Acer Aspire One AOA150-1570 :: Failing HD - On New Drive Can Use E-recovery?
Oct 13, 2014
Have an Aspire One model ZG5 AOA150-1570 running winXP.
The hard drive has had a failure and after running disk checks (dskchk) using a special mini XP boot CD, I was able to view and copy my important files, pictures and videos to a thumb drive. Now I need to replace the drive but can I somehow use the directory and files of the protected area/hidden partition on the bad drive and copy that to a new drive and use those files to restore to initial specs on the new drive using e-recovery. I can use the alt-f10 to boot to the e-recovery on the bad drive but since the drive is bad I don't want to revert to factory specs.
Again can I install a new hard drive and somehow copy all the files needed (what files would they be?) from the old drive to the new drive and then run the e-recovery restoring the computer to factory specs with this new drive installed??
If for some reason I can't do that or if it fails while trying I can always reinstall with a new installation of XP.

After changing from XP to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I found the netbook a tad slow. It has the original configuration with ½ GB fixed ram plus ½ GB removeable. I tried to insert a 2 GB DDR2 1.8V but the machine would not boot. What is the max GB I can use?

Im only just burning the factory DVD restore of my system via Acer eRecovery Management. I should have done this a long time ago right when I first recieved my laptop. What ends up on the factory restore DVD?
Another question, my laptop really has noticably slowed down since purchase. I know this is natural...especially as I currently have lots of games installed...only 9GB currently free on C.
This free space varies drastically day to day as restore points seem to automatically be generated by vista. I think this automatically takes place when vista downloads and installs updates. How can I change this? It's annoying as I have a consitently fluctuating amount of free space on C..I frequently delete these points using Tune Up Utilities 2008 which brings me back to the norm.
Also, the D partition seems like a huge waste of space to just leave as it is. There are 103GB free on this partition with only two windows folders existing on there. I have never touched this partition thinking it is there only for disaster situations, like if vista dies and wants to make an image of itself here.
Is this correct or can I move other files onto this partition? Will this increase performance?
Im just trying to increase the speed of my laptop day to day workings. My girfriend was saying that the D partition can maybe be somehow partitioned to speed up the laptop?

I have Acer Aspire 5742G notebook and I'm having problems installing the Windows 7 OS on my new SSD hard drive (I bought the SSD because the original hard drive is failing and making blue screens all the time...)For the factory restore, I'm using restore discs. I burned the discs few years back when the laptop insisted me of doing it (by using eRecovery or something, 3 dvds total).
The computer tries to install the OS with the dvds (asks to insert a dvd and then press a key). The actual problem is that the installer is just going in loops, restarting and eventually freezing in the end.. Reboot -> Acer logo -> Windows is loading files... -> Starting windows -> Reboot -> etc. That kept going for more than a hour (on the first dvd!) and suddenly it just froze on the "starting windows" screen.. So I had to reboot and star over again.I can still use my old formatted HDD, should I make new set of recovery discs or use an USB drive?

I have an Aspire V3-772G. I can't create a recovery drive anymore. I ran reagentc.exe in command-prompt and it's pointing to the correct recovery location, but Windows RE is disabled and for some reason I can't reenable it.
Here are some screenshots to describe the problem :

So i recently upgraded my Aspire 5560g to Windows 8.1. I liked it but it seemed to have lost my drivers in the process (my track pad scrolling didnt work and my Dolby audio origram was gone).
I went to for the drivers and decided to start with a firmware upgrade (9545 for hard disk performance).
After the computer rebooted, I entered the dreaded Windows 8.1 boot loop. It would say "Your PC ran into problems..." with the bluescreen, then turn off. Then it would attempt the Automatic repair, and fail again, then restart the cycle.
I wasn't able to even get into my BIOS until I cleared my CMOS, now at least I can get into BIOS.
I created a bootable USB for Windows in hopes I could do a clean install, but even when trying to boot from a USB I get the blue Windows 8 screen, "Your PC ran into problems..."Is there a way I can undo the firmware update, it seems like the culprit, doesn't it?
EDIT: I've read that the Windows boot loop may be caused by outdated drivers. Think this could be the problem after I did the firmware update? How can I install the drivers without being able to boot into Windows?

