Acer :: Sent Laptop For Screen Repair, Harddrive Wiped
Apr 3, 2009What is the point of sending a laptop to repairs if they do more damage than good? I could put up with the dodgy screen. I have months of work, musical compositions etc. stored on that laptop. This is a disgrace and I can't imagine what would possibly compensate for it. I'll have to see what I can get off my old laptop that I gave to someone else and look through my emails for stuff I sent people.

Nov 13, 2008I have a Vostro 1500, which I bought 10 months ago. About 3 months ago the screen became loose and wobbled about 10 degrees when computer was moved or if I was on the train and it went over bumps. I tightened the screws as advised but this did not have any real effect. Dell engineer came and replaced the back cover with new hinges, (as they though hinges may be broken/at fault but they were fine,) but some wobble was still noticable so he ordered a new base. He came today and took the screen out complete with all the screen casing out of the old base, and put it into the new base, but still wobbled, so just put it back in the old base as it wouldn't have cured the problem.
Now yesterday, after he put the new back cover on, he had to take the plastic around the front of the screen off. After he put it together I noticed that the screen is no longer flush with the plastic surround and it annoys me! Am I just being finicky/picky or should I ask them to fix it?
Dell :: Long Black Load Screen
Apr 1, 2010So I just got my new 1647 replacement set up finally and one thing I keep running into is an INCREDIBLY long black load screen between the windows 7 animation thingy and when you actually log in..
Even the windows 7 animation takes longer to load than normal...Than I get a black screen for a good 2 minutes before my mouse then shows up then about another 30 secs I get the login finally...
Whats going on? I have my old 1640 side by side and it boots instantly!

Apr 11, 2010i have an 11.1" screen tx series, but the screen is cracked.
i have checked on various site, ebay store, and the cheapest i can get an oem replacement is around $300.
i am just wondering is it possible i can just buy any 11.1" netbook, and use its screen on the sony machine? since the netbook costs about the same as the lcd screen, and i can use the other parts too.
HP/Compaq :: HP Tech Scratched My Screen During The Repair
Sep 22, 2009i've just received my repaired dv2310 back from HP due to a motherboard failure. everything is back to normal now.. boots fine, although GPU temp still a little on the hot side. its at 81C now and the only thing i'm doing is typing this message. CPU temp around 55-60C light load. (Turion 64x2 1.6ghz)
but one major issue.. the HP tech SCRATCHED MY SCREEN! theres several nicks on the upper left portion.. its very obvious when i am looking a blank white page..
should i call HP and complain? would there be a case? I did take some pics of the laptop and screen before I shipped it just to prepare for situations like these. so anyone's screens got scratched up and went after HP for a replacement?
Dell Inspiron 1525 :: Shows Black Screen After Startup Repair
Mar 11, 2013My Inspiron 1525 when it starts up and I choose startup repair after a few seconds the screen will go black. If I start up windows normally, it will think and then shows a window that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".. I pressed F12 at startup and chose diagnostics and I got the error code 0142. What should I do??

Aug 9, 2007I just spilled a large pepsi all over my 9300 and called tech support and they are having me send the laptop to the depot and then said I should get it back in 5-8 business days. Do they even have the parts laying around to fix my laptop? The thing won't even power up anymore. The tech had me remove the hard drive from the laptop and even it was still a little damp! That means that even if they do fix the laptop and I get it back in say 2 weeks, if the hard drive doesn't work when I reinsert it I have to wait another several days for a replacement hard drive!

Aug 26, 2009I am trying to repair a ZD7000 series laptop. The initial problem was that it had a broken AC Jack. I got a new AC jack and soldered that in. While I was at it, I also got a 3.2GHz P4 out of another laptop to replace the one that was in this laptop.
Now the laptop does not pass the boot screen. It will just display the HP splash page, then reboot. No BIOS beeps. It does this on both AC power and battery.
I have tried different ram as well, with no luck.

None of the repair options work from the boot options etc, so I need the OEM win 8.0 installation disk, so that I can at least boot to safe mode and maybe correct from there once out of the boot loop.

Sep 14, 2009I have a Dell 17" laptop and the screen shows this blueish green vertical on startup.
After a few minutes of warming up the line goes away and the screen looks normal. The line reappears on reboot though.
Looks like this is a problem with the backlight/inverter. The laptop is almost 4 years old, but I would like to keep it going a little while longer

My M1530 has been a disaster. I have had the GPU replaced, the motherboard replaced, the battery replaced, the DVD drive replaced, the speakers replaced, the palm rests replaced, the heatsink and fan replaced, and now the speakers have gone bad again.
Dell :: Worth Sending M1330 For Repairs
Dec 13, 2008Just got off the phone with a dell technician for cpu whine. Last month my computer died, they sent over a tech and he basically replaced everything in my laptop. The whine got ten times worst. I am on the phone with tech now and he is offering tech to come back and replace same exact parts or send it into Dell Depot for them to take a crack at it.
Is it worth sacrificing my laptop for 2 weeks? will dell likely tell me the whine is something "generally found in laptops" and i should deal with it? or has someone had their laptops successfully fixed by dell with respect to whine...
BTW they already rejected my request for an upgrade from my t7500...
Dell :: Artifacting, Not Fixed After 5 Repairs And A Week With
Nov 17, 2007So about 3-4 weeks ago now I had to have my 7900GS replaced due to artifacting problems, and this ended up being a problem that was not fixed even after 3 repairs and replacements of the GPU itself, motherboard and screen, all got replaced about 3 or 4 times.
I rang up Dell for the 4th time, and asked to have a replacement but was told this was not possible until it gets to the stage where they need to take it in to the workshop. Anyway, the next day the technician came out and replaced the motherboard, GPU and screen again, and the problem was still there. I was sure that this would be fixed now, because they wanted to take it in to the workshop, which they did.
Now, I believe the problem has resurfaced, I was playing Crysis tonight and I had some more artifacting, the same type that I was getting before but, just in smaller areas instead of the whole screen. Here are some screenshots of the issue:

