I purchased my laptop from Frys electronics June of last year. For the past few weeks, whenever I play video or listen to music, it sometimes stops for a few seconds, plays some sound that sound like static feedback then continues as normal. I have no clue what the issue is. What could it be, and should I send my beloved PC in to get it looked at?
Since I bought it, I have manually put in a Blu-Ray burner, has this affected my warranty?
I also upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8

I've been running my m1530 for about six months now, and frankly I am just not impressed with performance. The only current game it seems to be able to run at a decent rate is Civilization 4, or the orange box (and I realize the half life 2 engine is not a "current" engine, at all). When it comes to Warhammer Online, Company of Heroes, Age of Conan, or World in conflict it really can't handle any of them, and it doesn't matter what the settings are, almost all of these games are just as sluggish at medium-high settings as they are at low settings with every last feature shut off. The only setting that seems to have any apparently effect on performance in the games is the resolution. The screen I got with it is a 1680x1050 screen, and when playing at the reduce 1440x900 and 1280x800 it does play better (still sluggish, ) and it looks like absolute a$$!
The important specs on it are as follows
T8300 CPU
8600gt GPU
4gb RAM
1680x1050 Screen
I've tried installing Windows XP to see if performance would get any better, but after battling with sound drivers for a day, gave up on that fight. I've tried beta drivers, I've tried different drivers from laptopvideo2go.com with modified .inf files. I'm running out of areas to look, is the GPU just a pos, should I sent it in for replacement?
I can understand Warhammer and World in Conflict not running at their best, their both resource hogs of games, and on a mobile chipset it could get a bit sluggish. But Company of Heroes, a game released....two years ago, should at least run slug free at low to medium settings. The biggest performance gain I got from Company of Heroes settings was changing the Shader Quality from Direct3D 10 to High, I assume that means it would be rendering in directx 9 instead of 10, that increased my framerate by about 125%..............

I recently had Vista installed and attempted to play some games I bought that I heard ran well on the m1530. Unfortunately when trying them out for myself I found that they did not run very well at all.
The most recent game I've tested this with is The Sims 3. I've read on my different forums that people are running this game easily maxed out with the 8600M GT, 2.0+GHz Processor,
and a few gigs of RAM. Unfortunately when I ran the game I found it to be quite choppy at even Medium settings.
After reading around, I thought that maybe a reformat and a new OS might help. I took off Vista last night and threw on Windows 7. Even without any programs installed, The Sims 3 still preforms pretty badly.
I have my laptop set to "High Performance" mode. Here are my specs:
2.4GHz Processor
3gigs of RAM
32-bit Windows 7
8600M GT Video Card (I recently installed the 185.85 Windows 7 beta Drivers from NVIDIA)

I installed a Go 7800 GTX in my I9300 laptop and OC'd it to 450/1250.
I tried the 3 xp drivers on tweaksmobile and experienced slow loading of npcs, textures in wow, speckles (artifacts), and sound crackles in wow, even lag whens soloing in nobodies land.
My x300 used to perform better.

I tried performing a system recovery on my laptop. After it was finished, I received an error stating "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.
Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click ok to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." Then, after restarting, the computer begins to boot, but brings me to a screen "/noexecute=optin" "edit boot options for microsoft windows vista. Path: windowssystem32winload.exe". Alt+F10 then brings me to a Change boot device screen, giving me the option between my hard drive and CD/DVD ROM drive. My laptop is not under warranty any more, and I do not have recovery discs, nor can I afford them. What can I do to either boot my laptop, or properly recover it?

