My dell xps 13 turns off when I press restart, and then never comes back on. If I hit power the keyboard flashes once and then nothing. It starts back up maybe one out of every 50 attempts. I am very disappointed in this product
View 2 RepliesMy XPS 18 periodically has had trouble coming out of sleep mode. A hard restart has usually worked to restart it. However, the last time it didn't work and now won't start. While plugged in, a hard restart only turns the fan on after a few seconds and the battery indicator light blinks fast 7 times, then pauses, then repeats continuously. Once the battery runs down, a hard restart only gets a single orange blink and then nothing.

As of last night, when I pressed the power button to go into sleep mode (I always do this before I go to bed),
it would pop up a BSOD, and then restart my computer, and pop up a black screen asking if I wanted to reboot in safe mode or not
I have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model 15-e055st, which I purchased two months ago with Windows 8 pre-installed. I susequently upgraded the operating system to Windows 8.1 and all seemed to work OK. I then used the HP Support Assistant to do some important updates, which included the BIOS and other software. Following the HP update the computer would not Shut Down or Sleep, but Restart worked OK. When I attempt to Shut Down or Sleep, the screen goes black but the power light and the wifi light on the keyboard remain on and the fan is still operating. The machine will not recover from this situation without me first doing a hard reset by keeping the power button pressed for about five seconds.
I trıed restoring the software to the condition prior to the HP update but the problem still existed. Two days ago I refreshed the computer, which rolled the operating system back from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.0 but the Shut Down/Sleep problem is still there.
Recently, the sound has become unrepsonsive and the speakers will not play any sound on my laptop unless I restart it every time I use it after it has gone to sleep.
Also, the orange button on the mute button does not light up when the speakers are not working.

But after that my m1330's video is fine, but it just shut down all of sudden. sometimes it shuts down when it is booting or it shuts down after 20-30 mins of use .....
I bought an XPS13 i7, installed the BIOS (that went fine) and then installed the drivers. After installing the "WiFi Display" driver, the computer will not restart. Here is what happens:
I select the restart option
it shuts down
it powers up (the Dell logo appears)
it then goes to a grey screen.
After approximately 10 seconds (or after I press enter) a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the words "F12 Options." The progress bar is persistently at 99% or thereabouts the computer is completely frozen and nothing happens
If I then press the power button, it powers off. When I press the power button again, it starts perfectly normally.
The main concern for me is that this is the second XPS13 from Dell in 1 week!!! The first one had an almost identical problems after the driver installs but it couldn't even be powered back into Windows. No matter what you tried, it simply went to the screen with the progress bar and froze.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. When I turn the laptop on the fan and noises all started but the screen stays black and it completely shuts down. Does not restart itself but shuts down.

I also have another one of the same laptops and tried using the battery, adapter and hdd. All 3 worked for the other laptop but not this one.
My XPSM1330 got a serious trouble with the old Vista... Unluckily, I didn't have any image backup or recovery on it.. That's why I have to install a new Vista on my laptop... I got a full OEM Vista DVD which has been installed so many times on my desktop as well as my father's laptop.. No problems !!! But when I used it for my DELL... After the initial restart after installing updates... It cannot keep on the process.. Now the screen appears in black with Vista Boot Manager Error... I think the AHCI Drive is the main reason so I downloaded the new Intel Matrix Strorage with AHCI support on DELL.com and put it in USB and chose Load Driver in the installing page in Vista ... But nothing changed...!

I thought the fan was making a lot of sounds so over the weekend I sprayed it with canned air, which stopped the noise. Yesterday it started just shutting down. I tried doing a diagnostic with an F12 at startup, and it does the same shut down deal during that as well. So it does not complete.

During the restart process, the system will require me to choose one of the few options available (eg. Start Windows Normally) as it stated there that the laptop was not shut down properly.

Recently I have a problem with the battery, The laptop detects the battery well and displays the percentage of charge and that the battery is charging etc. (on windows 7), but as soon as I remove the charger, it turns off and does not restart without the charger plugged.
I tried with another battery, same result. I also noticed that the battery light flashes 4 times red, then green again.
I've had my Studio 1537 for about a year and once in awhile my laptop screen goesblank after my computer restarts or if I turn my laptop on. This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.

The OS for 1st laptop is Win 7 Pro SP1 and the other one is Win XP Pro SP3.
Every time i restart the laptops it will hang in the next 7 or 10 minutes. I still can move the cursor around but i can't open task manager, or any files.

I recently got a Latitude D510 from a friend, he says it wont turn off unless you hold down the power button, I tried turning it off by the start menu selection (windows 7 home premium sp1)
And it starts turning off. Then a Blue screen pops up for at least 30 seconds and then it restarts.
I bought a new laptop (Acer Aspire 7735G) two days ago, but when I'm working on it, or it's just on doing nothing it sometimes just restarts out of nothing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAs a routine maintenance task, I ran chkdsk /r on my Inspiron 1545 last night and it hung at 69% in stage 5 for over 10 hours. I figured it was hung for good, so shut the machine off. When I turned it back on I got the black screen with a "missing operating system". Message.
Worst case, is it as simple to get a factory restore by hitting F8 at bootup like I;ve seen posted on the web? If not, I do have the factory system recovery disks I made, but I really want to save what's on the laptop already.
