Dell :: Cracked Screen Of M1330-just Out Of Warranty
May 12, 2009
a while ago i accidentally cracked the screen of my Dell M1330 (im a student by the way it was a present i should have been more carefull with it i know i am gutted )
the laptop itself worked fine for a while after that apart from the blemish of the screen itself,
it was only untill recently that after a while the screen turns a shade of greeen with lines down it then resets itself only to be just white, it works about half the time i try to turn it on now
i was wondering what my best course of action would be, i have heard very bad things about dell's OWR and i cant really afford to pay a lot for repairs?

I purchased a Dell around May 2008, and upon receiving the laptop I noticed that there was an area on the left of the screen that seemed to have an internal protrusion;
whenever I moved the screen that area would have extensive rippling. When viewed from different angles the screen seemed to have a white mark in that area. Since I had had a lot of computer drama with HP back then,
I didn't want to ship back my new Dell right as I got it, and I left it alone. Unfortunately I didn't take any images of the screen.
A couple of weeks ago, I opened my laptop like any other day, only to find that the screen had cracked internally, right where I had suspected the weakness .....

My girlfriend bought an e6400 just over a year ago. We've noticed a small crack on the screen bezel close to the left hand hinge.
The laptop isn't used a great deal and is rarely moved form the table where it sits. I'm positive that the crack is a result of a defect rather than any 'abuse' the system has had.
Naturally I wished to take advantage of the 3 year warranty the machine has, but have just been told on the phone that the screen bezel is not covered.
Apparently:
- I don't have a 'complete care' warranty.
- The regular warranty I have only covers 'parts' of the machine.
- The bezel isn't one of those parts.
The guy on the phone was unable to point me to where the conditions of my warranty are spelt out.
Can anyone advise me on where I stand?

Our 1525 is 6 months old and my daughter opened the laptop at college to find the the LCD screeen had an internal crack just at the top middle directly underneath the webcam. The laptop was sitting on her desk and the previous evening was fine.
Dell is claiming that it was customer damaged and will not cover under the normal warranty. Unfortunatley I did not purchase the extended warranty.
I have read a number of similar internal crack issues with 1525's online and would like to know if it's possible to escalate this to someone at Dell who could approve the repair.

Only when this laptop (and its wireless card) are "on" does the LCD display screen generate a cracked appearance which is obviously related to a light behind the screen?
The screen itself is not cracked; therefore does this Inspiron 1100 require a full new screen, or a light source which is broken?

Dell is requesting $400 to replace the screen.
Unfortunately, I did not purchase the accidental damage coverage. The laptop has not been dropped or abused and is under the so-called 12 month warranty. I have read online similar cases of new 1525 LCD’s developing cracks (see below a copied post from Amazon).
I am furious that Dell is failing to admit either this is a design problem with the frame or a faulty LCD panel or perhaps there was a manufacturing process blunder during assembly.
Are there any forum members who have successfully convinced someone at Dell to honor the warranty in a case like this? Is there a best approach to elevating my dispute? My daughter really wanted a Mac and now of course I am a knucklehead as highlighted by Dell's excellent customer care and design engineering.
I have a friend who owns an Inspirion 1520 and it is obvious the frame is far heavier and structurally more rigid than the cheap plastic case on the 1525. At the moment, I’m the screwed customer and Dell has a college freshman on a campus of 35,000 kids who will be bad mouthing Dell for years to come. Dell also has a few other kids who own 1525’s in the same dorm who are experiencing quality issues and the brand is taking a beating.
Thanks in advance for your comments .....

It is a Refurb, but I have had very good luck with their refurbs. I am typing on a XPS M1530 Refurb that is flawless.
Anyways, I got the Mini 9 yesterday from FedEx but got home so late that I decided to wait till today to open up the box. Box is in fine shape. Laptop is not. It looks like it is cracked behind the screen. Lots of dead/broken pixels in both horizontal and vertical lines.
Worst part about it? (And I KNOW it was stupid move on my part, but I ordered a Runcore 32GB and 2GB of ram that I will be getting tomorrow, should have waited until I knew the laptop was good).
So what should I expect in the exhange process? I am going to press to do a cross-ship (I know they do this for XPS's).

My M1330 laptop is out of warranty and needs a new DVD/CDrom player.
Will someone kindly tell me where to buy a new player to install myself?
I have heard the TEAC's are a decent upgrade.
Please help as I have tried the Dell support web site with no help at all in this area.

i purchased my m1330 2 years ago, and since then it has failed once on the october 2 years ago. Ever since then i've been moderating the usage on my laptop and so it didn't happen again.
Yesterday, I've replaced the palmrest, keyboard, and applied the copper mod , but found that my laptop is showing signs of failure (stalling, then screen flickered).
So essentially, my laptop is slowly dying, I screwed up the copper mod in 2 ways:, and my extended GPU warranty expires next month.
I accidentally broke off a piece of the heatsync padding that i took off to put on the copper

I was looking up my warranty information from my service tag and it states I have one more year left of complete care. (I purchased 3 year coverage). I saw this thread a while back: http://en.community.dell.com/blogs/d...op-owners.aspx

The LCD screen on my 6 month old Sony FW laptop is toast. It looks like a window that was hit by a speeding baseball (only worse). The laptop itself still works, but it is unusable due to the broken screen.
Questions:
1. To get it fixed, should I go through Sony or a third party? (anyone know the best phone number to call for help?)
2. Should I have the work done for me or should I order a new LCD and attempt to fix it myself?
3. I have an XBRITE-HiColor screen. How can I be sure that the screen I am getting/ordering is indeed a HiColor LCD and not an Eco?

I have an Acer 5710. The screen has cracked where the webcam should be. There is no support at all behind the top of the screen. It flexes in to empty space due to there being no rear support. Can anybody confirm if there should be a top support fitted if no webcam is there.

