Dell XPS L511Z :: Keeps Trying To Eject CD / DVD
Jan 3, 2015
I bought the laptop 3 years ago (the warranty was expired). After receiving the laptop, a few months after, the eject button stopped working. I had to right click the CD/DVD drive icon in Windows and choose "Eject". At that time, I thought the problem was not a big issue. I don't often use my laptop.
The problem started a month ago, I got a blue screen of death in Windows 7...Dec 30th, I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I have gone to the Dell support page to update all my drivers (including the BIOS). However, the eject button is still not working.
I had a black screen in Windows 8.1. The Error message was:
Windows Boot Manager : File: BootBcd
Status: 0xc00000e9 Info: An unexpected i/o error has occured. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
When I turn my laptop on, there is a black window and it keeps trying to access to the CD/DVD drive. Unfortunately, I can't get to the Bios in order to change the setting.

I received my Dell Studio 1737 only a few hours ago and the immediate problem I've found is that Fn+F10 and the eject soft touch button don't eject a CD whilst in Vista. They work fine in the BIOS or Diagnostics Utility but don't work when the machine boots up into Vista.
BIOS is showing as A04 and the latest available on the Dell Drivers website is A02

I have a DELL XPSL511z. Why every time I try to type of this computer the mouse jumps everywhere? I have disabled the track pad and it doesn't work. Is there some way to decrease the key sensitivity? This is a HUGE problem with this model.

I recently purchased the studio xps 16 and did a clean install.
Every one of the touch buttons works like the sound buttons, but for some reason the eject button will not respond, and i have to go to my computer to eject a disc every time.
What was also missing was that when i adjusted the volume level, no bar would come up on my screen showing me what level it was at. Although minor problems, I was wondering if it is possibly a driver that i haven't downloaded?

I've had a Dell Studio 1535 for a couple months now and have had no problems with it at all. In the past couple weeks I've been backing up my dvd's and have done them all so far succesfully until now.
I put a blank dvd disc into the slot loading drive and it sucked it in just like it does every time. When I click start to begin burning I get a message from the program that there is no disc in the drive.
I go into my computer and right click on the e: drive and select "explore" and it says "please insert a disc into the drive". So for some reason the blank dvd disc isn't being read and the computer doesn't acknowledge that there is a disc in the drive. I've tried many methods to eject the disc but all have failed........................................

Recently (as in, the past couple of months), my touch-sensitive media panel has been having some issues above and beyond the common complaints of the sticking eject button. Don't get me wrong, it still does that, but it adds something new to the mix:
More often than not, the eject button does not function at all, even after it unsticks itself.
Once I boot up, it sticks like normal until I boot into Windows, then attempts to eject about 10 times, and then stops. However, most of the time, it will no longer eject when pressed after this. Touching the button will cause it to illuminate like usual, but the DVD drive does not respond, regardless of whether there's a disk in the drive or not.
Sometimes, it works just fine for hours on end, ejecting every time I press the button. Sometimes it starts out working, but I'll come back to it half an hour later and it will no longer function.
Also worth noting is that when the capacitive eject button does not function, neither does the Fn+F10 keyboard shortcut.
I don't believe it's an issue with the DVD drive itself, as I can still eject via software while this happens, by going to My Computer, right clicking the drive and selecting "Eject" (although this occasionally causes an instant Blue Screen of Death).
However, I don't believe it's a touch panel issue either, because I've had the entire panel and ribbon cable replaced by Dell, and there was no difference. Also, all the other buttons (volume, playback controls) work perfectly when the eject is not sticking.
I also doubt it's a keyboard issue, because this started happening with my old keyboard, which I later replaced with my current backlit keyboard, but the Fn+F10 shortcut still does not work when the eject button does not work.
With all this, it left me to believe that the only thing it could be is software, so I completely reformatted the hard drive, left no partitions intact, not even the Dell Recovery partition, and re-installed Windows Vista 64-bit from scratch, but as luck would have it, it was doing exactly the same thing within 30 minutes of loading Windows for the first time.
I am really out of ideas here. I just can't think of anything else that could possibly be causing this, unless it's an issue with the DVD drive itself, which as I said earlier, is unlikely because ejecting via software works. Also, Dell refuses to replace the DVD drive anyway after I sent them basically this exact same message, because they "do not believe that there is a problem with the DVD drive".
Any ideas on why this might be happening? If it were just the regular sticky eject button, I would not be bothered as long as it worked as normal once it stopped sticking, but this is not the case.

