View 3 RepliesMy Pavilion is about two years old and the motherboard was replaced by HP while under warranty.
For the second time in about nine months the notebook suddenly cannot recognize my router's WiFi signal. This time if I do a system recovery I will have to reinstall 50 apps! I am trying to avoid this if possible. I understand that changing the bios settings, how this step will affect (delete/save) files. Upgraded from WIN7 to 8 to 8.1.
On an old Inspiron 8000 laptop, I have a CD-ROM drive that only fits in the floppy drive slot. Will the BIOS recognize a boot CD in this new location? I believe it's an 18000 motherboard.

Drive makes a noise then posts no CD or DVD inserted, although there is one there.
It will read both types of disc with data on them, but is totally unaware of blank media.
If I check the properties of the drive it shows the disc is full, even if it has already informed me of no disc inserted although there is one there..
Have tried the diagnostic software from Dell but does not flag any faults.
Everytime I put a disk into my laptop and try to load it, it tells me the disk is blank. I have tried putting in a blank disk for itunes to burn a cd and when I tried to burn it the drive opened and told me to insert a disk. So then I tried even a different brand of blank disks and still had no luck. I have also put in a actual cd and a cd for a program in but when I tried to run them the drive opened and said to please insert a disk. I'm not sure why its doing this. It was working perfectly fine a couple days before. I have typed "regedit" and deleted the upper and lower filters and then restarted the computer, I have used the control panel to uninstall the drive and then restarted the computer, I have made sure my drive was up-to-date and it said it was, and I have even tried restarting the computer while holding the eject button until the computer was loaded.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought an SSD for my Insiron 3737 along with a caddy so I can replace the CD-RW with a 2nd hard drive. The laptop came by default with a WD 1TB hard drive which I removed and replaced with the new Intel SSD, the WD drive took the place of the CD-RW.
At first I had trouble booting when the WD drive was connected since that one had Windows installed on it as well. After formatting the WD drive I can now boot but a new problem occurs. Windows sees the WD drive a healthy, ready to use drive for a few seconds or minutes after booting and then the hard drive simply vanishes from Disk Management.
I checked the caddy even took it back to where I bought it from so they can check if it's faulty but it seems that's not the problem.
why the WD drive isn't recognized?
I've had my L520 for over a year now and have not previously needed to burn stuff to disk, so I do not know if my problem is new or old.
Essentially the drive recognises disks when they are inserted and accurately displays files already on the disk, but it gives available space as nil regardless of disk or existing file size. Additionally if a blank disk is inserted it will say that the disk cannot be read and to try formatting. These are standard preformatted disks I'm using.
I have been on Acer's support website but still can't figure out which driver I should update to fix my DVD drive, which does not respond to CD's or DVD's when inserted, even though Autoplay is set.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have replaced the hard drives with new blank ones, but I cannot now reinstall Vista from the Reinstallation DVD because no drives are seen.
I have updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but still no joy.
I have taken out the drives and, using an external HDD port, can access them from another PC, so I'm certain there's no issues with the drives themselves.
I've tried Paragon 2010 Suite, but even that cannot "see" the drives, so I'm deducing that it's an issue peculiar to this Dell model.
I bought my E15 without dvd-r, I cant access to the bios pressing F2.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 1750 that will not recognize the hard drive. I have done the on-board diagnostics and the preboot assessment says that no diagnostic utility partition identified. I am hoping that I just need to replace the hard drive, but I did not make a restore disc before it crashed. Which of the drivers I need to restore the computer to it's factory settings.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am with the following problem. My notebook dell inspiron 15r, win7, 64-bit does not recognize the connection via USB from my Samsung Galaxy Y GT S5360.On other computers I tested, usually win7 and winXP, 32bit usb connection to the phone works normally, using the same phone and the same cable. However on my dell laptop not working and not in another dell notebook like mine who also got in both the connection does not work. What I did and did not work:I used the program from Samsung KIES update drivers to try and gain access to the phone.I downloaded the drivers and installed samsung separated, but also without success.I uninstalled all USB drivers and let windows install them again. When I connected my phone, the driver was updated to UNKNOW DEVICE DRIVER, or upgraded to unknown device and continued not working.Already have activated / deactivated by phone usb debugging. It is seen that the problem is with my dell notebook for notes in other pcs and works normal, probably with drivers, however I can not install them and not find them available for download.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo for the past month or so, my D830 has been getting incredibly hot - something it has never done before. In fact, I used to 'brag' about how cool and quiet it was.
Now, about 20 - 30 minutes into computing, it's fans whirl at full speed and the entire bottom and right palm area get very, very, hot - even when the notebook is on a hard, flat surface.

I have Acer Laptop. Yesterday nite, I use the hotkey FN + F6 to off the monitor only to save power, and it work fine. But suddenly the screen is on again.
Then I tried to Fn + F6 again, and this hotkey is not working anymore.
Other hot keys, like Fn + F5 to lock the mousepad is still working.
I have tried to restart the laptop, but Fn + F6 still not working.
I did some searching, but couldn't find anything directly related to this problem.
Basically -- salesmen sold me on the the "this dell has a blu-ray in it", and i'd recently upgraded to an HDMI setup for my home theater, so i though -- why the hell not.
I've never had blu-ray before, so i only have one disk - Wall-E -, and well, it won't play.
As far as i can tell -- my dell has no idea that i've just fed it a blu-ray.
What' the deuce? Does this peice of need to go back?
we have not been able to use the usb ports on our 5100-3123.
How has anyone who has run into this issue dealt with it.