I'm another person suffering from a duff m1330. I was using it last week for some light web browsing and the screen just randomly froze and faded to white (there were some colourful vertical stripes also). I know that this is something todo with the GPU because it happened before.. luckily i was within warranty and an engineer came out and swapped the motherboard.. but that was like 2 years ago and i am not in warranty anymore.
When i try to power it on, i just get a blank screen, there arn't any booting noises. I've tried running the powerbutton+'d' key LCD test and that works alright, so I know it isn't the display.
I have also tried removing the battery, holding the power button for 30seconds then restarting. This worked last week and the system booted up and i assumed everything was ok but then it failed again a day later. strange.
I performed the copper-mod ( Dell XPS M1330 - nVidia GeForce 8400M GS - Copper Mod) yesterday in the hopes that that might help something .. but i'm guessing the GPU has already been cooked by this stage, if thats what it is.
Anyway, my next thing to try is replacing the motherboard. Does anyone know a good place to source one? Or have any other suggestions of what might fix it?
Are there any newer motherboards that would fit in the M1330 case? cos i'm thinking if im replacing the mobo anyway, might aswell get a better one and a faster processor.

Well after just less then a year of service my M1330 was hit by the nvidia failure. With 17 days to ago on the warranty I guess this is the best time for it to happen if its going to.
A quick call to the XPS service line has a new motherboard on the way to be installed.
This is the point were it gets interesting, I asked about the warranty enhancement from the dell blogs here
and was told that policy states because I am having a replacement in warranty I do not qualify for any warranty extension. I questioned the tech rep on were this policy was coming from, but she didn't really have a good explanation of the policy .....

My warranty on my computer expired in December and now my motherboard has fried for the second time. Every time I call dell they take my service tag and say how sorry they are but my warranty has expired. I try to explain to them that dell extended the warranty for all computers with the defective card for one more year and they reply by saying that it is not in the computer. They keep sending me to the out of warranty department.

Screen on a HP DV6500 cracked and need to replace it.
I have been searching online and found some good instructional sites and videos, and I think I can do this by myself.
Is is safe to buy screens on eBay? eBay saves me about $150 if I but it there...should I go for it or can anyone refer me some where else.

I bought an Extenza 4420 a few weeks ago, and the screen cracked after only a week. I did not drop it or step on it or abuse it. Acer told me a replacement screen would cost $450 plus shipping costs. This doesn't seem right. The customer service at the store where I bought it, and also when I called Acer's customer service line offered no help at all.
My question is if there is anything I can do about it other than replacing the screen at my cost?

Yesterday while I was on my XPS 1530 laptop, the colors on the screen turned all screwy and then it crashed to blue screen. Odd...
It happened about 5 more times until when I tried to turn on my computer, the backlight on the screen would go on, but the screen itself would remain black.
I can actually hear it booting up normally, it even makes the window log-in noise, but there is simply no image on the screen at all. I even hooked up my external monitor to my laptop, but absolutely nothing comes up on it.

Does 6930p come with a LED backlight WXGA+ (1440x900) screen? I read somewhere that it would come with a LED backlight WXGA or a CCFL backlight WXGA+.
2nd question: What are the differences between a refurbished 6930p and a canceled order one? Is there a chance to a canceled order 6930 be marked as refurbished?

I just recently placed an order for a Studio 1737 (replacing an Inspiron E1705). It comes with a 1 year warranty.
I'm debating whether it's worth spending $200+ to upgrade to a Dell 3 year warranty or should I get a 3 year Square Trade Warranty for less than $150 (I can get one for around $120 after a coupon)?

Today I went to lift up laptop and pinched the LCD a little to hard and ended up cracking it right under the mounting screw.I have a white stripe about 2 inches wide, down the middle of the screen. Dumb I know.. I was wondering what the best thing to do is? Buy a replacement lcd or just get an external display since it is going on three years old.

I need to replace the LCD on my M1330, I have never replaced an LCD panel in a laptop before but upon researching it seems it should be simple enough..
I currently have a Chi Mei (CMO1309) but upon researching replacement screens on this site, have decided to purchase the Samsung panel part code (tm107)
My question is, will the inverter I currently have work for the new panel?

What would I need to upgrade a CCFL LCD to the LED? This is what I know I need so far
LED screen
Thinner LED version lid (GX172)
LED version bezel (RW485)
LED video cable (GX081)
Is that all?

I got a XPS m1330 with an LED screen. On low brightness, I can see dark spots across the bottom of the screen.
They are usually visible on a white background, like in "My Computer" window. So, I had my screen replaced and today the tech came out and put in a new LED. I am still having the same issue, so I am wondering if they are all like this.

I bought myself a Dell xps m1330 when I was in Japan last year and it's been rather troublesome. (I had to replace the hard drive.)
The built in monitor has recently died much to my disdain. I have a spare monitor lying in my room that would work. The thing is that when I start my laptop,
I can't get the display to transfer over to my old monitor. Is there a certain key combination I can press on startup to make the display go over? My nvidea control panel has the ability to choose a preferred monitor but I can't see to get to it..

I've just noticed a dark line has appeared on my M1330 led screen- right across the top.... it goes right across the screen and is about 3mm thick.
You need to look right at the top (above the XPS M1330 text). It's there all the time! What can I do?

So I received a friend's XPS M1330. Who got it back from dell for motherboard replacement (gfx card problem).
It was working great till one day he boot it up and the screen had nothing on it. The laptop runs with an external display connected. The warranty expired nearly a month ago =/
How do I know if the screen is completely dead, or that the inverter or backlight died. If the screen is still alive can i simply replace the inverter or backlight? How do i test that the screen is fully dead?
