Dell Latitude E5520 :: Keystroke Lags / Doesn't Respond / Slow / Unresponsive
Dec 19, 2014
I have a Dell Latitude E5520 and lately it has been extremely slow, and characters on screen tend to lag far behind my keystrokes occasionally not appearing at all. Sometimes when I click on a button it will lag for several seconds and then go through, other times nothing will happen at all and I will have to click the button again and it works. Recently the laptop was taken on a plane and the in-flight wifi was used, that is the only thing done recently outside of the normal routine.
I have booted into safe mode and the lag still occurs. I have antivirus software installed and up to date.

I acquired a Dell Latitude E5520 that I redid myself and downloaded the drivers from Dell's website. I would like Dell quickset x64 for windows 7. The one I had for my old laptop does not work. I tried googling some but can't find it.

We have an unusual problem with a Dell Latitude E5520. It has been built with Windows 7 32bit SP1 and McAfee EndPoint Encryption, as we do with all of our laptops.
When the laptop is powered on and then docked, everything works fine. If you then give the laptop a restart whilst docked, it just doesn't! It shuts down and stays in some kind of power save mode. I have been through all of the Power options, including closing of the lid and turned off everything that could be causing this to happen, but still nothing.
If the power button is pressed whilst docked, the light comes on but that's it, no activity. Undock it, power up, close the lid and dock it again, all of the external screen, keyboard and mouse work as you would expect. I believe all of the drivers are up to date (it is a new laptop).
The docking station is an E-Port Plus DP/N: FFCV6 A00

I just got my docking station for my Dell e5520. I got the one monitor to work with the VGA set up. I would love to get the two DVI monitors working instead of one monitor. I am not sure if this is possible or not. If it IS possible, how do I go about doing it?

I have a Latitude E5520 that is having some strange issues. If I have i plugged in to a power cord, close the lid and disconnect the power cord, the unit shuts off. Sometimes when undocking, the unit will shut off as well.
I have checked the power settings and confirmed that when the lid is closed, no action should be taken.
The battery is fully charged and the laptop runs fine on the battery.
This has the latest BIOS revision A09.....

My MacBook Pro is behaving funny after wrestling with my wife. Unfortunately the laptop was on a table side when my wife jumped on me and we were wrestling away.
She got my arm and twisted it behind my back i was desparate to get out of the arm bar and neck choke she was applying on me. In desparation I got out of her dealy UFC choke but as a consequence I kicked the laptop off the table by accident.
The laptop flew a few metres and landed hard on the floor. As you could see, this is no way to treat the laptop. Now my laptop is behaving strangely the mouse doesn't respond as it used to.
Will this be covered under warranty?

When I first got my Latitude E5520 (i7, 8Gb RAM, Intel HD graphics) I could connect to a Citrix based VDI desktop with a screen resolution of 1920x1024. Suddenly it dropped to 1280x760. I have never been able to get it to shift back to 1920.
The Citrix client has been replaced with both available options. Same result. Every possible configuration setting has been set to 1920x1024 to no avail.
The native desktop is at 1920x1024. Shifting into the VDI session, the only screen resolution offered is 1280x760.
I have also reloaded the graphics driver. Same results.Going into the advanced graphics configuration on the laptop confirms 1920x1024.
Other laptops allow me to log in to the same VDI desktop in 1920x1024 resolution so it is isolated to the laptop itself...

I'm working on this Netbook for my parents. It has been used VERY little since new, has all the Updates installed,
There are NO programs installed outside of the Factory Programs except for MS Security Essentials, and Maliwarebytes.
That said, it is VERY SLOW and sometimes UNRESPONSIVE to keyboard commands. I know this isn't a high level PC, but is there anything I can do to speed it up so we can search eBay, Facebook and other sites. No hard computing is needed, just basic simple functions. It's just to slow now and basically no one will use it.

I've got an acer aspire 5672 and I can't get passed my login screen anymore. The keyboard and touchpad do not respond.
I tried in safe mode and there they do.
There was one time where they did respond but then they stopped right after loggin in.
The system seems to keep running though, as the cursor blinks etc, it's just that I cannot do anything.
As it does work in safe mode, it must be a software thing, no?

I recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) with Windows 8. I'm getting used to Windows 8, but really struggling with the integrated touchpad. It's getting so frustrating I'm considering returning it. The problems are hard to pin down, but in general:
-I often get the right click shortcut menu, when I'm just trying to click. I've even changed both the right and left hand buttons to both be "click" (and neither be shortcut menu), but I still get the shortcut menu a lot.
-Sometimes the cursor gets stuck and doesn't respond to movements. I've tried adjusting the touch sensitivity and disabled palm detection. No change.

