I bought two of these laptops (Acer E5-471P CI3 4GB 500GB 14 Inch Touch Laptop - Black. - [URL] .... as Christmas presents.
Â
Both are having issues with the trackpad where it will randomly freeze or the pointer will disappear. At first my mother thought it was just being slow and freezing all the time. I had a look and found that the touch screen worked fine when the mouse froze or disappeared. Now, immediately I assumed it to be a driver issue, so I updated the trackpad driver.Â
Â
I can't find any info on this and even though I bought the week before christmas ACER are saying my warrenty has run out and I don't have the time to find a scanner to scan my receipt. I am a day or two away from returning this laptop if no solution can be found.
Â
This freezing happens ALOT, to the point my mother is using the 4 year old dusty laptop with missing keys. I assume it's something to do with the touchscreen and the trackpad interfering with one another.

Laptop starts, shuts itself off. Sometimes will boot to Windows, then shut off. Now, obviously this thing is toast. But look at that thing..what's with the wire? What's with the huge blob of solder? Did somebody just cobble something up here so it would at least still power on, giving some hope of fixing it? Does anybody here think it's fixable if I replaced that chip? Is it a power mosfet? Sorry no pics of the reverse side as I haven't "progressed" to that point yet.

I have a hp pavilion dv5-1170ei and it had problems with the audio and the quick launch buttons after upgrading to Win 7. I decided to update the bios because that was the only thing that i had not updated. Now the computer is frozen with the BIOS update still running. I once had the same problem with a dv5-1199ei and it worked fine after upgrading the BIOS. By the way i upgraded from Vista Home premium to Win 7 Ultimate.

HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC.
Windows 8.
Â
So I've had my laptop for roughly around 9 months and I have started having trouble with it about 2 months after I got it. Although it may not be entirely the laptops fault as I think the person who sold it to me just wanted a quick sale because it does the bare minimum of what I expect it to do.
Â
But lately to my great annoyance the audio has stopped working...for everything. Nothing I've tried has worked and every so often it will at random the sound will be back on again. It's done this on occassion about 5 months after I bought it and I didn't think anything of it but now it's happening everday and is driving me nuts!
Â
I've tried uninstalling the sound and restarting but that doesn't do anything double and triple checked that nothing is on mute, I've used VLC, youtube and Windows Media Player to test it out and still nothing. In the control panel it says the sound is working but it's not. I've also tried putting in headphones and there isn't any sound from the headphones either.

I have owned my g6 notebook for five or six years. A few months ago I noticed that if I unplug it from the power adaptor it will work fine awhile then suddenly crash. This happens even with the battery fully charged.Â
Â
I am considering buying a new battery, but I don't want to waste the money if it is a different problem since the battery seems fine.

I'm using a HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC running on Windows 8 64bit. About a week ago, my sound is randomly disappearing and I have to restart my laptop each time. Then, the sound works like normal, but when I don't use my laptop for some time (while it is still on), and I start a movie or something, the sound doesn't work. When I click the sound bar on the bottem-right corner, there's no green bar indicating sound.I've tried reinstalling sound drivers and reselecting a standard sound device, but nothing seems to work.

I was initially trying to get my DVD to play blu rays. I downloaded a different player and uninstalled the HP mediasmart dvd. This didn't work so I deleted the new player and went into restore system to an earlier time and did so. After I restarted my computer it began randomly turning off and by that I mean the screen. It goes black. I click enter or left clidk the mouse (this seems to prompt it) then after 5 seconds or so the lights on the right side start blinking and the display returns. This has happened before and I forget the solution. Also, my battery died about a month ago so I removed it.Â

The model is a HP Pavilion 15-n278sa. My laptop shuts down randomly when it is clearly completely cool, when it has shutdown, the power button will not respond, and the laptop will flash on, and shutdown immediately if it is moved/picked up/tilted, while it is off.The laptop is increasingly getting more unstable and I'm unable to use it...

Model: Acer Aspire 4720-4538
The CPU fan is totally off when the CPU temp is under 55°C (according to Everest). Once it's over 55°C, it goes onto its low setting. Somewhere higher up, it goes to its high setting.
The problem: Even just browsing the web and doing light desktop work (IM, Explorer, Word), the CPU temp creeps up to 55°C pretty easily. Once it does, the fan shoots on, but it only takes about 3 seconds to get to below 55°C, so it shuts off again. Without the fan, the temp goes up past 55°C again, and the cycle restarts.
The result is an on-off-on-off-on-off fan that turns on or stays off for only about 2-5 seconds at a time. REALLY annoying, esspecially in an otherwise quiet library environment. I can see people looking over at me with a "what the f is wrong with your computer" look.
I've updated the BIOS to its latest as of this date (Jan 06 2009) on the Acer site (3810), that didn't help any.
I've read (on this site) that Acer uses something propertiary to control their fan, causing normal fan control software to not work on Acer's.
Does anybody know of any software that will let me control the speed of the fan? I tried the fan control software for the Acer Aspire One, which didn't seem to work.

I have an Acer 1350, when I press the power button the CPU fan comes on for five seconds or so, but the screen doesn't come on, and the hard drive doesn't seek. If I leave it on, after a few minutes the CPU fan comes on again, so obviously part of it is working, but it just won't boot up.
The screen is definitely working fine because I've tested it on another Acer 1350, the hard drive is fine as well, also tested on another Acer 1350, the memory is fine, ditto.

