What is the point of sending a laptop to repairs if they do more damage than good? I could put up with the dodgy screen. I have months of work, musical compositions etc. stored on that laptop. This is a disgrace and I can't imagine what would possibly compensate for it. I'll have to see what I can get off my old laptop that I gave to someone else and look through my emails for stuff I sent people.
View 10 RepliesMy daughter has managed to get a virus on my laptop which has completely wiped it out, it won't start windows, it won't do anything. Its an acer aspire laptop and I worked out it has a partition from googling and did the Alt F10 thing which seemed to work a dream, did a restore to factory defaults etc. etc. but it then started to load windows, I had to choose my location,enter username and password etc. etc. and then nothing, just a blue screen (which is the windows backdrop) and nothing. I've taken the battery out after about 2 hours, restarted the computer and it did the same again and has now been sitting at this blue screen for an hour or so, should I do Alt F10 again? or am I just suppose to wait it out?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am trying to repair a ZD7000 series laptop. The initial problem was that it had a broken AC Jack. I got a new AC jack and soldered that in. While I was at it, I also got a 3.2GHz P4 out of another laptop to replace the one that was in this laptop.
Now the laptop does not pass the boot screen. It will just display the HP splash page, then reboot. No BIOS beeps. It does this on both AC power and battery.
I have tried different ram as well, with no luck.
I am shipping my Acer 5315-2713 to Texas Acer repair. What is the best way to pack a laptop? I never had to do this before.
Acer said I only have a year warranty on this laptop is that normal for a laptop? It seems short to me. Has long as it covers a free LCD repair I am happy.
i have a Acer aspire 6920g problem is i upgraded to vista ultimate now its wiped all my factory settings for example it used to have a nvidia 9500m gs now it says its only a standard vga onboard,it used to display 1366x1024 now only 1024x768, also i lost alot of things like the tuba bass sound the hd,and crystalbrite stuff ,it also says i only have one storage device when before,if a sucessful resolution and my baby is back then there will be ££££ involved as i know next to nothing of tech

View 10 Replies View RelatedI know there's 2 ways to do this but I have speed concerns....basically I want to stick a Raptor into my laptop which is 99% of the time stationed. Here are the only two ways that I know.
1) Build an external USB 2.0 by buying an external exclosure etc.
2) Hooking the raptor directly up with a power source..This I remember seeing on Tom's Hardware but I cannot find it and I don't think they explain it that well...
What I am worried about is if the External Raptor would limit its power? and What do I need to hook it directly up to my laptop with a power source(wihtout screwing with laptop voltages).
My current harddrive for my hp dv 6263cl laptop need replacement, what size does it use 2.5" or 3.5"? On the hp website...Hp specs, it says it uses a SATA drive. So I bought this one from...Seagate internal harddrive. When I goto replace it, the connectors are different, the one I bought is like this...Seagate connectors, its a flat board and there is a rectangle usb size on the left seperate from the other ones. The hard drive connectors that came with the laptop looks like the seagate one except it's not flat, it's like a slot and it doesn't have the black covering on the bottom, like this...Pre-installed Harddrive connectors. Sorry I don't really know how to say it, but the new drive won't fit.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 10 months ago. About 3 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came today and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but still wobbled, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem.
Now yesterday, after he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! Am I just being finicky/picky or should I ask them to fix it?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. So, a few months ago, I got mad at my laptop and slammed the screen down. I think it was taking its sweet time shutting down or something. I can't remember. Anyway, the next time I tried to turn it on, it goes into Startup Repair, and then comes up with a screen of errors, namely "StartupRepairOffline", "Autofailover", "NoOSInstalled". I can go into advanced options and go into DOS command (it comes up to the X drive); I was able to successfully pull off stuff I wanted, but I'm thinking I damaged the hard drive. I've let this sit for awhile, using my daughters' laptop, but now I want mine back and want to repair it. What should I do first? Also, I don't think I have any startup disks or anything like that.

Anyway a friend gave me his set of os x 10.4.6 dvds so I can install a mac os but for some reason they won't install, it starts like it's going to install then a message pops up saying' this software can't be installed on this computer'' or something like that..
What can I do, the last owner of this macbook says he lost the CDs that came with it, when he was moving..
i have an 11.1" screen tx series, but the screen is cracked.
i have checked on various site, ebay store, and the cheapest i can get an oem replacement is around $300.
i am just wondering is it possible i can just buy any 11.1" netbook, and use its screen on the sony machine? since the netbook costs about the same as the lcd screen, and i can use the other parts too.
i've just received my repaired dv2310 back from HP due to a motherboard failure. everything is back to normal now.. boots fine, although GPU temp still a little on the hot side. its at 81C now and the only thing i'm doing is typing this message. CPU temp around 55-60C light load. (Turion 64x2 1.6ghz)
but one major issue.. the HP tech SCRATCHED MY SCREEN! theres several nicks on the upper left portion.. its very obvious when i am looking a blank white page..
should i call HP and complain? would there be a case? I did take some pics of the laptop and screen before I shipped it just to prepare for situations like these. so anyone's screens got scratched up and went after HP for a replacement?
I have an acer 5620z and the hard drive died. I replaced the hard drive and I have recovery cd's but I can't use them as it looks for partitions. I have read that I need to partition the hard drive first so I downloaded the DiskFormatDT_V1-1D.iso and installed it. during the process it didn't see the hard drive but it ran through with no errors (by the way the bios does see the hard drive).
After the disk format cd I tried the recovery cds and I get the 'no partition found error' so i am stuck. i know there is the PQService but I don't know what to do as I need to be able to partition the drive so i can run recovery cds. As it is a new disk Alt F10 etc wont work.
I have talked with someone who has this laptop and he says that after about 4 days after installing windows it will change the drive to read only so it can't load windows or linux correctly. Is this some kind of easy fix or could it just be a motherboard problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedA friend brought me a Aspire 3023WLMi few weeks ago. Problem: Unable to boot. BIOS didn't recognize harddrive. I switched it to another laptop which reported SMART-error. I replaced it with another harddrive. Now BIOS still won't recognize harddrive or DVD-drive (can't remember if it recognized DVD earlier with original harddrive). I can't open DVD-drive, so obviously it's not getting any power. if this a sign of broken MB, or just loose cabling? Or something else? If it's loose cabling, how to check it?

