HP Pavilion G6 2270dx Lockups :: Windows 8.1 Unresponsive Desktop

Sep 29, 2014

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 from 8, and it will start up to the main desktop but has a constant loading hourglass running,  and cannot click on anything,  no icons responsive,  only ctrl/all delete.  It did say my amd graphics driver couldn't be found. My screen also blinks blue and back to desktop like it is possessed.

HP Pavilion G7-2296nr Lockups :: Windows 8.1 Continually Restarts Desktop

Aug 23, 2014

I've tried a hard reset (pulling battery, unplugging power cord and holding power button for 20 seconds), then reinstalled battery, plugged in power cord and started laptop by hitting esc and checking all of the parameters listed - (running tests offered - all came back okay). I tried to do a safe restart with the F8 key, but it did not accept and went to normal startup. What am I missing?

I can't get the screen to stabilize long enough to get a lock on an icon for opening a program or the main page.

HP Pavilion G7-2235dx Networking :: Icons On Desktop Stopped Working / When Click On Them - It Goes Right Back To Desktop

Oct 22, 2014

I have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.

HP ProBook G2 430 Lockups :: Trackpad Left Button Unresponsive Intermittently

Oct 19, 2014

I have a brand new ProBook 430 G2 (SKU # G6W35EA#ABB) with Windows 8.1, fully updated. I find that every 10-15 minutes, the left button on the trackpad becomes unresponsive. The trackpad still moves the mouse pointer and the right button continues to work, but the left button does not react. This lasts for several minutes, perhaps 3-4. Then the left button resumes working as if nothing had happened. Since the button resumes working, I suspect it is more likely to be a software issue with the driver or Windows 8.1.

I have Synaptics TouchPad driver version 18.1.8.1, the current version of the driver.
I have Windows 8.1 version 6.3.9600.
I have Bios version HP M74 version 1.03 (07/07/2014)

HP Envy M4-1015dx Lockups :: Battery Dies During Heavy Program Use - Near Unresponsive / Very Slow Thereafter

Jun 10, 2014

On my HP Envy M4-1015dx laptop, I was editing a large image file in Photoshop, likely using a large amount of the scratch disk. In the background I had another Adobe program running though I had not engaged the application in the couple hours prior. Google Chrome web browser was also open in the background, with admittedly a lot of tabs open. So, the load on the computer/processor? was definitely heavy.

At this point, the battery died and the computer subsequently shut down. I plugged in a power source shortly after, and pressed the power button to turn the laptop on. The laptop booted and went to the welcome screen, I entered my password and the laptop got stuck on the "Welcome" screen that loads prior to opening to the desktop.

I pressed the power button to turn off the laptop and again to turn it on. At this point everything loaded extremely slowly. The screen where I enter the password moved extremely slow, taking at least 5 - 10 minutes to accept my keypresses and start loading the desktop.

Using any other application did not work, they became unresponsive. Attempting a system restore took over 30 minutes just to set a restore point and "prepare" the computer for a system restore. I was never able to complete a restore, I got an error during the preparation process.

It seems like the processor is just overloaded with even the smallest tasks now.

HP Pavilion G6-2123us :: Whole Touchpad Is Unresponsive

Dec 10, 2014

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a Pavilion g6-2123us I purchased in 2012.  For quite a while now I've had some annoying problems with my touchpad. And it's been getting more and more common as time continues.  When these events happen, the whole touchpad is unresponsive, including the on/off buttion, as if the device had been simply unplugged.  I have tried a wide variety of things to fix it including uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers multiple times using the most up-to-date drivers from both the HP and Synaptics websites.I have gone to the "mouse properties" in control panel and used the reset devices which worked quite well.  Some times, just putting the computer to sleep for a short period of time will do the job too.  However, as time continues, these things work less and less.  Could it just be an internal hardware issue with a loose connection?  Or, just an overtired device? I've replaced and updated the drivers multiple times, so I know that option wont do the job.

HP Pavilion 15-n268sa Lockups :: CPU Temps Over 90 Just With Windows 8.1 Running?

Aug 27, 2014

I have had this laptop 2 days and today its doing all sorts of strange things. Several times it has gone black screen (not shutdown, just like it had the battery yanked out and lost power). I had one message that there was a problem and windows had to shutdown and gave an error like 0xa0000001 or something.