I had to re-install Windows 7 64bit after forgetting the password and after I installed all of the drivers everything except for the EJECT BUTTON seems to be working. I thought it worked the fist few days after the install but maybe Windows updated something and now it doesn't work. I went to the driver section and tried reinstalling the 7W7T4 driver package and that didn't fix anything. When I tried to follow the Dell "proper order for installing the drivers" page the drivers it says to install first aren't available for my computer. It appears that there are lots of XPS 14z and 15z users that have had issues with the eject function. Fr the time being I'm having to right click on my D: drive and click eject to get the CD/DVD's out.

1. Eject Button - I can't get either the eject button (near F12 key), or the touch eject button (that lights up) to eject any CD's. I have to go into My Computer, and right click ...and then eject it that way. Anyone know of a way to get the eject buttons to work? Should be able to use one of the eject buttons.
Note: I did try the holding the power button if for 30 seconds, and then rebooted. This didn't work for me.
2. Brightness - what FN + ? key adjusts the brightness of the screen? When the AC cord is plugged in, it's bright. When I disconnect it, it dims. I'd like to adjust the brightness to where the screen is the same brightness when it's on either AC or Battery.

I recently updated my OS to Windows 8 but the Eject key on the keyboard doesn't work. I thought the problem would be solved by installing QuickSet but still the same. All other media keys (change display, wifi, battery, brightness, mute, volume etc) are working perfectly except the eject button.

I have an XPS M1330 and just recently it starts to make the eject noise whenever I boot up or come out of sleep mode. I don't think it's a hardware issue since I tried to install Windows 7 but went back to Vista since my drivers weren't working, and could not be installed under Windows 7. I've tried disabling the driver, deleting Upper and LowerFilters in the registry, uninstalling the driver (which actually appears to reinstall automatically after reboot or sleep), downloaded a program to disable Auto Eject, went to AutoPlay in Control Pabel and unchecked that, and uncheck it from the POST sequence by entering the BIOS setup upon bootup (The F2 Button Setup). (A diagnostics check found the drive to be running fine.) I admit, I accidentally dropped the laptop, but since I've been able to install the lastest driver, insert a disk and it successfully reads it, I've disregarded hardware as the issue. For some reason, the drive tries to eject a nonexistent disk whenever either the E:/ is clicked in My Computer, bootup, or coming from sleep. This problem doesn't occur when there's a disk in the drive, but I don't want to keep inserting a dummy disk just to cancel the noise because I think this might be some auto eject BIOS command that might have accidentally been triggered. Other than this, the drive seems to be functioning normally. Who wants to say it's a normal sound, this didn't occur before. I know the CD-ROM quickly "wakes up" upon bootup, but this is an auto eject noise.
Specs: Dell XPS M1330, MS Windows Vista Home Premium, 4GB RAM, 300 GB HDD, 2.1 GHZ Power

I've had my Studio 1555 for awhile now, and all is has been pretty fine. However, I just noticed that my eject button for the disc drive has stopped working. I rarely use it, but I have used it before.
I upgraded my bios today from A06 to A08 and went to install my new bluetooth mouse, and the eject button just does not respond at all. I can eject the disc from my computer > right clicking the drive and selecting "eject" so it's definitely the button.
I'm not sure if this is related to the bios upgrade or something else.. Computer spec's are in my signature and I'm running Windows 7 Professional, clean install.

My dvd drive has been ejecting cds randomly without me touching anything. It could take 2 to 3 days and all of a sudden cd pops out! Worse, the eject button keeps glowing for over 1 hour after the eject.
I am running on vista home. Dell changed the dvd drive, reformatted the HD , updated the driver, nothing worked.

The touch sensitive eject button on my new Studio 15 laptop appears to be stuck on. When I reboot the laptop, the media control lights flash back and forth as normal. However, the CD drive immediately ejects and the eject button light stays permanently on. This all happens the second the laptop comes on - long before it boots into Vista. This makes me suspect a hardware rather than software issue.
None of the other touch sensitive media controls work.
I've tried cleaning the button, checking for dirt under and on the button and rebooting the laptop. I also rested it overnight.
I only got the laptop on Friday.
