View 4 RepliesI have an Acer 5710. The screen has cracked where the webcam should be. There is no support at all behind the top of the screen. It flexes in to empty space due to there being no rear support. Can anybody confirm if there should be a top support fitted if no webcam is there.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased additional RAM to upgrade my Acer Aspire 5601. According to Acer website, crucial.com and other places I searched, my model can be upgraded to 4GB of RAM (2 per slot). Inserted the new RAM and booted up and it just hung at the splash screen. The RAM I purchased was PC2-6400 (DDR2-800) and I had understood that my system would still accept it and make the adjustment accordingly. I tried several different things:
- I removed one RAM chip and system boots up and Windows recognizes 2GB (tried the other chip too so I know both are working)
- Thinking the type of RAM was an issue I took 4GB of DDR2-533 from another laptop and tried with no luck.
I bought an Extenza 4420 a few weeks ago, and the screen cracked after only a week. I did not drop it or step on it or abuse it. Acer told me a replacement screen would cost $450 plus shipping costs. This doesn't seem right. The customer service at the store where I bought it, and also when I called Acer's customer service line offered no help at all.
My question is if there is anything I can do about it other than replacing the screen at my cost?
My husband dropped his Aspire 3680-2682 the other day and the screen went wonky. I booted it off a VGA monitor and it seems to be fine running from there, BUT I could not get it to boot to VGA except in safe mode, and when I choose to boot in regular mode it goes to the LCD screen and doesn't allow switching the display to the external monitor.
This is the only thing that concerns me that it might not be just the screen that sustained damage.
I was eventually able to get th bezel off (it doesn't come 100% off on this model but doesn't need to) and remove the lcd panel for inspection. The thin board taped to the back of the panel doesn't seem to be visibly broken or strained and the connectors to it were taped so firmly in place they didn't budge on impact. The small board that rests at the bottom of the top case under the bezel (the inverter?) can't be inspected well and I don't want to damage it by trying. In any case nothing appears damaged to the naked eye on or around the screen.
The first pic is how the screen looks when booted; it also (visibly) flickers and redraws continuously. The second shows that applying pressure allows a clearer view of the console and stops the flickering.

I have found a replacement screen online for 50.00 and feel comfortable enough trying to replace it rather than spend the cost of a new laptop on sending it for repairs.
However, if it's not just the screen I don't want to throw more money at this.
In your experienced opinions, does it look like the damage is typical of a broken LCD screen and not something in the motherboard? (no clue on how to get a closer look at that stuff. took every screw out of it last night and couldn't get the bottom case to reveal its secrets.)
My Aspire 5720 z laptop was accidentally dropped, and now the screen whites out to black. Do I need to replace the monitor screen ??Is a new video card needed ??
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe LCD screen on my 6 month old Sony FW laptop is toast. It looks like a window that was hit by a speeding baseball (only worse). The laptop itself still works, but it is unusable due to the broken screen.
Questions:
1. To get it fixed, should I go through Sony or a third party? (anyone know the best phone number to call for help?)
2. Should I have the work done for me or should I order a new LCD and attempt to fix it myself?
3. I have an XBRITE-HiColor screen. How can I be sure that the screen I am getting/ordering is indeed a HiColor LCD and not an Eco?
Our 1525 is 6 months old and my daughter opened the laptop at college to find the the LCD screeen had an internal crack just at the top middle directly underneath the webcam. The laptop was sitting on her desk and the previous evening was fine.
Dell is claiming that it was customer damaged and will not cover under the normal warranty. Unfortunatley I did not purchase the extended warranty.
I have read a number of similar internal crack issues with 1525's online and would like to know if it's possible to escalate this to someone at Dell who could approve the repair.
Only when this laptop (and its wireless card) are "on" does the LCD display screen generate a cracked appearance which is obviously related to a light behind the screen?
The screen itself is not cracked; therefore does this Inspiron 1100 require a full new screen, or a light source which is broken?
My dad's Macbook (Early 2008 black plastic) got its screen cracked today, I wanna know how much it will cost to get it fixed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Dell around May 2008, and upon receiving the laptop I noticed that there was an area on the left of the screen that seemed to have an internal protrusion;
whenever I moved the screen that area would have extensive rippling. When viewed from different angles the screen seemed to have a white mark in that area. Since I had had a lot of computer drama with HP back then,
I didn't want to ship back my new Dell right as I got it, and I left it alone. Unfortunately I didn't take any images of the screen.
A couple of weeks ago, I opened my laptop like any other day, only to find that the screen had cracked internally, right where I had suspected the weakness .....
Dell is requesting $400 to replace the screen.
Unfortunately, I did not purchase the accidental damage coverage. The laptop has not been dropped or abused and is under the so-called 12 month warranty. I have read online similar cases of new 1525 LCD’s developing cracks (see below a copied post from Amazon).
I am furious that Dell is failing to admit either this is a design problem with the frame or a faulty LCD panel or perhaps there was a manufacturing process blunder during assembly.
Are there any forum members who have successfully convinced someone at Dell to honor the warranty in a case like this? Is there a best approach to elevating my dispute? My daughter really wanted a Mac and now of course I am a knucklehead as highlighted by Dell's excellent customer care and design engineering.
I have a friend who owns an Inspirion 1520 and it is obvious the frame is far heavier and structurally more rigid than the cheap plastic case on the 1525. At the moment, I’m the screwed customer and Dell has a college freshman on a campus of 35,000 kids who will be bad mouthing Dell for years to come. Dell also has a few other kids who own 1525’s in the same dorm who are experiencing quality issues and the brand is taking a beating.