I've had my M4400 for less than a year now, but it's slowly falling apart, despite very good care on my part.
The problems so far:
+ 0 weeks after purchase: the fingerprint reader doesn't properly function due to driver issues
+ 2 weeks after purchase: the screen failed and had to be replaced
+ 3-4 weeks after purchase: the webcam failed (it was probably dead on arrival with the new screen) and had to be replaced
+ ~3 months after purchase: the inner bezel was permanently marked by the inside rubber feet
+ ~4 months after purchase: said rubber feet came off, causing the screen to flex more and the marks to worsen
+ ~6 months after purchase: the system frequently overheated, becoming uncomfortably hot to touch and causing an ever so slight bend in the chassis in the lower right corner
+ ~9 months after purchase: significant wear and flex on the keyboard, plus the matte surface on the lid has worn off in parts after using Dell's padded case
+ ~10 months after purchase: the black film on the left speaker is pealing off
I really love Dell, and I've bought a few systems before, but I'm quite surprised this notebook is falling apart so badly after such a short period of time.
My question is: what should I ask them to do?
Can Dell only replace individual parts, or could I get a new system from them? If so, what happens about my upgrades (RAM and HDD)? Do they take them back too?
As an aside, I know it's early days, but does the M4500 suffer from similar design defects too?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 and about one year ago it starting booting slowly. I created a second partition and installed a vanilla Windows 7 on it and booted into it and it still boots slowly.I've tried every form of optimization that various sites, including you, have told other people in forums. Drivers, defragmentation, chmod, and various other things I can't remember.
It takes about 3-5 minutes for a cold boot and about 9 minutes from hibernation. Sleep mode works normally.I don't know what the issue could be. There's only two more things I have not done: backup and reformat the whole drive and update bios.I have recorded me starting my laptop in safe-mode to show that the drivers load very slowly: URL...

This is not "battery pluged-in not charging" issue. That issue is software related and can be easily changed the option whether Life or Health of battery you concerned by LEM. I'm one of Y580 owner that facing that issue that the laptop cannot detect the AC adaptor anymore after performing the Battery Guage Reset".
For example: URL...I was tring to search for the solution, but as you know there is nothing without send it back to service center. The tempolary solution I was using is,
1. Remove the battery (if laptop is powering on, then shutdown it first).
2. Remove the AC adaptor from wall ac receptacle.
3. Once the laptop is completely powered down, plug AC adaptor to your laptop and wall AC receptacle.
4. After a few second, insert battery back into the Laptop. And then, the battery will be chaged as usaul.
5. You need to repeat step 1-4 above every time you unpluged the AC adaptor.
By the way, I have been living with that issue for almost 2 years, until it was already out of waranty in June 2014. So rightnow, I can do whatever I want without worrying the waranty. I was trying to teardown my Y580 to find the dead components. I gusted that the issue may be from charging circuit. Afetr opened the chassis, I found that the Y580 uses BQ24737 from TI to be the charging controller.
I cannot found the BQ24737's datasheet, but I was using BQ24735 instead, since, they have the same pinout with difference in optional functions. I found it. The dead one is the input MOSFET. It's shorted between Drain and Source!. That lets the voltage from AC adapter directly connected to Battery. And then, the AC adapter will be tripped with over current protection and the voltage is held to near zero. That's why we cannot plug the ac adapter with battery inserted for this case.
So far, after I replaced it with the similar rating MOSFET from old laptop, it works!. So, I can plug to charge my laptop as it should be without problem.the actual circuit shound not be exactly the same with datasheet. For the Y580, the input MOSFET (Q1 in datasheet and PQ302 in Y580) is P-Channel (AO4423), and it has the external circuitry to dive that MOSFET instead of U1. send it to service center to replace the new motherboard. If not, and you have electronic/soldring skill, you can do it by your self.
Tools needed,
1. Soldering iron (it will be easier for removing part from PCB, if you have 2 of them).
2. Equivalent electrical rating MOSFET.
3. Multimeter.
The different model, different location. Anyway, you can check whether it is the right MOSFET that need to be replace by,
1. Disconnect battrey from labtop
2. Using multumeter (ohm function) to measure the resistance between pin Drain and Source of the MOSFETs. The dead one must has very low D to S resistance (near 0Ohm) for both direction (D(+)<-->S(-) and D(-)<-->S(+)).
3. Search for the dead MOSFET's datasheet and then find/cross the new one from local supplier.
4. Just replace with the good one.

I have a Dell Studio 1745 and there is an issue with the magnetic switch. The issue seems to be that the switch itself can't seem to make its mind up whether it has been activated or not. On boot the screen flickers on and off slowly, placing a magnet near the track pad (where the switch is located) increases the rate of the flickering, however it does not solve the problem. Looking inside the laptop the switch seems to be a soldered chip, is there any way to solve this completely? I've connected it to an external monitor, however the picture will only stay on the screen with the magnet in place, removing the magnet causes the picture to come away from the monitor and back to flickering on the laptop.

