however it didnt have the inaccesible boot device i was told last time this happened that the hard drives had come out of sync and that the comp was fried :| so PC world gave me a replacement.....
anyway i booted it up and got this now im running a Dell XPS M1730 with Vista SP1 however
when i press the Dell Media key which is locatewd next to the power button just over the Caps, num and scroll lock indicators it sometimes boots and sometimes dosent i dont wanna have to go back to PC world again as there all idiots and arnt
I got mine XPS m1330 in april.. Didn't like Vista because I felt that I didn't have control over my computer with all that superadmin etc and it being slow.. So I installed XP a couple days ago.. But now I've been used to Vista and didn't like XP, so I switched back to Vista.. Much faster this time around without all of that preinstalled software for now...
Now I have two issues..
First issue is the fan works constantly and sometimes is stops for one second and runs for one second and does that all the time, it is driving me crazy.. By the way, the laptop is not warm at all..
The second issue is that I had to switch SATA HDD in bios to ATA from ACHI(?) and disable something in BIOS which I don't remember the name now before I could change to ATA. Now if I try to enable that "thing" and switch to ACHI from ATA, Vista doesn't boot..
Is it a problem that it is running in ATA or it doen't matter?
I am sick and tired of being forced to buy a MicroS operating systems. I know on some Vostro there is a Linux configuration but why is it not offered on the latitudes?
It also upsets me the customization step called "operating system" which in reality is just Windows.
I know this is not a new issue but I think in 2010 it's time to stop such racket. I want to be free to choose what software goes on my computer.
if it is possible to stop the video card from going into 3d clocks for certain applications. For instance, my skin for my computer uses a lot of transparencies and any simple movement of a window causes the video card to go into 3d clock mode. To me that seems like an unnecessary waste of heat for just everyday simple tasks like surfing the internet etc. I'd still want it to dynamically change to 3d clocks when I run a game or something though.
My fan on the inspiron 1545 will not stop running. The laptop is quite hot. The battery from Dell died and replaced with a third party battery and adapter which have not been working well either. Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.
There is something wrong with the XPS M1530. Almost every owner seems to have overheating problems and those that don't may just not realise it. It seems to happen amongst gamers. Is the overheating because we're gaming 'too much'? Should the XPS M1530 be able to cope? I have so many questions because I'm having my share of overheating problems...something which I recently feel is unavoidable...
After owning my laptop for 8 months, I only just started to monitor the temperatures after I was getting huge drops in fps while gaming after a length of time as well as some artifacting.
On the 15/12/08 which is just over 2 weeks ago I had my motherboard and heatsink/fan replaced because of the following high temperatures I would get when playing games.
After, they were replaced I played some COD4 for 30 mins or so and got the following temperatures. When I saw these temps, I thought "Awesome, my temps are finally normal".
On the 22nd, 1 week after the replacement, I monitored my temperatures as I played TF2 for an hour. As you can see, there was a increase in my max temperatures and at this point, I wondered if maybe the temps will slowly become high again.
Another week later, yesterday on the 30th, I once again monitored my temps and played L4D for 20 mins or so to find that my temps have yet again risen but this time quite a bit more.
Alright so the question is, what the hec is going on with the XPS M1530 and why do the temperatures just keep going up even after getting a new motherboard and heatsink/fan!?!? Seriously, in just two weeks, my temps have risen by as much as 10 degrees celcius! Is this some kind of hardware failure or is this normal? Is it the thermal paste that's melting away or what? What could be going wrong?
I just bought a studio xps 1647 from best buy and today the usb ports stopped working. They could not see multiple jump drives I inserted.
Is this a win 7 flaw or is something wrong with my laptop? It was in sleep earlier. My theory is that the laptop just didn't wake the ports coming out of sleep mode. I'm contemplating returning the laptop for another.
When I put my Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook to sleep either with the power button, or closing the lid, the light on the front of the until will flash. I haven't timed it exactly, but it flashes for several minutes, but eventually stops flashing. When I wake it up from sleep, it seems about the same whether or not the light was flashing.
