HP Envy TS 15 J057c OS/Software :: Unable To Update To Windows 8.1
May 26, 2010
Have an HP Envy Touchsmart 15-j057cl. I am unable to update to Windows 8.1. I have done the following:
1. Installed all windows updates.
2. Gone to HP support page for machine and installed all driver updates.
3. Run Windows compatibility manager - no issues identified.
4. Removed preinstaled Norton. No virus software enabled.
5. Attempted update from Windows store.
6. Black screen.
Reverted to Windows 8. Windows reported various error messages across various attempts including:
0xc1900101 - 0x3000D
Then -
1. Disabled Ralink bluetooth and wifi drivers
2. Attempted windows 8.1 update from windows store
3. Black Screen
Reverted to windows 8
I've tried very hard to ensure I've gotten all of the latest drivers and BIOS, including chipset drivers. I have not installed any other software. I've also disabled any driver that I can afford not to have, yet the update continues to fail.
Basically, friend bought the laptop and got viruses on it. I went and reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows 8.1 and have no way to activate it now as there is no license key sticker anywhere to be found.
Is there any way to activate Windows point without buying another retail copy of Windows 8? Seems ridiculous that they would move to this method of having a SLIC BIOS with an inserted key that you can't activate off of.
i am using hp15-d017tu notebook. It's comes with free dos but i install it to windows 8 pro.Yesterday i update my windows ,after updating the windows i can not change my start screen, acount picture and lock screen that mean all pwrsonalize is not working also i can not install any software from windows store.
I have an ENVY 17 (3277nr) with windows 8.1 in it but I'm unable to update it since several months ago so I decided to reinstall the OS so I went to the windows site that lets you download an ISO image of windows 8.1 to burn it into a disc (right now I dont have a 4gb usb at hand but is also possible).
I already burned the disc by right clicking the ISO and selecting 'burn disc image' and changed the boot options but every time I turn on my computer all I see is a single underscore and then the regular windows 8 boot screen.
I already visited wbesites in this regard and I've read things like the windows 8 UEFI thing (not on my laptop since I've upgraded from w7) and the security settings on the BIOS but none of them seem to fix the problem.
Additional details:
Oddly, when trying to open the burned dvd it only says 4.37gb out of 4.37gb, do you think my dvd drive might be damaged?
I have this HP envy 17 j000eb notebook with Windows 8 that I really would like to get rid of.
I managed to install Windows 7 on it, but it doesn't recognise some hardware.
Luckily audio and video works as well as the touchpad and DVD-rom, but I don't have any of network adapters installed, nor USB, and I still cannot find any drivers for them.
It shows a dozen of pieces of hardware needed to be installed.
From last few weeks, I am facing a problem, I am unable to hear the sound, once I open the laptop, I can hear the sound for few minutes after that their is no sound, I am using (hp envy beta) window 8.
I just updated my G780 to Windows 8.1 this morning. every time I boot up the computer, I get an Error message stating" Dolby Advanced Audio - Unable to start the Dolby Audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists. I have restrtaed the computer and I do not know where the driver is for this or where to install it. Computer is just over a month old.
A few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible.
I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

I have all current drivers and software. It came with Windows 8 and I am trying to install 8.1. It does well until the restart. I do the restart and it gets part way through and the screen goes dark and hours later the screen is still dark. I press the power button and it says something like :Trying to recover install" and from there on nothing happens. I finally end up having to go back to windows 8.
My notebook restarted itself to make updates, once i logged on i found that the sound is not working on music files, web pages etc. other than the windows sound. The other thing i noticed is that the mute button will not go off or on? i tried to troubleshoot but nothing..I found that left clicking my sound icon and clicking on playback devices and then left clicking speakers and headphones and clicking 'Test' led to a pop up; "Device in Use.The device is being used by another application. any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again." I have checked everywhere but i can't find the device being used anywhere? I'm not willing to lose by Beats Audio.

I have the Envy 15 which came pre-installed with Win8. When the 8.1 update came out I installed and now can't get any audio when connecting via HDMI to my TV although image is there.
I've ensured all the drivers are updated AFAIK, but in the Device Manager I get the highlighted, obviously as above, the cable is plugged in.
All was working fine prior to the update and I have also used 4 different cables, which are all fine as I also have an old Compaq laptop which is still running Win8 allows audio via HDMI.
I have an HP Envy-m6 with switchable graphics, with the usual combination of an Intel HD 4000 and an AMD Radeon HD 7600M card.
When I had just bought the laptop and hadn't realised it had switchable graphics, I made the mistake of updating the drivers for one of these cards via the manufacturer's websites, causing it all to go haywire. I eventually managed to restore this, and was told that the only way in which you can update these drivers is via the driver software offerend on the HP website (or perhap using HP Support Assistant).
