Dell Studio 1537 :: Laptop Screen Goes Blank After Restart
Jul 8, 2010I've had my Studio 1537 for about a year and once in awhile my laptop screen goesblank after my computer restarts or if I turn my laptop on. This happened to be about 10 times (the first time I spent about 3 days on the phone with a technian) already and I always have to reinstall Windows Vista to get my laptop working again. Today I found out that whenever my computer updates my video drive my screen will go blank, is this normal? What I can do to prevent this from happening again? My screen also goes blank when I install a video driver from the dell CD, but when I uninstalled it in safe mode and restart my laptop my screen is no longer blank.

Apr 1, 2013I have 2 Dell Latitude E6320 laptop that is given by a friend, he mentioned that both laptops has been constantly hanging everytime he restart the device.
The OS for 1st laptop is Win 7 Pro SP1 and the other one is Win XP Pro SP3.
Every time i restart the laptops it will hang in the next 7 or 10 minutes. I still can move the cursor around but i can't open task manager, or any files.

I bought this laptop used and always had some issues with it. At first the machine used to have some random power failure, where i would plug it in and the screen would go black. So I went ahead and replaced the motherboard.
Now after many months I took the machine to work and when i got home it will randomly freeze. I went ahead and tried a different harddrive, with the same result. So I tried to reformat the drives and it occurs on both as well

Aug 9, 2014So recently my laptop started randomly shutting off while I was gaming, I assumed it was the graphics card so I tried to use the intel hd graphics and disable the amd hd graphics to see if that would solve the issue, however it still happened. One thing I noticed is that now when I disable that graphics card the resolution is odd and the letters won't be as clear, I'm guessing this means it may be a motherboard issue.I moved on to thinking it was overheating due a fan problem, I bought a new thermal module for it and the same thing still happens.
I did the reset procedure (removed the battery and ac, pressed the power button for 60secs) and it still happened. I tried with a new battery and charger, same still happens.Lately it doesn't happen just while gaming, it will randomly shut down and once it does, sometimes it will shut down again and again before it even boots up, after a while it may boot up or may shut down again.It's really random and I cannot find a pattern....

Jan 18, 2013I bought an XPS13 i7, installed the BIOS (that went fine) and then installed the drivers. After installing the "WiFi Display" driver, the computer will not restart. Here is what happens:
I select the restart option
it shuts down
it powers up (the Dell logo appears)
it then goes to a grey screen.
After approximately 10 seconds (or after I press enter) a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the words "F12 Options." The progress bar is persistently at 99% or thereabouts the computer is completely frozen and nothing happens
If I then press the power button, it powers off. When I press the power button again, it starts perfectly normally.
The main concern for me is that this is the second XPS13 from Dell in 1 week!!! The first one had an almost identical problems after the driver installs but it couldn't even be powered back into Windows. No matter what you tried, it simply went to the screen with the progress bar and froze.

Nov 30, 2014My XPS 18 periodically has had trouble coming out of sleep mode. A hard restart has usually worked to restart it. However, the last time it didn't work and now won't start. While plugged in, a hard restart only turns the fan on after a few seconds and the battery indicator light blinks fast 7 times, then pauses, then repeats continuously. Once the battery runs down, a hard restart only gets a single orange blink and then nothing.

Mar 14, 2009First of all my M1330 has been serving me quite well lately. I've only had it for about 6 months, but the only problems I've had were the computer getting hot.
As of last night, when I pressed the power button to go into sleep mode (I always do this before I go to bed),
it would pop up a BSOD, and then restart my computer, and pop up a black screen asking if I wanted to reboot in safe mode or not

Nov 21, 2008My XPSM1330 got a serious trouble with the old Vista... Unluckily, I didn't have any image backup or recovery on it.. That's why I have to install a new Vista on my laptop... I got a full OEM Vista DVD which has been installed so many times on my desktop as well as my father's laptop.. No problems !!! But when I used it for my DELL... After the initial restart after installing updates... It cannot keep on the process.. Now the screen appears in black with Vista Boot Manager Error... I think the AHCI Drive is the main reason so I downloaded the new Intel Matrix Strorage with AHCI support on DELL.com and put it in USB and chose Load Driver in the installing page in Vista ... But nothing changed...!

Mar 28, 2013I have a dell inspiron 1545. In the last month a trojan virus was discovered (unknown if this has anything to do with anything). I thought the fan was making a lot of sounds so over the weekend I sprayed it with canned air, which stopped the noise. Yesterday it started just shutting down. It does not re-start without you physically pushing the button. This can happen at any time.
I used Dell's PC Doc Came up with the following errors:

I tried doing a diagnostic with an F12 at startup, and it does the same shut down deal during that as well. So it does not complete.

Recently I have a problem with the battery, The laptop detects the battery well and displays the percentage of charge and that the battery is charging etc. (on windows 7), but as soon as I remove the charger, it turns off and does not restart without the charger plugged.
I tried with another battery, same result. I also noticed that the battery light flashes 4 times red, then green again.

Nov 9, 2014I have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.
