HP/Compaq :: Touchpad Update Gestures
Feb 11, 2009
it looks like Synaptics has added gesture support for their touchpads with just a software update. [url] The website says the software is backwards compatible with computers purchased in the last year or so. I just got my HDX18t a week ago and can't seem to get it to work.

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.Â
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

I first noticed the issue with sensitivity. The mouse was really sensitive. I then noticed that the gestures don't work either. I cannot scroll using the mouse. So I went into great depths and tried to figure out the problem (but no solution).
Â
So I performed these steps:
-Changed the pointer speed to the fastest (I didn't like the slow pointer speed). The pointer was still pretty slow.
-Decided to change the TouchPad specific drivers. I go to the ELAN tab under mouse settings. I look and see that the "Options" button is greyed out. I also noticed that it said "Standard PS/2 Mouse"I decide to find the software to change the settings and located it in C:Program FilesElantech. I open ETDAniConf.exe and decide to do a test. I uncheck the right click and left click, and some other scroll settings. No avail.
-Then I decide to uninstall and install the drivers. Did that. Nothing changed. Changing the tapping, button, scrolling options does nothing. The mouse settings still shows it as "Standard PS/2 Mouse" even though the tab says ELAN.
-I decide to take a big step and just reinstall Windows 8 altogether using Acer Recovery. Reinstalled it, still facing the same issue. Still recognized as "Standard PS/2" mouse.
-I try another way to attempt to fix the issue. I try to find the most up to date similar driver. I located on that was much newer (2013 version rather than 08.2012). Installed it, restarted computer. Still no avail. Still recognized as "Standard PS/2 Mouse".I decided to go the last route before posting the issue here. I downloaded a copy of Windows 8 Pro from Microsoft website and transferred the ISO into the bootable flash drive. I split the hard drive into a clean partition (60GB) and installed fresh Windows 8 Pro on it, without all the Acer Drivers. Of couse I was missing the network drivers so I had to go on my Desktop to download the drivers online.
- I decide to first go and download the TouchPad drivers. Downloaded them, copied on a Flash Drive, ran them on the Acer laptop. Restarted computer. Still facing the issue.Â
I got the laptop for a good discount from my work (as a bonus of working there). It was a one time discount. As you noticed, I mentioned that it was recognizing it as "Standard PS/2 Mouse". That is the huge clue that tells me that the drivers are really buggy. The issue here is that the TouchPad drivers are not recognized like it is a TouchPad, but as a Mouse. A mouse that can only do right click, left click.

I rarely use the laptop's touch pad and use a wireless USB mouse. I forgot my mouse and the touch pad wouldn't work when I started up laptop. Borrowed someone's wired USB mouse and it worked, so I ran to Walmart and picked up a $7 wired mouse.
Â
Control Panel > Programs and Features > Elan > Unistall > Reboot = Touch pad now working.
Â
But apparently the Elan didn't reinstall as I don't see it anymore in the Programs and Features list. I thought about downloading and installing the Elan drivers, but I don't want to "fix" something that isn't broken right now.
Â
/edited to say *wireless* USB mouse

Latitude E7240 has Touchpad Alps. All works fine except settings "Flick" (Gestures -> Multi Finger Gestures).
This setting works, but after some time (random period) stops working. To fix this I need restart Apoint.exe or go to settings, deselect Flick and select it again.
My laptop's BIOS has latest version A11 and all drivers installed from web site Dell.
Also, I tried to install Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 with touchpad drivers only, but this did not solve problem.

I've been having problems with this device since the day I bought it. The second day I owned it a bad pixel jumped onto the screen. After pushing it for some time physically on the surface of the screen it dissapears for another day or two.
But my biggest problem is taht sometimes touchpad simply stops responding to any gestures or mouse cursor keeps shaking on my screen. The only ting I can do is turn off the whole touchpad and wait for it to repair itself.
Also it happens that for no apparent reason my notebook behaves like as if I had been pressing CRTL button all the time, while I dont do it at all. Pressing S key alone makes it run into save options. Left clicking on the page makes it open in a new bookmark.