Why the light eventually stops flashing and what it means? It isn't because the battery died, and it isn't going into Hibernate because this laptop doesn't have that option.
This is driving me crazy. The left rubber bumper on the keyboard deck of my m6400 keeps coming off. I called dell and they ended up replacing the entire deck just to replace this one little rubber piece and it just ended up coming off again.
I really don't want to call dell and set up a service call just to replace this one little piece. The last time I did the tech completely disassembled my laptop and it took him 3 reassembly attempts to get it to boot,
but I'm worried the my screen will get cracked if I don't (I have the covet with the glass screen). Seems like a really bad design.
I just got a refurbished E7440. Before booting into an OS (e.g. staying in BIOS or at the boot menu), and after booting into Ubuntu, the fan is always on high and never stop (even when the CPU is idle at 40 degree C)). I also have an E6420 and an E6440, have never seen this behavior on them.
I see both BIOS A06 and A07 has "thermal control" listed as enhancement. Updated the BIOS to A06, A07, then A08, still have the same problem in all of them.
Is this expected for all E7440s or just mine? What can I do to make the fan be "on-demand" (without using Windows)?
I have a dell inspiron duo which will boot but then it says startup failed. I've gone through the repair menu and it still gives me the same message. How do I fix this?
Yesterday I flashed my 1737 to the A07 BIOS because DELL says it gets the machine ready for Windows 7.
Flash went perfect, machine works fine. Heres the problem.
the CPU runs very hot now, web surfing checking emails in the 40C to 47C range
when before with the A06 BIOS I only cracked 37C 39C was with lots of video and Gaming.
So I will be emailing DELL to see whats going on, I am very upset about this. Oh and the Fan wont stop running now. and I am at 37C on Core 0 and 33 on Core 1, which is Cool. But the fan does not stop.
How to stop setup halting when I power on - it waits for me to press any key to continue, press f2... press f12 - I just want it to load windows directly - can't find anything editable to change it. Phoenix Bios 2.3.0.
I have Dell Inspiron N5010 for quite some time and yesterday LCD's just gone all of a sudden. I get 8 beeps again and again which seems to show LCD failure. I connected it to an external LCD and it works. the problem is that I am on the biz trip right now and this beeping sound really annoys me (until I solve this problem by replacing LCD or buying a new lap top). How to kill this beeping sound temporarily?
I've run into a problem where every file I download will start normally, then slow to a stop (0 kB/s), and never start back up or continue. Depending on the internet's download speed, this makes it impossible to download files larger than 25-50 MB. This problem has persisted on four different networks and in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, so I've determined it's neither a network nor a browser issue. It started where it would only affect about 75% of downloaded files, but now it affects every single one. Although, I can still download large amounts of data through other sources (I downloaded a 25 GB game on Steam with no problem).
I just got a Dell Inspiron 14 7000 series (Inspiron 7447). Was using an Acer before this. My question is about the fan. Its a brand new laptop and I haven't installed anything yet. The fan is fast for no reason and doesnt stop spinning. Is this normal for a gaming laptop? I am not running anything program at all.
After I updated the BIOS to A09 of the Inspirion 7520 my USB keyboard stop working. All drivers is instaled and the windows recognize the keyboard and the num pad is on its happens with 2 keyboards and change the USB port don't works.
My touch screen stop working without any reasons that can make the touch screen out of order it's happen suddenly , but before it was working perfectly. Its Windows 8.1 bug or my hardware problem?
We have a problem of keyboard with many Dell Latitude e3540 . Some keys randomly stop responding . We have updated the firmware to version A08 but unable to fix it. Also reinstall the driver keyboard controller with the same result .
The only thing that can solve the problem was momentarily disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard . Likewise, the problem usually returns . The local support Dell keyboards we changed several times but the problem persisted.
