i was watching family guy in the kitchen today and when i plugged the laptop back into the AC adapter it just shut down,
i attempted to restart but it will not boot up at all ive attempted to take the battery out and then try with that however nothing happens at all any ideas on what ive done and how to fix it?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and my friend has a Latitude D820.
Tonight she accidentally plugged my power adapter into her laptop. A few hours later, she noticed that her laptop indicated that it wasn't plugged in, and that's when we realized that she had accidentally used my adapter instead of hers.
Now my adapter doesn't work at all. We've tried the adapter with both our laptops with different outlets with the same problem, so we know it's the adapter. The green light also doesn't come on when it's plugged in anymore.
Did plugging my adapter into her laptop somehow screw up my adapter, or could this just be a coincidence? Is there any way to fix the adapter or at least figure out what the problem is? And if I have to purchase a new adapter, do the universal ones they sell at retail electronics stores work OK? I would order one from Dell but I'm working on a project now and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.
Our Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop just shut down on me out of nowhere. The battery wasn't low, in fact it had just finished charging. It wouldn't turn back on until I plugged it back in and tried. The battery is at 86%, not charging. The battery indicator light flashes red 4 times, then white then off.
It can now only run when it is plugged in. I can start my laptop and it runs fine while plugged in but as soon as it is unplugged, it shuts off.
I assume this is a hardware issue and what caused it. Nonetheless, I used the diagnostic tools provided and found no issue and tried a system restore to no avail.
My laptop is a few weeks out of warranty (classic)...
My Z510 has been randomly shutting down when plugged in, but doesn't have this issue when running on battery. I contacted Lenovo and they sent my a new power supply but the issue continues. I called again and they instructed me to repair-install the Lenovo power manager and do a disk check. The issue still continues.
It used to happen when running something intensive like photoshop or a game and only if charging over 75%, but now it'll happen randomly. I can be sitting staring at the laptop with no programs running and it'll shut down.

I also have 20DM-000VUS, not sure about the original BIOS version though since I downgraded using the files on the Lenovo site (but definitely downgraded).
I just got my laptop back from the shop and Ive been running it for ~1 hour now and so far so good. The shop replaced Power and IO Subcards "FRU 00HN613 and FRU 00HN612".
Now the left USB is not working at all. Afaik it was also replaced. Already talked to the shop and I have to take the laptop back, they will replace it again.
Is this normal that when the machine has no cable attached is very silent - the fan runs occasionally for a short period o time unlike when the laptop is plugged in, makes much more noise -
the fan only stops for about 3-4 min and starts cooling again for another 5-6min or sometimes longer depends on work..?
I'm on my second XPS13 (9333) because of a keyboard latency (lag) issue. I've found that if the AC adapter is plugged in there is no lag. When the AC adapter is NOT plugged then the problem occures.
The keyboard has no problems in Safe Mode. Dell sent a USB to reload the OS but that did not fix the problem. I've heard from another poster (different site) that Dell replaced the MB, SSD, CPU and that did not solve the problem.
I just had a battery replacement for my Dell XPS 15z.. Prior to the installation of the new battery, the machine could only work with the AC adapter plugged in, raising the suspicion that the battery was defective. However, now that a new battery has been installed, the battery does not charge even whiles the AC adapter is stilled plugged in.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought this so called Ultrabook a few days ago and already encountering trackpad issues. It only started happening since yesterday, but figured out then when you plug in the AC Adapter to charge the battery, The trackpad begins to lag or stop working all together.
Yesterday, the trackpad fixed itself somehow so I ignored it, but tonight as I was working on some uni assignments, my laptop battery was low so I plugged it in. The trackpad immediately stopped working and I could no longer work. I "Googled" to no avail, I downloaded the new driver for Cypress, but that too did not work.
I just bought a dell latitude d600 and I have never had a laptop before. Is there a way to tell if it is charging when the ac adapter is plugged in? I bought it for parts or not working and I,m trying to put it back together. I also have been looking for an ide hard drive for the caddy. I didn't know if you could change that to s sata drive or not.

No green LED lit on laptop front. Unit will not boot with AC adapter attached and battery removed.
Checked AC adapter with multimeter and it appears working OK, get 19.5 volts dc output.
I bought one Alienware M14 x last month. However, I found it won't boot when the power adapter is plugged in. If I unplugged the power cord, then press the power button, it will start normally.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, I've had a dead battery on my Inspiron N5010 that would not hold a charge. I also noticed that when i plug in the Dell 65W AC adapter that came with my computer without the battery (as a temporary power source) and the light on the AC Adapter shut off. I've used other dell AC adapters and the same thing happens (AC adapter light cut off). Identifying these problems, I purchased a new battery and the battery worked perfectly fine but when i plug in the AC Adapter, the AC Adapter light would cut off and would not charge the battery. I figured it was a Mobo issue but discovered that the I/O ports for the AC Adapter are on the daughterboard. I purchased and replaced the daughterboard. I plugged in the AC Adapter and now the light on the Adapter stays on. The adapter can now be used with or without the battery but it will not charger the battery. Every time I turn on my Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, I get the following message:
"The AC adapter wattage and type cannot be determined. The battery may not charge. The system will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance."

