Acer Aspire E15 :: Windows 8.1 And BitLocker - Initialize Option Does Not Appear In File Menu
Mar 8, 2015
I have an Aspire E15 running Windows 8.1 Pro. I want to encrypt the hard drive with BitLocker, but first I have to initialize the TPM chip. When I follow the outlined procedure for initializing the TPM chip, the Initialize option does not appear in the File menu. I tried to contact support, but they did not know what I was talking about.

Attempted a system restore but restore did not initialize and went into a loop. After a long delay itwent to a BSoD and a continuous loop saying it would restart the computer. It didn't. Can't shut down to do a restart.

I have an acer M3 581T which I bought about a year ago. Now, windows crashed and said there was a file missing. I am no longer able to boot up the system, I've tried the erecovery (alt f10) but it just proceeds and says it's not able to boot. I have no recovery cd/usb at hand. It is of my understanding that this ultrabook has two harddrives. One SSD on which the operating system is installed and one HDD with the other files on.What do I do to make it work again? I do not care if all my files are lost.

So I bought Acer E5-527G-77BU. I installed windows 8.1 Pro with no problem. But I really don't like this windows and I want to install Windows 7. But when I plug in DVD or flash drive with windows, I don't get the boot option for it (in the f12 boot menu). If I put in the Win 8.1 DVD everything is fine. I can chose it from the menu.

I'm trying to do a Dell Factory Restore on my Dell Inspiron 1440 Vista laptop. I did a manual reinstallation some days ago, but only halfway through as I got confused with the drivers to install and messed up on the installation sequence, and thus started having driver problems again. Now, I don't see "Repair your computer" on the Vista Advanced Bootup options menu, even though the partition is still there intact and undamaged.
Any way to work this out ? I think I saw an article where doing a lot of steps through command prompt made the Factory Restore work, even when it does not show up.

Acer Aspire V3-772G - BIOS setup utility menu items have disappeared
I have setup this brand new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 8.1, for my sister-in-law who bought it. The installation went well BUT the 16GB USB device which I purchased as advised by the Acer literature to store the recovery partition was not big enough, the physical capacity being 14.4GB. The Acer book says use a 16GB device or larger so I did. I naively thought that a USB drive which was labelled 16GB would be appropriate. Not so. I have had to buy a larger one but am still awaiting delivery.
I therefore decided to image the whole HDD to save the work I had done but found that the Acronis Backup and Recovery DVD would not boot. I went into the setup utility and adjusted the Boot settings to legacy and changed device priority. Acronis would not run so I did not continue. I went back into the setup utility, used F9 to restore the default and found to my astonishment that the DUAL boot option had now disappeared and the Windows Boot option had also vanished.
This means that this £800 laptop is now unusable. The setup utility self-reconfigured without warning. Nowhere is there any advice or warning not to use the setup utility in case it erases features which cannot be recovered by using F9 to recover the default configuration. If this is not a serious design fault, I don't know what is.
I am deeply worried because the idea of a BIOS setup utility behaving this way seems so improbable. How is it that the setup utility has been designed to self-harm like this?

As of today, Aspire V3-112P BIOS files, even the onboard version file, have not be available for download. When will Acer release a bios file, even the old one, for download?
F2 enter into BIOS, but found noway to backup BIOS to a file.
Fla**bleep**.exe backup.fd /g (with version 2.0) failed to backup.
So it comes to the second question: how to backup the current onboard BIOS to a file? It looks like insydeflash can't backup onboard BIOS to file without providing an existing BIOS file. It's so awful.

I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log:
BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid.
This is immediately followed by:
BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event.
The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?

My Aspire M laptop will not boot due to the 'boot configuration file being invalid', at least, this is what the 'Recovery' blue screen states. The blue screen offers to 'Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings, but is not responsive. I've tried F2, F8, F10, Alt+F10, F12, Space Bar, Delete and Break to try to activate the BIOS interface, all equally unsuccessful.
I followed the instructions to purchase recovery tools from Acer, but without being able to access the BIOS to set the boot order, I've just sunk another $25 into a laptop that doesn't work. The cost of service exceeds the cost of the laptop, so I'm inclined to continue trying to repair it myself. If it cant' be repaired, there is little chance I'll purchase a new Acer to replace it as this has been a very frustrating experience.

This model has the Intel 4500MHD and 1366*768 screen. My laptop has a cracked screen. Will a 1920*1080 replacement screen work? I'm stuck with the Intel 4500MHD, right? Even at 1366*768, it has problems playing downloaded HD movies so I know it will be a dog at 1920*1080, but I mostly use the laptop for real work.

The Troubleshoot icon that should be under the 'Advanced Startup' Option is missing. I don't know if it's because I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but I used that previously when I need to go to safe mode. Suddenly it disappeared. I can only pick two options, "Continue to Windows 8.1" and "Turn off the PC".

One morning, laptop powers-on (Blue led on power button and on front bezel), no display, fans spin up and down, CD drive makes the usual seek sound. Attached external screen from my desktop, no display either, no POST!!. Removed HD, RAM, NIC, no change. No beeping what so ever, really looks like the notorious Acer BSOD i've read about. What I need is the EXACT name I should rename the BIOS file (JE70D118.ROM) to be able to use the Phoenix BIOS recovery function (FN+ESC+PWR) with the BIOS file on a USB key or SD card. Seems to be a national secret or something... Acer does not seem to have this documented anywhere.... including the actual BIOS recovery procedure....

I purchased a new Dell XPS 11 9P33 a few days ago and the Windows logo button located on the touch screen is randomly vibrating and switching to the Windows start menu in Windows 8.1. The Windows button will randomly vibrate and switch to the start menu even when no one is touching the laptop. It seems to start slow at first happening once every few minutes then it gets worse so that the Windows button is switching to the start menu rapidly several times in a row making the laptop unusable.
Rebooting the laptop doesn't seem to work, the issue comes right back in a few minutes. This happens when viewing the BIOS without being logged into Windows so it appears to be a hardware issue. The local computer store had another Dell XPS 11 in stock so I exchanged it for the other one but now the new XPS 11 has the exact same issue that the first XPS 11 had. It has BIOS version A00 installed which appears to be the latest BIOS version. It's a great laptop otherwise and I would love to keep it, is there any possibility this will be fixed in an upcoming BIOS update?

I have installed the drivers from my original dell drivers dvd. Everything is good, but the sleep function is disabled, grayed in the start menu (hibernation is enabled). What may the problem? I would use sleep instead of hibernating.

I recently received X240 and new X1 Carbon (Gen2) laptops with the 256GB eDrive and am working to set up Bitlocker using Windows 8.1.
On the X240, I followed the steps in another posting here and successfully got hardware AES working (by manually installing chipset on newly installed OS, then installed everything except RST and Bitlocker worked with the eDrive).
Following the same process on the new X1 Carbon, however, I only am able to use software encryption and can't figure out what to do to use the eDrive feature.
Is there a process to follow on the new X1 Carbon Gen 2?