I am using vostro 3450. Today I got a problem. Suddenly the flash light my webcam is stop working. But the webcam is still running. What can i do for it?
YOU CAN IGNORE THIS PART I tried many ways to find out why i feel stutte while i play a game. like changing graphics drivers, undervolting, overclocking, downclocking, and so on, nothing works for me at all.
Anyway, I finally find out its the problem with Intel SpeedStep, and i was looking for a way to disable it, but i found nothing.
Then I tried change settings from software, one day i finally find out a way to stop the downclocking while gaming, and i wanna share it to your guyz because we love this laptop.
You will just need to install the RightMark CPU Clock Utility v2.35 or above version to do this instruction.
before you start your game, you need to make sure that your CPU is running on maximum speed by using Acer ePower Management, also make sure the RM CPU Clock is minimized to system tray..................................
I recently got my heatsink + motherboard replaced and noticed drastic improvements with my temperatures. My GPU is now idling at 60-65 C and when I am playing a game (Warhammer Online or Lord of the rings online) it is at 95-100 C.
Is that too hot and should I stop playing to risk damaging the video card?
Or is it fine? I can hear the fan going and I feel the hot air being blown out of the vent and cold air being sucked into the fan.
Last Friday i received my new Studio 1749 with i3. As told by the documentation I put in the battery, put the power cable in the ac-adapter, pluged the AC-cable into the laptop and then pluged the ac-adapter into the wall outlet. I booted the laptop and once I was on the windows desktop had a look at the battery symbol. It showed that the laptop was connected to external power and that the battery was being charged.
I wen't away from the laptop to let it charge the battery for 12 hours as told by the documentation. After two hours i came back to have a look at the laptop and it was off. Curious I turned it on again. After booting up it showed the battery at 60% and the laptop running from battery. Yet the ac-adapter was connected to the laptop. I hadn't changed anything. I pluged the adapter cable in and out, but it wouldn't recognize that the was external power available. Turning the laptop off an on again didn't work either.
Now I feared for the battery. My guess is that at one point it started to run on battery power even though it was not charged for 12 hours. Then when the battery was depleted the laptop shut down. This might have permanently damaged the battery!
I guess as soon as the laptop was off the ac-adapter charged the battery again, and when I came in it was just at 60%.
So I turned it off removed the ac-adapter, removed the battery, put the battery back into the laptop pluged the ac-adapter back in and booted up again. Now it showed it was running from external power again. All fine. It charged the battery as well. Actually it charged the battery up to 99% and then out of nowhere the battery symbol changed and it was running from battery AGAIN! Even though it was still connected to the ac-adapter. This happens all the time. It is reproducable.
So I thought something might be wrong with the ac-adapter.
I powered down the laptop and removed the battery. Now with only the ac-adapter connected ,I tried to start the laptop. The control lights above the keyboard came on for 2 or 3 seconds and then the laptop turned off again. Trying to hit the power button again after that didn't give another reaction.
Conclusion: The laptop won't run just on external power with no battery in the battery bay.
I put in the battery again. AC-adapter still connected. Hit power. Laptop starts to boot. Then while booting I removed the battery. Laptop keeps on booting - finishes booting - runs nice and well at full speed not missing the battery - FOREVER.
So it won't boot with the battery removed, but it will run without it flawlessly??? Strange isn't it?
Next test: I put in the battery again while the laptop is running from mains. And now it charges the battery again until the point... you already know... it "forgets" that it is connected to the ac-adapter and starts running on battery power. So now I boldly removed the battery while the laptop was running. After all it was still connected to mains/ac-power.
has anyone come across a problem with their full stop/forward arrow button, mine seems not to work, i am assuming it is a fault on the keyboard, can this be easilly rectified without returning to base as i need the beast every day.
Acer crashes and stripes appear on screen (picture)
i try all. Dismantle notebook and display and check all the cables tucked, reinstal windows (thus eliminating the possibility that this may notebook hardware control)
stripe appear to be in the wound or the movement of the table with display
