Because I did a fresh install for windows 7, I used a operating disc, meaning I had to download the drivers on here. The problem is, where do I download the option to let me use recovery? Its like a black window prompt the gives me the options. I have home edition. Wheres the link to download.

I need to find a working AHCI driver (Windows XP) for my Elitebook 8570p. I want do use both Windows 7 and XP on it but I can't install windows XP while in AHCI mode. I've tried to use the driver posted in here: [URL] ..... but that did not work for me. I just get bluescreen when I try to install, I've tried all 4 verisions of the driver but none works. I boot on the dvd and press f6 to add the driver before the installation but I need some other driver......

The laptop was a gift from my father-in-law in Poland. As a result Dell would not provide service. Warranty is now expired.
New Elitebook 850 G1. Started set up. Wrote down recovery key. Set up security. Installed Mozilla Firefox. Shut down. Later when starting up, computer went immediately to f11 and driver encryption recovery. Tried typing in recovery key but got message "file does not exist". Went into BIOS to change password...still not accepted. I have a brand new computer that is useless.

According to the users guide I have to press the Novo button and click on system backup. Well I pressed the Novo button and there was only System Restore; no backup option. Is the manual wrong or is there something else I have to install first?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased my T420 one year ago and have sufficiently "hosed it up" to the point I wanted to do a factory restore. I saved all my data then proceeded to create the CDs from the Q drive factory restore. I followed the instructs for more and more CDs and once I got up to #12 I noted that the time it was taking to create them was down from several minutes to several seconds. When I got to CD number 18 I thought "this is ridicules" and I popped CD 11 back in to look at its content (via Windows Explorer). I noted it had two folders: 1) Factory restore (or something like that) which was over 500 MB in size and 2) something about data. This "data" folder contained 1 KB of data. I then looked at all subsequent CDs (12-18) and they all only contained this data file. So, rather than continuing to make these (basically empty CDs) I stopped.
I then put the first CD in and rebooted the machine. The factory restore started and I swapped CDs until I got to 12. I put 12 in and it said the required data was not present and to insert the next CD. I did this until I ran out of the CDs I had created. I had to "X" out of the restore app and now when I boot I get nothing but a dimly lit screen and a flickering hard drive light! Am I totally hosed here? How many CDs would it have required had I kept making them? I am ( obviously) a novice.
I am trying to bring my inspiron 560 desktop to factory settins but its not giving me the option for Dell Data Safe during system recovery. I have the recovery disks that I prepared when I first purchased the computer but I don't know how to do it with the CDs...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got the Elitebook 850 G1 and I've put all the settings to sleep when I close the lid and wake up when I open it. I've checked both settings in windows and in the BIOS and it's all good but when I actually do it, it doesn't wake up but restarts the computer instead. So when I've been typing away on Word, I constantly save it but it doesn't go back to where I left it. I thought it was one of the graphics drivers at first, because it has dual graphics, intel and ati. It's had some issues with the ATI but I think I've fixed it. I'm running windows 8.1 Pro.
I tried changing the settings to hibernate instead and what it gave me was a BSOD. Video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. i remember it did that the first time i tried to do it before when it was on sleep mode.
I recently bought the upgrade but this is the first time I am upgrading Windows as I usually do clean installs. Is there anything I should pay attention to? Are the drivers already there for Win7 and are there any known issues?

I installed the Bluetooth driver downloaded from HP but the Wireless Asistant still showing my Bluetooth as disable, I can not enable and the caption say "This device has been disabled in the computer setup utility and cannot be enabled from Wireless Assistant.
The Bluetooth icon is also missing in Control Panel tray.
I just received a new HP EliteBook 840 G1 and i'm trying to use the biometric finger print device. I'm on win8 x64, Ive installed the drivers:

Installed HP simplepass 6.0.100.276
But the i can't enable the windows logon, it keeps telling me my password is wrong (which is not true)...And the biometric reader is not recognized in the control panel...

I have a EliteBook 8730w sinds 2010 and I just installed Windows 8.1.Now I don't have any access to my SD reader.According to the device manager the SD reader driver is up to date and is working, but I don't see the SD reader in the file explorer.The SD reader is a RICOH.In the device manager I have some problems with Other devices:
1) Base system device
2) Base system device
3) Fingerprint sensor
4) Unknown device
I suppose that the problem must be in Other devices.
I have an HP Elitebook 8530w with Windows 7 32-bit. I did not buy this laptop, it was a gift from a friend. I have gotten recently, just a few days ago. I have not used the fingerprint sensor previously before today. I went on the HP site and went to get the driver for the fingerprint sensor. Here is the link to that page. I tried to install the AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver but it did not work, it said the installation process was interuppted and to try again later. So I tried again later and the same happened. So I uninstalled and checked to see if there were any later versions. I had not looked to see that the original one I installed from the drivers page was from March 17 2010.
I did some researching around and found version 6.0.100.272 of HP Simplepass (The AuthenTec Driver had HP Simplepass installation included). I installed this version and it worked. I opened it up and it prompted me to enter my windows account password. So I did. I then clicked Set Up Windows Log On and it told me to enter my Windows password again. I did but it didn't work So I tried again... and again... and again... It didn't work no matter how many times I tried. I tried restarting my laptop and changing my account password. Neither worked. So I'm confused as to what could be the problem. I would very much like to use this feature.

In the end, I used a clean installation as the upgrade option ended up with a fail error. However, after doing the clean install, it can't detect any wifi. When I press enter to "Try again" it come back with:
File:WindowsSystem32winload.efi above the error code listed above.
I have tried the Recovery and after MUCH time waiting, it still comes back to the above mentioned screen. I have also run all the diagnostics that are available on the laptop and everything come back normal. I don't have the original discs or documentation as I "received this laptop as a "gift/curse" . It is, however, registered to me.
I got a thinkpad w530 with Windowd 8 from the factory and its ultrabay worked really well. I use a few SSDs in the ultrabay and used to swap through them by just ejecting the one currently in use and plugging in another one. However, since Wondows 8.1 update I haven.t been able to do so, as I have to turn off the machine and change the drives.
I believe it has something to do with the OS set up. How to enable the hot swapping capability of the ultrabay?