I recently had to reinstall my Latitude E6420 with Windows 7.
Afterwards, Audio and Video (having Spotify+a few Office apps running) start to lag.
I tried reinstalling the Machine again without success. I tried all driveres suggested on the Dell supportpage and I asked google which told me "Turn off eSATA and SpeedStep" [URL] .... which hadnt any success either.

On my HP Envy M4-1015dx laptop, I was editing a large image file in Photoshop, likely using a large amount of the scratch disk. In the background I had another Adobe program running though I had not engaged the application in the couple hours prior. Google Chrome web browser was also open in the background, with admittedly a lot of tabs open. So, the load on the computer/processor? was definitely heavy.
At this point, the battery died and the computer subsequently shut down. I plugged in a power source shortly after, and pressed the power button to turn the laptop on. The laptop booted and went to the welcome screen, I entered my password and the laptop got stuck on the "Welcome" screen that loads prior to opening to the desktop.
I pressed the power button to turn off the laptop and again to turn it on. At this point everything loaded extremely slowly. The screen where I enter the password moved extremely slow, taking at least 5 - 10 minutes to accept my keypresses and start loading the desktop.
Using any other application did not work, they became unresponsive. Attempting a system restore took over 30 minutes just to set a restore point and "prepare" the computer for a system restore. I was never able to complete a restore, I got an error during the preparation process.
It seems like the processor is just overloaded with even the smallest tasks now.

I have a Dual core 1.2Ghz, 3GB ram (Crucial) Dell Latitude XT with a 32gb SSD, I've been having problems with it since January,
it stalls, you can't even switch between tabs in Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla, Scrolling was very slow and glitchy. I stopped using it because
I was tired of Dell's useless CS i.e spending an hour on chat without any useful info, they replaced the HDD with a refurbished sandisk 5000 that was slightly better than the original but still too slow to use.
A couple of month ago, I asked them to send a regular hdd so I can see the difference, they sent me a refurbished 80GB that worked a lot better than the other two but started clicking a week or two afterward.

I try to fix a latitude E4300.
- int. keyboard does not work (however trackpoint and touchpad work), only an ext. USB keyboard works.
- laptop is slow: in the BIOS setup the response is already slow, mouse is very slow...
- when hitting F8 on the ext. keyboard, you get the windows startup menu.
(safe mode etc.) Response of this menu is also slow.
- windows (XP) does not start at all, you see the Windows startup screen and nothing happens (no BSOD)
- even a recovery cd like "hiren's boot CD" or "I have the password" doesn't start.
Bios: A13
All settings in the BIOS are correct. Changed to default, still the same problems.
I ran diagnostics (F12), but no errors found???
I ran chkdsk on the harddisk (removed HD and put it into an external HD case), errors were found, but corrected...

When I unplug the charger, the laptop returns to normal speed. Does anyone know the reason why this is occurring and if it can be fixed?
Also, I don't think the laptop is actually charging
In the task manager I see the CPU usage at around 20% when its not plugged in, and the moment I plug it in, it goes to 100%, then I unplug it and it instantly goes back to 20%.

I was given a nice E6510 that doesn't boot. I've taken it apart and tested the memory, all the connections, reseated the processor (yes I used arctic silver) and it never gets past the 'one time boot menu', the diagnostic boot freezes but I CAN get to the very complex BIOS version A16.
So, I bought a new MOBO thinking that would solve the boot issue but it hasn't-it's doing exactly the same thing. may indicate the problem-Dell calls this an "OPTION ROM", may be 'unseated' or the system board is bad.
What is "Option ROM" and how can it be reseated? Are there any other things I can do in BIOS to change this? I also replaced the SATA CDROM and the hard drive, and I know the USB port works okay but nothing will boot from them.

The integrated webcam on my E4310 is not being recognised anywhere. This is a topic which already has several previous discussions, but without any solution for me. The webcam doesn't appear in device manager:
and is not recognised on skype, or the Dell Webcam Central. When put through the Dell diagnostics test it says no camera is installed. Is it possible that there is no webcam on this laptop and what I see above the screen is something else?

tried to upgrade my Latitude E5510 from 2x2Gb (factury Samsung) to 2x4Gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9. BIOS updated to Rev. A13, latest. Memory is recognized as 8Gb. But booting into Windows7 X64 doesn't work anymore. If I boot from a Lubuntu CD (x86) it runs, naturally only with approx. 4Gb since this is a x86 OS-version. Windows 7 X64 just reboots. If I use Save Mode a reboot occurs when the loading of "ClassPnP.sys" starts. When I put in the old 2x2Gb everything works perfectly. Can't even get into Windows Setup from a clean DVD.

windows 8.1 64 bit
after switching between user accounts, I can move the cursor around on the screen, but I can't click on anything, not left click or right click
after signing out of the problematic user account and signing back in, the pad works normally
I saw a lot of reports on this problem for linux, but none for windows.
this laptop came with ubuntu installed. I personally installed windows 8.1 64 bit, which is supported, and I installed all the latest drivers.
