my DVD drive is non-functional, so I downloaded the recent driver for it from the Dell site (8/19/2008, DJ06, A02). When I tried running it I got an error stating "You don't have administrator right to process or No device is recognized".
Which is weird as I'm the local admin on the machine.

I tried to update my bios to A07 -> A11 (the lastest). But the update failed. Ok. I just close the updater. I open Google Chrome, surf on the Internet etc. After 10 min, I shut off my Dell computer normaly. Now when I turn my MiniPC on, it just doesn't do anything... My hard drive doesn't starts. It sounded similar to someone scraping a knife on a plate really hard, repeatedly, then followed by a softer scraping and then it stopped.
Have you ever had any issues with DVD drive?
I have Optiarc drive (not sure exactly which one but will update later) and problem is that the drive cannot read few DVD/CDs. I have already found 3 such discs : COD5, Fritz10 and one music CD. All discs are original without any scratches.
I have also Acer Extensa and no issues - all discs are read.
I want to install a program that automatically installs the drivers from the dell website. I thought that Dell Update was such program, but it doesn't work. There are drivers that need updating since I installed them on the 19.12.2014 from the dell website, but the program says "Your system is up to date", even after manual scan. What's strange is that the latest Dell Update version on the website is 1.3, but the program updates itself to 1.4.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 6930G notebook, it approx 3 months old and was running without problem until last week when the Optiarc BD-Rom BC-5500S drive stopped loading/playing or recognising any discs in the drive whether DVD, CD or BD-Rom - all that happens is that the BD ROM drive makes a "B-Dum, B-Dum, B-Dum" noise at the regular rate of about once per second and after about 2 minutes of this timesout. If you right click on the Drive icon and select "Explore", then the drive tray ejects and the message screen "please insert a disc into drive F:" displays - when I insert a disc into the try and close then the all that happens is the noise as described about again. I do not hear a fast spinning sound at all, just the slow steady B-dum noise.
What I am trying to find out is whether the drive is broken and it is a hardware malfunction, or whether it could possibly be a driver problem or Windows Vista problem causing this, or even whether something simple like the 30-day trial of "Powerdirector" that was pre-installed but since elapsed, could have somehow caused the disc to stop working. I know nothing about filter drivers, but could this be something to look into?
Nothing loads at all - no audio Cd's no DVD's, no data discs, no blank discs. It seems strange that neither laser appears to be activating.
I bought the notebook over the internet from Amazon so am trying to find out if this is a hardware or software problem first, before contacting them, as if it is a software problem this would not be covered under the warranty.
Yesterday my brand-new VPCZ11X5E completed an automatic windows update, and shut down after completing the installation procedure. Since then windows will not start up properly: it stays in the start up phase (you know, with the windows 7 logo), before the log-on screen.

Since the last hp update my system doesn't run smoothly. And t!!he hp support assistant is also not working . I tried reinstalling hpsa but it didn't work. Then I tried to factory reset the system and it says "problem occurred while resetting",or something similar to that.it also showed that no changes where !made.

I own a Vaio FW series and I found that the Click to Disk Editor doesnt run at all as well as that the vaio update fail to update this particular application.

I don't use IE and it's obviously not a Surface Pro... Why Bluetooth would go away?? My computer also ended up in Airplane Mode for some reason, but I turned that off. On the Network Window under Wireless Devices, Bluetooth shows as Off and is grayed out...
My friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
the wireless driver on the Dell website does NOT work. Googling this problem leads me to believe that I am not the only one with it.
However I have not seen anyone with a solution; most people are just linked to the Dell website and the Dell driver, which doesn't work at all.

