Originally they called yesterday and offered me a replacement for an M17X but they would only give me 85% of the original ourchase price of the XPS.
I configured the M17X on the DELL website and also called the Sales department to clarify I could have Bu Ray reader and Dual ATI's added because these options are not on the web configurator. I was told I could add these options.
This morning a tech support representative called and we went through the configuration. He could not get the price to match what I had been quoted from the Sales department.
I currently have a 1645 on order and assuming I ever get it, I want to run Linux as the primary OS.
I would like to run vmware workstation with windows as a client. The reason behind this is that I primarily use the computer for work and need linux, but I need windows for a few things.
I understand that these days Dell simply ships a re-install disk if that much. I need a full version of windows to setup vmware. Does anyone know if the dell key can be used with a full version disk to do an install .....
pretty much that....I'm running is SLI, does that have anything to do with it? Also I'm going to try updating my graphics driver, but does anyone have a good driver cleaner recommendation .....
I've had my XPS 720 desktop since January. It can be a good computer, but I've had too many problems with it and Dell support has been terrible. I've had to literally contact them at least ten, probably a lot more times, for each problem that I've had. Since I'm typing this in an iPhone, I'll just list them.
Two weeks after I got the system it would freeze during the middle of its' boot up and I had to have a mediocre Dell technican fix it.
The system reboots (turns off out of nowhere and instantly powers back up).
The system got the "screech of death" and was repaired ten days afterward.
The technican that came scratched up the system a lot.
Tons of boot up errors before getting into Windows.
Does anybody have any tips on how to get a full refund from Dell? The system has gotten really annoying and there's really no excuse for them not to do something other than another repair and Dell isn't as good as it should be at fixing it. I'll probably focus on each point individually and put up a good arguement, though refunds are really hit and miss. I'll be talking to an agent's manager's manager tomorrow and I really just want a refund at this point.
I had a bunch of problems getting Dell to refund my money for a laptop I returned. I purchased a $1700+ Dell Studio 17 laptop using my company’s Employee Purchase Program on 1/13/2009 using my debit card.
I was very unhappy with its sound (totally unacceptable) and when after multiple attempts to remedy the situation failed I decided to return the laptop for a refund. Which I did on 2/6/2009.
When I was notified that the unit had arrived at Dell I called to find out when I could expect my refund and was notified that they would “credit my account quickly".
I told them that was a problem because the account that I ordered it on (my debit card) had to be canceled because it was suspected that it was compromised so the account they would try and credit no longer existed. I was told “no problem” we will issue you a check and it should be delivered in 5-7 working days .....
what does it mean by returning with credit? does it mean that i cannot get the full amount i paid, but instead i can buy other dell computer with the credit?
I had a studio xps16 but it was broken, so they sent me a replacement system.
but now, the replacement system is also broken. the replacement is brand new (they gave brand new as old laptop was 1 day old).
now, they have taken the old laptop back. but the new laptop is new and so i had a new invoice, trackin no. and etc. Although the invoice charged me £0.00 as obviously, its a replacement...
I paid 1100 some for the 1705 about 4-5 years ago and than last year i extended my complete care for another 3 years and paid 380 some dollars.
so now dell is saying they do not have a 1730 and they do not have any alienware so they offered me a 1640 or refund.
i said refund. so now they are processing a refund but i have a feeling i am not going to get my 1400 back. does any one know how is dell going to $rew me this time?
I just sent back a lemon of a XPS 1340 to Dell, got the confirmation that they received my return, and they noted the credit will appear on my statement up to 30 business days.....................
I really need to know if i can get them to give me a break from being just a week after the 30 days warranty, should i tell them about the B.B.B.?
Would that matter, cuz i have many heat issues with my sxps16? I don't think that's fair to get a new one and take the chance of getting their refurb parts
i really like the way NBR team reviews verious things and users post their thoughts and experiencs.
my issue is with my dell studio 1535 which has 4gb ram, 8100 intel c2duo and 250 gb hdd (wd). i bought it on august last year. so there is only 3 months left on warranty.
the hdd recently giving problem. in win vista a yellow icon blinking in the system tray showing a msg "a hard drive in the system showing that it may fail". i chk in linux if the msg is really need to be resolved, i get this .....
Overview: If you have never heard about Windows tax, Windows refund or anyone ever getting refund for Windows OS then perhaps it is time to look it up.
I don't think many people are aware of the fact that it is possible (and you have the all the rights to) to get a refund for Windows OS if you aren't planning to use it.