Is anyone aware of any issue with the touchpad on this model? For about a year now, on occassion the mouse pointer will just completely freak out (I do't know ho better to describe it). All control of the pointer is lost, it moves really fast, and shus down and resizes windows seemingly randomly. I can stop the behavior by CONTROL-ALT-DELETE, but it's a real problem. Lately it is getting worse.... And the mouse pointer has started to just freeze completely.
It is not a driver issue. I've tried changing drivers to no avail. I even completely rebuilt my machine from a clean build a month or so ago. The problem remains.
The computer is a couple years old now, but I don't put lot of junk on it so it still runs fast. And the light casing is great. I really don't want tohave to buy a new machine.

I have upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 12GB (4+8). After the upgrade, the laptop boots and runs very very slowly. My laptop came with 4GB ram 1600 single stick. I upgraded the RAM by adding another stick of 8GB same bus and same manufacturer. The BIOS shows the total memory as 2288MB instead of 12288MB. Windows detects total RAM of 12GB but boots and runs very slowly.I have updated the BIOS from A06 to A07 trying to resolve the problem but with no luck. When installing each RAM stick alone (4gb or 8gb), everything works fine, but the issue comes back again when both sticks are mounted together even when switching the places on the sockets.

I run the BIOS upgrade / update to the version A13 on my Dell Latitude E6410 and after that I found this problems:
. the bios logo on startup takes about to 10 seconds to load (and sometimes freeze and need to restart the machine)
. the boot menu (F12) takes 4 o 5 minutes to load
. the startup of Windows 7 64bits - SP1 takes more than 1 minute to load and some apps works slowly
. the 2 usb ports on the right side doesnt work after the upgrade
Can return to other version of BIOS (I think that the previous version was A08 or A09)?

My touchpad works with the recommended Dell Alps Touchpad driver installed. It seems clear that this driver (apoint.exe) is only required for gesture control of the Touchpad, and this is my problem.
I start my laptop (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit) and use auto login. The laptop is quickly ready to use. I open firefox or other programs, but I can't scroll with the touchpad. The apoint.exe hasn't started faster than I have, and the gesture controls are not recognised when I use them. When I wait a few seconds, the driver is then active, and the gesture controls work.
This is highly annoying ! I don't have many programs running at start up (I've just done a clean Windows 7 install). My anti virus software does take some time to come up, but its not excessive.
How can I increase the priority of the touchpad driver apoint.exe which I can see in msconfig ? It needs to be up and running fast.
Is it possible to somehow set a group policy in Windows 7, so that this program is running before login is allowed ?
I've tried the recommended Dell driver, and also tried a later version which I found via searching on the Dell web site. Both drivers work fine, but they both take too long to load.

I have encountered a problem with my laptop - a Dell XPS 15. When the computer turns on, or I insert the charger, the following error message appears:"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by: Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation. Connect a Dell 130W AC Adapter or higher." I first encountered this problem a few months ago but on occasion, I have managed to get it working by taking the charger in and out a few times.
Though over the last couple of days, it won't charge at all. I have tried using another charger, which yielded the same results; though it was not the exact same charger and actually has a lesser power output. I also checked the bios during start-up, and next to AC Adapter Type was 'Unknown'. Though the charger can power on the laptop without the battery inserted. Just yesterday, my computer also started operating a lot slower, at an almost unusable speed and I think this might be related.

My Acer Aspire V3 772G that I purchased about 18 months ago is starting to behave quite strangely.
The machine has started to run more and more slowly. I have up to date Norton anti-virus, plenty of room on the hard drive, defragment the main drive and try to keep all software up to date.
The other, potentially related issue, I have is overheating. When I run certain online games the left side of the laptop get very hot and I have checked the temperature which get to about 100 degrees C and then the machine shuts down without any warning. I am already using a stand with a fan.
The only thing that I can think of that might be causing this is out of date drivers. When I check from the Device manager it says that all the drivers are up to date and this is confirmed when I look on the Acer site. However, when I go to the Intel site it says that there are more up to date drivers for the integrated graphics card. Should I ignore Acer's information and install the new driver?