I'm trying to install a CD-Rom game (Dawn of war fyi) on my Studio 1537 but when I insert the CD in the computer nothing happens.
When I go to "My Computer" the drive reads "BD-ROM" (What does that mean), and if I click it nothing happens.
This computer is 6 months old. It came with Windows 7, and I did install Windows 8 in October 2012. I have had problems ever since and neither Dell nor Microsoft can support. ANYWAY, until today, my DVD/CD player worked just fine. I used it every few days, but today when I went to use it, the door would not open. I notice the light next to the Open button is not lit up, but my device manager says it is in working order and the driver is updated.
I tried Ejecting from the device manager, but it does not work. When I ran the Dell Diagnostics program, it said that it was unable to run the diagnostics when there is media in the drive or the door is open. There is a game disc in the drive, and the game works, but I think it is downloaded onto the computer, so maybe does not use the disc during play?? How can the drive work and not the door? Is there anything I can do??
I'm using windows 8.1 and my Touchpad doesn't recognize Elantech driver.
I already installed driver from Dell drivers website.
The problem is all my key fn function work but the enable/disable Touchpad doesn't work.
And I don't see any option to customize my Touchpad.
Only left click, right click, moving pointer are working, but scrolling doesn't work.
I think the driver isn't installed or maybe it isn't compatible with windows 8.1.
I can't get into the bios anymore. I updated the bios via the BIOS Update Utility 2.56 and after that I can't see the "press enter to interupt normal startup" message anymore. And therfore can't get into the bios. Windows is still booting normally.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Sony Z with 256GB of SSD. Now, Windows 7 doesn't recognize the drives as SSD, because the Defragment options are available. Windows should have known that there is a SSD drive installed and disabled Defragment. (I have another laptop with Intel X25 and this is the case)
I'm concerned that something is wrong with my drive and this is why Windows 7 doesn't see the drives as SSD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't turn off my laptop. Widnows shuts down, the hard drive LED doesn't blink, just the power LED and I can hear the fan from time to time and it just hangs there. So, all I can do is hold the power button and force it to shut down. Even more weird is the fact that I can restart the computer. This started about a month ago and I've tried everything I could think of... to no avail.Here's my system info:

Here's what I did:
1) I suspected a Windows update, so I tried to restore to a previous point.
2) Didn't want to reinstall Windows, so I tried to boot from the Windows CD and shut it down from there.
3) I tried to let it hang after the shutdown. This brought up a BSOD two times. It was DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
4) Then I started suspecting the BIOS. Updated to A13 (the latest version for my model)
5) Resetting the BIOS to default settings.
6) Updated all drivers to the latest.
7) Restored the MBR. (Windows repair said that it couldn't find my Windows installation, even though I was able to boot)
8) Tried to shut down without the battery.
9) Tried to shut down without the power adapter.
10) Ran all Dell support center tests. The short ones, though. No problems were found.
My laptop is still under warranty, so I won't open it, but I'd like to know that I have tried everything before I contact the support center.My job is on my laptop. I don't have a PC, so if I take it to support, I won't be able to work.
I have windows 7 RC installed on my VGN-SR 430J/B. I download Sony Notebook Utilities drivers. I got an error message that battery is not compatiblie, press OK to hibernate. I uninstalled it immediaty, but I may want to install it again. How can I avoid this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThis is absolutely crazy. The laptop came back to me in worse shape than it was sent off. C drive was wiped, several very large scratches that were not there before, and the CD drive simply does not work. I tried loading in a CD-R at first, and it didn't recognise it, though it might be the CD. Having the CD in at startup actually slowed down the whole boot sequence immsenely.
Since then I've tried it with several different CDs, DVDs, whatever and none of them work. The DVD drive just chugs a long and never gets anywhere.
I can't afford to send this back to be fixed now because 3 weeks was an insane time for me to be without a laptop. How costly/difficult would it be for me to replace the DVD drive myself?

The 2nd hard drive shows up in the "Hardware Manager" but it doesn't show up as a drive under "My Computer
I recently had to open up my HP G7 laptop to blow the dust of my fan and under the keyboard. When I put they keyboard back together, my wifi didn't work. I'm now on a ethernet connection. Opening network connection, there's no wifi adapter icon. I've tried installing the driver, but mid install I get this message "The driver files you wish to remove will not be removed as the corresponding card is not installed". I don't know what this means, but when I finish the install, the wireless connection is still not shown in network connections, and the driver doesnt show on device manager. What else can I try?
