Here at my workplace, we have a Dell Latitude D620 that when you use the touchpad, you can drag the cursor almost to the button you wish to click on, then it decides to jump clear across the screen.
I've updated the BIOS & touchpad driver but the problem persists.
I have recently noted that, sometimes (randomly and rarely for the time being), the pointer of my bluetooth MM (Mighty Mouse) moves farther than what I was expecting it to move. This happened probably in concomitance with the opening of some application (Iphoto once). In other words, it appeared to me that the pointer accelerated more than what I demanded it to move with the displacement of the mouse. It was not really a uncontrolled jump (as it sometimes happens with optical mice) but like a transitory but self-contained loss of pointer control.
I believe that a similar event occurred also once with the trackpad pointer when I went to the bottom of the screen to make dock appear in concomitance with a skype call launch....the pointer seemed to move fast to the right although I am quite sure it was not my finger to command this motion on the pad.
I have tried (with respect to MM) to delete and recreate the bluetooth .plist but it did not prevent from having this occurrence (note also that the batteries are OK).
I have read in some other forum, here in this site, that this might be due to OSX pointer acceleration (not perfect) management.
I am having a problem with my 9 month old Dell XPS 1530. When I type for a while (a paragraph or so) the cursor will inadvertently “jump” from the end of the sentence where I am typing to somewhere in the middle of the paragraph. This is a real annoyance and at first I thought I might be hitting a key on the keyboard causing this. However, I gave the laptop to my father in law and had him use it for a short while. View 10 Replies View RelatedOut of no where, my cursor has started to lag. For example, if I move it quickly around in a circle, it will move, pause for a second, then sort of appear where it would be had it not lagged.
It does so on a very specific interval, like when spinning in a circle it will stop momentarily every 2 seconds. I've also noticed while playing a 3D game, the graphics will lag slightly every 2 seconds.
I've done in-depth virus/spyware checks, defrag etc. It really just randomly started. It does it with my wireless mouse and the touchpad.
I have had my refurbed e6400 for two now and keep experiencing a frozen mouse. I have seen this happen in XPSP3 as shipped and Vista Ultimate 64Bit.
When it freezes, the pointing stick nor trackpad response, but the keyboard continues to work. Only rebooting seems to fix this problem.
Anybody seen this before??
I have the latest drivers from Dell...should i be using Alps drivers from the mfg?
I have an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 and while typing, the cursor frequently jumps around and will begin typing in a previously typed line. Â This is extremely frustrating. Â I am running Windows 8 and have looked to find where I can adjust the sensitivity of my touchpad but can't find it anywhere. Â I've seen other posts for other computers that suggest uninstalling the touchpad driver and reinstalling it. What I should do for my specific laptop to stop this from happening? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the touchpad driver. Â If so, how do I do that for the Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 running Windows 8? Â I'm also keeping my hands off the touchpad while typing but the cursor still moves.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?
I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself.
While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.
I have a Dell XPS M1730 with 4GB Ram, 1TB in HD space. It is loaded with Windows 8.It works great except  for one little thing. When I start typing I have to watch where the mouse is. If it is in the middle of the text I am typing, it will go there in the middle of me typing. This becomes very annoying.

If you are or have in the past and you contacted Dell about it were your issues resolved to your satisfaction and what did Dell do to resolve those issues? I'm considering purchasing an Inspiron 1525 to replace a 2 year old damaged Inspiron 1300 but I'd like to get some feedback from posters on this board who happen to own an Inspiron 1525.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Inspiron Dell1525 with the bluetooth mouse they sent me. I left the mouse on and had to change the batteries. The mouse worked fine. I took a food break and left the mouse on.
When I tried to use it, the cursor didn't appear on the screen. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is the bluetooth connection needs to be redone. Any ideas how to do it?
My dell has an Alps touchpad and I noticed that the busy cursor from vista freezes. Is there a way to get it to animate?