- I Installed Dell QuickSet
- I am using the 65W Dell AC adapter that came with the laptop
- The AC adapter that came with my N5010 works on other Dell laptops
- I've used a different 65W Dell AC Adapter.
- The adapter is not charging the battery (Plugged in but not charging)
- The green light on the adapter stays on all the time when in use
Inside of the BIOS the AC Adapter Type is "Unknown". what else do you recommend I do?
The charger is plugged in and the battery is at 100%. This is a M4500 Precision laptop with Windows 7. I tried flashing bios from safemode, also from Windows PE.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMonth ago x200 works well. I leave it on table for a mont and do not use it at all. But now, x200 turns on only with inserted AC adapter charger. It does not turn on with only inserted battery (without AC adapter charger), just nothing happend when I press power button.
But battery charges and program "Thinkpad Power Manager" detects battery and it's charge. Battery is ok (tested on another X200 and works well).
I have a xps 13 l322x that won't boot up. It shut down after battery died, it was plugged in to charge and it won't turn back on.
When power button is pressed the LED in front of the touch pad blinks once.
The F12 with the power key does the BIST and the colors show up.
The Fn key with power key does nothing.

View 1 Replies View Related I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a Intel Celeron Processor and the past year my cpu has been overheating and eventually causing my laptop to shutoff. This happens a lot quicker if playing graphics intensive games or playing youtube videos. I want a processor that can handle playing games and videos.
Also, one thing I was thinking was that maybe a fan stopped working that is causing the CPU to over heat but when I run a Dell diagnostic no errors come up about a fan not working, so I'm thinking I just need to upgrade.

I have to upgrade the CPU in the Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?
I just recently purchased a Dell Studio 17. I am very happy with my purchase, however, I have started to notice a high pitched whining noise sometimes when I have it plugged in for charging.
If I disconnect the charger from the laptop, the noise goes away and sometimes it goes away on its own..
Do you leave your battery in while the laptop is being used with the AC adatper? Does this affect the battery life in any way? Definitely makes it lighter if its on your lap!
View 15 Replies View RelatedI was using my laptop the other day and it froze up. Then it shut down by itself. When I tried booting it back up, it says "No bootable devices found" and gives me the options to press F1, F2 or F5 for retrying, setup utility and diagnostics. I ran the diagnostics and it says "All tests passed". The SSD also seems to be recognized as it shows it in the "configuration" tab in diagnostics. I have also tried taking the msata SSD from the 2.5" bay and moving it to the msata slot. Rebooted but shows the same thing. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a sony vaio laptop a little over 2 years ago. I never had a problem untill about 4 monthes ago. I got the "blue screen of death". It said something about the BIOS but would never stay on long enough for me to totaly read it. I went to Best Buy and asked if they had any ideas.
The guy said to contact Sony and get a recovery disk, so i did. I ran the cd but half way through it I got another blue screen that read:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space .....
I have the charger from here brought as a replacement for the original one, but when I plug it - the laptop works, but the battery it's not charging. The battery is 6-7 months old, was pretty good - lasts for more than an hour and a half, but it's not charging now.I have tried to enter the bios and stay there for about 2 hours but the battery does not charge..Or the charger it's not the good one?

I keep my laptop plugged in all the time and therefore do not run it off the battery.
I don't see how the battery could fail, when I don't run (use it) the computer from it, especially after only 1 years usage?
When I start up my laptop, it makes a beeping sound then tells me something along the lines of,"AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined."And when I press F2, it tells me that my battery is operational but it is on idle but the lights on the battery do not glow.When I get it started up, on the actual home screen with icons and everything, if I hover above the battery icon it tells me, "Plugged in, not charging."
My AC power adapter has a small led light on it, and it is green. Before this, my laptop used to get very very hot, to the point that I could not even put it on my lap for too long. I would also sometimes put it on my bed where there is fabric. Also, there is a break on the AC adapter at the very top near where it gets plugged in. I also ran a diagnostic test and it gave me back a code, 2000-0142 .....
Also, my laptop is significantly slower and I am using an Inspiron 1521
I own a Acer Aspire 8930g which I bought at the end of November 08.
Ive been having power problems, Id be playing a game or just browsing the web, and the machine just switches off.
Upon booting up again and logging into windows I notice the battery is completely flat, and is charging at 1%
The laptop is ALWAYS plugged in.
It seems to run down the battery if the computer is put into sleep mode, even though the power is plugged in, and also, I think, cant be 100% but seems to drain the battery even when fully shut down with the power plugged in.
Strrange problems and is really annoying as you would imagine if your in the middle of a good game or halfway through a good movie.
We have some older hp zd8000 laptops, where the battery stopped charging at one point.. granted, they were pretty old, but in one case, we ordered a replacement battery, its been "ok".. in another, the replacement stopped working (stopped charging or holding a charge) after 3 months..
Now i'm about to get a new hp dv7t.. I'm wondering if i should avoid leaving it plugged in (and charging) all the time, or has the tech changed so that this wont hurt the unit..
My laptop is at 4% battery and says pluggred in not charging. I have a HP Envy with windows 8.