Thanks in advance for your comments .....
a while ago i accidentally cracked the screen of my Dell M1330 (im a student by the way it was a present i should have been more carefull with it i know i am gutted )
the laptop itself worked fine for a while after that apart from the blemish of the screen itself,
it was only untill recently that after a while the screen turns a shade of greeen with lines down it then resets itself only to be just white, it works about half the time i try to turn it on now
i was wondering what my best course of action would be, i have heard very bad things about dell's OWR and i cant really afford to pay a lot for repairs?
It is a Refurb, but I have had very good luck with their refurbs. I am typing on a XPS M1530 Refurb that is flawless.
Anyways, I got the Mini 9 yesterday from FedEx but got home so late that I decided to wait till today to open up the box. Box is in fine shape. Laptop is not. It looks like it is cracked behind the screen. Lots of dead/broken pixels in both horizontal and vertical lines.
Worst part about it? (And I KNOW it was stupid move on my part, but I ordered a Runcore 32GB and 2GB of ram that I will be getting tomorrow, should have waited until I knew the laptop was good).
So what should I expect in the exhange process? I am going to press to do a cross-ship (I know they do this for XPS's).
Screen on a HP DV6500 cracked and need to replace it.
I have been searching online and found some good instructional sites and videos, and I think I can do this by myself.
Is is safe to buy screens on eBay? eBay saves me about $150 if I but it there...should I go for it or can anyone refer me some where else.
I dropped my laptop and while the computer hardware all still works, the LCD is broken. However, I do not know how to get the broken one out, let alone a new one in. Does anyone know how to replace the screen on the dv4-1430us?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo my wife just got a brand new macbook about a week ago, but accidentally dropped it about a foot or two this morning. The "case" which we got from macmall did practically nothing, and I think one corner of the macbook took the brunt of it.
Now, the macbook won't get past the grey startup screen. I'll see the mac symbol, and then a "no entry" (circle with a diagonal line through it) sign, and then the system will just hang.
I've used the Mac OS X install dvd to use Disk Utility to try to repair the hard drive, but Disk Utility didn't find any problems. Everything was green and good to go.
I'm running the Hardware Test now, but I was wondering if anyone here would have any ideas about what to do next, or what is causing this problem?
Update 1: The hardware test said everything was fine, too.
Update 2: It can boot in safe mode! Everything looks good from the safe boot, I've got access to all the files and everything..........................
Aspire 7720-6604 Monitor Cracked. Is it easy to replace or should I send to shop? Where can I purchase a replacement and is there a special software to set it up again?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 6930G which recently fallen of my hand while carrying it, the results are a broken screen some light cracks in the casing
however, the laptop now doesn't want to run
When I connect the AC adapter, the blue light turns on, however when I click the button to start the laptop, The laptop starts for one second then the light turns off
I tried with the battery instead of the AC adapter and got the same results
I did take off the wireless card, replace RAM sticks, Replaced HDD and stills the same
Even the fan won't spin
my little acer netbook now looks like this:
Do you guys reckon its fixable at all, or is it a write-off
I've found a source for the replacement part through EXTENSIVE research- and found an online user manual. I am not used to building/opening laptops, so I don't know whether
I'll need special tools to replace the broken back cover; are there any other parts I may need (such as hinges, antenna WiFi).
Is this even a job I should take on or is it pretty easy?
The LCD is fine- it's JUST the plastic cover I need to replace.
I recently bought an acer v3 371 and was looking forward to using the webcam. Â For the first few days it was fine quality but then suddenly, possibly after an update of some sort, the quality went down and now it looks really terrible. Â I tried many things such as refreshing the computer back to default settings, installing various camera programs (I was using the standard camera that came with windows 8.1) such as Acer Crystal Eye but changing the resolution in these makes no difference at all to the terrible quality. Â
I look in device manager and it just seems to be a generic device 'HD Webcam' and the driver is from 2006, this seems to be the default one that windows selects but there must be a better one, I can't find it anywhere though. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device several times but again no effect. Â I don't know exactly what the webcam is, because if you go to Acer's actual website to look for driver updates they list all of them EXCEPT the webcam drivers.
I did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit a few days ago.
All is fine except one major issue; My battery capacity dropped to half of that in Vista. I am now lucky to get over 3.5 hours. In Vista I had an average of 6-7 hours.
What could be the cause of this? I have updated all drivers and empowering software. I also installed the Vista version of the Optical Drive Power Management just to see if that was the cause.
Anyone else experiencing poor battery times in W7? Is 64bit known for reducing battery times?
confirm that this LCD (see attachment)is cracked or at least needs to be replaced?
View 9 Replies View RelatedToday I went to lift up laptop and pinched the LCD a little to hard and ended up cracking it right under the mounting screw.I have a white stripe about 2 inches wide, down the middle of the screen. Dumb I know.. I was wondering what the best thing to do is? Buy a replacement lcd or just get an external display since it is going on three years old.
View 10 Replies View RelatedAn hour ago, I accidentally dropped my Inspiron E1705. The notebook fell from 3ft high and hit the ground on its bottom side (the same position you use the laptop). I tried to turn it on to see if it worked and here's what I found:
The notebook turns on and the battery charges
The hard drive led is blinking like booting
The keyboard works
No beeps
Screen is blank, no video at all, I tried using an external monitor and got the same result
So I bought my m1330 about 2 months ago with the 1 year complete care service. Approx. 2 days ago I dropped my laptop and it cracked the casing on the side of LCD. The crack does not affect the functioning of the laptop.
Am I still covered by DELL?

Dropped my computer and now it wont boot up. Instead it just keeps turning on and off. The screen is also cracked. HP tells me that the hard drive or motherboard have been shifted with the impact and are not being detected properly causing the power cycling. They are offering to fix it for $400. I would like to attempt to make the repairs myself, if possible.