We are having to make do and defer hardware purchases. We have tried to add RAM to a Latitude D610 to improve user performance. There is a 2GB stick plus a 512K stick. It seems that A06 (10/12/2005) is the most recent BIOS version. BIOS only recognizes 2GB. Windows recognizes 2.5GB, but states can only use 2GB.
Is there anything that can be done so that it could recognize the 2.5GB or even 4GB ( 2 x 2GB), within the 32 bit windows limitations of course?
I've just ordered M6400 with an Anit-glare RGB LED screen.
Could You give me a hint how to check that I recived correct version.
(I chosed this screen as it was recommended by many people and never saw it on my own eyes)
I'm working on a Precision M90 for a friend. I've reinstalled the OS and all drivers from the Dell website.
The problem I'm having is that even before reinstalling everything, the computer is not recognizing the battery.
I've tried searching and came up with nothing. It doesn't show up in the BIOS or anywhere else. None of the lights on the battery are showing up either.
The indicator on the laptop shows that it's in trickle charge mode, but this is clearly not happening. When I unplug the AC Adapter, it dies within a couple minutes.
The computer will run without the battery installed on AC power only. I tried to flash the BIOS, but of course I can't because the computer cannot recognize the battery.
So my laptop has been taking a crap lately. First the power supply broke and had to get a new one and now the battery is down to 30-40 minutes. I bought a 9 cell battery off ebay and just got it in. I plugged it in and the laptop says "Battery not recognized, will not charge." Whats up with it? Is there a way to get it charging? I don't have the money to buy the $200 battery from Dell.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently was given an HP dv2125nr laptop that needed a new motherboard. I purchased a new one and replaced it and the laptop was up and running. I was happy and figured that I had just salvaged a decent laptop.
When I first turned it on I noticed it wouldn't run off battery power but thought, no big deal it just needs charged. That turned out to not be the case. I went about reinstalling the operating system using the recovery partition and didn't give much thought to running it on battery til I noticed that the power icon said "On AC Power, Charging" It didn't give me a percentage however, and when I double clicked to inpect further I noticed that the battery icon under battery #1 had an X through it, and it also said "Total Battery Power remaining: Unknown".
At this point I updated the BIOS because I had seen a few forum topics that suggested this, I also made sure I had the most up to date drivers off HP's site for all hardware. Another step I took was to uninstall the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" then scan for hardware changes and let Windows reinstall it. None of this worked.
I then assumed I had a bad battery on my hands, I ordered another one (not an HP, a cheaper one) and when it came I plugged it in overnight to charge and after about 12 hours turned the laptop back on to see if I had a fully charged battery, I did not!
It was acting in exactly the same way the original battery had acted. The only difference that I could notice was, that on one of my many reboots the icon under battery #1 in the Power Meter window only had a single red slash through it, instead of a red X.
Things I have tried:
1. Updated BIOS
2. Updated all drivers
3. Fresh install of Windows XP (again after the original recovery install)
4. Unistalling the "ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in Device Manager.
5. Ran HP Battery Check Utility, has a divide by zero exception upon startup, then says no battery is present.
6. Booting directly to BIOS and allowing it a chance to charge overnight.
7. Swapping both batteries (no difference).
8. Taking back apart casing to make sure there were no loose wires.
My only thought next would be that either both batteries are bad (seems unlikely) or that there is a problem with the new motherboard. The motherboard being bad would surprise me, as it is able to run just fine without using battery power.
I have a new y510p I just received this week. First thing I did was replace the 1TB HD with my own OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD Drive. When I power on the laptop for the first time, it does not find a bootable device (goes through network devices, then says no bootable devices). If I use ctrl-alt-delete to reboot the laptop, it then finds the drive on its own and starts booting into Windows.
I'd like to understand why this does not work on the first boot? I went into the BIOS and saw it says there that no drives are detected. This worries me slightly, as perhaps one day it will decide to no longer recognize the drive after the ctrl-alt-delete?
I have an xps12 that doesn't recognise its adaptor, runs fine on AC but batter is now totally dead. I tried a different Dell 45W adaptor (borrowed) and it charged the battery, I then bought a cheaper 3rd part adaptor - which also worked for a week or so.
Now am back to unrecognised adaptor, no charging. BIOS is version AO8 but even if there is an update I can't install since my battery is on zero. Battery utility (Fn F3) indicates my battery is healthy and performing normally, but charging is disabled and I don't see any obvious way to enable it.
Just reformatted my R51 with Windows XP again and I cannot get it to recognize the Ethernet Drivers.
I got the 2 possible drivers from the IBM website and not one of them says it's correct.
What am I doing wrong?
The Network Card was working OK before formatting, as I was on the internet with it.