However, just today Windows Update indicated it had updates for both the AMD and Intel drivers. My question is simply this: can I update both drivers through Windows Update, or will this cause switchable graphics to break?
If I cannot use Windows Update to update these drivers, is HP going to release a combined driver package that incorporates these new drivers on the Support website at some point?
I can't update my hp envy dv6-7392ef from windows8 to windows8.1. The update goes to 90% then reboot and say to me that the update can't apply with the error: 0xC1900101-0x40017.
All my drivers are update. I have no strange software.
I am using an Envy TouchSmart 15 and I have just run an update of Windows 8.1 based on the system auto update (it ran 5 updates).
Prior to the update, I used a 27" monitor as the main screen and this was connected via the HDMI port. Right after the update, the system doesn't seem to recognise the HDMI port anymore and it goes back to using the Envy laptop screen as the main screen. I changed the HDMI cable but it made no difference. I subsequently connected another laptop to the 27" monitor via HDMI and it worked fine. So it appears both the monitor and the HDMI cable are fine.
Since updating to Windows 8.1 I have had little other than problems. It added a few useful features, but other than that made things worse in general.
At first the problem was barely noticable at all. I would rightclick on a media file and sometimes it would maybe take a second longer than usual to bring up the context menu. Over the last two weeks it got longer and longer. At first it was mainly only when rightclicking on a media file. I noticed a big change when I tried to rename songs and movies last weekend. WHen it took about 5 seconds to bring up the menu.
Since yesterday that went up to 8 seconds and I also started seeing it when right clicking on any folders, apps, or games. Anything really. Another strange thing, every now and then after I right click, it would wait 8 seconds, the screen would go blank almost like it refreshes, and nothing would happen. Sometimes it would even move icons back to their "default" places before I moved them. Which is another annoyance. This has NEVER happened before I updated to 8.1.
I have the HP Envy 15-j063ei Windows 8.1 64-Bit 8GB RAM 1TB HDD Core 17-4700MQ 2.4GHz GeForce 740M 2GB
I got automatic Windows up date last night. After the updates, I can't do anything except turn on the computer, see the HP page, the green log in with password page, then all goes dark blue and freezes. It will not even rcognize the keyboard to back out. It is an HP Envy 20 all in one desktop. I have removed the back, all looks good, everything is secured and in place.
I have a small issue with my Lenovo G580 (20150). I have Windows 8.1 and i have noticed that my 4GB of RAM DDR3 run at 800mhz. I have searched for everything, even swapped the RAM but there is no change in the frequency, it simply runs on 800mhz. I have tried to update the BIOS from 5ECN39WW (v 3.05) to 5ECN96WW, but whenever i try to do that it comes back with the error message "DC detect error!".
On the dell driver download page there's no bios update available when I filter by my service tag, but if I go to all related updates for this product it's up to A09. The bios and video bios were shadowed.
I own a HP Pavilion G6 2105tx with Windows 7 64bit version. The Problem is that im unable to update my GPU driver. I searched this site and downloaded the appropriate driver for my notebook. But when i tried to install, i receive an error message that my notebook is not supported. I rechecked and im sure that i downloaded the correct driver listed for my notebook model. My Graphic card is Intel HD Graphics 4000.
I am unable to update the BIOS on the Thinkpad listed below.I have tried to run Boot CD version of the update program (using CD player in dock) and it reports the error:"The system program file is not correct for this system"..The Windows based BIOS update program reports the error (in or out of dock):
"The process does not recognize this system. The process has been cancelled"..The Lenovo support page lists the new BIOS as being appropriate for this model. The BIOS reports the correct model and serial number.I desire to update the BIOS only as part of a software reload / refresh of the laptop. No actual problem with current BIOS to my knowledge.

I own a Vaio FW series and I found that the Click to Disk Editor doesnt run at all as well as that the vaio update fail to update this particular application.
System: HP Pavilion DV4-1125nr Notebook PC Product#: FR922UAR#AB System Board Id: 30F7 BIOS Version (before update): F.12 OS: Windows 7
I tried to upgrade the BIOS to F.55 which was provided by HP. After successfull installation of new BIOS windows shutdown properly. I start the PC again, HP Logo appears, and then nothing happen. The OS does not load or boot at all.
I also tried to boot using Windows 98 Second Edition CD (to load DOS) but this also did not work.
