My dv5 mute light is always red... I touch it and the sound stops but it keep red. I use Vista Home Premium 32 and I recently installed ASIO4ALL and a external soundcard (even if it's not connected right now).
I've been having this problem ever since I upgraded to Windows 7.
Even when the computer isn't muted, the light is orange, and doesn't change when I touch the button.
I have all the latest updates from the HP website and I can't seem to figure out why this is happening. Its not really a big deal for me, but it's just annoying.
While the computer is booting up, the mute light is white, but after Windows loads, it turns to orange.
my mute button at the top of my computer functions, but does not change color when i mute or unmute something i'm watching or listening to. it does however make a popping noise and change color at what seems like random, just when clicking through websites. it will change color and making this popping noise but it won't actually mute. the color changing is not really an issue for me it's just the random "pop" sound i get that can get very annoying and have no idea how to get it running again properly. it's been like this for several weeks and can't trace it back to anything i've done around that time.
I just received my HP DV6t from HP, overall i love the machine except for one issue. When i press the mute button on screen my speakers pop/crackle ever so often Its annoying the hell out of me. It only happens when the stupid mute light is on. It crackles when a program opens. is this to remind me my computer is on mute or something. If i lower the volume all the way down no crackle. This thing is just weird.
I have an Acer Aspire 5740G running Win 7. I am really rather pleased with after my HP Pavilion.
I do have one gripe (OK, more than one, but this is the one that niggles most often).
Is there a way to assign Mute to the P button?
Yes, I know I can click on the speaker icon in the tray or press Fn+F8, but there really needs to be a one-button solution for when the phone rings or someone walks in unexpectedly.
I am using an HP envy 4 notebook PC about three days old. After updating everything from windows update and from HP, the mute button no longer lights up on the keyboard when I have the sound muted. I can see that it is muted from the taskbar in the corner, but it usually lights up orange after it has been muted, and now it no longer is.
Having kind of a strange problem with my lappy and Win7. My mute button has no reaction on pressing it while all other media buttons still do their actions. Does someone also have the same issue as mine with m1330 and Win7 ?
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 QuickSet and Sigmatel drivers for Vista x64 installed (Had same issue with Windows 7 default audio drivers)
when I woke up my HP Pavilion dv6 7010tx notebook (running windows 8 pro 64-bit) from sleep, I noticed that it had lost all sound. Audio tracks cannot be played on any media player, videos play intermittently without any audio, and there is no sound whatsoever irrespective of the program/application being run. Restarting the notebook doesn't fix this.
Also noteworthy is that pressing the f11 (mute) key doesn't do anything. The LED on the key remains off, the volume indication is shown on screen as it does while changing volume using f9 and f10 keys, however it doesn't show any mute/mute off indication as it should when functioning properly.
My laptop is a HP Envy TS 15 Notebook Product number: F5C62EA. When I press the mute button on my keyboard the light does not appear but the laptop is muted.
I have a new W540, and the microphone mute button does not work properly. When I press fn+f4. the red LED turns on, the slashed out microphone appears on the screen, and the volume settings for both the "Microphone" and "External Mic" are muted in Windows. However, audio from the microphones still capture audio, and it can be recorded on applications like Audacity and Skype.
Manually muting the microhphones via the Sound dialog in Windows has the same effect. The LED and OSD come on, but the microphone does not stop recording. As of now, I have found no way to mute the microphone outside of muting sound input in each individual applicaton.
Recently purchased a refurb HP Elitebook 8440p, and noticed that even though the mute button works the quick key just above the keyboard is always orange. Is there a way for me to correct this so it shows orange only when muted and green when not muted?
the microphone mute button doesn't work, nor does it light up at all... the speaker mute button works. Also, the Lenovo button next to it USED to work and now doesn't for some unknown reason. I have a new x1 carbon with windows 8.1 and really need some specific direction on how to troubleshoot this!
I'm not sure if it's caused by the Windows 8 update from a few days back, but the problem started around then.
The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.
Laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC running Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit.
I've seen some other people mentioning a problem like this recently...
I took delivery of a HDX16 - 1030EA last week. The MUTE button works but does not go white, it is continually red even when sound is playing. I have uninstalled the quick launch software & re-installed same. No difference.
I am running Vista home premium 64 & used the 64 drivers.
I have a problem with my microphone mute button on my T410. It does not mute the microphone when pressed. I verified this by opening the Sound settings in Control Panel and the fact that the amber light doesn't come on to indicate it is muted. When I mute the microphone through the Control Panel Sound option, the light does not come on either.
This started happening after a reinstall of Windows. I made sure to install all the software and driver updates using the Lenovo Driver and Software update tool. I also individually downloaded and installed the Conexant drivers, too.
my laptop model is hp pavilion sleekbook 14-b065tx after installing windows 7 64 bit and also after updating the drivers the mute indication LED does not working. But its function is working. But other Led indications are fine. What would be the problem for this.

I have a problem with my notebook. When I power my device everything is fine, but after ... let's several minutes sound disappears. The strange thing is that "mute button" on my keyboard is not responding too, when I hit it theres no orange light and one the screen appears a lvl of volume ( normally it should be a crossed volume lvl). When I want to play Spotify or something like that it says that my Audio card is used by another program... The funny thing is that when I did something like "stress test" (I played Spotify when sound worked just after system start) sound was working for about 6 hours and everything was fine.
System: Windows 8 Model: Notebook HP Pavilion g6-2310sw
Also I'd like to add that every system restart fixes that problem but only for a while (several minutes).
For a while now the mute button on my dv6-2155dx laptop stays orange all the time - whether the sound is muted or unmuted. How do I fix this?? It works when you press it, the color just never changes...
I've recently installed Windows 8 on an SL500 Lenovo ThinkPad. One of the three messages in Action Center is a problem with the hotkey utility. Lenovo's Support page recommended installing gevu65ww.exe. The current version is 4.22.1000. After this is installed, I click on "finish" and get the notice that "this program does not support this system. The volume/mute buttons next to the keyboard have not worked since upgrading to Windows 8. The Windows 8.1 has the same problem.