I have in inspiron 4100 for about 14 months. I have noticed that while typing, the cursor my move back to a different position in the line, move to a previous line, or jump to another text box altogether. It drives me crazy that when I type, I never know if there is some combination of keys or if I accidently touch something to make the cursor change position.
Is there by default some combination of keys that cause cursor movement. It has happened 4 times while typing this message.
Can this be turned off?
Whenever my laptop hibernates, at least half of the time, the curser will be frozen or locked up when the laptop comes out of sleep.
I have to push the button or close the lid on the laptop, sometimes 5 to 10 times before it unfreezes.
In the desktop section, stated to turn off all of the power saving options.
when I turn off all of the power options, that leaves the computer & hard drive on constantly.
I have 2 new E7420 laptops that are replacing some older ones.
When I dock either of them, all I get is a flashing cursor on either the external screens, or the laptop screen. I get the Dell logo, then just a flashing cursor on the top left of the screen.
I can turn the laptop on, wait for it to boot, then dock it, but of the 3 times I've tried that, the USB didnt work once.
Have just upgraded to the latest BIOS, but it didnt change anything.
Is there some BIOS setting or something I need to change?
Dell xps 15z ... I have an issue that the cursor disappears every few seconds whilst typing
To clarify it is the cursor and not the mouse pointer. When you click the mouse the cursor reappears in the right location so its not being moved by trackpad etc.
It appears that the tab/window open become de-active and the cursor disappears.
I have a dell inspiron 1545 , its 4yo and started to be very erratic after 10 or so minutes has the touchpad cursor. I have been told there isnt anything i can do to repair it.Â
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PC worked fine for the first few days and then all of a sudden about 1/2 the time I would try booting up I would get past the BIOS post screen and then would only see a blinking underscore cursor in the upper left and it wouldn't load Windows at all.
I've reinstalled Vista SP2 clean, tried a clean install of Win7 RTM (fully legal) and then Vista SP2 clean - all with the same result of 50% or thereabouts the PC not getting past the blinking cursor undersco
I am unable to type more than a couple of minutes without my cursor repositioning itself. The problem is inadvertent "contact" between my palm/lower thumb and the touchpad. I put contact in quotes because it's not even clear whether actual contact or mere proximity is the problem.
Brief background: I worked with Dell service and we agreed that the problem is an overly sensitive trackpad. We tried changing the TrackPad settings to no avail. They authorized a replacement trackpad which was installed by a service tech (along with a new mother board after he accidentally killed the computer while replacing the trackpad).
Result: Still no improvement.
FYI: My Touchpad settings are Touch Sensitivity 6/8; Tap to Click: On/Medium Speed; TouchCheck: Enabled/Minumum. Scroll: enabled
As you can from the above, I use the TrackPad for all my control (including selection). I have tried the most obvious solution -- turning up the TouchCheck -- and find that it renders the tap to select function useless. At this setting, it often takes 2-3 clicks to make a selection which is obviously unacceptable.
I have an issue with my Latitude D400 laptop which has now occurred twice. Basically, after operating normally and shutting down properly it has stopped booting. After the POST screen it simply hangs at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
Using the recovery console to repair the MBR and boot sector on the HDD has no effect. Neither does a repair installation of Windows XP Pro. The first time it happened I backed up, wiped the disc and started with a fresh installation of XP Pro.
However, it's now happened again. The hard disc is completely undamaged (all files are intact) but will not boot at all.
I am booting a Dell Latitude E5420 running Windows 7 and after the POST it just shows a blinking cursor..... BUT WAIT... not ALL the time... it does manage to boot into the windows after I choose the HDD from F12 options or sometimes even when I keep on shutting down and starting up again and sometimes when I do a restore checkpoint in the repair options....
The Diagnostic tests are not working when I go through the F12 and just hangs up showing the message -

I can't understand... if it was consistently NOT booting or showing a consistent error... but here the behavior is erratic (except for the MATS test failure....
I have a dell M5030. Â When I power it up I see the dell logo with F2/F12 options. I can get into both of those, after that screen disappears it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. Â I have tried various "fixes" that i can find online, from powering it down hitting f12 to try and boot from hard drive, nothing seems to work. Â I have ran the diagnostics fully and no errors come up, but I can not seem to get it to do anything. Â F8 does not work for me to try to go to safe mode.

From time to time the cursor jumps to another line whilst I am typing. This can happen on any software, ie MS word, Hotmail. It can even happen when I am entering a user name and password into any system, for example this forum.
It is very frustrating and some tiesm a simple email can take a long time to type...
My Dell Studio 1558 cursor is either jumping erratically or freezing. I have had the laptop for a few years but this problem only started a couple of weeks ago and has been getting worse.
When it freezes, I need to re-start the computer.
The jumping happens not just when I am typing, but even when using the touch pad. Â It will move up and down and often close windows or click links.
I have checked and I have the most up to date device drivers. Â I have also changed the sensitivity settings but to no avail.