Last night, my system started hanging on the welcome screen (for over 30 minutes), so I attempted a windows system restore to a few days ago. That wouldn't work (I can re try it and advise of the specific error messages)....
I then tried the Alt+F10 erecovery, but again receive an error message when it is almost complete - the message says "windows restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, then restart the installation" ....
The complete factory reset is the only thing I haven't tried, as I'd rather not lose all the pictures and music I have stored on there- is there a way to resolve the issue at all, without completely wiping the hard drive? I have access to other pcs etc to download things and burn them to cd/DVD/memory sticks...

When i load a disk the drive tries to spin up three of times but then stops.
I've tried several discs and it's the same each time so it's not the disc, only started happening today.
I've tried reinstalling the driver but to no avail. Maybe some dirt got in there? I read of some utility to test the drive but i can't find it.

Alright, so I bought an Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop in October and I have two main issues with it.
One is that the w key keeps falling off. The plastic hinge thing underneath is broken.
Second, I think the hard drive is failing. It's making weird beeping sounds, clicking, takes a long time to boot up, crashes occasionally and moves icons around on my desktop every time I start the damn thing up.
My question: what can I do about it? How do I go about getting this fixed? I love the laptop aside from those problems. Is it covered under warranty? Do I go back to the store I bought it from, or do I just work it out with Dell?

8204 just started to die, thought it was my new hard drive (which I was peeved about) and then realized it's actually the fan that's dying.
I know you can get a new thermal unit (including fan) for about $80, and I know that there are good numbers of laptop coolers out there, does anyone have a POV on the best bet?

The hard drive on HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook was failing. I was able to create a recovery USB in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was larger, can't remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know the Recovering the System after the Hard Drive is Replaced (Windows 7) says "To avoid problems, install a hard drive as large or larger than the replaced hard drive," but that's a question for later.
Computer booted fine from USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimal install. It goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Then says to remove external media and reboot, computer will reboot several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I pull out the USB and reboot, but after POST I get "No bootable media present".
If I try to reboot leaving the USB in, it boots to USB and we're back at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk that the SSD has one NTFS partition that has had Windows files copied to it, and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60%/40%.)
How do I make the hard drive bootable, and if it were bootable, would the recovery process complete? What's going on with the partitions? Is it creating the recovery partition first, and then after boot the recovery partition installs the OS? If so, I might have to abandon this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.

HP Pavilion Dv5-2077cl Entertainment NotebookProduct #: WQ799UA#ABAWindows 7 64-bit
I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?

I have recently got an Acer Aspire One 110 Windows XP Version with 1GB ram for my girlfriend as an xmas present. Anyway while I was setting everything up for her i.e. firefox & msn etc. I spotted in the programs that there was nothing to do with Acer at all i.e. erecovery management, and the only thing was the Acer PDF manual. I then proceeded to look in disk management (right click my computer > manage) and to my shock there was no PQSERVICE or any sort of a recovery partition! The only partition was the main Windows partition! I thought maybe it was because the SSD hard disk is only 8GB. I decided to take a look at the 2 disk that I got supplied as I thought that these were the only possibe way to restore if you had an external disk drive. The 2 disk were labeled System CD & Windows XP Home Edition SP3, The System CD disk was 500MB in size and the Windows one was 2.54GB! That must be the recovery DVD then.
I decided to try and boot into the disks on my other laptop and the SystemCD disk did load up and it loaded the eRecovery program but the option to recovery was greyed out (fair enough as it was a different laptop) I then decided to boot the 2.54GB Windows disk and the laptop would not recognise it at all! I decided to look at the contents of the 2.54GB Windows disk manually through windows and all that it has it about 20 .SWM files and some other files but the only application I could see was a program called "ImageX" I then manually looked at the contents of the SystemCD disk and there was only various folders and files but no clickable applications. I am now a bit confused by these 2 disks, how am I supposed to do a full restore the aspire one now incase anything goes wrong?? Could anyone help me out with how am I supposed to these 2 disk or am I supposed to create another recovery disk using these 2 original disks? Or will these 2 disk boot up fine using an external disk drive with the aspire one?