But even before i had this i was worried. Some of the first things i did was install some benchmark programs. speccy, cpuid, gpu-z. cpuid doesn't show the temps, but speccy showed the cpu cores all running at 80-90 just with windows sitting doing nothing. it highlights anything over 80 as red. gpu-z shows the dual graphics with similar but about 5 degrees lower temps and shows the amd radeon hd 8670M card as far lower temps. a fan inside seems to be on and when temps get above 95 seems to go into high gear. but i have seen speccy showing temps of 106 C!

i think this is what is causing the laptop to blackout and restart; temps going over 105 for any time at all. in short it runs windows, with occasionally even with psu plugged in dimming of the laptop screen. but try and run something, such as an internet connection, plugging anything into usb ports that is powered from the laptop, or browsing the web - not even watching video or streaming just google search! - and the temps jump up to mid 90s or higher.

HP Pavilion Dv6-1107X Lockups :: Constant Beeps Then Windows Boot Manager

Jan 14, 2014

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1107X Entertainment Series notebook. When I turn it on I get an inconsisent series of very loud short beeps nearly always in 3 groups. First group can be 4 to 6 beeps. Second group can be 1 or 2. Third group just goes on and on until the Windows Boot Manager pops up.  Once I select the Vista operating system everything appears to start working as normal.

Here is what I have done:
1. Replaced motherboard and CPU
2. Checked and tested hard drive  by diagnostic and in another machine - okay
3. Have used a known good hard drive in this machine - same symptoms, no change.
4. Checked and tested RAM stick in both slots, by diagnostic test and on another machine - okay
5. Did a Factory Default recovery - Operating System (OS) behaved erratically.
6. Did a Clean Install using another machine - OS works but same symptoms as above with beeps and Windows Boot Manager.
7. Installed all required drivers as required in Device Manager  (after a LOT of problems trying to find the HP driver download support - I had to search for HP Compaq Pavilion dv6-1107AX to find a site that linked to the driver downloads).
8. Have run AVG anti virus, and 3 x anti spyware (Malwarebytes, Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware). Nil bugs founds.
9. Reset BIOS to defaults.

Am also having problems from time to time access BIOS. It takes several attempts but can be gained by pressing F10 immediately after the first screen with ESC option on it.  Also have problems access Safe Mode using F8 but perseverance is required and it will work eventually.

HP Pavilion 17-f114dx Display :: No Desktop After Boot Up And Log In

Jan 22, 2015

I have owned my new HP Pavilion 17 17-f114dx for only a month and it has worked great up to today.  When I start it, it now takes slightly longer to boot up and log in.  When I log in, I should see my desktop, but instead, I get a blank screen.  I am able to see my cursor.  I pressed control alt delete to see if anything looked abnormal and I am able to get to my task manager.  Things looked fine to me.  I am also able to right click a process and select "show location in folder" by doing this, it does bring up the folder.  I can navigate to my internet browser from there, and still get online to post this, but my desktop is not there.

I have not installed any new hardware.  The only software changes that I made were an installation of a game and I tried to update my version of Adobe Flash Player which was unsuccessful for some reason. I have tried doing a hard reset twice with no luck and also tried plugging it into my TV and nothing has worked.

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion Dv9500 - Desktop Screen Was Frozen With Mouse Cursor

Jan 7, 2010

I have a HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook and yesterday after more than two years of pretty much running smoothly it wouldn't boot. First it actually booted into windows but the whole desktop screen was frozen with mouse cursor. So I turned it off, turned it back on and it booted into blue screen and restarted itself. After couple of tries I booted into safe mode which was running fine.

I wasn't sure what the problem was but I was thinking it must be software related, so I loaded an image of my system which I've used before and knew was ok. But even after putting a brand new OS it was doing the same thing.

One time I was actually able to boot into normal mode so I thought maybe the issue got resolved magically. But, I have my external monitor plugged in and even when in normal mode the signal wouldn't go through, so I had to use my laptop monitor. I kept trying to switch the signal and even though it was showing the icon like it's transferring nothing happened. So I checked my video card properties and the card all of the sudden had no drivers and was basically unrecognized by the OS.

Apple :: Any Programs To Split Windows Evenly On The Desktop

Feb 5, 2010

I think that this feature is really nice in Windows 7 how you are able to split two different windows evenly on the desktop by just dragging each window to the left and right side.

With that being said, are there any programs/apps out there that can mimic this feature for Mac? Specifically the latest OS Snow Leopard?

TwoUp was program capable of doing this but has been discontinued.

Any fellow Mac NBRers know any others?