Getting Windows OS refund is like returning unused/unneeded product to get your money back. For example, if you are using Linux on your computer, why should you pay for Windows OS? Or, if your study institution provides FREE premium Windows OS, why should you pay for the crippled one that comes with your computer? Why should you even be forced to use Windows?
I decided not to pay for Windows OS. It is in the principle.
Please note: The key in getting Windows OS refund is in DECLINING the EULA agreement the first time computer boots up (or not turning computer on at all). If you accepted the EULA you are out of luck!
Here is how I got Windows OS refund from Acer Canada: I purchased my Acer Aspire 1410 from Canadian Staples Business Depot. For 5 days I played around with it by booting Ubuntu Linux from SDHC card to make sure it was working correctly, there were no defects, etc, and after making the final decision of keeping the notebook, I picked up the phone and called Acer Technical Support (1-866-706-2237).
After getting a hold for an agent I explained that I would like to get a refund for Windows Vista Home Premium that came pre-installed on my laptop and quoted EULA agreement:
Quote:
By using the software, you accept these terms [of EULA agreement]. If you do not accept them, do not use the software. Instead, contact the manufacturer or installer to determine their return policy for a refund or credit...................
I understand this is a processor problem. I powered off, disconnected battery, drained all power, still won't power on. Is there anything else I can try?
I have dell insp n5010. Recently it started giving 8beeps. It displays when I use external Monitor. I changed the LCD yet the problem still persists. I haven't changed the cable though. Do you think I have problem With the mother board. The laptop has 1gb ati graphic card.
my new dell inspiron 14 z 5423 with ubuntu is not giving battery backup. it is only working for 1 hr on full charge. is there any hard ware issue with my laptop.
This week I took delivery of an Inspiron 7000 laptop for my daughter, and some of the keyboard symbols are typing incorrectly. Â EG when hitting the " key she get the @ symbol, the @ symbol is giving the british pound symbol, and maybe one or two others are incorrect (I am at work at present and don't have the laptop with me to give all the wrong keys).
My Dell Inspiron 15 3250 won't start, it is giving 4 beep sounds with intervals no dell icon only black screen, and I've tried with Fn+Power button bt there it's giving that every thing is fine.
I have Acer Aspire 8930G-844G32Bn (T8400 2.26Ghz, 4GB DDR3 and Nvidia 9700M GT 512MB)
I noticed when I opened up a browser like IE 7, it doesn't open up smoothly. It opens in a stuttering way, non-smooth like, etc. I tried other browsers like Opera and witnessed the same effect.
When open up like 'My Computer', 'Windows Media Player' or whatever... it opens up smoothly.
Why is that?
I don't have any background programs running and it is fresh installed Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit.
i  have a dell inspiron 3000s laptop, the machines felt and the screen & data cable are broken so when i power on the machine is giving 8 beeps repeatedly and the machines does not display what could be the problem.
I have a dell xps 15z laptop and I have replaced the battery because it was not giving any backup. Now i plugged new battery but the battery icon says"0% available, (plugged in, not charging)". Also an indicator is blinking (four times orange and one time white) below the laptop screen (the hinge where screen is attached to the base of laptop).
I have this mac ibook4 that keeps giving me a blue screen, when i ever it's powered on i need to know what is really causing that. i just doesn't respond to anything and some times the screen blinks.
i recently installed vista service pack 1 on my system which is a 64 bit OS! a couple minutes after installing and installed all necessary drivers, i then tried to install the PC game by the name of grid, half way into installation, my laptop shutdown giving me the blue screen that say hardware error and dumping memory.... i tried rebooting a couple time but same blue screen results, so i opened my system and then boot again, i then noticed my fan wasnt running continuously, it runs for a couple seconds then stops and then runagain for another couple seconds and stop, it continuously repeats that step, so i then removed the fan and cleaned out the sponge thick dirt i saw in it, blow out the dust from vents and from heat sink, then i tries booting up again and the fan behaves the same god darn way..... how can i solve this problem do you think weather or not my system is 32 bit or 64 bit, wud it affect the operation of my fan?
I bought a Lenovo G580 laptop this march and now I have some problem with my keyboard. It is behaving strangley. Some keys are not responding and some keys are giving me two charecters. For example, when I press T, it writes R and 5 and the key I is not responding. I did system restore, last known good configuration, repair etc, but the problem is still there.
I recently bought a lenovo Flex 2 -14" one. The keyboard and touchpad together keeps getting disconnected at times. The backlight also keeps blinking when turned on. During that time, I am not able to receive any response via the touchpad and keyboard. It's like a loose connection. Keeps turning on and off!!