My Thinkpad T520, Windows 7 Pro takes over a minute to load any webpage after waking from sleep. The wifi icon shows that the network has connected to the internet after about 10 seconds from wake up. But if I attempt to use a browser to load any webpage, I must wait nearly a minute before the page will load. After that, pages load quickly.
This problem occurs in multiple browsers (FF, IE, Chrome). I am using Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 wireless adapter. I've updated the wireless driver and BIOS. I've cleaned out my registry using CCleaner, and I've defragmented.
One bit of advice I've read that I've tried from these forums does NOT work: Uncheck from Device Manager under the Power Management tab for my wireless adapater the option to Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Unchecking that option (which would seem to keep the driver on) makes the problem worse because the wifi will not reconnect at all.

Because of various problems I was having with my M4400, I decided to reformat and reinstall Windows (Vista Ultimate SP1).
Immediately after reinstalling, it started to freeze for up to 1 second every 10 to 20 seconds, which is really annoying. However, it doesn't miss any keystrokes or mouse movements, as it catches up after the freeze. I'm wondering whether it's got something to do with some unrecognised devices that it has yet to find the drivers for:
PCI Serial Port
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller

i bought my dell xps L502X last june but recently my battery is giving me problems. sometimes when i connect my charger i get the following pop up. The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge.
Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation.Connect a Dell 130W AC adapter or higher.I've never used the battery badly. I always charge it to a 100% and then disconnect the charger and use the charge down to 7% until it asks me to plug in the charger. I keep disconnecting and reconnecting the charger or trying switching on and off the switch until it starts detecting my charger. I updated my bios to the latest version but nothing works. My laptop is still in the warranty till 22-05-2013.

We had problems with our laptop XPS 15 (L502X). It froze often, we were unable to switch it off properly, etc. In the shop they told me McAfee caused the problem, so they uninstalled it. Then they started to check the harddrive, after 20% they found already 7 bad sectors. Now they suggest to ´close´ these bad sectors. But we´re using the laptop and it seems to work well. Do you recommend having the bad sectors repaired or closed or should we change the hard drive completely? Can the bad sectors do any harm?

I have an XPS L502X laptop.A few months ago, probably just one month after the expiry of the warranty, the fan started to make an unbearable noise. This constant on/off of the fan starts even if I just open Firefox, Windows Media Player, Office or any other software. There's no need to play games for hours. Just to clarify: the fan starts even if the laptop is completely cold and I have just turned it on.
I tried everything: I updated the BIOS drivers, I updated the NVIDIA drivers, I modified the properties of the fan control following the suggestions of some users. In short, I did everything I found on the previous threads but nothing worked!
Do I have to contact the support and plan a sostitution of the fan? I mean, I read tens of post like mine, is that possible that a definitive solution has not been found yet?

I purchased a Dell XPS l502x a while back, and neither the service tag nor the express service code has worked in over six months. I’m also unable to email tech support about this issue.
When I’m prompted to submit either number, I receive the following error, "We were unable to verify the Service Tag or Express Service Code you have entered. Please verify your entry or choose one of the options to the right. If you recently purchased a system, please try again in 48 hours.".
The laptop has even been removed from “My Products and Services” and I’ve been unsuccessful in re-adding the system.

So a few weeks back, one of the two usb ports on my DELL XPS L502X fell backwards inside the socket, making it unreachable. That wasn't a big issue since I still had one perfectly fine usb port. This morning, when i tried using my wireless mouse (that had its receiver inside the 1 working port), it din't work. I replaced the cells but it still did not work. I put in another usb stick and the computer wouldn't recognize it. It acted as if there was nothing there at all.
When I check my USB port statuses from the device manager, it shows that both the hubs are working. I cannot understand what is going on. The port doesn't have any visible damage, and it looks perfectly normal but doesn't work.

I was playing a game of borderlands online and its started off running fine and then after about 20 seconds started lagging badly and then froze.
I assumed it was some kind of network connection problem considering i was playing the game fine a few days earlier. Well i forgot about it for a few days.
I just downloaded the battleswarm beta and was playing it and noticed it did the exact same thing, ran fine for about 20-30 seconds started lagging badly then just froze. I went back and tried borderlands in single player to confirm the problem and it also did the same thing.

Battery backup was around 2.5 to hours on normal use and 1.5-2 hours if I used to hear song or watch movie. But after I have installed windows 8 the heating problem has started, battery backup has dropped. It gives around 50 minutes on hearing songs and around 30 minutes on watching movies and around 1.5 hours on normal use.
