What exactly makes a CPU temperature skyrocket while leaving the GPU temp low?
Right now I am writing an essay on Word 2008, have a powerpoint open, this safari window, and uTorrent downloading torrents.
And my CPU temp rose to 83 degrees C after opening uTorrent.
Why does uTorrent cause such a spike in CPU heat?
This is what I ordered and arrived:

Why is it that almost 3 months after the launch on Windows 8, the driver having compatibility with the windows 8 gestures have still not been launched in the Dell US site? It is present in the netherlands site of Dell, but I cannot ge the left edge swipe (to switch between programs) and the 4 finger swipe (to bring up the instant viewer or desktop) to work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed windows 8 on my system last month. Till Windows 7 was installed everything was fine. Battery backup was around 2.5 to hours on normal use and 1.5-2 hours if I used to hear song or watch movie. But after I have installed windows 8 the heating problem has started, battery backup has dropped. It gives around 50 minutes on hearing songs and around 30 minutes on watching movies and around 1.5 hours on normal use.

+This has bugged me for a long time. Every time my laptop goes into sleep mode and the screen turns off the cpu fan turns on. It hits 100%.
I am trying to do a restore on my laptop but when i try to install windows 7 it ask for the driver files. (To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files and then click okay.) My laptop came with the restore disk but it worked only the first time i had to do a restore. 2nd time i had my mother download a driver on to her flash drive and it worked but recently she lost the flash drive and now we can't find the same driver that worked before.
My Laptop is a Dell XPS 15 L502XÂ
I had been using my DVD/Bluray drive but after a reinstall of windows 7 I am not able to access the DVD / Bluray drive. or rather I am able to access it after re-installing the driver and then after I take out the disk in the drive again the drive becomes unrecongnizeable
I reinstalled the firmware PLDS DS-6E2SH 12.7 Tray BD-Combo Firmware Update(SE2_CD11.zip ) from Dell support site but this did not work.
The only way I can get it to work is by uninstalling the device, rebooting and when it starts up again, it reinstall the driver and the drive works. A thing to note is that this also does not work every time.
I am trying to use the bluetooth in my X230 to pair my laptop with my cell phone. I want to be able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot, in case I am in an area with no secure wi-fi. I would have thought that this would be standard feature in a laptop that is touted as a business device, but apparently this is not the case.
Â
I installed both the bluetooth driver and the latest system update, [URL]..... but it is still not working for me. I am now able to connect my cell phone to my X230, but instead of enabling me to access the internet via Bluetooth, a dialogue box appears enabling me to play songs that are on my cell phone using the laptop speakers.the bluetooth driver did not come pre-installed on the x230, and I am disappointed that I am not able to use my cell phone as a personal hotspot for my x230.
What would i actually lose by deleting the recovery partition?
What i would like to do is reformat the HDD, make 2 (or 3) partitions and install both XP an Vista Ultimate 64.
I already have an XP disc with valid license but for Vista i only have the recovery discs supplied by Dell.
Does deleting the recovery partition make the discs useless? Or can i just reinstall Vista with these. Alternatively i could use normal Vista discs and use the key from the laptop (tried this with upgrading to 64bit on an Acer and it worked fine, key was found automatically)
I did find some guides to do all this on Dell xps and such and all the issues with the MD buttons. I don't think i have these so are there any issues i should be aware of?
Basically I've been messing around with the OCing of my CPU since I've finally got all my temperature issues sorted. Firstly, I notice that my CPU temps at times are erratic, jumping/falling up to 10C at a time. Is this normal?
Secondly, my CPU temps after a short gaming session were
CPU1: 66C/ CPU2: 80C
This seems a bit strange to me. Does anyone know why CPU2 might be so much warmer?
Thirdly, related to the above, is 80C @ 3.4GHz good, bad or average? If I was running at 80C for hours can I expect this to do any damage? I know the CPU can handle up to 105C, however that doesn't mean something below can't cause damage. Confirmation on this would be great :-)
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio TT11M/N and am looking to delete the recovery partition as i have created the recovery discs.