I just finished installing Windows 7 on my new dv7-1285dx and while everything works just fine after a Windows update (audio/video/touchpad/sd card reader), when I run device manager there are three devices with no drivers and a small yellow exclamation mark on their icon. These three devices are all listed as "Base System Device" and when I tried searching for a driver update online it didn't find anything. I visited HP's drivers page for my model and I think I have everything listed there already working... It's just these three devices which I don't even know what they are.
In the original Vista install that came with the laptop there are no such errors in Device Manager. I already have my recovery discs if these might help in this situation.
Here my laptops full specs, you can find them here:

Two finger scrolling now works on the synaptics touchpad of my dv7
I had previously attempted to use modded drivers and other apps (none of which worked), but surprisingly, synaptics seems to have enabled it all by themselves in the latest driver, which is part of scrybe.
More about scrybe: [url]
Guide:
1. Download the ScrybeSetup.exe file from here (you can enter a junk email): [url]
2. Install the software (Make sure it installs both scrybe and the new driver)
2.1 Restart
3. Go to Control Panel>Mouse>Device Settings (Tab)>Highlight Synaptics Touchpad Vx.x> then click settings
4. Once you have the Touchpad settings windows open, you can change all kinds of settings:
Multifinger Gestures>Two Finger Scrolling (Click the gears next to the name)
Multifinger Gestures>Rotating (Click the gears next to the name)......

My DV5035nr was recently wiped and upgraded to Windows 7. the touchpad jumps around and is driving me nuts. i went on the synaptics website, and downloaded the driver suggested, but the same problem keeps happening. should i be downloading another driver? In between steps, i went into the control panel, and deleted the synaptics driver before installing the new one. the touchpad works great when there isn't a program or driver associated with it. can i run it without the extra software?

I have an ACER Aspire 5670. Recently i installed windows vista business.
From the day i installed vista my battery appears to be broken.
Ok let's say battery cells were destroyed (Fedora installed on the same system report that battery may be dammaged)-So it may be destroyed in a couple of hours.
The second weird thing is that it persists not to recognize one device. In the device manager it has a hardware ID: ACPISMCB000
Third weird story. Today my notebook prompted that there was SP1 update available. I installed it (in 3 phases - 2together at shutdown and 1 after restart)
After SP update my keyboard stopped working - same thing with touchpad. I uninstalled SP1, uninstalled synaptics driver and re-installed it - same thing.
In a forum somewhere i read that battery causes these problems. I took battery off and now i am writing this message from my notebook's keybord ... touchpad still dead...
both keyboard and touchpad work perfectly in Fedora 9 and that usb mouse/keyboard work perfect too in Vista.

My Dell Inspiron 1525's touchpad no longer works. It worked fine this morning. I updated security essentials and windows and then it stopped working after updates had installed. I tried system restore and it still does not work. I can use a corded USB mouse, but I really need the touchpad.

After updating the touchpad drivers to 16.3.7.0 A03, there has been an issue with two-finger scrolling.
When I lift my fingers off the touchpad, it jumps to the bottom of the page. This is very frustrating as I have to scroll back up to find my place. This happens with Chrome, Word, IE, Firefox, everything.
The same issue is also plaguing this user: [URL] .....

After the latest set of updates, my touchpad took to displaying a stationary gray circle/swirl half the time when I tried to move the cursor. Seemed to happen less if I moved very slowly. I turned off scrolling (again), and it's mostly gone away. Is this related to scrolling?

Dell lists the M4500, E6410, and E6510 as having "multitouch trackpads".
Does anyone here know what the gestures are, and can you list them?
I'm wondering if it's possible and/or worth it to upgrade to a E6410 palmrest when it becomes available to get the gestures.
I tried to install the E6410 drivers (apparently an Alps pad as well) on my E6400 but I didn't get anything new...

Use MultiClutch to assign multi-touch gestures in almost any application in OS X!
Quote:
Basically, Multiclutch allows you to assign custom keyboard shortcuts in a given app to a given gesture. Want swipes to change tabs in Safari? Done. The same in iChat? Done. Want zoom-in to open emails in Mail, zoom-out to close windows in every app, and a swipe down to bring up Quicksilver? Done done done.
MultiClutch works by installing a simple input manager that catches gesture events, looks to see what shortcut you’ve defined for it in the frontmost app (if you haven’t defined anything, it behaves in the standard manner), and performs that shortcut. You use a System Preference Pane to customize gestures with an interface similar to the shortcut-customization table in the Keyboard & Mouse pane. You can ‘bind’ gestures in a given Cocoa app (due to the nature of input managers, Carbon apps are not supported) or globally.

I just got the Yoga 2 Pro and it seems like a great laptop / tablet. I have one big problem: the touchpad is near-unusable for me. It seems like I'm constantly activating the switch app gesture and just cannot use it.
How do I turn off all of the gestures on the touchpad so that it just functions like a normal mouse????

I recently got my laptop reformatted due to a BSOD startup loop and when I got it back (the store I bought it from "fixed" it for free), I started it up and noticed that my gestures were missing.
Â
They're kinda hard to live without once you've had them, and it is most unfortunate that I have lost these gestures. So, how do I get them back?
Â
Some Notes: I have an Acer E5-471
Â
My "Mice and other pointing devices" show that I have a PS/2 compatible mouse (I thought they were supposed to have like an ELAN or Synaptics something before the word)....
Â
I tried troubleshooting and it showed me that the 3D Video Controller has no driver and the PCI device doesn't have a driver (I figured I'd include them in case they were the cause of the loss of gestures)....