If I start up windows normally, it will think and then shows a window that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".. I ran some test that told me it failed because my dst drive , or something hard drive 1, system E I'm not really sure.

My girlfriends Inspiron 1545 WINDOWS 7 got the blue screen message.
After trying to restore to a prior date it is now stuck in a repair loop.
My mums computer has ended up in a Black screen "Preparing automatic repair" loop and therefore will not boot :(
None of the repair options work from the boot options etc, so I need the OEM win 8.0 installation disk, so that I can at least boot to safe mode and maybe correct from there once out of the boot loop.
I have a 4 month old Acer Aspire 6920G laptop with a cracked LCD. It happened just by catching the corner of it (the plastic surround, not the lcd) with the back of my hand (it was just a tap for god's sake!) as I went to plug in a memory stick. Brilliant. I guess the screen was weakened for some reason.
Anyway, I know the screen isn't covered by the warranty so I was wondering how much Acer charge to replace the screen? I've looked around and can get a new replacement screen for about £95 and fit it myself but I assume that will void the rest of my warranty? I'm happy to go the DIY route if a screen is far more expensive from Acer.
i recently used erecovery programme to repai windows. Everything is fine now but on startup it asks me every time to choose between erecovery or windows vista. Vista is working fine now but i was just wondering how to get rid of the selection screen on startup and make it load vista as normal.

I sent my Acer Aspire 4315 notebook to their repair center in Texas. I had a problem with the jack input for the power. It wasn't responding and found out that it was broken (Update: it wasn't actually broken it just felt very loose to the point were it might break). Also the left corner of the notebook was loose. In order to send in your notebook you have to use there online acer depot repair request system. So I sent it in using UPS ground which cost me $40. After 3 days I received and email saying it was received. 2 days later I receive another email saying it was fixed and will be shipped back using Fedex. Then 4 days later when I got home I received a "door tag" saying i wasn't there to pick up the package and sign for it. It came at 11:30 A.M and I get home a 4:00 P.M. So obviously I couldn't sign for it. Because of this problem I called and requested that they ship it after 4:00. They said they can ask the driver but it doesn't guarantee that will be shipped at the time you requested. So the next I come home I get another "door tag" saying I missed my package the second time. This time I asked them to leave it at there facility and let me pick it up. They said I would have to wait until tommorow to get my package. Tommorow arrives and I pick it up. Finally I have my notebook. I now drive back and open up the box. It came with a paper saying it was fixed. So I now get my AC adapter to plug it in. And guess what? They didn't fix the problem. I carefully looked at the paper and it said that they fixed problem stated which in there mind was the loose left corner of my notebook. WTF? They didn't even bother to fixed the important problem, the POWER JACK! That's horrible service! I then call them saying they didn't fix the problem. after being transferred 5 YES 5 TIMES! The support person said they will pay for the shipping to send it back. Which means that I will have to wait even more to get it back AGAIN and actually have it fixed. The only good part about it being shipped back is that they are going to use Fedex priority overnight. WOW WHAT A TREAT!
UPDATE: I havn't shipped the laptop back. I was about to until I decided to take one last "explore" inside of it. I found out that the power jack wasn't directly attached to the motherboard, just a wire leading to it. So with a little superglue or epoxy it would be fixed. Now that I know what to do. There will be no need to send it back and wait another horrible week!
My problem is my acer travelmate 4200 screen is now showing only 1024 x 768 (4:3) there are black boder on right side of the screen that doesn't show anything.
The back lighting in that area is normal. my laptop is 15 inch and the native resolution is 1280 x 768 but when i check the Hide mode that monitor doesn't support option it only display 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768 only.
I already update the BIOS and the graphic driver but the problem still remain. I search the internet and found that i problem may be due to epresentation.I update the epresentation and the problem persist.

I would like to use a disc imge to transferr all the partitions and system restore data to the new hard drive. How can i do this. And is this the only option left open to me. to restores the operating system and system configuration.