I have a dv6000 and I have been finding lately that I need to restart the laptop 3 times in order for everything to work. First time I can't click on any icons. Restart. Second time when I run my mouse over the start icon the hour glass appears and I can't activate ctr,alt delete. Restart. Third time the wireless does not start. Then I proceed to reboot and and start and things run fine. Weird. Rebooting is done by holding the power button down.

I have a problem with my Acer V5-573, 6 months old.
Â
Some days ago it did not start when pressing the start button. I removed the charger and tried again, still nothing. Then i removed the backside to get access to the battery. I removed the battery and tried connecting just the charger.
Â
That causes the laptop to start for 2 seconds like normally, the fans start for like 1 second and then just shuts down and the start button wont work again. This happens every time I connect the charger and it's off battery.
Â
Sometimes when I press the start button and works and starts like it should and then at a random time it shuts down once again. Mostly it just doesnt react to the start button.
Â
I haven't replaced or modified the original hardware.

I've been experiencing kind of a problem with my Acer 2420 laptop. When I start up its usually pretty fast, but eventually it begins to slow down to the point where I have to restart the system completely. I have it running Windows Vista Home Edition at 512MB of ram, 1.5Ghz.
Its really weird because sometimes when I unplug the charger it works again but after I plug it back in, like 10 minutes later it starts slowing down again. I can't figure it out.

I have a N5110 that just recently started acting up.When I turn it on, it shows me the dell screen and then it tries to boot windows but then it turns off right away. Sometimes it gets far enough to show me a black screen with white lettering that says windows boot manager and wants me to select windows 7 as the operating system but when I try to hit enter to select it, the laptop wont respond and it turns off.
I tried pressing f12 and running diagnostics. Sometimes it will respond and let me get to the blue boot device screen but then it stops responding and wont let me run the diagnostic, then it turns off.
This also happened yesterday but after a few tries i was able to run the diagnostic and it came back saying everything was great, then my laptop rebooted and worked just fine. But today when I try to turn it on it wont work, I have been at it for over an hour.also, when i try to boot it, it will sometimes give me beep codes: 2 beeps, then 1 long beep. It only has time to do this once before it turns off.

Yesterday when trying to "wake" my laptop from sleep mode, the screen stayed black but the cursor would move around. I tried restarting the computer by holding down the power button. The laptop starts up as normal - see the Dell logo and Windows logo, but then when the desktop would normally appear, it is just a black screen. Again, the white cursor shows and it moves around the black screen when I move the mouse - which leads me to believe it's not a screen issue. The keyboard also works because when I hit the CD Eject key, the door opened.  I tried a few of the F12 and F8 options but it hasn't worked. I just need the computer to start up one more time so that I can move all of my files to an external hard drive.

I have problem with my dell 1525. After a full battery discharge, I plugged the power and tried to turn it on. All the lights turn on, but after a second it goes silent and I cannot see anything on the screen even the dell logo.
I also tried to remove the battery and the power cord, pressed the power button for 30sec, doesn't work.Later today I will try to remove the RAM and then install it one by one to see if the problem may be caused by bad RAM , but I doubt that this is the solution.Â

I have recently purchased Lenovo G50-70 laptops for my office. One of them started to act awkward from yesterday. When I tried to switch it ON, it starts for and then immediately (less than 1 sec)  turns off. I have tried to start it several times. I have tried to removed battery, RAM and then tried directly on power, but of no use.
Â
Yesterday it started once and then I was able to use it for like 4 hours, but it didn't starts today morning.

I haven't set my E6400 to sleep or hibernate or anything, just the screen switches off after 5min of no activity.
When i get back to the laptop it freezes/hangs a LOT. It can be anything from blue screen, complete freeze needing a hard reboot, hang for a while before active again, nvidia driver unresponsive and reloading. It changes from happening couple of times a day to not at all for nearly a week.
I had this with the last 3 BIOS versions and i've tried ALL of the nvidia drivers available.
I kept thinking it was the nvidia drivers somehow but it just doesnt matter which ones i'm running.

The USB ports on my 8735G are messed. Everything with my system is fine until I plug something into the USB. After about 30 seconds, the whole computer freezes without any hope of recovery. Only a hard restart fixes it. This happens with mice, USB drives, UDB keys, anything. I tried disabling the power management on USB (selective suspend) and it doesn't help. I've googled the crap outta this and I've tried all the possible fixes and solutions and suggestions I've found. I know the ports or hub are not defective as they will transfer data in small amounts before freezing. However, it will freeze right away (before 30 seconds) if I attempt to transfer anything bigger than 300 MB.

I bought a brand new HP 470 (i5-3230M, 8 GB, 750 GB, AMD 8750M 2 GB) with Linux SUSE operating system. I erased everything and installed Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit (that time still Alpha release). I soon noticed the random freezes (=screen remained as it is, no mouse, nothing) that needed a hard power off (5-sec power button). I thought it was an Alpha issue but nothing improved through continuous updates. Now, Ubuntu 14.04 is LTS and officially released for over a month and I still experience these freezes. They occur always; can be 5 min or 2 hours after boot.
Â
I suspect the ATI's graphic card. I've installed the beta version of the latest drivers (from end of April). They officially support Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS and 13.10 but there were people on the forum claiming it installs also on the 14.04. I risked and succeeded. But... freezes are still there.
Â
I'm OK to use Ubuntu down to version 10.04 (if that solves the problem). It maye be related to kernel version.I don't want to use any Windows version. I'd rather sell the notebook if Windows is a solution.