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 and installed the Dell Synaptic Drivers v13.2.2.2, I seem to have gained additional touchpad gestures.
Along with the original chiral-scroll and two-finger zoom I now have:
-two-finger scrolling (vertical and horizontal)
-three-finger forward/back for web browsers and the Windows image viewer
-rotate
-three-finger quick launch (holding three fingers down for 1 second opens notepad)
-momentum (I'm not sure if this one is new)

I recently bought a Vostro V13 (base model) with Celeron 743 + 2gb ram = Ubuntu 9.10.
I decided to switch to Windows 7 64bit. Everything runs fine, except for the touchpad. I doesn't have any multi touch capability what so ever.
I tried a few things:
Update driver automatically
Update driver directly from Synaptics
Install driver from Alps
Nothing worked. Now, I just realized that the Synaptics setting option doesn't even has the "virtual scrolling menu".

i'm having problems with my new acer v5 touchpad... i made a clean install of windows 8.1 and installed all the win 8.1 drivers from the acer support site. from the device id of my touchpad (ACPISYN1B71) i assumed that it is a synaptics model.
Â
the problem now: after installing several versions of the driver, even trying the alps and elantech versions, i could never manage to get multi-gesture settings in the settings windows from synaptics - there are only settings visible for right- and left-click. where are the multi-touch gesture options for windows 8?
Â
basic funtions work, like left click, two-finger right click and two-finger scrolling, but nothing is configurable and all the other gestures are not available.

I am one of the lucky ones who just got the X1 Carbon Touch (after a 2 month wait).
Â
Touch screen is VERY spotty. Will just stop working. All the time. Even in the middle of gestures.
Â
I found that by going to the upper right corner touch will start working again, and then it'll stop moments later in the middle of an activity.
Â
This is Windows 8, of course. I have used plenty of other Windows 8 devices so I'm not a novice. I have never seen this behavior. Is this a driver problem? A setting I don't know about (some special Lenovo thing?). I am hoping its not hardware. The fact that touching the upper right corner enables things for awhile seems to indicate its not hardware but not certain.

I just bought my Acer Aspire V5-552g a week ago. Everything seems to be working fine. However, Windows advised me to install updates which I did. After installing the updates the touch gestures are not working anymore. I tried updating my drivers, which I downloaded from the Acer support site, but it did not work. All gestures are not working. What I need to do. Is this a result of updating Windows? How can I undo the update?

Whenever I do a gesture from the side after not touching the screen for more than 4 seconds, it doesn't work. It instead registers it as a swipe on the screen near the edge. This is very annoying. It happens constantly.
Â
I suspect this may be the result of a power-saving feature. Maybe the touch-screen turns off after a few seconds and needs to be awoken by tapping it before swiping in from the side. If this is the case, then please up the timer from 3 or 4 seconds to more like 30 or 60. This ruins the smooth flow of Windows 8, if I'm watching a video full-screen in IE and it registers taps of the screen as a pause command, I can't open up the start menu or dock the app to the side without first pausing the video.
Â
Do I need to update drivers? Any update that I'm missing, but I didn't even see an appropriate driver on the driver page. None of them said anything about touch-screen.

if you're having problems with the speakers on the dm3. I want you to go to hp's website and update the "bios" its very easy to update it. Just type in the model of you're dm3 and click on drivers, and then click on the correct operating system you have.
Make sure you specify if its 32 bit or 64 bit. Then click on the bios update half way down the page and update it. Then I want you to shut down you're dm3 completely. Once its shut down turn it back on and start hitting the "f-10" key on top of you're keyboard.
Keep hitting it until you see it enter a page that is all text, the bios page. This page will not look like a normal page that you're used to and your mouse will not be active. if it asks you to exit say no. Once you are on this page start to hit any of the letter
keys(example- hyfwgsldi, anyone) to produce a beeping sound from your laptop. Now, Pick up your laptop and place the speaker very close to you're ear and listen very carefully if sound is coming out of both sides. There should be sound coming from the left and the right side of the speakers. Now if there is sound only coming from the left side then I have confirmed with a hp level 2 tech that its a hardware problem. This is what is wrong with mine. Either the factory forgot to connect the wires the right side for the speakers or the speaker company messed something up. At this point no software or driver will fix the problem and you need to send you're dm3 in for service or exchange it for another one. Please trust me on this as I spent close to 30 hours and 7 days on the phone with HP.