This has been happening on and off tonight, room temperature has been cool and I didn't notice any overheating.
Now I haven't noticed this within the last hour or so of playing, and goes away if I alt-tab then get back in game. The only other game I have been playing is Counter-Strike Source and I haven't noticed any artifacting in that, but that could be because it's nowhere near as graphically demanding.
I'm worried that the problem will keep coming back and possibly get worse, I have not overclocked nor plan to overclock and keep my machine in a very well ventilated area. This is not user error.
Using official Dell video drivers, was reformatted just week as well.
Do you think it's worth ringing Dell about this and try getting a replacement?

my laptop go to service center at March, now its already May 2009 and my laptop is still on the service center. (the dvd drive wont eject discs, its slot-in type)
usually they (acer) only take 1 or 2 month but now it become 3 months >_>
last time when they change the LCD and Battery and DVD-RW Drive it only take about a month (yups, 3 parts are replaced by acer, for free)

Acer :: Broken LCD Send To For Repair Or DIY
Sep 29, 2009I have a 4 month old Acer Aspire 6920G laptop with a cracked LCD. It happened just by catching the corner of it (the plastic surround, not the lcd) with the back of my hand (it was just a tap for god's sake!) as I went to plug in a memory stick. Brilliant. I guess the screen was weakened for some reason.
Anyway, I know the screen isn't covered by the warranty so I was wondering how much Acer charge to replace the screen? I've looked around and can get a new replacement screen for about £95 and fit it myself but I assume that will void the rest of my warranty? I'm happy to go the DIY route if a screen is far more expensive from Acer.

Mar 5, 2014I have a fairly new (purchased 8/2013) Lenovo ThinkPad T431s with Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. It has a very tricky error coming basically 8 / 10 boots: Windows is Scanning and repairing drive... (see attached image).

What is wrong (my personal analysis): To me, it seems that for some reason there is one (all the Event Viewer details point to similar error) corrupted / missing Windows (System) file that is causing this, but what the file(s) is/are.

Other symptoms on my laptop is that after loggin in and using whatever app (Windows delivered or 3rd party), the whole laptop jams totally for say 30-240 seconds and all apps go to "Not Responding" state untill Laptop recovers AND I can continue using my Laptop "normally".
What has been done trying to fix that:

1) SSD disk has been changed (image from previous SSD copied back) -> no solution, error remains
2) chkdsk /F /R -> no solution, error remains
3) SFC /scannow -> no solution, error remains
4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth -> no solution, error remains after a few boots
5) TRIED using "Update & Recovery -> Refresh Your PC without affecting your files" -> Inserted the Lenovo "Operating System Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)" BUT Windows did not accept that DVD claiming "The media inserted is not valid"... ???
6) Ended up calling Lenovo Support and they instructed me to order the Recovery DVD from [URL] ..... -> Waiting that to arrive...

Acer :: Aspire 4315- Repair Review
May 15, 2008I sent my Acer Aspire 4315 notebook to their repair center in Texas. I had a problem with the jack input for the power. It wasn't responding and found out that it was broken (Update: it wasn't actually broken it just felt very loose to the point were it might break). Also the left corner of the notebook was loose. In order to send in your notebook you have to use there online acer depot repair request system. So I sent it in using UPS ground which cost me $40. After 3 days I received and email saying it was received. 2 days later I receive another email saying it was fixed and will be shipped back using Fedex. Then 4 days later when I got home I received a "door tag" saying i wasn't there to pick up the package and sign for it. It came at 11:30 A.M and I get home a 4:00 P.M. So obviously I couldn't sign for it. Because of this problem I called and requested that they ship it after 4:00. They said they can ask the driver but it doesn't guarantee that will be shipped at the time you requested. So the next I come home I get another "door tag" saying I missed my package the second time. This time I asked them to leave it at there facility and let me pick it up. They said I would have to wait until tommorow to get my package. Tommorow arrives and I pick it up. Finally I have my notebook. I now drive back and open up the box. It came with a paper saying it was fixed. So I now get my AC adapter to plug it in. And guess what? They didn't fix the problem. I carefully looked at the paper and it said that they fixed problem stated which in there mind was the loose left corner of my notebook. WTF? They didn't even bother to fixed the important problem, the POWER JACK! That's horrible service! I then call them saying they didn't fix the problem. after being transferred 5 YES 5 TIMES! The support person said they will pay for the shipping to send it back. Which means that I will have to wait even more to get it back AGAIN and actually have it fixed. The only good part about it being shipped back is that they are going to use Fedex priority overnight. WOW WHAT A TREAT!
UPDATE: I havn't shipped the laptop back. I was about to until I decided to take one last "explore" inside of it. I found out that the power jack wasn't directly attached to the motherboard, just a wire leading to it. So with a little superglue or epoxy it would be fixed. Now that I know what to do. There will be no need to send it back and wait another horrible week!
