Just purcased Aspire E1-510-2611 - 64 bit, Windows 8.1 - as it was set up in store as display model it appears to be in "Display Mode" - with account already entered, etc. How do I reset to factory defaults so that when I turn it on it is just like turning it on for the first time or is there a better way to get back to the "just out of the box" condition?
View 3 Replies View Related2 weeks ago I began having video issues on my system. At that time, I was able to get to the login screen and right after I logged in, the screen started blinking at a constant rate (about evey second). To fix this, I booted to the Startup Menu (hit ESC after power on) and got the text based menu. From there I could get to the nice little graphical Windows Startup Options Menus. I used that to do system restore back to July and this seemed to work for a couple weeks. Now when I start the laptop, it quickly goes to a screen full of little dots all over and I can't see anything. I was able to get the text based statup menu that listed (system info, sys diags, ..., Starup menu). But when I tried to get the graphics based menus, it immediately when to the screen with dots so I could not do any of the recovery or start up options (like safe mode).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â

View 9 Replies View RelatedI’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).
I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.
Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.
As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.
Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .
I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.

When I press enter to "Try again" it come back with:

I have tried the Recovery and after MUCH time waiting, it still comes back to the above mentioned screen. I am working on an Envy Pro 4-b000.  The hard drive has failed.  I have a replacement drive on the way, but I did not create a  recovery disk when the laptop was purchased.  It had windows 7 - 64 bit on it previously.  What are my options to getting recovery media for this laptop?

I purchased a Pavilion g7 laptop in December 2012. The 1TB HDD that came with the laptop started to go bad on me. After several attempts to 'system self-repair' (which failed) I purchased a replacement Seagate SSHD 1TB HD. Since I did not have any Windows 8 recovery discs I contacted HP, paid for and had them sent to me.
Â
So now I have a new SSHD, new W8 recovery discs and my laptop. I replaced the HD and started the recovery process per the paper instructions that came with the discs.
Â
At 4% (in the 'Copying files required to restore the hard drive phase') I get an error message:
Â
Reducer (Title of the error message)
Â
                   Copy File Fails
                   From: D:/PRELOAD/BASE14.SWM
                   To: C:/RM/Image/BASE14.SWM
Â
                    Press OK to retry.Â
Â
Obviously since I'm posting about this simply pressing 'OK to retry' did not work. I powered the laptop down and restarted the recovery process. I got the same error message at the same point described above.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.
View 9 Replies View Relatedthru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:
Â
- restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive
- windows starts loading files
- I can hear the writer spinning up
- recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue
- windows starts loading files and atempts to start
- restoration incomplete, hit retry
- cycle repeats
Â
HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck
Â
When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results
Â
My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc
Â
Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.
Â
3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.
Â
So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)
 Â
[URL] Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to
(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.
Â
I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…
Â

This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.
ive just finished setting up my new acer ES1-512, And was about to make my recovery media through the acer console in windows 8.1, and the program will not open ? i get to the part where it wants me to allow the program to make changes, but then nothing happens ? i have tried going to the file location its self to to start the program but this makes no difference, ive looked all over acers site to see if i can re-download the console but have found nothing?

so how can i get the recovery partition back to my notebook??
I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.
I have HP Pavillion DV6 6115tx laptop and accidently i deleted the Drivers And Applications Source For Recovery Manager from C:.. Now I want to get that source back.
