Dell :: How Glossy Is The Ultrasharp 1440x900 LED Screen On The E6500/6400

Apr 25, 2009

I'm considering buying a Dell e6400 or Dell e6500. I'd prefer the I'd prefer a 15.4' screen. However, if I get that I feel like I probably should get a higher res than the basic 1280 x 800. Ideally I want 1440 x 900.

The problem is Dell only seems to offer the higher resolution in a glossy screen on either model (at least in Canada) - "UltraSharp™ Wide WXGA+ (1440x900) LED Display-Brushed Metal Black". I spoke to Dell and they said it's something in b/w an anti-glare screen and a consumer glossy screen, but I'm not sure what to make of that.

I'm wondering if anyone has this type of screen and can tell me what their experience has been? How glossy is it?

I mainly will use my laptop for writing and office work - in coffee shops, offices or the library - so I don't like have a screen that is reflective. I much prefer an anti-glare screen. I've thought about just buying the e6400 with the anti-glare 1280x800 LED screen, but like I say, would prefer to get a bigger screen if possible, so wanted to see how glossy these screens really are.

Dell :: Studio 1537, Viewing Angles And Colors On 1280x800 Vs 1440x900

Mar 6, 2009

According to specifications from Dell's web site 1280x800 display has considerably smaller viewing angle than display with 1440x900 resolution,

particularly for vertical angles, which are +15°/–30° for the former and ±45° for the latter model.

Can anyone confirm that difference is this significant in practice as well?

And how do they compare in color and overall image quality, as 1280x800 is LED as well on 1537 according to specifications.

Dell :: Does Not Include A OS CD/DVD Anymore?

Dec 26, 2009

My aunt received a Inspiron 17 notebook for Christmas and when the system booted up for the first time it asked her to create a set of restore disks.

I told her to just cancel it out because Dell always includes it's own drivers cd and os cd with a new computer. Then we go looking through the box and there is no software!

WTF? Dell is now turning into HP and refuses to include what customers are alread paying for?

Dell :: Inspiron 630m Won't Boot Anymore

May 9, 2009

My current Insprion 630m seems terminally ill to me, it will no longer boot into Windows. I could get as far as the XP Welcome screen, but it would just hang whilst logging in.

I can't re-install Windows because the DVD-RW is knackered. It won't work anymore. I tried booting into safe mode but it just crashes.

I think the HDD or some controller on the motherboard could be screwed. Maybe the BIOS is corrupt?
As far as I'm aware the last time I logged in I didn't get any reports of any viruses from my AV software -

Dell Alienware M17x R3 :: Does Not Start Anymore

Apr 26, 2013

i have a problem. a few months ago my dell warranty for my alienware has expired. now all of a sudden, the computer crashed and refuses to turn on again. first it restartet and asked my if i want to strt windows normal or safe mode. i entered normal, as i thought it was jus a crash. it showed the start screen, than all lights went off. no matter what i do, it will not start. hitting the power button, however, makes a very short sound, as if it starts reading from HDD but than nothing. took battery off and waited. back on... nothing.

prior to that it showed a blue screen like it did before, when HDD was useless and had to be replaced september last year. sure the warranty of the computer itself is expired, but i still have a warranty for the new HDD. however, the service tag of the notebook says i can not contact e-mail support, because i have no warranty anymore. i can not choose anything that can change that. i fear the HDD is gone again, which i can have replaced, as it still has warranty, but i can ask no one at support, as they assume i have no warranty left.

HP G61-408CA :: Will Not Turn On Anymore

I have an HP G61-408CA, and it just will not turn on anymore.

The power adaptor indicator light is on, and the battery light (lightning bolt) constantly flashes when the battery is connected. This light will also flash faster for about 1 second when I press the power button. Without the battery, the light obviously does not come on at all.

I've already tried a hard reset. I've tried turning it on with and without the battery, and I've also tried a different power adaptor.

Dell Latitude E5510 :: Booting Into Windows 7 X64 Doesn't Work Anymore

Jan 22, 2013

tried to upgrade my Latitude E5510 from 2x2Gb (factury Samsung) to 2x4Gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9. BIOS updated to Rev. A13, latest. Memory is recognized as 8Gb. But booting into Windows7 X64 doesn't work anymore. If I boot from a Lubuntu CD (x86) it runs, naturally only with approx. 4Gb since this is a x86 OS-version. Windows 7 X64 just reboots. If I use Save Mode a reboot occurs when the loading of "ClassPnP.sys" starts. When I put in the old 2x2Gb everything works perfectly. Can't even get into Windows Setup from a clean DVD.

Acer :: No 14.1" Laptops Anymore

I'd like to know if Acer stopped producing 14.1 Aspire laptops? I tried to find somewhere to buy one, but everywhere they just do have 15.4" or old 14" models!

Even in the Acer.com product list they don't have 14.1 inches Aspire :'(

I hope they didn't discontinued the 14.1", I mean, they are much more portable and cuter than the 15.4"s...

If they did stop the production, do you know an equivalent 14.1 or 13.1" laptop (any other brand, or..) ?

Apple :: Are Macs Really Necessary For Creative Work Anymore

Jan 26, 2009

My friends that are into desktop publishing and graphic design are very pro Mac-centric when it comes to their work. They tell me that Macs are better than PCs (with Windows) when it comes to developing their work.

That may have been the case in the past, but Macs are not really necessary for that line of work anymore. Many applications are now more readily developed for Windows based PCs. On Windows, you get the whole Adobe Creative Suite, many audio manipulation programs superior to Garage Band (i.e. Ableton), and other neat applications. The only thing Macs have over Windows is the excellent Final Cut Pro, although Premiere is more than competent.

Many musicians have been noted to be avid Mac users. However, major pop music producers such as Timbaland and Lil' Jon now develop their music under a Windows-based platform.

Is the Mac necessary (or worth it) for doing this type of work other than the sheer chic and hip factor of Macs?

Apple :: Advantages OSX Have Over Win7 Anymore, Creative Program

Apr 20, 2010

It looks like lightroom and premier has closed the gap in the windows land compared to Aperture and Final Cut. And with OpenCL's focus on using the GPU to boost performance and Apple doing it's very best to off Adobe.... is there any real advantage in software in OSX anymore? Or is it all about familiarity and preference?

I was kind of considering the i5 MBP since I'm more into editing than gaming but honestly, if I can just get a beefy Win7 laptop and run software with the same features that are just as reliable I don't really see the point in spending less for more.