I own an HP Envy dv6 Notebook PC, MOdel No.2CE243OCYT. It has an Atheros AR9485 802.11 b:g:n WiFi adapter. There is an HP update for that adapter, but when I updated it, I was unable to connect to the internet. I realize that this WiFi adapter is only for 2.5G. I had to refresh my laptop, then I had internet access again. I have not tried that driver update again, but TWC just updated my Cable modem to dual band using the 2.5G and 5G bands.I am afraid to install the Atheros update in my lapotop again because I don't want to go though the hassle of re-installing all my software pd[rograms again. Is there a dual band WiFi adapter that HP recommends, and is it easy to install?
I have a brand new HP Envy X2 (15-C001dx) with Windows 8.1. So far it works fine by itself. I tried connecting an external monitor to the laptop using an HDMI cable from the laptop to an LG L246WPQ display. The problem is that 10-15% of the left side of the laptop screen content does not appear on the external monitor. Missing from the external monitor is the word "Start" in the upper left corner along with roughly the 2 leftmost columns of tiles. This occurs in both "Duplicate display" or "Only display on screen 2" modes. This is using a resolution of 1680x1050 which both the laptop and the LG appear to support. Using the touch screen on the laptop I can scroll the tiles to the right and see the missing leftmost columns. The information that is displayed on the external monitor begins as far left as that monitor will display. In other words, there is no black/blank area on the left. Except for the missing information on the left side, the content of the rest of the external monitor looks fine. I updated the laptop's video driver to the latest on HP.COM. No change in behavior. I tried every option I could find on the LG OnScreenDisplay, but nothing made the display any better.
i have recently purchased and HP Envy 17 laptop and have been trying to backup all of my iPhone 5s photos and videos onto the laptop however every time i try to play videos either through the photos folder or the photos library app nothing works. In the photo app the app just freezes and crashes and in the photos documents folder media player just comes up not responding. This happens with the vast majority of my videos.
I have seen that other people have had the same issue and i have installed the VLC video app as suggested and still nothing works. There has been an IOS update since i started taking videos however this makes no diffeence as the handful of videos that do work are from both before and after the update so it can not be an issue with my phone and the videos i have taken in the last few days dont work... how i can fix this?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-6154tx laptop. My current version of BIOS installed is Hewlett-Packard F.1B, 05/10/11.I wanted to check if my BIOS is up to date, and if there was a newer version of BIOS available.
So I went to the HP Support page for laptops (URL...) and chose Pavilion Notebooks > Models dv4000 to dv6999 > dv6000 Entertainment Notebook PC series > Matching products outside the United States.
But alas, I could not find my laptop's model listed there. There's dv6150tx and then it jumps to dv6161ea, but no dv6154tx. Is there any other way I can update my laptop's BIOS?
I'd been having problems with the microphone not picking up voice well after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I went to Lenovo's website and downloaded IDT audio driver version 6.10.6490.0 for Windows 8.1 64bit. I ran the exectuable that was downloaded and now the Microphone works much better however now Dolby Advanced Audio is unable to start. I get the following warning message everytime I start the laptop:
"Unable to start the Dolby Audio driver. Please restart the computer or reinstall the driver if the problem persists."
Restarting has not worked. Running the driver executable again did not correct the issue.
I found this solution on the support forums but it is unclear about what to uninstall in "Device Manager"[URL]..."Open Device Manager Uninstall the Audio Device Under Audio inputs and outputs"I have a Microphone, Speakers, and Stereo Mix listed under Audio Inputs and Outputs.
I have an HP Envy m6 laptop with a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.1b/g/n WiFi Adapter.
I have a Belkin DB600 N+ router.
All the phones and pc's on the wifi are fine and picking up the N-band.
My laptop is not. I have Windows 8.1 installed in it. My laptop is running fine on the g-band, and it's seeing all the b and g bands, just not the n-band.
I've updated my wifi adapter driver through the "Update Driver" option on the adapter, and I've also uninstalled and rebooted my wifi adapter driver (to have it reset to the original driver). It's still not picking up the n-band.
I just got a brand new HP Envy. However, i have not been able to maintain a wifi connection. Usually it will not connect to my wifi or will only connect for a few minutes and then say 'limited' and then not connect at all. I did the full windows updates for the computer. I updated the drivers for the wifi adapter. I updated the firmware to my router. I also uninstalled norton. None of these have worked, still will not connect or will connect and drop within a few minutes. My system information is as follows:
My wifi router information is: Netgear N150 model WPN824N Channel is set to auto Mode: up to 150 MB per Second Security: WPA2/PSK [AES]
I have two ipads, two iphones, an xbox, a windows phone, two toshiba laptops, and one hp pavillion DM3 that are able to connect and maintain wifi connection with no problem (not all connected at the some time necessarily-it is not an overloading problem). The network is running fine, i just cannot figure out what the problem is with this HP Envy.
