t2400, 2gb ram) as a spare laptop (also just because i really like it).i know there are more models and that the cpu is solderd onto the mainboard. if i want a t7200 cpu, can i then just replace the entire mainboard? or does that later model have diffrent cooling wich my t2400 doesnt have?
secondly i hearred the discussion about 2 or 4gbs of ram. if i insert 4gb ram, then i just get 3 a 3.5 gb? and will an t7200 allow me to have more ram?and last is more an software issue; i use fingerprint to logon to windows 7 (home premium). is there a way i can set windows to only use fingerprint log on? (so you cant select other logon options).
I'm having a bit of a strange problem with my Thinkpad X201.
I've been running Windows 7 Pro on it for almost a year without any problems at all, but the SSD I installed developed a fault and had to be replaced. I have the original Win 7 Pro DVD and have installed it from scratch on the new SSD but a few problems have come up.
W7 couldn't find any drivers for the network card or wireless card, and without a network connection it couldn't go online to find any - luckily I was able to download a network card driver via my desktop pc which I then installed on the X201, and when the Windows updates were downloaded and installed, the wireless also started working too.
However, the on-screen displays for the volume, brightness and Caps Lock functions don't work and neither does the Fn-F5 for wireless and Bluetooth.
I spent all of yesterday evening hunting various forums and downloading numerous drivers etc, but I still can't get the OSD to work.
I've tried Lenovo's System Update which downloaded some things and have also tried using the Intel video drivers etc but am totally lost now as to what to do next.
I know that the OSDs do work as they were all working perfectly on the original W7 install, I just don't know what the problem is now with this clean install.
Just ordered E6400 with Windows Vista Home Basic and will install Windows XP SP2 as soon as it is landed. Is there anything I need to know before installing XP in E6400 (e.g. back up driver, compatibility with hardware, etc)?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought a Aspire E5-551 on amazon second hand. Had a fresh Windows 8.1 on it. Turn it on, mess around, everything seems fine if not slow due to the HDD. Pop in a new SSD I bought that tested OK on with another computer. Install Windows 8.1 Via USB. It get to the part will it tell me to restart, upon restart it will always hang at getting ready or some such thing. I let it set for hours, even the spinning icon stropped spinning.
So I reset the laptop via the power button. I get the error "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" and tell me to restart. It will keep doing this no matter how many times I click restart. Never had this issues with all the other computers or laptops I ever installed 8.1 one but the internet has a solution. While the "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" is on screen you can bring up cmd line via shift+f10 and bring up regedit. The fix is to go to HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion and change the setup.exe key to 3. After this I'll get some issues with blank screens upon restart but after 1 or 2 reboots i get to my desktop. Though the desktop doesn't have all the apps and things a fresh windows install comes with.
Like IE is not even listed on the start menu. Looks like a halve baked install or something. But everything is fine. While like this I can reboot the machine a bunch. Click around, seems okay. Seems like all is well till I start installing drivers. Ill go installing drivers then the machine will stop responding to clicks but the mouse still moves around. When I reboot it like this Ill get struck at "getting ready" and i'll never be able to get to my desktop again. Now I can get into safe mode and Ill uninstall all the drivers but when I try to do a regular boot ill just hang at "getting ready'.
I've recently formatted my hard drive and put my own copy of Win7 on my Thinkpad Edge 14 (0579-A62). There's no more recovery partition. After being surprised that Win7 didn't have any built in drivers for the display or WiFi, I plugged an ethernet cable in and went to the Lenovo support site. I tried all of the Networking: WLAN drivers but none of them let wireless work. I installed the Intel PROSet software and it just says "Driver is not installed" so I'm assuming it doesn't have anything to do with the WiFi key on the keyboard.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the E540. Running Win 7.1. I have 2 WD 3.0 Passport drives plugged into a USB 3.0 hub. The 3.0 hub has the correct cable for 3.0. They are not being recognized as 3.0 devices (I get a message). I updated the USB 3.0 driver on lenovo's site and BIOS is set to auto.recognize. I have also tried the 3.0 option in the BIOS but that didn't do anything. I also tried using the drives without the hub in one of the 3.0 USB slots but that didn't do anything either.
I have checked the forum but what I found was possibly purchasing a 3.0 cable (not necessary - my cable is 3.0 compliant) but that was for a Wn 8 system or updating 3.0 device driver (done). So much for plug and play.