The only problem is i cannot find the partition. I was under the impression that the partition would be under a separate drive like d:, but there is only one drive the c:. How do i delete the recovery partition and where is it?
The HD size is 120GB and it shows at 104GB. But the available amount is just over 80GB.
As some of you may know (I've been posting in the throttling threads) my SXPS1640 is being replaced due to ridiculous heat and throttling issues. I finally got information on my new laptop which actually WILL be new as it's being built from the ground up just as if I had ordered it, also included is the 130W power adapter, I have some questions about it though as I'm unfamiliar with some of the hardware in it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedFirst I already created the factory default backup for recovery on USB drives (did 2 of them), but before I want to delete the recovery parittion, I would like to test first the recovery I created on the USB drives.
Â
Here is my dillema:I can get to the bios and have already setup the boot sequence to make the primary boot device my USB flash drive. Â It seems not to get there.
Â
I tried the other option the D2D, wherein I hit the volume up button and the windows button onscreen and I got to D2D. Â I get to the menu wherein I am trying to recover from an image and have inserted the USB drive. Â That is where it all stops. Â It cannnot find the recovery image even though I have already inserted the USB flash drive even before boot up. Â I did this with both the USB flash drives I made.
Â
I am pretty sure that the USB flash drives contains recovery file, since the USB flash drives titled "recovery" and it contains folders such as "boot" and it has files. Â I tried both USB ports (micro - using the OTG cable, and the actual USB port on the keyboard)
I currently installed Ubuntu and it was good but It drained my battery so I decided to take it off. After that my computer started to act weird. The Media Direct partition appeared in next to my OS and Recovery partitions. When i would press the MD button, I would get a blue screen and eventually every time I press the button It just turns on my computer. When I try to turn it back on after putting it on hibernate, it states that windows did not turn off right and it restarts windows. I have decided to a clean reinstall of Vista and MD but I have a few questions. I found this tutorial on how to do it on the internet but i found that i have to completely delete all the partitions including the recovery partition. I was wondering if there is a way to do this without having to delete that partition?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavillion HPE h8z. When I received it a free Internet Download Manager was installed. There was a 30 day free trial period. Some time after the free trial period expired I deleted the program. The program is no longer listed in the programs on the computer. My problem is that a message started to appear on screen stating that the free period was over and to either purchase or delete the program. Anytime I attempt to download a PDF file the message reappears and will not allow me to continue with the download. I have tied everything that I know to do to eliminate this "bug" with no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat is Battery Drain?
-When your computer is turned off or in sleep mode and looses large amounts of battery life.
How do I know if I am affected?
-To my knowledge, ALL Vaio CW computers (at least with the i5 and 330m combo). I have come to to this conclusion because I have had two of these with the same issue and I have yet to see more than one person say they do not have it on a Vaio CW
How can I fix this?
-Right now there is no fix for loosing battery life while 'Shutdown'. As for sleep mode, you can help make the loss less substantial by doing a 'clean install'
Instructions here
And also make sure that you have these settings in the 'advanced power options'
Tests:
All tests have been run on two different VPCCW27FX notebooks
Test 1: 100% Battery, 4 hrs shutdown: 90%
Test 2: 65% Battery, no HDD, 3hrs shutdown: 48%
Test 3: 48% Battery, 'Power Saver' battery mode, 5.5 hrs shutdown: 20%
Test 4: Wifi Switch off
Test 5: 50% Battery, Battery out: 50%
Conclusions:
At the time being, there is no fix or known cause for the battery drain while shutdown. For now, myths of a clean install or using different windows battery settings make no difference, which means this is either a problem with the motherboard, BIOS or the battery it's self.
i am planning to buy this laptop.

I replaced the system board for an Acer Aspire 5552, and noticed that the product information for the machine, IE: Serial Number, SNID, etc are not flashed into the BIOS. The serial number for this is listed just as 123456789. Do any of you know how I can get my information flashed into the BIOS?
